Hi. You will have so much fun with your grandchild, is it your first? Just think of the early life memories you will be able to give it on your boat. Pure gold! I do not know why we are drawn to cemeteries. My wife and I make a point of visiting cemeteries where ever we travel and when ever we can. It is sometimes an emotional thing to experience. We enjoy your videos here in AU. Keep them coming please!

Hi Michael. Sorry for the delayed reply, we have only just seen this comment.Im so glad you enjoyed the footage of yours and your mums birth places. They are both lovely towns in a beautiful area. We loved it there.
@@FloatingOurBoat thanks for the reply. It thrills me to see home. I miss it everyday even after all these years. I love what you two are doing and my wife and I hope to do the same in five years.
Thank you both for the time you put into these videos they are realistic, well thought out, full of information and great ideas and you both put your personalities into them. Hope to meet all four of you some day . We will be starting at the beginning of your vlogs and going through them all. Best Regards Colin and Heather.

Chuckled to myself to hear you weren’t going to replace Constanze, and REALLY chuckled to hear Archie grizzling in the background whenever you stopped to talk to the camera. He is such a character.
Thank you too the calm you have brought into my life. I lost my mum in late September and went on a planned canal break two weeks later. The peace and calm that gave me cannot be replicated in my everyday life. Your vlogs come some way too giving me that calm. I started watching at the beginning and it strangely feels like I am watching friends. All the best to you both, change is not always good.
Hi David, so sorry to hear about your mum. There is generally a peace on the canals and in the life we lead which is unique. We always used to feel it when we were going back and forth to the cottage, then breathed a sigh of relief when sat on our little boat. I think that living with limited space really helps you concentrate on small things and appreciate your surroundings, and also helps you concentrate on reflecting and relaxing. We love hearing from our regular viewers and sharing our lives with you. Change is not always good, but sometimes cant be avoided so I have found the best thing is to turn it round to work for you if you can. Wishing you a happy Christmas ans 2020 Fran x

@@FloatingOurBoat hi there, do you guys have any plans to be back on the Worcester and Birmingham this year ? Just wondering as that is my local canal, and also the canal my ancestors worked on as boatmen and lock keepers, nearly 200 years ago.

Another beautiful and informative vlog from you both. I don't often comment - largely because previous commentators have already expressed my thoughts - so I click on their 'Likes' instead, However, today, you have given me something to contribute. Firstly, my congratulations to you on your recent nuptials - secondly, your comment re indoor markets and your memories of old. I too have many such memories, my home town having an identical 'Victorian style' Market Hall with my Grandfather opening a stall in 1903. I followed my dad into the business and 'worked it' for over 46/47 years, but am now retired. Wonderful days, despite icy winters, with warm camaraderie from fellow stallholders to compensate. Whatever the future - I wish you the very best with many happy years together.
Thank you so much for your comments. Market life was wonderful. Even though I only did it for s few years I have such strong memories. Frozen feet and hands, roasting in summer under a glass roof, but so much fun with other stallholders. It was like bring part of a family.

I love your VLOG’s! Rich and Fran you are such lovely people. I was great to go around with you and see the sights! Going with what you know is a good idea!
I too love visiting cemeteries and have travelled from Philadelphia to the UK just to visit certain writers - C. S. Lewis, Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, Agatha Christie and many, many more - not only in the UK but Paris, Prague and even close to home (Conshohocken, PA) Have adopted a young man's grave here who was killed at Pearl Harbor. Just put a big bouquet of flowers on his grave for Veterans Day (Remembrance Day.) Love your latest vlog. It was the best yet. Love to you both.
