My favorite part of any group of Servos singing is where they go off the rails at the end and sing dirty pub music while Mike tries to usher them off the stage.
I love how as Mike talks, Tom quietly turns around and begins the choir in singing "Madamoiselle from Armentieres" (Inky Pinky Parlez Vous), one of the dirtiest, raunchiest traditional songs. The sheer joy that 10 Tom Servos get out of using this song to troll Mike. They clearly rehearsed this. They know they can't sing this on the air. You can see the extra giddiness in Tom's bouncing on that song. The subtly blended with the sheer sophistication of this show is unmatched.
1:35 I love how they do that same artsy zoom and slow pan like cameramen do at every choral or orchestral performance. I'm just as guilty of this but it's still funny in this case.
I'm convinced that one day art critics with monocles and historians will analyze this and measure it as a cultural treasure. Library of Congress where are you on this stuff? Nah... But, I can always dream!
My bucket list is to reenact this scene with an actual military academy men’s chorus and me as the conductor in 100 part harmony and send the video to the family of Kevin Murphy
For those who are wondering what the chorus is singing at the end, it's basically a rendition of 'Mademoiselle from Armentières' and he was most likely using the lyrics from the episode of The Golden Girls where the lyrics went "The first Marine, he found the bean, parlez-vous. The second Marine, he cooked the bean, parlez-vous. The third Marine, he ate the bean and blew apart the submarine. Inky dinky parlez-vous." The more you know, folks. :)
I think Mike shuts him up before they get going on Mademoiselle from Armentieres before they singers got to the risque parts. It was a famous song of WW1 British soldiers in honour of French ladies of the night.
I met Mr. Murphy today. He's such a sweet, wonderful man with a sharp wit and a kind disposition! The best part is that the sheet music of this is probably coming out next month! I'm so excited!
+wattamack4 Josh was in favor of ad-libbing the riffs, which became scripted when they moved to cable, and he felt ignored because he was so young. heck, when the show launched, he was legally a minor. Most of the cast and crew members area currently between 51 years old (Mike) and 59 (Kevin and Frank). Josh is 44.
+metropod Holy moly - that means he was still in high school when they were on KTMA! That is nuts. I'll be 44 my next birthday, I was just struck by this comment. Thanks for posting.
@@XJIcequeen it's the refrain from "Mademoiselle from Armentières," a crude song from the World Wars. "Hinky Dinky Parlez Vous" is an onomatopoeic reference to the sound of bed springs.

Not to be religious on main (am actually Agnostic, take that for what you will)...but God bless this show for allowing us to see just how beautiful Kevin Murphy's singing voice really is. God bless it for gifting us this skit, which is WAY BETTER than it has ANY right being.
You might be interested to know that Kevin Murphy was director of his church choir so we're not the only ones who understood he has some singing chops. :)
Not only is the singing for the main song beautiful but the bit in the end was HILARIOUS! In fact; It seems to be a repeating gag on this show...a bot or bots do a big endearing musical number...then break into some old-timey "bawdy song"...much to the displeasure of the host. I guess this was the Mike-Era's answer to "Gypsy Moons". I'll "Rinky-Dinky Parlez-Vous" to THAT!
Did Kevin Murphy compose and arrange this? If all the voices are his, I am really impressed by his vocal range because he is singing low bass to high tenor in (mostly) chest voice
Yes, all the voices are his. He's a great singer and was the director of his church choir. I don't know if he ever had any training or if he's just naturally gifted.
The song that the United Servo Academy Chorus Men's Choir sings at the end is "Mademoiselle from Armentieres", also known as "Hinky Dinky Parlez Vous". It originated during world war one.
At the end there... just 20 seconds... all it takes ... think about it.. Just 20 seconds and i can't stop laughing about it... from the 1990's until present.. Just 20 seconds!!!! Of one episode of mst3k.. All they needed was just 20 seconds to make me laugh for a couple of decades..
Vicupper, i COMPLETELY AGREE!! It was around 1999/2000 that many movies, music groups started to seriously suck! Im only 24 & i hate the popular music/films of today. It seems our pop culture of the past had meaning to it when these days it seems so plastic and everything is simply to make a buck. LOVE THIS VID BY THE WAY!!
I must be the only person in the world who not only thinks this song is amazing, but The Starfighters wasn't that bad either. It helps if you're an aircraft nut, I guess.
Somebody on the MST3K Wiki said they weren't sure if "Take these broken wings and learn to fly..." was a reference to "Blackbird" or "Broken Wings"...I think we can all agree it makes more sense for it to be a Beatles reference, right?
I know the feeling! Wonder if he ever practiced music/singing before MST. And, for a little dude with inoperable arms, Tom Servo's pretty efficient with that conductor's baton.
For those who don't know what that "rinky dinky dink parlez vous" song is, it's Mademoiselle from Armentières. It's the tale of a French innkeeper's daughter and two German soldiers.
The only thing better than Kevin Murphy singing is... TEN Kevin Murphys singing.
In two-part harmony, no less
there's a point where this goes beyond funny and starts being just amazing
Right? Like, normally funny stuff doesn't get me choked up like this.
Kevin Murphy has said later that this is one of his favorite bits from the series.
You can tell he had fun with it.
And it's one of ours, as well.
My favorite part of any group of Servos singing is where they go off the rails at the end and sing dirty pub music while Mike tries to usher them off the stage.
this is Kevin Murphy's finest hour
He's such a terrific singer, Kevin is
Honestly, Kevin's singing voice is like 90+% of the reason why I prefer MST3K to RiffTrax.
Why do I want this performed at my funeral
Honestly I sorta want it for mine too. XD
As a professional pilot and instructor I agree!
Joking aside, this is really beautiful.
This actually gives me chills. Kevin Murphy has the best voice.

