The thing I appreciate most about Matt, is that he clearly believes in the value of gaming. It's made him what he is, and he has absolutely no qualms about pointing that out. More importantly, he makes every effort to try and invite others to discover what makes gaming great and transformative.
I love that every time a new Matt Mercer interview comes out-- it doesn't matter how many times he gets asked similar questions, he always has something new to say on a subject. I love hearing about the thought and creativity and compassion that goes into everything he does. People like Matt are what makes the community as wonderful as it is.
Critical Role C2 got me through the worst year of my life. I will never forget the intensity of when they fought the blue dragon in the Folding Halls of Halas. I bursted into tears after the end of the fight and also hearing thousands of people cheer was a heartwarming feeling. Thank you.
On what he said about others wanting you to succeed, I recently came across a quote by Neil Gaiman, who said many of his successful past projects he got because someone else recommended him, or encouraged him to apply for. Sure, there may be a lot of people talking behind your back, but not all of them are hating on you, some are praising you, gushing over you to their friends, and praying for your success. 😁
Found it again; "Everything good that happened in my writing career happened because someone, normally another writer, helped me. Suggested me for something, put in a good word, and so on. The idea was always that you help others and they help others in their turn. It's not a win or lose game." Neil Gaiman
A supportive family, engaged parents, are such foreign ideas to me. I grew up largely ignored at home unless I was in trouble. It is good to know there are people growing up with parents that are involved, that is the future I'd like to see.
As I sit in bed watching an episode of The Mighty Nein, watching the small screen while the big screen plays a thing of comfort. Matt, you are one of the biggest sources of inspiration many people have. Your voice work is incredible in its variance, your world building is atsounding in scope and scale. Your love for your community is inspiring and genuine. It's still the fact that you love/live to fuck up your players' minds as they fall in love with the worlds and stories you build, and how you accept the chaos that they bring. You frekking rock. +1 to all the things. Thanks for all you do.
The rest of the Critical Role cast trolling him in the slide show... and the Omar inspiration. I'd love to see that. My boyfriend and I have figured out what our cats would be as characters as well.
I don't have it in me to timestamp every time I heard her, but I listened with headphones so that might've helped idk. 15 people agreed with me so I don't think I'm going crazy, you might just want to give it a relisten if you wanna hear her @@joncarr5545
Such a great video. Couldn’t love Matt more if I tried. He’s just such a delightful and passionate person. Great seeing & hearing about his earlier life and how everything led him to where he is now. The pics the CR cast snuck in were hilarious. Most of all though the questions asked at the end were brilliant and Matt gave such thoughtful and eloquent answers. Never change Matthew Mercer.
I grew up drawing, I always had a drawing-pad, when we went on vacations, I spent the long hours of driving in the back seat drawing away; I still have most of the pads, filled cover to cover. And that helped with my creativity, I would see a TV show, movie, or video-game and I was inspired to draw the characters, despite my poor drawing skills, similar to Matt apparently, which despite taking Art almost every year in school didn't improve my hand-drawing skills, but then I found Microsoft Paint. 😁 But, I have always been creative, even developing the eye and mind for making intricate designs, like an exploded view of something, or drawing a 3D object from all sides; my parents still talk about how amazed they were that I was doing that at like 10yo, probably helped by also having a big box of LEGOs and K'nex. 😁 And I also loved playing video-games, I had the first Nintendo, with Mario, Duck Hunt, and ?Contra?, then the Gameboy, and then the X-Box and Wii, playing games like Zelda, Halo, Elder Scrolls, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and many others, becoming so fascinated by the stories and lore of the games, inspiring even more creativity. And all that, combined with my love of DnD, anime, History, fantasy, sci-fi, etc., led to me now being a writer (nothing finished or published yet, YET), and doing concept art for my stories; hopefully I'll be ready to share my stories with the world soon. 😁 Maybe that's why I love Critical Role and the cast so much, I guess I felt a connection that I hadn't noticed before. 😁
You could literally play a Vagabond; just a normal dude with no special equipment or powers except, like, campfire cooking skills. Or you could be a Hatchling Dragon with magic, psionics, an innate shape shifting ability, and bullet-proof skin.
50:23 I read a quote once on Twitter that read "Scared? Fine. Be scared. Do it anyway." I think it was on Kari Wahlgren's page but icr to whom, if anyone, she attributed it.
Gurps: Where buying armor points was cheap, but buying health was expensive. Wonderful for campaign balance: You take 500 damage. Great, it bounces off my 510 pts of armor. You take 540 pts of damage. OK, I take 30 health, so I'm dead.
And Palladium system was the best thing as a teen dude in the 90's, though I got in through the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game. Their system for building mutant animals is a character generation dream.
It would have been nice to see this in person. My only gripe about this con was that all the special talks and classes were overbooked before most people had a chance to even register. It's a huge con. Please start making room for all the people who are attending. It's not like the convention center doesn't have the space for it.
Ugh Trent Ikithon an NPC so despicable that when (around the end of C3) the MN decided to ride with our beloved Hot Boi Matt said "Yeah FUCK THAT GUY!"...
Just looking at all the pictures added to the panels by the CR crew I am sure that when he left the stage he got on his phone and sent a group message "I hate you all..." And waited for the laughs, I knows, and you're welcomes to come in.
Praise the algorithm for finding this for me.
Come to the wells 🕳️
Same same samey same

He is such an amazing human being and must be protected.

