One thing I forgot to mention: Objectives are carried in fleets. When any ship passes over an objective, it picks it up and carries it until the game ends, or the ship is destroyed. Ships can only carry one, and squadrons can't carry objectives.

Objectives seem a little odd. I've never played any of OPR's other games, but it is an interesting addition to the game.

I found this really helpful. For whatever reason, I've been having trouble just sitting down and trying to grok the rules.

Nice, thanks for walking through this.
Lighter craft activating first is neat, gives the heavier craft a more lumbering feel.
Accidental collisions has a cinematic feel. Most of the oldschool fleet games I've tried assume the actual ship size is a tiny dot at the center point of the base, so collisions are too improbable to factor into gameplay.

And the fact that many heavy ships have a move of only 2-4" really hits home that they are lumbering hulks while lighter ships move way more.

I feel the order needs to inverted with heavy ships activating first and working your way down to light ships and maybe squadrons being a wild card although that will need some tweaks. Reason I say this a faster ship is going to be more reactive to the movement of larger ones and it'll make lighter ships to act as escorts for the heavies. Just a thought.

@@tritarch6687 While I can see that, I think the reason for this order is that if a heavy ship activated first, it could do damage to a small ship, potentially crippling or killing it before the small ship had a chance of doing something.

@@krinkrin5982 Agreed, it's to counter-act first turn alpha strikes. I think my method would only work if there was an end-of-phase damage resolution like Epic or Battletech.

Great game. It's even fun at half scale on a 3x3 table. Like all OPR, the bare bones are good and there are plenty of optional rules to layer on more and "season to taste".

That's a good idea. On the 6x4 some ships never got in range before being picked off by longer range. The real fun was when every ship was firing every weapon in every arc. I'll give a smaller table a try.

Sounds good except for evaporating ships that fail morale. They should flee to the nearest board edge at cruising speed, it’s relevant for other interactions like rams. I’ll be playing it that way

Yeah, morale in OPR is absolutely brutal. I've seen titans with 15 wounds left flee because they started with 30 even though they are still the firepower equivalent of 2-3 small units.

Any game that's fleet based would work: Star Wars Armada, Dropzone Commander, Battlefleet Gothic. Those are the only ones off the top of my head, but try Googling "tabletop fleet games." You can also find STLs you like and then see if someone on Etsy has the license to print them.
