- I've teamed up with Pendle Leasing to bring you a new series of test drives in more obtainable cars and we're going to get started with the MINI Cooper S JCW!
A popular favourite, the 228bhp top-end variant of the Mini F56 hatchback brings a lot of go to a small form factor. This particular car finished in Electric Blue looks the part too, but what's it like to drive and what does the lease market have to offer?

There's so much hate online because of reliability and build quality. How do you counter that?
Actually only the first gen has bad reliability and build quality.
Just get your ass into one and drive around a few nice roads and you'll know that there's a lot of bullshit talking going around in the internet ;)
Jesse D actually, at one Mini event I was at (Mini Takes the States) I saw a Mini that came from California (this checkpoint was in Pittsburgh) that was basically a Barbie car. Then I saw another Mini from New York with performance parts with a license plate that said "NOT CUTE". It's a unique range of personalities.
Willy Lamb Remember, maintenance is key. But Mini buyers care more about the heritage of the car, the style, the driving feel, etc. Reliability is boring :)

Just wanted to say thanks for the video. I've been watching it over and over while I've been waiting the 3 months since I ordered my new JCW which I finally pick up later today. Waiting for it to get shipped across the pond and around through the Panama Canal has been torture. Thanks again.
Special ordered my 2018 JCW yesterday.. Feels special already getting to pick the perfect spec out online. Should be here in 8 weeks!

Shmee, you'be got it in one... Driving is all about fun. I appreciate your videos and incite into the supercar world I will never be a part of, but these "everyday driver video's are really good. I've had a Fiesta ST for nearly 2 years and still having an absolute blast. Nice vids, keep them coming.

going with a jcw to the track this Thursday, on a small circuit it's more fun then the GT4 and to be honest, the JCW is an ideal daily driver for every car lover thanks to it's awesome frame which gives a stunning driving experience

There's a toggle switch to raise/lower the HUD. No need to turn the whole car off. Also secret compartment has been discontinued.

Just one thing, you can manage the event-based lights on the central display off except for changing drive mode notification. First thing I did was turn most of them off including the rev counter as I find them distracting.

+shmee150 Try the Audi S1 if you want a real pocket rocket ;) 2.0T makes 250hp (231hp claimed) and has 4wd quattro 0-60 in around 5.2 seconds (5.8 claimed) 1315kg. Like the Mini it has drive modes: Eco,Auto and Dynamic. Throttle response, adaptive dampeners and exhaust valve opens. I own one and would love for somebody to review them. Only 1600 in the UK currently so quite rare.

I'd love to see a new drivers guide type of thing. Giving people who are learning to drive or who have recently passed their test, a few ideas on some cars to think about. But obviously some factors come in, insurance, car price, how they perform etc, for a new driver. Would be a very useful video imo.

Tim you need to test drive an F56 Cooper S with the JCW Pro bi-modal exhaust! I have one on my Challenge210 and it's crazy. Pops and bangs loads!

While driving, how many squeaks (front windows) and rattles did you hear. Every F56 I have driven has been poor - mainly cos my Cooper spends most of its time at the dealer...

I have had 2 minis in the past (gen 1) 03 and 05 cooper, I loved them not the fastest but fun to drive. Did I hear right that the new mini jcw has a 2 litre engine in it? If so I'm a bit surprised that it only has 228bhp, I think it should have more power than that especially been a JCW..... It should be able to keep up and beat most in its class. But yet it doesn't.... Maybe wrong but I'm just shocked it's not as powerful as what I thought.
These newer cars develop their power earlier in the power band. They have gobs more torque than a gen 1, more power than you would think given the HP number. While their redline is lower and the power drops off at high RPMs, they have access to more torque, more of the time, with large amounts of power available even as low as 1800rpm.
In practice I have found it quicker than the VW Golf GTI 7.5 and a Kia Stinger. After all it is a light car by todays standards.
Congrats again on your LT Spyder!!! Just curious, is there a reason why you didn't get the track telemetry package this time?

Mk 1's are immense cars, absolute b road rockets. Handle like there on rails. Plus I can imagine it's a more raw car compared to the new RS.

Great review of the new mini jcw Tim. I'm not too keen on the new mini range, I think mini have spoilt the look with the bulkiness which makes it not so mini anymore. What about the Abarth Punto evo? I know Fiat aren't the best for making cars but I had the Grande Punto Sporting JTD and it was a great little car, very fun to drive and surprisingly quick, probably as quick as the mini Cooper at the time as 0 to 62 time was 9.3 but felt quicker tbh.
we need to see the boot space on cars Tim. everyone always forget to show the boot but for me it's an important selling point.
I hope you're going to try out the Corsa vxr and astra vxr when it comes out
The armrest is two postion and drops to allow better access to the controller and gear stick.
Shmee150 I'm thinking of getting a Ford Mustang 5.0 since it's now available in the uk right hand drive but also wouldn't mind getting the Ford Focus rs, I want the mustang because of the nice v8 sound but at the same time I think maybe the rs is more practical and they are both around the same price could you do a review and comparison on the mustang and rs help me with my dilemma shmee.