If you think that standard is risque, you ought to hear the naughty one he and two other Servos sing after "Air on a Delta Knight".
Tom Servo at the end was singing a WW1 song.
1:35 I love how they do that same artsy zoom and slow pan like cameramen do at every choral or orchestral performance. I'm just as guilty of this but it's still funny in this case.
haha great observation! they were true television fans
This song has lived rent free in my head since the 90s. Incredible

Nah...
But, I can always dream!
"Take these broken WEENGS"
Even his pronunciations are classy. Totally amazing.

Thank you! Every time I try to hear the lyrics I can't because I keep laughing through it! 😂

I thought it sounded familiar, it's the same song they play at the end of "They shall not grow old"
This is actually rather impressive.

The best part is that the sheet music of this is probably coming out next month! I'm so excited!
If Josh Weinstein hadn't left the show when he did, we would have been deprived of Kevin Murphy's singing! I shudder at the thought...
+KTAVERILL To be honest, I could kind of tell Josh was ready to quit just from looking at his performances as Servo and Erhardt in season 1.

I HATE TOM SERVO'S NEW VOICE!
+crowtservo I GET IT!
You can INSTANTLY tell that Kevin Murphy aka "Tom Servo" has taken singing lessons.. He has
a pleasant singing voice..
I believe he was raised catholic and was a star in the choir.
Or, you know, it could just be raw, God-given talent.
6 years later, but I think he's a professionally trained opera singer
Did anyone else notice Mike clearly trying not to laugh at the end? Excellent
I still don’t get the punchline

What was the baudy song the choir started singing afterward? I couldn't really make it out.
It's Hinky Dinky Parlez-vous (although it sounds like they're saying Rinky Dinky..) It's chorus to an old WWI song.
These are the words:
The first Marine, he found the bean, parlez vous
The second Marine, he cooked the bean, parlez vous
The third Marine, he ate the bean

HA HA HA HA :D

I want this to be played at my funeral
Tom bouncing and waving the baton as he leads the group is fantastic. I like that he gets to do something with his arms for once.
Actually this is quite lovely.
"...have heard that bird is the word" comical genius!
We are kids for saving Earth; we are fans of Colin Firth!
Just beautiful. Bravo, Vice Brigadier Sir Thomas "Bullhead" Servo.
This, and Servo singing about the Gypsy Moon are my favorite musical moments from MST3K! Kevin Murphy has a wonderful singing voice!
How about _"When I Held Your Brain In My Arms?"_
@Spider-Geek916 I forgot about that! I loved it!
Tom Servo never disappoints when it comes to singing
(slowly clap) "This is soo beautiful."(shed a single tear)

This has no business being this good 🤣 Tom has always been my favorite
I recognize TEN songs cannibalized to create those lyrics.
Isn't it a bit frightening how good the Best Brains are at singing 'barbershop' harmony?
Missing that amazing Mormon Tabernacle Choir overdue; that was pure genius.
I love how mike can’t help but smile through the whole thing; how could you not?
How did they ever only win a Peabody?
I know!
There is no God
It's pretty impressive that Kevin Murphy sings all the harmonies and the solo.
A sketch so good, they brought it back for season 9's Quest of the Delta Knights...and it was just as excellent there.
Did Kevin Murphy compose and arrange this? If all the voices are his, I am really impressed by his vocal range because he is singing low bass to high tenor in (mostly) chest voice

This is funny and beautiful.
This is one of the highlights of this otherwise-excruciating ep. Another is that the riffs remind me of my dad for some reason.
I was in the Air Force. Maybe I should have this played at my funeral. :D
I can't watch this without getting teary eyed.
Ah, the ultimate tribute to the Classic MST3k Tom Servo's megalomania! 😁
This is insanely brilliant!
Just watched this the other night, on MST3K Marathon!
hey-- Tom has a functioning right arm!
My heart when Battletoads was announced at E3 2018.
The US Space Force Anthem!
I cry every time
"Cross the Wide Missouri"
I don't know why but all the servos turning their heads at the same time during the last bit hits my funny bone *just* right
