Robin Ventura...the only player in MLB history to get hit 6 times by a pitcher in a single at bat.
+Gary Brice lol
+Gary Brice :)
+Gary Brice i shouldn't laugh but this one got me
Gary, he was simply trying to harm Nolan Ryan's pitching hand with his face.
Jajajaajajajajajajajaja
At most sports restaurants in North Texas you can easily find a photo of Ventura in the Ryan headlock, usually with Ryan's signature.
Lol, nice
Matthew Bennett As a Texan, I can say this is true :D
ACLegoDude I spent three years in Fort Worth...the picture has a place of honor in Buffalo Wild Wings on Hulen.
Matthew Bennett i found that in V.I.P Pizza in California
+Matthew Bennett That's awesome!
Nolan said that he ended up at the bottom of the dog pile with his face in the dirt and was honestly afraid of passing out. He felt a big arm reach down and grab him up out of it and it was Bo Jackson. Talk about sportsmanship. Bo was always a class act.
Ironically the same guy who unintentionally hit a line drive at Nolan that split his lip open a few years before. Bo had loads of respect for Ryan after that as Ryan finished out the inning, got his lip sewed up, and finished the game! Ryan was as tough as they come!
@noelgreer3921, REALLY? No dirt on Ryan's face or on his uniform.
@@sergeantmasson3669watched the later of the video you can see an arm around Nolan’s neck as he’s being pushed down, the pile is right on top.
That was the first thing I noticed....Jackson, the dude that could probably take 5 guys down himself with one arm while holding 5 back with the other....was the arbiter of peace. Stand up guy for sure.
@@gabesampson260190s were a great time in sports.
ryan struck out over 5000 batters, pitched 7 no hitters and punched ventura 6 times in the face...Those are hall of fame numbers right there.
Never to be beat or tied😅
McGwire, Bonds & Sosa should have punched Ventura more often.
Lmao u a fool for this!
He walked over 4000 batters, had only a 3.26 ERA, had a winning percentage of only .526, was the third losingest pitcher of all time and only fourteenth in wins. Oh yeah, only a .500 record in post season with one win coming in relief.
@@howie9751And so are you saying he isn't deserving? Salty much?
There was no "duking it out"
That old man straight embarrassed that kid.

Please. Those Ryan punches to the top of the head had nothing behind them. Nugies at best.
That's what happens when you charge a guy who owns a ranch and wrestles steers. 🤣
Question: Were those 100 mph punches?
Ventura kept hitting Ryan in the hand with his head.

Parking in Arlington Stadium $10.... Ticket to the baseball game $20.... Watching Nolan Ryan demonstrate his steer wrestling PRICELESS.
He rode the kid like a bull. Nolan was a Texan for sure. No question about it!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 ✌️
Just take your base friendly, the Texas way.
Yes!
Ventura was 26, Ryan was 46. Old man strength is real.
If the need ever arose, I still wouldn't have even bothered getting into a physical fight with my dad til probably 5 years ago when he turned 60... lol
46 isn’t old 🥲
I’m 59 and can whip both of them 😂
my Dad always said "old muscles are stronger than young muscles." I just thought it was propaganda for my brother, who was 7" taller. 🙂
And he looked every bit of 46 😂 respect ✊🏽
Nolan Ryan was 46 when this happened. I still can’t believe he played ball from the late 60s to the early 90s! Played in 4 different decades
He's one of less than ten players to appear on at least one game in 4 consecutive decades.
Dang! 46 is old!!!!
@@TheGtagtr In baseball, yes, but in life, no.
7 no hitters. 5000 strikeouts. More than 300 wins. Huge fast ball throughout. Legend