Matt Mercer is incredible, I don’t think he will ever understand how he has changed many peoples lives. Him and the CR team

i could listen to this dude talk about whatever all day
Love how the rest of the CR cast keeps taking the piss with Matt's slides.

There is so much wisdom in this, I will be rewatching this for years.
TO DO WHAT?!?!? i don't think THAT'S what you're supposed to watch to come...
Love hearing Marisha support Matt through the whole speech 🥲 loved this!

Im disapointed in ashley, and so is the mummy that goes “huh!”
Edit: im no longer disapointed. Well done liam, you did what ashley couldnt.

I love when he saw the size of the crowd and his brain went "Oh My!"
love watching and listening to him talk about pretty much anything
Matt looks like such an amazing person. Even with all this famousness he somehow keeps talking about empathy ❤️
Love that I share the same entry point into DND as Matt. That ADnD Monster Manual was a game changer
I love this human being. The world is better with people like Matthew Mercer in it.
Thank you Matt for all the stories you tell!
This is absolutely brilliant and wonderful.
Was wondering when I would get to watch this!
I see Matt, I click ❤
Thank you for posting this.
Omar the Paladin Barbarian Corgi. Love it
This unplugged is so beautiful
I love the talk of this real reprise of how he is being a real ! REAL! person with his life . Shit I grew up in the era of what he went through
Bless you, Matt, for having the courage to build and share this story.
I loled at "Solid Snake - useless with SDC weapons". 😂 IYKYK
Mega Damage baby. It was the 90s. Everything had to be EXTREME. Rifts went so far over the top, it couldn't even see it anymore.
and it's still fun :) @@JerichosFishStand
Is this Matt confessing he secretly has a vendetta against Liam's boots? This explains the marble situation!
Wow, that's the most anyone has talked about Palladium Books' RIFTS in ages. (Still great fun to play, BTW.)
I love the ankylosaur answer - that's my favorite, too!
He seems genuine to me, this man.
Cada vez lo quiero mas a este tipo lpm... es el Keanu Reeves de D&D
Great Interview.
Thanks!
I started reading those same books at 10. Big influence.
what a great talk!
Matt's reaction to 56:57 is one of my favorite moments in this
Also the timing on 53:17
man Louise Knocked it out of the park in calamity! loved that series!
I really needed this
Rifts was greatest broken table top RPG in the 90s
You could literally play a Vagabond; just a normal dude with no special equipment or powers except, like, campfire cooking skills. Or you could be a Hatchling Dragon with magic, psionics, an innate shape shifting ability, and bullet-proof skin.
It's still a fun setting with the right GM.

Carrie Fisher has a quote like that

Matt is truly the GOAT
I really wanna see Omar in a campaign as an NPC now. Gnome or dwarf barbarian/paladin of the storm lord
He was just played by Matt in the Puppy Roll if you want to watch that. It's on UA-cam
Ahh, the Amber Diceless RPG. I miss that game.
The art in the OG MM2 was a big influence on me in 5th grade
And Palladium system was the best thing as a teen dude in the 90's, though I got in through the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game. Their system for building mutant animals is a character generation dream.
We do not deserve Matt Mercer. This WORLD doesn't deserve such a beautiful person. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
23:50 is this Robin Atkin Downes on the left?

Matt borrowed a fraction of Taliesin’s power to manifest those chairs halfway through this lmao
That was the most taliesin picture he couldve picked i feel lmao

Also, you know that all of them put more effort into busting him up than Matt did to get ready.
That woman screaming like Toad got me where it counts 7:16
We don't deserve this wonderful human being.
If you wanna see the true character of an actor, give them a social media account.
ankylosaurus hype!
Omar needs to happen in CR canon.
Is it just me or does Travis just get bigger every year? He looks so weeie in the picture at 29:33
Sam's prank 🤣
Wonder what Dave Heatwave (his brother) is doing now and if they are close?
Did PAX just not post this anywhere??
It's posted right here. You're commenting under it.

This has overwhelmingly low views for the one DM that puts his all into what he does.
Matts best character, Victor. We need more Viktor. If he plays in another campaign, he needs to play as Viktor. Lol
I hope I get to meet Matt before I go back to non-existence 🥲
