Howdy! Here's an important update for new viewers of this video... I did not like the internal beads for wheel balancing and ended up taking them out and going with traditional static wheel weights. My biggest complaint was that they were inconsistent, fine for several miles and you'd hit a bump and they would be out of whack. I was very happy with the wheel and tire combo!!! Awesome performance overall!!!
I just returned from 5 days of wheeling in Ouray and 9 days of wheeling in Moab. Plus, the 1400 miles each way from my home. My Patagonias performed awesomely!

Great video on these beadlocks. I have the 35 inch Pats wrapped on procomp 1069 alloys. These beadlocks are only about 4 lbs heavier than mine per wheel. I’m looking for beadlocks and loved the machined look of these - but of course they are sold out everywhere. I can only find them in black and that’s so 2010...lol.
My experience with the balancing beads - they worked just fine however they played havoc with the valves when airing back up.....and that was with the special valves. Pretty much always had to remove at least one valve completely and reinsert it to clear it from sticking. I returned to regular weights after a few months.
The kmc wheels have two valves per wheel so you always have an alternate valve that isn't pointed into the pool of beads. You can also drill and add a second valve to any wheel.
That should be a great help. When I experienced blockage the valve position appeared to be random positions. Maybe bad luck? 1 in 4 valves would stick, again random.

If both tire and wheel are high uality, you should've lined up the yellow/red dot on the side wall with the valve stem in the wheel. Balancing matrial probably wouldn't have been needed. Been doing that for five yers with the company I'm at.

Not enough rubbing to make me want to put the wheel spacers back on but a -18 offset should be perfect. Couldn't afford the beadlocks this time but hopefully soon. Bigger tires less weight I’m in and just started watching!, I hope all is well I know I have Not commented lately but I’m still watching all your videos
first the combination look really good. if you think you won't break the stock gears and axle, ok. hope you don't but it can easily be done with 35s. hope you don't but don't be surprised. good luck.
I am pretty sure he had to regeare. I drive a stock JLUR with 33's and a manual trans. I would not even go to 35's without regearing. Even going to 35's I would lose 6th gear. So even though he didn't answer you I can almost guarantee he would have had to regear!
Next up, axle truss, and c gussets. Those look great. I never found a need to air down low enough to need beadlocks but just remember that added traction may cause some drivetrain issues.
Another great video. Changes the whole look of your jeep, she looks great! Btw all other viewers out there, if you're taking the time to comment take the 1 second to hit the like button.
Any issues with balance vibrations having bead locks? I’m considering bead locks but not sure because I do long trips for example I will drive 400 miles to get to a trail head and I want comfort on the way but once I get there I want to air down I also tow a small modified teardrop trailer for my jeep, half the people tell me the beat locks to vibrate and you feel it other people tell me they don’t not sure which way to go? I do like the mile star tires they are lightweight and fairly quiet excellent tire, I do feel you have to be a little more careful with the sidewalls. 👍
I wasn't happy with the inconsistency of the balance beads but once I got standard wheel weights, these beadlocks rode perfect for 30,000 miles and still do.
@@AutoEdits I think they look great but they are untouchable at the current price. I had half doors on my last jeep. Living in Massachusetts I quickly developed a strong love hate relationship with my mopar ones
Can't tell you how many times I've been pulled over and told that my beadlocks were illegal for highway use. I keep a printout of the state law that specifically excludes vehicles that came with them stock from the factory. I also happen to have a copy of the original window sticker handy for the officer's reference.
Love your videos. Just got a 2016 Jeep sport unlimited. It’s my new baby- I am not gonna be content until I have some good tires and wheels. Then a lift later.. can you help me find some good 33” or 35” that won’t break me! I’m pretty broke now that I got this Jeep. So also I have 17x9 stock rims which I hate! Tires are like mew so I plan on seeking them. I’m on line all the time now Trying to learn the less expensive mods I can do write away. Love that you are so nuts to put bigger and bigger tires on your Jeep. Are you going sell your 35”? Or were they 37”?