What a lovely thing to adopt a grave. It's a shame that do many just get forgotten. I have always felt compelled to wander round graveyards reading the stones. A somber thing to do, but it also puts our brief lives into perspective. Thank you for your comment Fran
That’s great news. I know you mentioned you were thinking about a bigger boat when we exchanged emails and just today at the start of this video I thought what a shame because Constanta is looking really good! I loved this video especially the photography at the start, it’s so clear and the scenery is beautiful. That area is amazing, we hired our first narrowboat at Sowerby Bridge and I did my lock training in Tuel lock, my nerves were in shreds. Then when we moored up I fell overboard! What a day? I’ve been watching Robbie on BBC4, well the first four episodes on iplayer all at once with a bottle of sparkly to celebrate. I think he did a great job and I was watching to see if your boat made it into the programme but I didn’t spot it! Maybe I should have held back on the wine! I’m not sure where the last leg of the journey is though. It was great that they used his music and I did shout pub of the week each time he stopped fir a beer. Again that may have been the wine. I can’t wait for the next video on the Rochdale canal and to see what adventures you get up to. Good luck with the flat hunting. A friend of ours has an apartment in Huddersfield in a conversion overlooking the narrow canal. I’m not sure if you have considered that area or want to be somewhere smaller. Either way it’s all very exciting. Thanks as always for sharing your journey.
Hi Sylvia. Thank you again for your message. I don't think we made the final cut on Robbies videos. Aren't they wonderful? He has done so well and works so hard, and deserves this series. We have just lost our buyer for our cottage so we will start looking for flats again once we have another buyer. The house buying/selling system is so rubbish. Ideally we would look for a smaller town with good rail links, but we are keeping an open mind. All suggestions welcome.
Floating Our Boat I’m really sorry to hear about your house sale you must be so upset. We sold our London flat this year and thought it would be a piece of cake but it was a nightmare. The solicitor was incompetent and we were eventually refunded a large portion of the legal fees. There’s something seriously wrong with our house selling and Conveyancing system! It’s like an endurance test not a service. Stay positive, your cottage is beautiful and you will soon have another buyer.
This is the first UA-cam video of yours I've seen and it certainly won't be the last. Your infectious smiles and jolly personalities are a joy to watch, plus the content is equally as fabulous too. New subscriber here! 😁👍
Rich, Fran. all positive moves great. your boat is awesome and unmistakable yours. Got this episode; delivered with out any hassle thank you. Like Halifax, good video as always. blessings from john NZ cheers for now

I had a feeling you would do this ,and it makes sense to do the work you want on your lovely boat ,nice to see you both looking so well and happy .Love your video's, Best wishes Mary xx
This was a really nice video. I have not seen this area of England before. It was good to hear your immediate and long term plans going forward. Thanks so much for doing what you do.
Thank you for updating us on your life and decisions. They're the kinds of decisions that need a lot of thought. That deep lock looked terrifying -- rather you than me! Beautiful scenery around Heptonstall. And good to see Sylvia Plath's gravestone.
Hi both, what a joy to watch as always...! So pleased for you both on all the news. We’re wrestling (and have been for some time) with what to do with the house, down size, relocate...blah blah...but family commitments make decisions very complicated...! Good luck with everything...Steve and Sue..🍷🍷
That's a lovely area. I walked through Henden bridge when I did the Penine way. Quite a pull up the hill with a the gear I had. Good luck with all your planning. Thanks guys.
That sounds exciting. We have quite a few years to go until we receive full pensions otherwise we would be be bothering with letting. Good luck with your boat
A very interesting, really like hearing about the history of a place, and lovely vlog. Fran you have my sympathies, I too have Raynauds, it can be agony so I hope the gloves work! Look forward to the next vlog, oh and congrats on being soon to be grandparents :)
Thank you Maggie. As you know Raynaud's can make like very difficult, even in the summer. So far, vthe gloves seem to be really good. I'll keep you all updated.
Great video as always love the area you were at ,not too far away from me and occasionally visit Hebdon bridge when its not in flood, keep the videos coming I can't get enough of them, take care , ATB Paul
steam coming off Rich's hands in the lock......... I knew you were a hot one! ;-) Halifax.....I'd only ever known of the Halifax in Canada before today! looking forward to Constanze's continuing adventures!
Good on you ! Sounds like a well-thought-out plan! By little cottage, it was lovely to see you! Thanks for the village tour, that place is just perfect! Did u stop in the tea shop? That was adorable! Can't wait to hear how Constanze's upgrades go!
