Nice to see a GT 500 that someone has ACTUALLY driven and enjoyed! For a car with 210,000 miles on it, It looks like most of those were highway by the way the body and the undercarriage look. I'd love to see a follow up video on the condition of the engine and supercharger with that many miles on it.
Body rot only happens if those miles were put on it in the winter where salt is used
@@firedemon2166 I always find it astounding how much rust a lot of cars in central and northern North America have. One of my cars is a 23 year old Toyota, and it has nothing but a few patches of mild surface rust on the underside even after two decades of sitting in the driveway and being driven daily with maybe a bucket of soapy water thrown at it every few months if it's lucky. Really haven't had a problem with any car rusting post 1990.
@@Beer_Dad1975my Chicago raised 96 Camry is completely repeat through the floor on the back passenger side and body panels and underneath, I do not care tho it still runs like a champ and willl continue to run it until it snaps in half

My old body also has worn out parts.
In that boat too. 😢

I Love how she at times throws him under the bus
That shaft joke was neither subtle nor low key.
A high performance, forced induction vehicle with over 200k. That is damn impressive. It was probably owned by someone who took care of it and didn’t mod it and drive it to wrap around a telephone pole like so many Mustang owners do.
Till you see the 1500lbft diesels with 1 million miles. The mustang could last longer with an oil bypass filter
I have numerous customers with Audi 2.0Ts, 2.7Ts, and a handful of 1.8Ts with well over 200k miles, some even approaching 300k.
@@VorsprungDurchNikWhoa, talk about an extraordinary maintenance bill.
I would say that a third of people that own high performance cars tend to baby them and take care of them well. Thats why most of the older cars on the road that are in pristine condition tend to be older muscle cars and sporty car specials.
Agree. One of the few Fords worth owning
The Wizard and I have something in common: we both are fanatical about making sure that our wives' cars are in tip-top shape! I have no respect for anyone who neglects their spouse's vehicle-- from tune-ups to tires; from batteries to bushings... our wives should not be worried that their car might leave them stranded.
Same. My wife's got a 24 Honda but even the older cars she drove were tiptop shape and she's a clean fanatic on the inside :)
Just leave all that stuff for your wife’s boyfriend to take care of.

Hi Michael. When you posted it was 5.00 o'clock am in New Zealand. But it's Wednesday 😅
The stock clutch and flywheel can easily handel 500 hp with normal driving conditions ! That's the result of alot of showing off !
I have put 100k supercharged miles on my stock civic clutch. 140k now... Just don't slip it under load and it'll last.
The stock clutch is GARBAGE in the 2007-2009 GT500. That is just common knowledge in the community. Mine went out at 15K miles and I drive like a grandpa lol. Ford made awful clutches for those few years. This RST clutch isn't even the best option. RXT is. But RST is better than stock for sure.
Can’t handle about 670hp though
You don’t want a strong clutch let the clutch take the abuse. A expensive strong clutch will just transfer the stress to the trans. Stock clutches are easy to replace. To me a clutch is just a maintenance item
Mrs. Wizard gonna be too cool for school in that GT500. Enjoy that Mustang Mrs. Wizard. Now onto tires. I bought an '07 Mustang GT with 16K on the odo miles last year. The tread on the tires looked nearly new. I checked the date on the tires, and they were 11 years old.😀
She retired from that teaching job
Tell me you are a fake fan without telling me you are a fake fan.
How about some 305s but 275s up front. I heard a guy put 305s on all 4 being a guest on Matt farahs letting him test drive his 2002 camaro. If someone can tell me if a square setup actually handles better?
Not at all
Order the new ones and Hickory smoke the vintage ones.
Thats a nice mustang gt500 even with 210k miles . What happen to the ferrari.
Probably parked next to the viper and ss Silverado. He mentioned he was starting a collection of cars he’s always wanted
Mileage doesn't determine a cars condition. I've had many cars with over 200k on them and they look, run and drive better than a lot of low mileage cars with less than 75k. I actually looked at about a decade ago, a 1992 Buick LeSabre, in show room condition might I add with all original miles, or8g8nal engine and transmission(seller forgot to list the actual mileage) I figured in that good condition, it couldn't have really much more than 100k. Turns out when I got into it for a test drive. The odometer showed a staggering number of 445,78X and it ran and drove like my 115K Buick Park Avenue. I just think these old 3800 V6 cars just don't want to die and keep going. Ya just gotta change you Engine Oil and Transmission Fluid
Same. Every car I bought for the last 10 years needed tires. People just dont replace them.