Howdy and welcome! Check this video for a couple easy upgrades ua-cam.com/video/qQTm-feOL6w/v-deo.html I would swap the JWSpeaker tail lights that I put in the description but otherwise great stuff! I've been happy with the Milestar tires and they are still affordable in the 35" size.
Have 35's on my truck and the official balance bead website said to use 8 oz per tire, you may need more. Also I had zero luck putting the beads in through a valve stem with a TPMS sensor
@@AutoEdits Really... I expected you might say 5.12s. Cool! So, I assume good around town and on the highway? And the beadlocks... also fine for a good amount of necessary driving around town? (Asking because my set up is very similar to yours, but I have to daily drive... so really grinding on the decision of what gears and wheels to go with.)
Thanks for the research. I may be copying you sooner than later. 37's before, now 38's, did you reinforce the axle in any way? C-gussets, truss... Is the stock 44 handling the load well? I scanned the comments and I didn't see if you made changes or not.

@@AutoEdits Do you or anyone else here have Metalcloak's skid plates on their Jeeps? If you do did do they install over the Rubicon's stock skid plates? Are they worth the money?
Do you ever see yourself upgrading/replacing the radiator in your Jeep? I haven't seen much for quality tutorials on how to do that. I'd like to try to DIY mine as it has a very slow leak, and I'm curious if that's something you would ever consider doing as a video.
I just traded a guy my set of 37 Toyos MTs on ballistic off-road wheels for a set of 38 mile star Patagonia on dirty life bead locks and saved 10 pounds a set up. I was very surprised.
Great video, I've had my eye on these 38" tires, what kind of back spacing did you have to get on the wheels to maintain clearance with the 13.5 width? Don't know if you've tried it but If you line up the yellow dot on the tire with the valve steam it will balance a lot easier without balancing beads, even with bead locks, its a balancing mark. if you get a tire that has a red and yellow dot then you use the red dot. The dots indicate the lighter side of the tire. Granted this really doesn't matter for your 40"+ tires and your more aggressive off road only cause they're always a pain it seems like.
Thanks for the input, I've heard that a bunch about the marks on the tire but are you sure? How in the world do they measure the balance weight in the manufacturing process? About the Patagonia's ... I love them. Only tip to getting best results is to rotate them every 5k miles. They are susceptible to "cupping" but are absolutely worth it. I try to rotate at that interval but let them go to about 8 and started to notice a slight vibration... rotated them and it went away and they've been exceptional ever since.
@@AutoEdits I was preached about those dots during auto tech and then again during motorcycle mechanics school. Honestly didn't get to see why till I started working on industrial equipment and had to go to to a toyo plant to help install a gantry robot that moved tooling around. After the tire is demolded it goes down a quality control line and one of the stations is a dynamic balancer that checks it. Do you think a -12 offset on the wheels is enough for those tires or do I need more back spacing for it to have clearance at flex?
If you want to know how NOT to mount BLs watch this video. First, he didn't line up the yellow dot. Secondly he didnt line the edge of the tire with the rims edging before putting the BL on
I love my Patagonia MTs, been running 37x12.5 for 3 years now and they weigh 10lbs less each than my Toyo 35x12.5 spare with 15% tread left. How do you like the beads? for 38s I think they recommend 10-12oz.
I know you installed the B&M short shifter. Do you still love it? I just bought one and hoping you’re still happy with your purchase. Love your videos!!!!!!!
These wheels are 4.5" backspace and the tires only rubbed at full lock and some compression on the inside lower control arms. Part of that was also due to the fact these tires are not only an inch taller but an inch wider as well. Not a deal breaker and I'm still figuring out what I want.
Aside from the up grades to the jeep I'm wondering if you needed to replace worn ball joints or any other suspension components. I'm sure the metal cloak is holding up as I would expect it to but everything has the chance for failure with all the hard wheeling.
The Metalcloak steering upgrade took care of the tie rod ends and I did just do front ball joints on the axle to upgraded Moog units with sintered metal bearings. I also installed new front unit bearings from Mevotech.