Sorry to hear the news about your house people shouldn't be able to back out only 6 months ti retirement now cant wait for our boat life to begin great vlog again . Lorraine+phil xx
Hi Lorraine, sorry we missed your comment and have only just seen it. We think we may have found another buyer now, but it has been a worrying time. Good luck for your boat life...only 5 months now !!
Another great vlog Rich and Fran. Would it be worth trying to buy a flat near a main line railway station or a town so you can rent it to professional people who commute to work, you could then possibly rent it long term, but I totally agree with you about keeping your boat and doing a few upgrades instead of buying another boat, and at the end of the day whatever boat you have it'll still take you to the places you want to go to. You only get one chance in life so go for it but manage it in the best way you can to suit your budget, and then enjoy it. Too many of us, me included, are scared to make that jump but we'll have worse regrets when we can't make that jump.
Welcome to my part of the world! I hope one day to cruise the waterways as you do but for now I feel very lucky to live where I do :) There are some lovely canalside properties here but don't buy on the ground floor especially in Walsden! - We flood at least once every two years and sometimes more often...
Very good and interesting again, once again I sit here grinning like a Cheshire cat which is a good thing, glad you have your minds all set and clear on your future, I did puff & pant a bit on that hill!, it seemed to go on forever!, hope the weather improves a bit for you.x
My cratch table is back home that you got from Stafford boat club. It has been up and down them canals many times, as we live in Leeds and did moor our boat around Leeds before moving it to Stafford.
I've rewatched a lot of your vlogs going back to the beginning. I don't think you complain enough about the litter and plastic that is on, in and along the canals. You are not the only ones who complain - Minimal List, David Cruising the cut also make a point of the litter. Keep doing it. Secondly, way back Rich pointed out cylindrical tank barriers. I have never seen or heard about these. I write historical novels about how people lived through WWII and never came across these. I have seen the pill boxes along the canals, and on my own walks in the UK but never these barriers. Interesting. Absolutely love your vlogs. Jane- Philadelphia
Thank you for your comment Jane. Sorry for the late reply, sometimes messages get lost in the system.I remember those tank barriers. we have only ever seen them once, so they are obviously not that common. Thank you also for your support about the litter. We dont want to come across as moany, but these thing need to be highlighted otherwise it is seen as being ok.
Hi Guys! Your best video yet. I have twin grand-daughters due in January. :o) Yorkshire has wonderful scenery, great folk, and cheap(er) beer and houses. I really hope it works out for you both. All the very best wishes in this new stage of your lives together. Sarky.
Hi Sarky. Good luck with the twins!! 😁. Now we know why you've gone all soft on us lately. We're loving Yorkshire, just not sure about the big heads on the beer! Glad you liked the video.
@@FloatingOurBoat The frothy beer is compensated by it being at least a quid cheaper than "daaarn saaarf." I lived in Wakefield for a while. Loved it! Barnsley bitter was a great quaffing ale. Allegedly. ;o)
Our Swift Rapids lock 43 in Ontario Canada is 32 ft wide 120 ft long and lifts 47 ft. Or drops. Its all hydraulic and is also has a power generation station beside it. My boat is 26 ft long 8 ft wide and 11.5 ft tall in water. Cruiser style 👍 I love our Trent Severn Waterway. Also love these videos as i used to live in Widnes just outside of Liverpool England. Cheers 👍
Fran l forgot to say l also have Raynauds ,my doctor put me on Diltiazem for micro-vascular angina and it has improved almost altogether, it opens up the tiny arteries giving better blood flow and it certainly worked for me ,my fingers and toes are actually warm and normal colour .Just thought it might be worth mentioning when you see your doctor it is so painful .xx
We're always looking at other boats..we quite fancy a traditional with boatmans cabin, and a big shiny engine that sounds lush..the only trouble is they cost so much..we have a nice 58 ft semi trad. Like you say know her inside and out and feel very happy with the spec..except we're thinking about changing our Pullman dinette to L shaped one, as we think will give a more open feel to the boat. We also have a holiday lodge in Pembrokeshire that we have been letting through Sykes cottages, only since August this year..so far we've been pleased with the interest in it..its gone quiet now though..which means we get to use it with our grandkids..saves buying a widebeam to fit them all on. Hubby still works though and we have a home mooring in a marina..so cheating a little. X
Hi Julia - we too would love a trad boat with cabin (Fran sees herself sitting in there reading with the stove on) but we feel we really do need to still invest in a property for the future. Thanks for watching x
I like your boat, more than anything it is a home and you can see that. I started at the beginning of your vlogs and now nearly two weeks later I am at episode 72. There have been so many times when I have thought "wow, that's exactly what I would say" ....sometimes that has been quite scary...lol. In these last few episodes you have been in my home country. I am a Yorkshire lass, grew up in Huddersfield. What I will tell you is that if you go through Skipton (or maybe you already have) it hasbeen Britain's voted best market....not sure when market day is. And did you notice the Emily Moor mast when you were on the Huddersfield canal...and how about Castle Hill , castle built for Queens Vic's jubilee I believe. Congratulations on your marriage. Keep happy and at the moment I can also say keep safe even though I know Rich got that nasty number 19 dreaded lurgy. Love and hugs.