Everytime I sold them, they came with Michelin Defenders with 500-1000 miles or Michelin Cross Climate 2's! 😅😂 It's like the time I know to get rid of a car is buy new tires right around 100k.
For me when the tires need replacement I think about keeping the car and fixing all the minor issues including tires or replacing the car all completely and factor in the money I would have spent in repairs on the old vehicle
Tires, injectors, spark plugs, brakes and rotors, new headlights, transmission flush, wheel bearings, bushings and suspension. Etc.
The first car I bought with my own money had a new set of tires. Problem was that it was the cheapest tires available for 13" wheels that the previous owner had bought just so that it could pass the state inspection. However those tires were so cheap that they could not hold a corner a decent speed well. Which led to me having two close calls when the tires gave out on two turns. The last incident was the last straw that led me to replacing all the tires with the best set I could find in a 13" size. Found a good set from Costco at the time that served me and my spirited driving well for the time I had the car.
@@evoman44 Buying anything less than the best tires is always a bad value. Tires are the #1 safety and performance part on any vehicle. By the time you mount and balance tires the cost between the best and the worst isn't that much. The life you save is likely to be your own or someone you care about.
I despise a crooked steering wheel as well. Gotten cars back from the tire shop for an alignment with the steering wheel as crooked as when it went in. One guy started to argue with me that it didn't make any difference if the steering wheel was straight, and it was $50.00 extra to correct it. I didn't ask him how much extra it would be; I already knew that, I asked for him to fix the issue, not for a price quote. My brother passed last year and left me a 2003 GT with V8. Sadly, I am too disabled to drive it, can't get in and out of it. Sold it to his boss, so I know it got a good home.
That happened with me regarding my 2000 F350 manual tranny with the 7.3 powerstroke. I couldn't reliably get up into the truck anymore! Not only that with was with the shortbed dually which also aint made anymore. It also only had 161k on it.
I have an even worse problem with my ancient 1969 Buick Wildcat convertible... The steering behaved nicely, and return to center after you went around a corner. I took it in for tires, and an alignment as long as it was there. I drove it out the door, made a right turn and it wouldn't return to center at all. NOBODY has ever been able to fix it completely ever since!
How can it be "extra" to align the steering wheel when doing an alignment? This world has gone insane!
@marko7843 The alignment guy took all of the caster out of the suspension geometry, needs to be shimmed to have at least 3 degrees negative caster.
@@tomjames7955 thank you Tom, you're exactly right. When I had the center link replaced last year, I asked for some more negative caster. Then, in the kind of insane coincidence that seems to happen to me, on the drive home it got stiffer turning the wheel either way. Over the winter I had to replace both bearings in the upper bucket of the tilt column. The upper cage had just then broken, and it turned out that the lower bearing cage had been busted so long there were only two or three balls left in it... I just hope they're all not jamming something down below now!
Agree wizard, I hate small noises while I am driving, need to fix everything.
So far the GT500 is gonna be what my favorite interest in content on this channel😁
Guess I got lucky with my 09 f150 5.4 300k and running strong. Changed the timing setup at 290 just because of the miles but nothing looked bad. Just goes to show that regular maintenance pays.
Same with me...very reliable, but you have to maintain it. oil change at 3k
I have a used oem front chin splitter that your car is missing. You can have it for the price of shipping!

I am glad to see you taking the time to put this sweet car back on the road as it should be. I was one of the project managers on this from the beginning and had the pleasure of following up all the manufacturing tools on this car. You might also like to know the little history of this car. That beast is definitely worth the money.
Those look like Ford Performance sway bars that are made for Ford by Eibach and are painted blue instead of red. There should be a Ford logo on them. You just need to replace the polyurethane bushings. The ones used in those bars are made by Energy Suspension. You can buy the bushing kit and silicone grease. The person who had the car probably did not use silicone grease on them which would have degraded the polyurethane bushings. Have you tried filling them with grease? They seem to be bone dry now. These bushings will get noisy if they are not greased through the fittings.
super charged V-8 with a manual transmission , Mrs. Wizard knows how to roll. My mom would only drive manual transmission cars, she taught me how to drive a manual . RIP Mom. Nice ride Mrs. Wizard enjoy that car very few people get to experience a GT 500. So nice you got one.
