My rear hatch lowor handle got "gummed" up so the vehicle was constantly thinking the handle was pulled in. I took the handle out completely, broke it down into its individual little parts and cleaned it with soap and water. Then lubed it up and put it back together. It works like a charm now!
Yeah! That's what I'm saying. These cars are built pretty awesome. Most of the time you can fix the part that broke. That had been true for me with the steering wheel, the barrel on the ignition, and the piece that connects the shift cable to the shift selector. 325,000 miles still going strong.
One thing I recommend is covering any exposed gas lines with rubber gasket to protect them from corrosion. One little bare section meant I had to replace the whole line which was otherwise fine.
@salemcripple pt2.... all it takes is one misplaced line of code (a "1" where a "0" should be), or one loose wire. And Huston you've got a problem. And a computer can't cope with failure.
@salemcripple You're right i agree with you, this fly by wire is making things more complicated...which is why you gotta keep up today's technology and sharpen your electrical diagnosis skills. Really this is where the money is because alot of the automotive systems are 'drive by wire' nowadays..(Brakes, Steering, Throttle,etc...)--You know??
@AutoTechHector As a tech myself i know this is where the money is. But in my opinion, they're making stuff electronic nowadays that has no business being so. there is no point for it. Take the throttle, brakes and steering. These are the three that if they fail, people can get killed. The old systems worked well enough, and furthermore there was almost no way for them to fail. The switch does NOT make contact with the ground. It makes contact with power, otherwise it can't send a signal to the controller. By definition, ground is dead, i.e. no power. What is wrong with this guy? And what the hell is "outer limits"? For crying out loud.

How do I get to the upper switch? And how do we know if the problem is the actuator rather than a switch? Test the switches first and if they're both good, figure it's the actuator? If I manually open the glass hatch, when I go to close it, I hear the lock trying to lock, but it won't lock until I push the plastic on the glass hatch. Then it won't open with either switch.

I never got a reading on the new lower latch switch but it still worked . The switch is odd , it has a silicon type component on the inside and the hand push switch has a magnet and when you pull up on the hand switch it moved the magnet closer to the component and some how send s a signal to the computer. odd very odd. Does anyone know how it works because its not a simple contact switch .
With all the "hype" about..computers...& how they were, "SUPPOSED" to..make things..all in all..EASIER. But..when a friggin "high-tech" computer..is IN-capable of "knowing" if a switch "door, lift-gate etcetera" is..or, is NOT, open..or closed... It makes me..quite..glad..that when that first "manned" mission to Mars takes place..that.."""I""..will NOT be on it..

Good video. But what ever happened to the simple rods with mechanical releases?? This "fly by wire" stuff is getting out a hand if you ask me.