Frank Thomas, Bo Jackson, Nolan Ryan, and pudge in the same fight? Naw im not leaving the bench
Don’t forget about palmeiros mullet
I'd be in the clubhouse.
Only one missing from this brawl is the Nature Boy himself
And it's the clubs managers who are the most aggressive.
😂
Nolan Ryan throwing hands, Pudge trying to break it up. Mickey and the Sox manager almost scrapping. Then you have Bulldozer Bo moving like 7 people by himself. This is what you call an absloute legendary moment.
And Bo Jackson picked Nolan Ryan up off the dirt as Ryan ended up at the bottom of the pile face down. Bo Jackson is and was always a class act.
Good thing BO was just trying to bream everything up, and not throw punches himself. Things could have gotten even more out of hand
I love how Ryan takes off his glove first, before getting Ventura in a headlock and wailing on him. This isn't his first rodeo!
Bulldogging steers was his rodeo specialty 😂
@@charlescastillo8870 that is 100% true

Ryan round Ventura up and branded him!

My friends, that there is not only the strike out king! but he shares a spot with the great Pete Rose as the hit king as well...just ask ole Rob..Nolan Ryan proven to be a force not to be messed with..The greatest pitcher to ever touch a mound..love to watch him pitch..
Yeah, we call it Farm Tough up here in Canada. Hockey players are often made from it.
Don't mess with someone who's going to punch you while the catcher is holding you so you can be punched.
Yawn; yes, you can. Ventura just didn't know how.
The way Ventura was headbutting Nolan Ryan's fist was SAVAGE!
Such technique!
And when Ventura thought Nolan had enough… he passed out
"He commenced to wailin' on my fist with his face!" - From an infamous brouhaha between Donnie Allison and Cale Yarborough at the 1979 Daytona 500
You can tell, when Ventura is two steps away from Ryan....he has second thoughts but it's too late.
He’s even admitted that
he probably thought the mound made ryan taller than he was....when ventura was 2 steps away from ryan - he saw the mound wasnt making ryan taller lol
Damn Nolan was 46 balding heavily and still just manhandled Ventura. Never underestimate the older guys
When men lose their hair, they become very dangerous because they are so angry. A man's hair is the truest outward expression of his health and vitality. They have nothing to lose at that point.
George Foreman went bald, too. Didn't seem to weaken him any. :)
Pedroia went bald in his 20s. It’s genetics, not age.
Old age and treachery will always outweigh youth and exuberance.
balding has zero to do with strength
Angel Hernandez would've called that pitch a strike.

Ventura later admitted that he took six steps towards Ryan, slowed down and thought, "Holy crap, what the hell am I doing?" And years later they reconciled.
Njguy hey that's good to know so I will refrain from comment on Ventura
Ryan was correct to beat his a@#!
I don't think Ryan tried to hit him, just 100 mph ball got away..
He couldn't save face or head.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
It was clear that Ventura had instant-regret as he got close to Ryan.
46 years old and 7th to last game he ever pitched. Awesome. Badass
I have a complete ticket from his last gm in Seattle
Dave Winfield beat Nolan Ryan like he stole something in 1980
Love how Ryan just casually takes his glove off and calmly takes a few steps forward
Nolan Ryan was 46 years old during this brawl.
#Legend.
Indeed. He was still hitting up to 100 mph all the way to the end of his career. AND wrestled cattle in the off-season. If this was mano a mano inside a ring or octagon Ventura would have tapped out or been knocked out. End of story.
he moves pretty good for being 46
Yeah... for Ventura, it must suck to get your ass beat by a 46 year old man on television.
James McKenzie
haha yep.
telephonic I don't know what's worse, getting drilled in the back by a 100 mph heater or your ass kicked after.
Ryan just waits for him to get to the mound and Ventura was ready to fight but Nolan just puts him in a head lock and beats the crap out of him. Easily one of the most badass moments in baseball
Nolan later said he used that move on cattle.

The amount of legendary players in this brawl is astonishing. Nolan, BIG Hurt, Frickin Bo Jackson, Palmeiro, Julio Franco, Pudge, Ozzie, Raines, Fisk, Sosa?, Igor, Sierra.... crazy.
Sammy Sosa was in his second season with the Cubs. Fisk retired a couple months prior. And Ruben Sierra was in his first full year with Oakland.

