Battleship | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary

It's time for another retro game and this time we take on Battleship. This is based off the movie where aliens invade Earth and battles occur amongst the islands of Hawaii. It was also promoted as a movie that had the singer Rihanna in it. The movie was also based on the boardgame Battleship. Back in those days it was normal for a game to come out at the same time to promote or boost tickets for the movie itself.
Usually these products were rushed or buggy due to the short development time and deadlines of the movie release. Nowadays we rarely have those movie games, but 10-15 years ago this was quite common.
And so I heard some pretty negative things about this game and did not hold high expectations, but to my surprise I had a pretty good time with this. The shooting is average and probably the worst thing about this game are its sluggish controls. But the overal vibe is nice with it all taking place in colorful Hawaii and the battles do feel epic with lots of explosions and ships in the background. You really feel part of a bigger battle that is happening. There are also times where you get to control a ship in real time and can fire on alien vessels which is fun, but a bit underused. There is the option to move ships across a grid in the same sense as the boardgame, but you mostly will be dealing with the FPS mechanics. But the fact that you can upgrade your ships with various cards is a nice addition. In the end I was surprised with how much fun I had, though I definitely would not say it is worth 60 bucks for the price that it came out. I picked up this game for 10 bucks or so and that was money well spent.