Thank you for your comment Lesley. So glad you're enjoying the videos. I won't give too much away but we never did get to Skipton even though it was our intention over the winter. It is still very near the top of our list so we will get there and look out for the market. Also, we didn't see any of the places you talk about so we will just have to keep travelling and going back to see what we missed.
Were did you get your knowledge from all the time are you reading it up ? End it was interesting to see that you have a Halifax in the UK like what we have here in Canada. 😊
Deep then there's really deep. While working in Oskemen, Kazakhstan I went to see the local lock on the River Irtysh. This lock has a rise of 42 meters. I took a picture whilst there despite the prohibition by the on site police.
Good interesting vlog, I hope you don't mind me saying but I thought Rich was a little pre occupied, so when you made your announcement it became clear why. A big decision for you but you both seen at ease with it so that's the main thing👍 Great news about becoming grandparents, will be a lovely Christmas present. Best wishes, Pete & Sue.
If you're thinking of letting out your new property maybe you should look into the Serviced Accommodation option via AirBnB etc. More money and more secure as NO semi-permanent tenants to worry about. I think generally Serviced Accommodation is 'anti-social' and a real problem generating a lot of Homelessness, but as it's also going to be your 'own home' it wouldn't fall into the same category as those Landlords who are Evicting tenants from their Buy-To-Lets so that they can cash-in on the Serviced accommodation trend - (Just a thought :-)
Very interesting, good decision as regards keeping what you know and improving on it. Did you use supplementary lighting when videoing final talk to camera, it looked great. I was around that area in my campervan earlier in the year, really lovely. Fondest regards AJ
Hi Alan. No extra lighting used, just a gift of nature. You must have seen done amazing views from the campervan. It's a really interesting area and we're loving the history and old towns
Again lovely video... but what happened to the coolie hat for the stove pipe? Haven't seen it for ages... am catching up... might be up to date in a week!!!! Best...
May I just say good luck with your new plans, they sound very exciting. Sometimes it’s better with “the devil you know” rather than “the devil you don’t know”. Yorkshire is a stunning County in many areas. If you are going to Skipton, I would recommend getting on the train to Settle and enjoy a trip along the famous Settle and Carlisle Railway. I am certain you two would love it. Fran, I know you have spent a lot of money on those gloves. However, gloves, in general, are very inefficient in respect of their thermal qualities. Mittens however are very, very efficient. I can strongly recommend you trying a pair of mittens. Somewhere like GoOutdoors will have them as they are very popular with the outdoor fraternity. You can pick them up quite cheaply. Your hands will be much warmer in them I can guarantee. There is a lot of history in Churches and their grounds. I am not a religious person but I do enjoy visiting churches for historical reasons. Last year I paid my respects to Donald Campbell who is buried in Coniston. I remember seeing Donald crash in Bluebird in 1967 on the news in black and white of course! I watched Bluebird run for the first time since the tragedy this year;now she is beautifully restored. Anyway, all the best and continue living a great life. Good luck to you both.