Hell of a lady, Ma Roberts.
Mr. Wizard and Mrs. Wizard seem like nice folks.
Looking at that clutch I'd say there was a few drag starts in that cars life
You just got to appreciate the banter and innuendoes between the Wizards. Keep taking care of the Mrs...she deserves it!
The 5.4L DOHC is a great engine but don't hate on the 4.6/5.4 3V. With good maintenance they're usually trouble free for at least 150k miles. If you replace the camshaft drive system and cam followers/lash adjusters with the Ford Performance updated parts, these engines will go past 300k miles.
They're great engines, one you replace all the components!
Love the wizards 🧙♀️ 🧙♂️

They're low key innuendos between these two love birds is both corny and enduring.❤
I own a 2003 F150 with the Triton 5.4. 260,000 miles and it still runs perfect, no oil leaks, doesn't leak any oil. Proper maintenance make all the difference.
Lol! I’m the same way, Car Wizard. The littlest noises bother me too. And I can’t stand when the steering is not aligned. I will spend whatever it takes to keep my cars driving perfectly. 🙂
I have a 2014 Mustang GT with a Roush blower and a 6R80 automatic. It's a bulletproof setup, even at 625 flywheel horse. Car has been very reliable with no major concerns since I bought it in early 2015. Runs low 11s at 121 mph in the 1/4, despite full weight every option car. I'll never sell it. Love S197s...except the ones with the turd-burglar 4.6 3V.
Typical coyote elitist. The 3v 4.6 is a good motor and decent for what it is and what they cost. They're not nearly as fragile and enemic as coyote guys make them out to be. There's something about coyote guys they just love to hate on the 3v and talk down on em. Many of them even do that with the gt500s pre 2013 which is even more stupid lol.
@@midnight347 I'll acknowledge for sure that the thing that kept me from buying a Mustang subsequent to owning my 1988 LX for 13 years, was the base 4.6 mod motor, although I came close to buying a 1997 Cobra 4V but, couldn't swing it at the time. My first Mustang after this blip in history was a 2012 6 speed manual MGT. When a car picks up ~100 horsepower in one year and has a truly modern DOHC engine, I was convinced. I'm on my second Gen 1 'yote now.
The astonishing thing is that a Shelby GT 500 made it to 200,000 miles. In fact I'm surprised it made to over 100,000 miles, not because they're crappy cars, it's because these Mustangs are usually abused to the point they're blown up, or wrecked.
Heavy clutches ! 's why I have a left leg like a rhinoceros ! (cable operated vans !)
Good Videos Wizard! 👍 keep em coming
You might want to consider a new alternator, the factory spec wasn't really rated for 5.4 SC and I had to replace them several times in a year until I got an upgraded model. Car would give little warning before the battery died from failed alternator.
In my case, there was a ground cable that seemed to be tight to the engine block because of corrosion, but it wasn't really. I bought two or three alternators before I found the problem. After that, no new alternators...
Nations is where it's at they have a killer 270 Amp alt for these that changes the actual style of alternator from the factory 6g (crap) to the large case Denso style like 2010 up mustangs got factory. The problem is the style alternator itself. Getting a factory 6g style high output is not the answer. You gotta also change the style of alternator and nations makes one that is a bolt on 270 Amp unit and its great. I went ahead and did the alternator on my 07 before the factory one even failed because I learned from others. People who buy stock replacements go through them like crazy even if you get a stock style 6g ho alternator same thing the 6g style is the issue with them. Get rid of that for the nation's and no more problems. That also covers you if you turn higher than 6200 rpm which wears out regular alternators that came keep up in that range. 6500 is max safe rpm anyways on these with a stock bottom end they have a long stroke and don't like revs much but if you abide by that and give it as much octane as you can these things are stout and live at big power levels even being beat on long as you maintain it properly.
Mrs. Wizard is a keeper!!! The two of you together make the channel great! Keep up the good work!
Excellent choice for Mrs. Wizard. Love the S197 design. Got 448k on mine , will keep her going as long as possible.