@@AutoEdits I had to replaced the ball joints this weekend on my '14 JK and decided to go with some G2 ball joints. I guess it'll gimme a reason to don the diff covers you're sporting. I hope the products are as durable as they claim. (The diff I know is after seeing your aftermath video) Yes your advertising of brands does influence purchases for me at times.
Not a fan of beads if your air compressor puts even the slightest amount of water in there in completely ruins the balance I had them on my r6 after 90mph my front wheel bounced so hard the tire would come off the ground

Ha! Wife’s garage...
Bigger tires less weight I’m in and just started watching!, I hope all is well I know I have Not commented lately but I’m still watching all your videos
Howdy and thanks! Welcome back to the comments... not mandatory but appreciated!
Excellent information and delivery.
first the combination look really good. if you think you won't break the stock gears and axle, ok. hope you don't but it can easily be done with 35s. hope you don't but don't be surprised. good luck.
Watch more videos on the channel about the Jeep.
Looks killer Jason! Love that combination. Can't wait to see it on the trail
YEAH!
Bigger, lighter nice upgrade! Love the contrast the rims bring to the rig too!
Thanks, yeah it needed a refresh and brighter stance! I'm happy with it.
@@AutoEdits hi I’m new too ur Chanel and love ur videos I got myself a jeep and wondering if u sell ur used wheels?
Looks great!!
Curious if you here regeared and if not, how have the 4.10s been doing both off-road and on?
I am pretty sure he had to regeare. I drive a stock JLUR with 33's and a manual trans. I would not even go to 35's without regearing. Even going to 35's I would lose 6th gear. So even though he didn't answer you I can almost guarantee he would have had to regear!
*Now it just needs a MoTech Gen V 6.2 LS JK Conversion to complete this beast!!!*
Heck yeah it does!
Those Vision wheels look pretty sharp.
I think so too! Thanks!
Great video today , learned something new on the wheels. getting the true Diameter to set Speedometer, gonna have to try that
Thanks!
I learn so much from this channel! Thanks!
Glad to hear this!
You are going to love the milestars!!! Here in Alabama they do awesome in mud and rocks...and you can not beat the price!!
Agreed!
Looks 10x better. Great vid 👍🏽.
I agree!
Next up, axle truss, and c gussets. Those look great. I never found a need to air down low enough to need beadlocks but just remember that added traction may cause some drivetrain issues.
Yup!
@@AutoEdits awesome. I dig your channel. I have one of my own The Right Line and I'm building my 2 door JK. Excited to see where your build goes next.
I love those rims. Nice choice.
Thanks, I've been thrilled with them so far!
Man, that's a lot of fun with the jeep.
I liked the look of the last set of wheels better. ( love your videos 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽)
I hear ya... I liked them too but I like these much better now!
Another informative video at the perfect time .We're shopping for tires and we might just have to copy you with those wheels if they come in black
The Manx does come in black!
AutoEdits I can only find them machined. I’m looking for the black I only see the fake Beadlock in black.
This is an incredibly good video. Very informative and interesting. Subscribed to this channel!
Howdy and Welcome to the channel!!!!!
Perfect timing, just ordered some beed locks
Congrats! I don't recommend the bead balance... just get them spin balanced like a normal tire.
Jeeps lookin awsome.. Can't wait until you get it in the dirt...
Yeah buddy!
Another great video. Changes the whole look of your jeep, she looks great! Btw all other viewers out there, if you're taking the time to comment take the 1 second to hit the like button.
Wow... love this... thank you!
Jeep looking amazing , can’t wait for the next video 🤟
Thanks!
Those half doors towards the end look sick.
Just wait for the next video!
@@AutoEdits I think they look great but they are untouchable at the current price.
I had half doors on my last jeep. Living in Massachusetts I quickly developed a strong love hate relationship with my mopar ones
Love the new wheel and tire combo!
Thanks!
Great video Jason! I miss my jeep! I’ll get another down the road!
Those wheels are sick!
I agree!
Thanks Jason and Pinto 👍
Thank you!