Thanks for the suggestion about Settle, we will try to do that. I white agree about mittens and they are great for out walking but I wouldn't be able to manage the boats and locks safely with them. The new gloves seem to be working really well so far.

Thank you for your comment
Fran
Sounds like a great plan🤗.....good luck👍
Very informative vlog, really enjoyed the beautiful scenery, tight lines 👍
Well done guys thanks, loved it 👍😁👏👏👏
This is the first UA-cam video of yours I've seen and it certainly won't be the last. Your infectious smiles and jolly personalities are a joy to watch, plus the content is equally as fabulous too.
New subscriber here! 😁👍
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. We are glad you enjoyed the video.
Swinging Jazzy beasts, nice. Lovely canal side "waterfall".
I would love to see these old lock systems, as I retired from Locks & Dams here in the USA. Great video!
Thank you x
Rich, Fran. all positive moves great. your boat is awesome and unmistakable yours. Got this episode; delivered with out any hassle thank you. Like Halifax, good video as always. blessings from john NZ cheers for now
Good luck with your future plans. Hope to do similar soon. Love when you go walk about. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. Good luck with your plans
I just subscribed. Some beautiful ruins you shared here. I know money is hard to come by but so easy to let fly! I look forward to your future posts! Keep them coming.
Hi, Sorry for the late reply, sometimes messaged get lost in the system. Thank you for watching and subscribing. I hope you are still enjoying our videos.
Fran x
Wow, exciting times for you! Good luck with the house sale\flat purchase and zusching up Connie. More dog action, please!😁
I had a feeling you would do this ,and it makes sense to do the work you want on your lovely boat ,nice to see you both looking so well and happy .Love your video's, Best wishes Mary xx
Thank you Mary. In the end we will have the boat the way we want it. Not how somebody else planned theirs.
Brilliant video guys, really enjoyed that.
Sweet little video, thank you.
This was a really nice video. I have not seen this area of England before. It was good to hear your immediate and long term plans going forward. Thanks so much for doing what you do.
Thank you
Thank you for updating us on your life and decisions. They're the kinds of decisions that need a lot of thought.
That deep lock looked terrifying -- rather you than me!
Beautiful scenery around Heptonstall. And good to see Sylvia Plath's gravestone.
Glad you keeping your boat! Sometimes bigger/ better ain't always the best
I think if we had a bigger boat, we would just fill it with more stuff that we obviously don't really need. Thanks for your comment x
another great vlog, starts my day off well. Keep up the great vlogs
Thank you Hugh x
Hi both, what a joy to watch as always...! So pleased for you both on all the news. We’re wrestling (and have been for some time) with what to do with the house, down size, relocate...blah blah...but family commitments make decisions very complicated...! Good luck with everything...Steve and Sue..🍷🍷
Thanks both. Where are you now? X
At home over the winter months.. Planning our spring cruise. Working out if I'm brave enough to tackle the river Soar...! 🍷🍷
That's a lovely area. I walked through Henden bridge when I did the Penine way. Quite a pull up the hill with a the gear I had. Good luck with all your planning. Thanks guys.
It certainly is great walking country. We need to do more once the house is sorted.
I was there when it opened in may 96 also repointed some of the canal bank wall on towpath side up to modern a bridge in 80s
Thank you Mark. It looks like its holding up well ;-)
Luv you guys. What you see is what you get. Congratulations on your wedding and looking forward to future vids. Keep it real. Del x
Thank you Del x
Hey Fran, you can get heated gloves now on eBay and Amazon .... check them out they may be just what you need....
Congratualtions, exciting times ahead with the new granddaughter, new flat and a revamped Contanza! I've just sold my buy-to-let to fund a boat 😬 xx
That sounds exciting. We have quite a few years to go until we receive full pensions otherwise we would be be bothering with letting. Good luck with your boat
Best Episode Ever. 👏👏👏
Thank you
A very interesting, really like hearing about the history of a place, and lovely vlog.
Thank you Paul. Loved Hebden Bridge and now really looking forward to exploring Todmorden
steam coming off Rich's hands in the lock......... I knew you were a hot one! ;-)
Halifax.....I'd only ever known of the Halifax in Canada before today!
looking forward to Constanze's continuing adventures!