The video work is so good as it follows the narration and expands closeups of auto components.
Great video. Your so good taking care of Mrs Wizards safety ❤
Wow, already reached 1 mil sub.Congratz wizard
Good move with the Mcleod clutch related parts. I have a fiiend who also had a GT500, same year, and he went through several different clutches and did not ever find anything as nice as the original clutch, to include when usinf oem replacement pats. He eventually bit the bullet and went with a McLeod Clutch and related parts in. From that point forward he was once again thrilled as he had no more slipping clutch issues, and the clutch mechanism worked smoothly and properly.
I am the exact same way with noises and alignments! I need the wheel to be STRAIGHT!!!!
Reason I sold my truck needing tires is because I preferred the buyer choose what they wanted to put on it.
I do the same with the rest of the car. I don’t know if they will want OEM or not, so will leave it to the next owner to make all the part buying decisions.
Agree with the Wizard about fixing the small stuff! I'm the same way... OCD? Nope... I just want to restore what isn't working correctly! Nice video Mr. & Mrs. Wizard!👍

It's funny how some of us get so attached to our vehicle. I truly love my truck. She's always been there for me...
god these videos are SO comfy, congratulations on 1 mil buddy
She is definitely worth it 👌, she's a beautiful lady and a very nice young lady. Good luck with the Mustang and drive safe Mrs Wizard. Have fun
I have an 06 Mustang GT, one thing with these older S197s is that the window regulators get worn out. Ford dealer near me said they get worn out and are considered obsolete. There’s after-market options and “vintage” parts out there if yours starts having problems!
THIS IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT S197 MUSTANGS JUST GREAT LOOKING VEHICLES! HAVE A 2014 S197 V6 MT82 305HP GETTING 30+MPG THESE THING WILL APPRECIATE FR
I drove a friend’s wife’s 2014 GT with live axle and early Coyote motor after doing brakes and fluids. It’s a stock clutch and I thought it was very heavy. The character of the car makes it seem like a “wild Mustang”that’s hard to tame (drive fast with finesse). Shifter is not light or precise like my 6sp. It’s def a burly car. Kudos to Mustang drivers who have to deal with all that lol
I ran the McLeod RST for one year and was not a big fan of it. I then switched to a Centerforce SST twin disc and its been in the car for years without problems. Light pedal and awesome holding capacity and quiet
Congratulations on the 1 MILLION SUBS!!!!
My father has an 07 and it needed a clutch after 13,000 miles! It was also really heavy and did not engage well. The updated design is much better and so much lighter. If you did not have a strong leg, you couldn't drive it with the original clutch!
Sharp ride. Can't wait to see the finished product.
I bought a 2003 Buick lasabre with 65k on it and you guessed it the tires were trash. Drove it straight to the tire shop. The thermostat took a 💩too so easy 5min job to fix that, & a new temp sensor.
Driven abt 12-13k in the last 10 months, & ive done a lot to it under the hood. Radiator rad hoses, abt to do the upgrade to get rid of the plastic intake that can destroy the engine, & replace all the intake gaskets. I got a series 3 intake with an adapter plate to fix it for good.
Imagine if u didn’t buy a Chevy 😂
Agreed with the factory shifter being great! I believe you can also use an OEM 13-14 GT500 clutch if you wanted a nice upgrade with good driveability
I understand your viewpoint in regard to the Triton 3V 5.4. I owned a 2006 F150 Lariat 4x4 supercab with this engine. I had zero issues with it running properly, but did have the sparkplug and exhaust manifold issues that had to be corrected. It was a great truck until the frame rot made it unsafe to keep driving. Midwest winters and thin steel boxed frames just don't go together. The truck was outwardly in beautiful condition, even the leather interior looked new after 13 years and 158000 miles. That engine was a failure to so many buyers, but I got a good one, and still kind of miss that truck.
Great job identifying all of the issues. Proof that with proper care, many cars can last. Doesn’t hurt to have your own shop 😉
great video. nice to see these improvements
I gave my son my old '06 Mustang GT 5 speed. He grew up riding in that car and loves it. Same thing; replaced all the bushings, tie rods, clutch parts and even a lightweight flywheel. The car was never wrecked and drives like brand new. Original engine and tranny are stiil excellent at 190K miles. He says he is going to keep the car.
