So... I got to know about Evelyn Glennie from our English Literature textbook..... and her story made my jaw drop!! No wonder she's been an inspiration for so many young aspiring musicians!!
Well, she said in an interview that she cannot hear so she watches the moving lips of the person talking to her and also tries to understand the person's words by the whole face and especially the eyes...so, yes that's how without being disturbed she can understand people so nicely...@@dhruveeey2604
It is said Dame Glennie is "supernatural," a "genius." Yet what I hear *her* saying is, We all can do what she does if we learn to listen with all our senses -- eyes, touch, the kinesthetic sense in our bodies that isn't quite touch but is related to touch, and probably (although she doesn't say this) our spiritual senses too... She challenges us to move beyond our supposed limits. Dame Evelyn, I accept your challenge.
So lovely to hear Evelyn's beautifully-modulated speech patterns. She sounds so much better than even the majority of fully hearing people do. I have a hearing impairment too - down to 2.5 Hz in my right ear and 3.5 Hz in my left, but although I, like Evelyn, find it difficult to hear speech in noisy situations or within crowds of people and need to lip read as a prop, nevertheless I can enjoy singing and playing the piano.
What a woman! I would have loved to be in the audience with her playing live. The tiny speakers of my headphone set doesn't do the conversation justice at all.
The chapter The sound of music from beehive is like amazing and the talent the both Evelyn and Bismillah have is more great . Love this story and both of the great musicians
She is so inspiring! I found her Scottish accent to be very cute just like Montgomery Scott (James Doohan) spoke in star trek. We miss you James Doohan
I have always been suspicious of her supposed "deafness". She can't be too deaf - she can obviously hear herself or she would not be able to speak so naturally - and pick up a Scottish accent. She couldn't do that by lip reading! She tends to waffle in a non-scientific way, which is more of a performance and doesn't impress me.
@@McGravity1 she could hear till she was eleven. Don't make up stories, get ur facts straight and never talk anything wrong about people, who have achieved so much. U are a loser. Wtf u aren't famous, she is. Stop being a pusyy
Classical music performances are full of showmanship and pretence, like the rule that accompanists always need their sheet music in front of them. Some times they even have another person to turn the pages for them, as if they had never seen the piece before! Evelyn Glennie's "deafness" is always used to impress the public but really she doesn't need it as she is a superb player of her instruments.
OMG those woodblocks sound so awesome! Like a playful sensory orgasm for my ears! Never thought such a simple instrument would give me so much pleasure! I guess it's because there's 4 hits going on at the same time with a milliscule delay from eachother. That sound effect usually gives our ears a sense os ASMR pleasure.
She said that she doesn't has any kind of superpowers ..it's just hard work and even we can feel music through our body....but it's hard ...at least for people who can hear
She corrected his pronunciation of Evelyn - short "E", not long "E". So, hard to believe she is simply "deaf." Whatever her condition is, it's more complicated than most of us understand. maybe even beyond what the "experts" understand? Anyway, she's a wonderful musician and fascinating person.
She is really a inspiration for teenagers, who accepted that he doesn't do anything in future just bcs of lack of sources..... I solute to your hardworking not your profession
I was really confuse because as it is written in my book it is not seem to real. I m shocked although she is deaf but she had not asked any word to repeat.
So I'm not alone then!! I too am here to see this amazing lady for I too have read about her in our English Literature textbook (Beehive) and her story literally left a deep impact in my heart!!