Many people forget because Ryan was around so long, but he came up old school in the 60's.
You don't charge the mound on guys like Bob Gibson, Don Drysdale...and Nolan Ryan
Just watched the Netflix documentary, Nolan himself mentioned a previous fight he had with Dave Winfield and said he decided if anyone charged the mound again, he'd be the aggressor. 👍
Ryan played through seven presidents
the newspaper headline the next day was "RYAN THROWS SIX-HITTER".
Ryan, Bo, and Pudge all on the same field, God I miss my youth.

You can almost read Ventura's mind when he was halfway to the mound. "What did I just do? But I can't stop now"
he had regrets even before 1 punch was throwed xD
That's exactly what I noticed. He slowed down the closer he got to Ryan. Someone with more fight in him would have kept running full speed.
@@Bob31415 Probably grew up watching Ryan, feeling mixture of pride and respect as he charged. A no-win situation for Ventura. If he actually hurts Ryan, that's not a good outcome for him. So he charges in, gets into a headlock, and takes a few punches ...

1) I will never EVER get tired of watching this.
2) Ryan should have hit the next batter and immediately yell WHO ELSE WANT SOME.
3) Every guy remembers the day he thought he could beat up his old man. And it pretty much went down just like this video.
IF RYAN WERE TO HAVE HIT THE NEXT BATTER OR ANY OTHER PLAYER IN THE GAME, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN THROWN OUT!!! as it was, RYAN was only thrown outta one game, and that was a BOGUS CALL!! and as STENGEL used to say, "you can look it up."

Ventura took him to the ground, Ryan punched the top of his head which would hurt Ryan more than Ventura.
@@CaptainBick Ventura had leverage, but Ryan is trained to wrestle cattle and this is how you do it. While it might not be the right way to handle a human, Ryan has the option of locking Ventura around the jaw and threatening to break his neck. Ventura would have been wise to turn his head inward to avoid this. Ultimately, it's a draw either way. It's not a real fight per se since both knew their benches would tackle them to avoid any real damage.
@@CaptainBick I thought I was the only one who saw 34 with an arm around his neck landing on his old belly. Its at 16 seconds

ThisNamesNowTaken Actually if you look closely Ventura never got hit on the lip. After Ryan got him in a headlock he punched Ventura about 3 times on top of the and then Ryan got knocked down and Ventura was out of there while the others kept fighting.
Yea, youre right he did take one to the face.
He probably did actually. It's called leverage and it's exactly what you want when you're in a close range fight. It's also what allowed Ventura to put Ryan in a choke hold and take Ryan down.
BTW, try punching someone in the skull cap sometime. There's more damage done to your hand than the other guy's skull.
My thoughts exactly...he obviously doesn't know how to fight lol.
Loved it! Nolan gave that young fella a Texas two piece with a biscuit.
The younger guy thought the old man was an easy mark. NOT! He leaned himself for an easy headlock, and some old fashioned, fatherly, nuggies, to the head.
There is a little backstory here on what transpired before this. During spring training, one of the White Sox rookies - Craig Grebeck - hit a home run on one of the pitchers, and Grebeck threw his hands up pumping and showboating. Ryan took note of this. Later that season Grebeck hit a home run off Ryan, and once again showboated down to first. Nolan Ryan had a pretty well established reputation of hitting batters when they pissed him off. The next at-bat for Grebeck, Ryan put a fast ball into his back. Ryan commented Grebeck was getting a little too comfortable up there. To his credit, Grebeck never got a hit off him the rest of the season. Later that year, Ryan hit Grebeck again. A few innings later, the Sox retaliated by hitting Rangers third baseman Steve Buechele. The following season Ryan hit Ventura in the back on a pitch. Two days before the Ventura fight, Roger Pavlik of the Rangers hit Ron Karkovice. Chicago retaliated by hitting Dean Palmer twice and Mario Diaz once. In the next game, the White Sox pounded the Rangers 11-6, with Ryan due up to pitch the next game. The White Sox began crowding the plate knowing that Ryan threw his fast ball low and away, in an effort to get some wood on it. It became clear to the Chicago White Sox bench that Ryan wasn't happy about it, and they were warned that someone was going to get hit with a pitch. This became even more likely when Ventura got a big hit off Ryan on his previous plate appearance standing pretty far into the strike zone. The Sox dugout became aware with the fact whoever got hit with the pitch needed to confront Ryan about it. Unfortunately for Ventura, he was the lucky winner. You can see his hesitation when he gets hit, he doesn't want to charge the mound, but he can hear his teammates yelling at him from the bench, and the rest is history. Ryan Maintains he did not intentionally hit Ventura, the pitch just got away. Ryan had been charged early in his career, and backed down. Ryan vowed he would never do that again. If you pay attention, you can see Bo Jackson pulling his teammates off Ryan to get him out of there. Although the exchange was heated, and a very long time coming, both benches were well aware of the implications.
+Pyrex was getting a little .... WHAT??? TELL ME THE REST OF THE STORY

