"In the not-too-distant future", "Robot Roll Call", "Cambot", "if you're wondering how eats and breathes", "and other science facts", and "for Mystery Science Theater 3000" were also universal constants.
This intro is endlessly classic from its local tv roots to modern streaming service but the jump between 1999 and 2016 is kinda jarring, that said, it makes me so grateful we have this show back in the day of High Quality A/V. Also in addition to being a general intro, I love the intro for The Return just a bit more because Felicia Day singing is just generally a gift
One of the underrated visual gags, imo, is how Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank (and later just Forrester) would pop up into frame for the "Lalala" just before the "Repeat to yourself 'It's just a show'" line--as if to deliberately ruin the illusion that the SoL is anything but a model in front of a space background, and that MST3K is anything but, well, just a show.
Oddly enough, the opening to season 11 raises the most questions. One of the biggest being, how did the robots on Jonah's version of the Satellite Of Love come to be? Are they the original bots? Or are they new ones based on the originals? And if so, who built them and why? Also, if they are in fact supposed to be the originals, what happened to Mike? And why are they not living with him anymore? I know the mantra of MST3K is "it's just a show I should really just relax" but at least the older versions of the opening gave us context as to why everyone was there.
I assume these bots are just recreations of the bots made by kingdra. Since in season 11 its shown said bots can do more than the original ones (like servo flying and gypsy being able to go into the theatre at will) and the original bots are still with mike
kayokango There’s been known to be several Tom Servo clones in the older seasons and if you look closely during the door segment of season 11 you can see a spare Crow head
The bots in season 11 have mentioned things from the Joel era as having happened to them, and even during the Joel era, Joel is seen maintaining Tom Servo's "hover skirt," so he was intended to be able to hover around from the beginning even if the technology and/or budget back then didn't allow it.
My money's on Mike. He can't go five minutes without accidentally blowing up a planet, ripping a hole in space-time wouldn't be too much of a stretch for him.
It is very strange isn't it? For the most part, they just sing through the song and don't have any of the visual accompaniment that all of the older ones had. For example, during the lyric "we'll/I'll send him cheesy movies" all of the old openings showed the Mads holding up movie film and or vhs tapes, or standing next to some huge goofy looking film projector. Season 11's opening could've used a little more development.
MST3K was, for me, Joel as host. Mike was okay, but Joel was the gold standard. And when they lost Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank, they lost me. They fiddled too much with the formula.
It’s not so much that they ‘fiddled with the formula’, cast members just slowly moved on to bigger and better things. But I know what you mean. I never watched KTMA or season one, and I haven’t really wanted to watch the Netflix show either. I liked Joel and Mike, and the SciFi Channel shows were just as good, mostly. Kevin Murphy lasted the longest, seasons 2 thru the end of 10!
I like how “CROOOOW” is a universal constant
"In the not-too-distant future", "Robot Roll Call", "Cambot",
"if you're wondering how eats and breathes", "and other science facts", and "for Mystery Science Theater 3000" were also universal constants.
CROOOWWW! Is from "Crow" by the Jim Carrol Band
@@pgj1997Also, he can't control where the movies begin or end
@@EpixAndroidActually, no. That line changes from "Joel can't control" to "He can't control, and "Mike can't control"
One thing doesn't change for sure: *They'll send him cheesey movies.*
And *CROOOOOOOOOOW*
Man, this man had like 6 bosses that utterly HATED him!\
Daniel Burnham there's three different test subjects though
Joel had- Dr Forester, Dr Erdhart and TV’s Frank
Mike had- Dr Forester, TV’s Frank, Pearl, Brain Guy And Bobo
Jonah has- Kinga, Max and Sinfia
Synthia
Mr Critical earhardt
And that's not even including the 12th and 13th seasons too.
7:38 CROOOOW!
That's one "O"!
I'm different!
A wisecrack
One of my high school classmates had a liscence plate that read: CROOOW!

“CROOOOOW” sounds like the international Crow T. Robot siren
The crows are coming....

One of my favorite bloopers is Trace bonking his head on the SOL prop
At first I thought they were singing "But his bosses didn't like him so they shot him in the face." That's a bit harsh.

Just repeat yourself it's just a show I should really just relax

Mystery Science Theatre the 50th Anniversary Special!
@@dorkandproudofit or breaking the Hubble telescope.
the intros for seasons 2-5.5, and season 11 are my favorite.
I always remembered it being Mystery Science Theater 2000. I thought the 3000 was just a name change to the series. I hate the Mandella Effect.
Why does Joel say robot roll call with such enthusiasm?
Clayton Forrester looks like he has gone crazy over the years staying in deep 13 for many years. (Wild hairstyle)
The Lemonade line in the season 0 intro just seems like such a Joel thing.
My ADHD loved every second of this.

Best part.
I guess he thinks the intro was ruined forever when they didn't bring back that side-view shot with Crow mugging to the camera.
Bailey1014 HE'LL HAVE TO SIT AND WATCH THEM ALL, AND WE'LL MONITER HIS MIND
This is like TNG's All Good Things, where Picard kept going from time to time.
So originally GYPSY was going to watch with Joel and Crow instead of Servo? Cool
Majinism not really. Servo was featured in the theater in the KTMA era
Was the shot of Gypsy in the theater back when Servo was Beeper? I'm not as up to date on the earliest seasons
+Mark Carpenter i believe so
Probably not. Joel said the KTMA intro was filmed during K03, which was after Beeper was turned into Servo.
Volume levels.
You could have gotten a higher quality version of the KTMA theme from VHX, or other videos :) Not complaining, though. This is a really good video!
This was great! It deserves a lot more views!!
Volume balanced version please
this felt like a stroke
6:45 ROBOT ROLL CALL
7:18: Gypsy! Hi girls
It's a Murder of Crows!
The Forrester family really have a large supply of cheesy movies what do they have against guys in jumpsuits
shouts out deep 13
4:28: Godzilla
7:52 CRACKER lol
Great work!
Season 2 was the best
You need to learn how to adjust the volume levels... seriously.

No
Wow! This video shows that the intro to season 11 does not fit with the rest of the series at all.

There's a debate we have not seen on the internet before. Maybe next you can give us your take on Kirk versus Picard.

I’m the opposite-I think the later Mike seasons really hit their stride. And the films were the best type of tripe to make fun of