Do are we. It feels good to have some sort of plan .
What a wise decision. Better the devil you know. Thank you for a lovely video. Stay warm. Cheers
Good on you ! Sounds like a well-thought-out plan! By little cottage, it was lovely to see you! Thanks for the village tour, that place is just perfect! Did u stop in the tea shop? That was adorable! Can't wait to hear how Constanze's upgrades go!
We did stop for tea. We had to sit outside with the doggies but we're not after walking up that hill. It is s wonderful little hidden gem of a village
@@FloatingOurBoat oh thats great that you have another buyer keeping everything crossed for you xxx
Our thoughts exactly. We are looking at flats/cottages near main line train stations to let out long term
Awesome update my friends
Thanks 👍
It was nice to see you visiting Halifax. I live in Halifax, but the Halifax that is the capital city of Nova Scotia Canada
Ha Ha! Wish we could come and visit you too.
Welcome to my part of the world! I hope one day to cruise the waterways as you do but for now I feel very lucky to live where I do :) There are some lovely canalside properties here but don't buy on the ground floor especially in Walsden! - We flood at least once every two years and sometimes more often...
You live in a beautiful part of the world. Thanks for the info on Walsden, that's very useful.
Very good and interesting again, once again I sit here grinning like a Cheshire cat which is a good thing, glad you have your minds all set and clear on your future, I did puff & pant a bit on that hill!, it seemed to go on forever!, hope the weather improves a bit for you.x
Hi Albert. So glad we make you smile. What more could we ask for xx
Many sympathies with your Reynards..all 3 of my daughters suffer as do I...really painful in the winter months..
Thank you Andrew. It's a bizarre condition. I can even get it in the middle of summer. The gloves seem to be really good though.
My cratch table is back home that you got from Stafford boat club. It has been up and down them canals many times, as we live in Leeds and did moor our boat around Leeds before moving it to Stafford.
Ha ha. I think it's got s lot further to go until it's finished!
Cold hands, warm heart!
Absolutely!
Love the boat your with.
Wise decisions in this vlog , surprised about the selling of the cottage , thought it was being used regular , stick with what u know , 👍👍
Good luck with your future plans
Hi Guys! Your best video yet.
I have twin grand-daughters due in January. :o)
Yorkshire has wonderful scenery, great folk, and cheap(er) beer and houses.
Allegedly. ;o)
Great Vlog again, hope all goes well and everything works out for you. :-)
Thank you
Our Swift Rapids lock 43 in Ontario Canada is 32 ft wide 120 ft long and lifts 47 ft. Cheers 👍
Wow, that sounds lie a huge, scary lock. I think we'll stick to uk. Glad you're enjoying the videos and thank you for watching.
Thank you so much. I am going to try ginger tea as that is supposed to do the same, but I will keep your advice in mind.
My sister and me, and my niece and her two kids zane 16 and matilda 14 were on that canal a month ago. Take care guys.
Were did you get your knowledge from all the time are you reading it up ? End it was interesting to see that you have a Halifax in the UK like what we have here in Canada. 😊
We have canal guide books but also do out own research.
Deep then there's really deep. While working in Oskemen, Kazakhstan I went to see the local lock on the River Irtysh. This lock has a rise of 42 meters. I took a picture whilst there despite the prohibition by the on site police.
Wow! then does sound deep. I'd love to see it.
Thank you. We are do excited about our plans and our new baby 😁
It's a really interesting area and we're loving the history and old towns
great vlog guys all your plans sound sensible ,,,, just be careful don't want no little riches running about lol
One Rich is enough for any boat
Fran x
Again lovely video... but what happened to the coolie hat for the stove pipe? Haven't seen it for ages... am catching up... might be up to date in a week!!!! Best...
Hi John, I'm afraid I knocked that into the canal one day! 🙄
Fran x
@@FloatingOurBoat sorry to hear that... I checked online at Aqueduct Marinas chandlery and it was £70!!!! Seems a little steep to me....
Congratulations on your wedding and granddaughter due I too am expecting a great granddaughter on Christmas Eve
Congratulations