Ventura is lucky the benches got out there when they did. Ryan was about to spank him like a 2yr old.
+GasCityGuy and break his hand in the process he was hitting on top of his head lol
No it's Ryan who got lucky. Ventura just got the leverage on him to bring him to the ground before the benches came and saved Ryan. Ryan was also dumb for punching the skull cap. You never do that as a fighter, as it hurts you more than it hurts the person's skull cap. Those who don't understand how to fight will think Ryan won this, but it was Ventura who was going to come out on top if the benches hadn't saved Ryan just in the nick of time.
J Smith Yes thank you and during this the announcers were commenting on how Ventura took the advantage. How can no one see that. But when everyone including the MSM want to say otherwise like its a religion. then people never think for them selves.
+J Smith it wasn't even close. Ventura never had a chance.
wrong. Ventura doesn't get leverage on him that is why he is getting punched in the faces. The benches clearing and players rushing is what caused ryan to go to the ground. You can clearly see as they swarm one white sox player grabs the front of Ryan's shirt and another grabs the back of his head and pulls down and forward. Ventura wasn't taking him down by himself.
Best moment in baseball , Ventura face kept running into Ryan’s face !

My grandfather says Mr.Sandy Kofax was the best but I agree with you Nolan was a man among boys in the big league....that's kinda impossible.
@@impittsburghpiratesfandont7867 5000+ strikeouts( record) and 7 no hitters (record) and fastest pitch (record) Yea nolan ryan is the best
Brett N 110 shutouts 400 wins 2x MVP 3x Triple Crown 6x AL wins leader 5x ERA leader 12x strikeout leader a 2.17 lifetime ERA. He threw real hard in his day. They didn’t cal him *The Big Train* for nothing. Plus a member of the inaugural class of the Hall of Fame in 1936.
So Nolan Ryan hit Ventura like 6 times with 1 pitch? That's talent.
+Jarod Morris I busted a gut on that one! LOL
+Jarod Morris Can you Help me Clean My Computer Screen? Cause I just Spit Out My Drink Laughing At This
+Evan Richard, I Also Love Typing Each First Letter Of Each Word Uppercase.
Nah just once with one pitch. Like 5 times with his fist.
Nice. Trying to get likes copying other comments?
The crowd chanting “No-lan No-lan No-lan” makes this all the better haha
Will never forget watching this live on tv at the time. It was and still is one of the greatest things I've ever seen in my life😂😂. Baseball was so great back in these days.
This is how Nolan Ryan goes from Legendary status and straight into Godhood.
dbag0584 terrible
His name is Robin. This was inevitable.
😂😂😂😂
😆
I didn't realize how many other players had to be restrained in this incident. It wasn't just a 1-on-1 fight. It was an all-out brawl.
Not only was he one the greatest pitchers ever, he was also a great puncher.
3:14 White Sox manager nods and says to Ventura “you got your butt whooped...”
LMAO
Best MLB fight I've ever seen. Nolan Ryan just isn't to be fucked with. He just proved it. Like a father whoopin his boy for ditching school.
Anybody stupid enough to put themselves in a position to get slugged by a dude that they know can throw a baseball over 100 mph, deserves the slugging. lol
***** LOL ventura got his arse whooped..Ryan=stud ventura=PUD
***** says the guy who completely overlooks the fact that the only reason ryan didnt continue to pound on ventura was venturas teammates coming to his rescue.
Peter you're clearly an idiot
