That guitarist was Randy Rhoads. Unfortunately he perished soon after this was filmed in March of 82 in a freak small plane crash while on tour with Ozzy. RIP Randy!
Randy Rhoads is my all-time favorite guitarist. He founded Quiet Riot (years before they became famous in the 80s) and was sadly lost in a plane crash just as his career was ascending. One of the absolute greatest losses to music is the death of Randy Rhoads. It's like Haydn or Bach being struck down half way through their career. It still hurts.
Randy Rhoads, made me want to learn the guitar and so I did. He was the only idol I ever had. Still gives me chills everytime I hear any of his songs. Great player, great person... what a tradgedy he was taken at 25. I'm 22 right now, and I could not imagine achieving his success just to die this young. Rest in piece Randy Rhoads, I will never forget.
Randy Rhoads is one the greatest guitar players EVER, I had the privilege of meeting his mom Doleres and his brother at his grave at Mountain View Cemetery In San Bernardino haven't been in a while but me and my brothers used to go on his birthday every year and one year his mom was there, they gave me a postcard of him from Japan and signed the back of it, thanks for reacting to this song and noticing Randy's great guitar playing! Randy Rhoads, one of the best guitarist there ever was. Him and Stevie Ray Vaughan are the reason i took up guitar. Heavy Metal and the Blues became my favorite genres of music because of them. Randy is still missed today by lots of people. Rest in Peace Randy!! we still love you!!
And EVH basically said Randy was a copycat of himself. With all due respect to Eddie, he couldn’t have been more wrong. Randy was so technically sound and combined that with being able to totally shred, and that scared other guitarists. Randy Rhoads is and will always be my favorite guitarist (maybe musician, period). He packed so much talent in that little 5’7” 105 lb. frame!

The guitarist is the late great Randy Rhoads. He is regarded as one of the best ever, but he died in a tragic plane crash at the age of 25. His body of work is small but his genius is massive and is still influencing guitarist to this day. God only knows what he'd have done had he lived.

What an amazing guitarist he was and still inspiring to this day. Thank you for sharing this video . Made my day!

Randy Rhoades was important to Ozzy, professionally and most certainly personally, but Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler played a bigger part in Ozzy's career. Ozzy had good commercial success by the time Randy came onto the scene (20 years). Randy had massive talent, but Ozzy brought Randy into the spotlight.
I love seeing people 40 years later asking who is that guitarist? He was about to become internationally famous as the Lead Guitar player for Quiet Riot. If you will also note the bass player was a founding member of Quiet Riot. You young people today don’t get it. Back then this was a mammoth selling album with videos and a world tour. Ozzy had to hire the best musicians. The whole story about the crash has never made sense and was covered up. Randy was going to become an international super star.

He wanted to show people that metal and classical music are very much related. If you play an awesome guitar solo on a piano it sounds like Bach or Mozart masterpieces.