I have 35inch Milestar Patagonia MT's on my JL, you're going to love those tires.
I already do!
Remember when you were like, “I don’t have bead lock wheels cause I don’t do that type of rock crawling 🤣” welcome to the next phase!!!
Looking good! Welcome to the Core Door Club!
OH YEAH! Can't wait to edit that video... those things changed everything!
@@AutoEdits total game changer for me. I can go from full door to half door to tube door within minutes. So glad I pre-ordered them on day 1
I’m glad you sound real and not like some fake auto channel guy with the weird annoying voice.
Me too!
Not sure what descending tone or style that voice is but it’s not convincing at all. Love your channel!! 👍
Can't tell you how many times I've been pulled over and told that my beadlocks were illegal for highway use. I keep a printout of the state law that specifically excludes vehicles that came with them stock from the factory. I also happen to have a copy of the original window sticker handy for the officer's reference.
I have been pulled over zero times for beadlocks.
Do the beadlock rings come with that wheel? If not where did you purchase them and what ring are they. Look great!
Yes they do
Awesome brother. Great channel!!
Thank you so much!
I’m putting these on my wife’s JL for her. Great tire!
They really are fantastic!
Line the painted dot up with the valve. The reduction in wheel weights will be noticeable.
👍
Love your videos. Just got a 2016 Jeep sport unlimited. It’s my new baby- I am not gonna be content until I have some good tires and wheels. Then a lift later.. can you help me find some good 33” or 35” that won’t break me! I’m pretty broke now that I got this Jeep. So also I have 17x9 stock rims which I hate! Tires are like mew so I plan on seeking them. I’m on line all the time now
Trying to learn the less expensive mods I can do write away.
Looks like Patagonia has been giving out tires like candy
Why would you think that?
@@AutoEdits All of a sudden many channels have switched to Patagonia tires
Have 35's on my truck and the official balance bead website said to use 8 oz per tire, you may need more. Also I had zero luck putting the beads in through a valve stem with a TPMS sensor
Yep! I discovered that painful lesson yesterday trying to add more to the tires... LOL
AutoEdits did you have to pop the bead and add more that way?
Yes... and I'm still not thrilled with the results. Eventually will break them down again and vacuum the beads out and go for a spin balance.
I think Pinto is gonna like the new look 👀. But hands-down they do look pretty good 👏🏾👍🏾
I agree.
Dammit Jason, you are killing me here. I've just installed hardwood flooring in my shop and now my wife is divorcing me!
Wait what? Tell her to stay.
Like the look. Did you just choose to go without the black center cap? (I think it looks much better without!)... Also, what gears are you running?
They don't really offer center caps for these and I'm running 4.88 gears and it's perfect.
Bro now you’re ready to Rock but not roll 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Aaaahhhh, Milestar Patagonias... The latest bandwagon tire. Great video. LOVE the wheels. Try some bias Trepadors next time?
Why the heck would I do that? Have you driven bias ply tires on the freeway? No thanks.
@@AutoEdits I forget that you drive that thing.
Thanks for the research. I may be copying you sooner than later. 37's before, now 38's, did you reinforce the axle in any way? C-gussets, truss... Is the stock 44 handling the load well? I scanned the comments and I didn't see if you made changes or not.
Stock axles are holding up ok so far. The rear twisted on me so I welded the tubes but otherwise that's it.
You should point out the dot on the tire is the heavy side. It's where the steel belt meets. It should go opposite of valve stem for best ride.
You are the first one to explain why that dot represents the heavy side! I did mount it opposite the valve stem on this install.
@@AutoEdits yeah that holds true on every tire. Obviously a tire this size can't really be balanced. But put the dot on the right side and those glass beads and itll help.
Wowzers! It looks nice.
Thanks!
The Jeep looks WAY better imo. I hope those D44s will hold up to your skinny pedal action!
Thanks and ME TOO! LOL
“Becareful not to hurt it, then you JAM IT (WHAAMM!!) IN THERE!!” Love it! 😂
Hmmm.... sounds about right for me... LOL
AutoEdits haha still need a onboard air kit!