Ventura had leverage on Ryan, which is in large part why he was able to bring Ryan down in a headlock/chokehold. Ryan got lucky actually that his teammates arrived by the time Ventura was able to take advantage of it.
BTW, try punching someone in the skullcap sometime. Those who know how to fight will never do this because there is always more damage done to your hand than their skull.
Everyone is lucky that Bo was genuinely trying to break it up both times--he was also a pro football player with the then-Los Angeles Raiders, and he could have done some real damage if he'd started throwing punches...
As for why Ryan wasn't ejected--it was Arlington Stadium, and the umpires wanted to leave there in one piece, so it's hard to blame them...
Exactly NFL bo Jackson playing peacemaker
@Unknown-bq9id, Bo Jackson was the wrong guy to mess with. Same with Nolan Ryan.
Hitting a batter with a pitch is not something for which you get ejected. Charging the mound is.
Nolan Ryan was a legend in my household. He was on same level as Santa Claus. That was the 80s. When he laid this smack down on Ventura we weren’t surprised. This guy could have fought Superman and we would bet on Ryan.
He should make his own headphone brand "Beats by Ryan"
What the fuck is Robin doing? He clearly doesn't have a clue how to fight or trow a punch. He goes straight at the guy and instead of throwing a punch he gives the guy a hug. Lol!
Well if that was his intentions then it really backfired because he's been called a wimp ever since and its been a thing for jokes among people of how Nolan whoop his ass since it happened. I think that's been something that if Robbin would have had a magic wand, he would have made the whole incident disappear. lol!
furrynick I know this is back then but I am sure if mayweather can win with hugging today then Ventura thought he could too back then.
furrynick Well, his name is Robin, lol.
furrynick Ventura's nickname after this incident was Speedbag. Just some trivial info.
+furrynick, actually, all of those punches save maybe the last one, were on the top of the head. That doesn't do anything. And Nolan got out of the headlock in the end and was behind Ryan. Had it not been for all of the other people around, that fight probably would gone much better for Robin than for Ryan.
Old man strength on display. What a king.
This has always been one of the most memorable moments in baseball. I can remember watching it happen.
This is also back when arguing with the UMP didn't result in immediately being thrown out.
It doesn’t result in being immediately thrown out now either...
Except balls and strikes, that has always been automatic...
Video should be re-titled "Ryan plows the infield with Ventura's face"
Best part about this....the announcers kept quiet and weren't blabbering their two cents
There are 3 things in life you DO NOT DO...
3 You DO NOT spit in the wind
2 You DO NOT tug on superman-s cape
1 YOU DO NOT charge the mound when Nolan Ryan is the one standing on it...
I just think it's funny that the word "uppercut" is used in a baseball game.
Young kid should know better than charge a tough old cattle rancher.
What an incredibly studid decision, but for me, another awesome Nolan Ryan event (And seeing Bo out there, I believe trying to help Nolan in the pile up etc., great mutual respect they have!!!!!), right out of the blue, to live on in history!!!!! P.S.- I saw it on a news channel when it first happened, it was a great game that he pitched and this was the icing on the cake, thank-you Nolan!!!!!
Yep....
Nolan steer wrestled him lol.
Hawk was quiet through this whole thing. He knew Ventura got whipped.
This is one of those moments from the before times I will always remember.