I’ve had numerous S197 mustangs, you need a one piece driveshaft to get rid of that driveline clunk, even if the two piece is in good shape it will still clunk.
and tighten up the rear end. Mine was sloppy from the factory.
I loved my 07 GT500 vert. Great cars, so much fun for the money. Worth the updates/fixes.
I put the same clutch in my Boss 302. I love it, some chatter below 2500 or so if you lug it, but nothing terrible. Mantic is also another good option for a clutch.
Congrats on reaching one million subscribers Wizard.
Very interesting episode Wizard, I never knew you could get twin disc clutches. Reminds me of Airliner brakes! Cheers😊
The poor 1966 Malibu in the back needs some Wizard love and attention. Great videos as always love the GT500.
Who needs a subwoofer when you have clunking linkage?
I agree 1000% on the alignment Wizard.
I drive the same year Bullitt, which was also made by SVT, and yeah, they knew what the problems were and fixed them in advance... the spark plug issue, the ignition boot issue... and more, somewhere I have a whole list of the changes they made.
That is going to be a super sweet ride once it’s all sorted. 😊😊😊
I used to work with a guy that had a GT-500 Mustang. His factory clutch was very heavy; a lot of effort and definitely not fun in stop-and-go traffic. I don't think anything is wrong; that's just the design; only remedy is the dual clutch Wizard installed.

I'm from New Zealand, and we don't mind the high mileage. As long as it's been maintained.
Gonna be a very nice car Mr and Mrs Wiz!!
That mustang with 600 horsepower and over 200k miles, that is very reliable. A Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes… with that much miles on it will have some serious mechanical issues. Low but behold, sometimes cheaper is better.
Miles of smiles when it's repaired!
Fantastic Mustang thanks for sharing!
This GT500 suspension wise is in a similar situation that my 2006 GT was in when I got it at 131k, the wheel hop in the rear was terrible, it felt like the whole rear axle was going to come out from under the car with even a hint of wheelspin, but engine and drivetrain were solid, ended up replacing every single bushing except the sway bar bushings because they were still good and the difference was night and day, so much more predictable over bumps and no more clunks
Powerflex set to fix all the suspension issues. Before changing tires, burn em well :)
I own a 2008 Mustang 4.0L. Overall it's been a good car at 147K miles. Don't know how many miles it go before engine replacement for the death rattle of the timing chain. I still claim, It's more fun to drive than the law should allow. Enjoy Ms. Wizard.
LOL! Wiz: I'm playing with your shaft.
Mrs Wiz: I don't have one of those.
😂 Wizard made me laugh! The steering wheel is off center in my truck but with the spoke design and where I like to keep my hands I actually prefer it that way.
I'm picky about the alignment, too! Why can nobody align a car properly anymore?
Waiting impatiently for a video about the Fiat 600 in the background. You've covered almost all of the cars of my childhood now; Citroën DS, Lada, ... This is just missing the Simca 1100 and Citroën GS and a Saab 900.
The Tremec shifters are excellent from the factory. I have a 2004 Mach 1 with the 5-speen Tremec TR3650, 129K miles. Still shifts like new; even still running the original clutch.
Mcleod stage 1 clutch and mildly lightened billet flywheel on my Mustang GT - Very happy with the street drivability and ability to grab.
That car is worth the money invested and is probably more reliable than anything brand new today. Great looking car and my personal favorite body style. I am just like you too I can't stand a vehicle that does not drive right. I have to have perform as it should.
Hello wizard I enjoy watching your channel. I want you to know that I put a McCleod RST clutch in my supercharged mustang 10 years ago. I don’t drive much anymore, but it’s still working great a little sidenote is that when I bought that clutch Red McCleod suggested it And told me that he designed it and it’s why it’s called RST red Street twin.
Wizard youre my hero.
He hasn't even checked on the valve train yet. Plenty of surprises waiting for him there.
I'm surprised that the sway bar bushings are worn out, because those bars are from Steeda and the bushings are polyurethane. I guess everything has a lifespan. Keep up the great work, Mr. Wizard.
I went with a centerforce dual clutch because mcleod was having an issue with their clutch. Works great and better than the stock one.
Gonna take a second to get used too that RST there Ms. Wizard, you’ll love it after that.