Did you need to re-gear or are 38's close enough to 37's that you are fine with the 4.88's? Love the wheels. I have Vision Nemesis wheels on my Jeep.
4.88 feels perfect with the 38's and manual transmission.
Another GEM, love all the videos. Now you might have missed a step / Toolbox Buddy for a quick cleaning before slapping on the new 38s. Oh wait did the wheels come with the official Pinto Approval here?
HA! Thanks... yes this upgrade is definitely Pinto approved!!!!
I have to say that you are definitely an "Influencer" as mentioned in your previous video. Just have the sponsors call me and I'll tell them that thanks to AutoEdits I have every mod mapped out for my Ram and some more for the CJ5... (I'll send you pics on IG) From Powerstop, Lietner designs, with the exception of a new Jasper crate engine I think I have it all on my to do list. Keep pumping out these great vids.. Favorite Hacks... Pledge, Toolbox buddy....
Looked on your amazon list. (great resource) but didn't see your license plate mount. I love how easy that was to take off. What brand and do you like it?
I really appreciate that you did that! It’s from MetalCloak and here’s a link metalcloak.com/rear-license-plate-bracket-3rd-brake-light.html
How's that Metalcloak suspension holding out? Is that suspension worth buying? Are all their products the same? Any rust on it?
Fantastic, no rust. There are lots of videos showing the continued use over the 5 years of running it. ua-cam.com/play/PL_oEM8z39tKA42LI4tG8oTVfKFkVBHhQa.html
@@AutoEdits Do you or anyone else here have Metalcloak's skid plates on their Jeeps? If you do did do they install over the Rubicon's stock skid plates? Are they worth the money?
@@lucifer0001 ua-cam.com/video/twkpbC_k4XA/v-deo.html Yes, they are worth every penny.
Another great video! Always like to see the "little things" when I watch your vids. We share some similarities in mechanical OCD!
HA! Thanks so much for watching and sharing ...LOL
Do you ever see yourself upgrading/replacing the radiator in your Jeep? I haven't seen much for quality tutorials on how to do that. I'd like to try to DIY mine as it has a very slow leak, and I'm curious if that's something you would ever consider doing as a video.
I haven't thought of that yet since the Jeep runs a stable temperature but I'll look into it.
Interesting. These wheels have a -18 or 4.5 backspace and did require me to add one bump stop spacer to keep them from rubbing at full stuff.
If you want to know how NOT to mount BLs watch this video.
First, he didn't line up the yellow dot.
Secondly he didnt line the edge of the tire with the rims edging before putting the BL on
lol
I love my Patagonia MTs, been running 37x12.5 for 3 years now and they weigh 10lbs less each than my Toyo 35x12.5 spare with 15% tread left. How do you like the beads? for 38s I think they recommend 10-12oz.
I know you installed the B&M short shifter. Do you still love it? I just bought one and hoping you’re still happy with your purchase. Love your videos!!!!!!!
Yes, still like that thing. Takes some time to get used to it but not having the Jeep jump out of 3rd gear is worth it!
I think I am liking those beadlocks. What was the back spacing, and did they rub without spacers? Thanks!! Love your videos by the way. Thanks again.
These wheels are 4.5" backspace and the tires only rubbed at full lock and some compression on the inside lower control arms. Part of that was also due to the fact these tires are not only an inch taller but an inch wider as well. Not a deal breaker and I'm still figuring out what I want.
Thanks, I run 37X12.5, so they may work. I could also adjust the stops. The price point is huge, and made in USA. I like them!
Beads worked great on our Harley’s.
Good to know!
Not a fan of beads if your air compressor puts even the slightest amount of water in there in completely ruins the balance I had them on my r6 after 90mph my front wheel bounced so hard the tire would come off the ground
how did the wheel weights work
Are you happy or the old traditional way is still better ?? any thoughts on it ?? thanks
They worked great up to 75mph and then got wonky... I’m putting one more 6oz bag in each and it should be perfect.
