This type of money in your sound room would really turn you into a mean person. No children, no pets, no inebriation etc...lol People hate on break in but in my experience even with my setups its key aspect of sound. It very well be a portion of your brain making auditory adaptations but surely there is a big physical component to break in that cannot be overlooked. It also depends on the speakers in my limited experience of mere mortal audio and not Porsche money speakers.
They still have those string grills? Guaranteed to sag. Amazed you don't have white gloves on and use a more elegant and secure method of easing them off the pallet(s) and positioning them. Tipping and walking the speaker into position is what I do. I am a milkman, not an audio dealer. Otherwise, congratulations.
I would think because those gloves would be very slippery against the gloss wood, given the speakers would weigh a great deal, the last thing you want is for them to slip out of your grasp.
markfx12 those string grills are guaranteed to cause comb effect. The design is obvious of these speakers just wanted to build fancy furniture and took no consideration in proper sound design. Its just a Veblen good furniture to give someone the ability to say they spent 85k on speakers during the next dinner party. No speaker requires weeks to break in, the job of a good speaker is to deliver sound to the listener with no coloration or phasing. Want proper speakers, get a pair of Genelec 1236A SAM speakers. They offer 20hz to 20khz within 2db and with GLM you run a sweep that tunes the speakers to your listening location. And an SPL of 130db vs 89db for those, and they offer 300khz to 20khz of 4.3db lol.
A sports car at 85k is just so much more than these speakers. I truly see why a sports cars price is high. A speaker contains a crafted cabinet, damping material, gaskets, cable, crossover, drivers, fixings, stand, paint and grill (if you can call that a grille). There is no way on earth it's worth a tenth of the price to make. Someone mentioned because its a low volume speaker that's why the price is high. I say unfortunately it will be down to marketing hype and making people believe they are worth that value. I get a feeling they are using some very well known Swiss watch companies business model. I certainly do not believe the sound will be 85k.
Its a luxury brand point and case. Can you honestly say a Louis Vuitton bag is physically worth $10,000 in materials and labour? Yes its good quality, but that good? At the end of the day it is still just a bag and will carry lipstick just as well as a Kmart one. At least in industries like high end audio, you do get an experience that feels like your money went somewhere. I think the other point to make is that no there are not $85K of materials or labour here, but I know for a fact having seen it how many man&woman hours go into making each one of their speakers by hand. Its some serious 'craftsmanship' and that's a large chunk of the cost.
So Price = Luxury High End Brand + Painstaking Italian Hand Craftsmanship + Years of research, testing, development & experience and of course they are an absolutely phenomenal sounding speaker.
@@SoundlineAudioNewZealand You can say all you like. I stand by my take on this. No Sonus Faber speakers sound great out of the box. I've owned about 5 different types and they all sound horrible green. Generally 100+ hours makes all the difference. In fact it is so dramatic it is like listening to a different set of speakers.
You are 100%correct, which is why we were in a hurry to get them running in before our event, had them on non-stop for a week, and even after the event they still needed more time on the amp to really run in. Though I do think they did still sounded good out of the box, but they just got dramatically better the more we ran them.
I'm glad you got some good hours on them before the show. I would hate a potential customer to hear them green and think that was as good as they get. Pretty sure I haven't come across another speaker that changes so dramatically during break in. And to think there are people out there that honestly believe amps and speakers don't need to be broken in. They will sound even better with a couple of hundred hours, but 100 hours of full range music, normal volume will take the sharp edges off them.
Science all mighty why so many people still believe in Burn In.... Burn in was a method used in early audio equipement because all audio equipements producted at the time was "boutique". Meaning that speakers had foam suspensions, glue was not cured properly... Etc etc. Now products are well tested, all ready burnt in and suspension material does not needs any burn in to shine. The only thing you are burning is your ears...
Studio refence speakers are simply meant to sound neutral, so when you add bass, midrange or highs they are required, not a side effect of the speakers ability to reproduce sound accurately. These things are just BS, pure and simple...
Yeah but bi-wiring is not as good as bi-amp ! It's a bit of a shame not to exploit the maximum of theses expensives (and very good) speakers. I know bi-amp these with appropriate amplification is very expensive, but it is only as good as the quality of these speakers. Anyway, have fun with these wonders! And sorry for my aggressive comment. See you !
@@GSMaloo Totally correct. Bi wire is pointless. A single left and right amplifier channel output carries 20hz to 20khz, with a single cable to the Crossover input. Using two cables from the same amplifier output simply means you now carry 20hz to 20khz along two cables, all you are now doing is connecting each cable to the low and high part of the crossover inside the speaker. This misses out a small portion of pcb circuitry. The low and high crossover sections still have to do exactly the same job of filtering as it did with just a single run direct from the amplifier channel output. Unfortunately you have doubled your cost on cable for zero benefit. Now bi amping is a different story. You missed a good opportunity on the demo night. I hope to hear some SF at the upcoming Bristol UK Hifi show. Interested to hear how good they really are.
Well in my opinion this is a more solid investment than the M3, you know why? at least these speakers don't break down as easily as the M3 and cost a lot less to run. And if you've taken the cost of traffic fines in consideration these Il Cremonese is super, super cheap and they won't kill you even though they drops on you in an accident. The M3 will. Just my two cents.
Those speaker grills are hideous. poor things, set up 5ft apart in a showroom space with coiled up speaker cables... Hey kids, in the Big Time speaker world 85k is near the bottom floor... :)
What makes these speakers cost US$85,000 is not about cost of materials or assembly cost. Unfortunately it has to do with a too low sales volume to keep the margin down. Had these speakers been made in thousands per year, the price would have been a fraction of it. It’s just how business works and you can’t really blame anyone for the very high margin cause people have to get paid for their work.
Yeah. I’ll best these wankers on my own for a tenth of the price and will get filthy rich doin so. And if you truly love music you will loose your social life for they will reveal so much more in music that can be loved, you’ll spend evening after evening alone with them. But hey, that’s about music reproduction. Not erection encouraging.
Why not buy - for a fraction of the price - all the loudspeakers recording studios have been using to record the albums you love. Would make sense no? You like Pink Floyd’s ‘the Wall’? Buy a pair of Philips 22RH544. Electronically rebuild to factory specs; 500 for both. That’s if you actually love music. If your main interest lies beyond viagra’s powers these will do I guess. Nice long & tall, firmly standing, covered behind a dark hairy finish. And way overpriced, because a good reminder of a juvenile erection can be worth a fortune for those who can afford these instead of the real thingie.
Imagine having to buy 100s of studio monitors and headphones just to meet the criteria of "actually loving music", because you like hundreds of different songs from different artists
First of all, I can't even justify 10K on a set of speakers let alone 85, second of all, $1500 camera. I know that still a cheap camera but your estimate is way off and youtube isn't how we make our money, its something I do on the side for fun so other people can enjoy it too. So investment in a dedicated camera man with a steady cam would not have been worth it.
Nothing better than watching a room full of educated people believe "$1,500 speaker cables" sound any different or somehow move electrons any differently than zip wire/power cords do. This is how people end up with $85,000 speaks that must be "burned-in" to sound better ...
Wanna buy an USB cable for a mere two grand? Specially made for those who can appreciate honest audio reproduction. Even the tiniest audio bit will have it’s own golden wirestrand, which makes perfectly sense in a cable transmitting serial data that gets sum-checked from source to destination. This industry could make so many engineers rich if they only could become psychopaths. Alas, most of them are a bit autistic at most, making them even more honest. Pity.
That's just plain crazy too spend money on 🔊 speakers like that . ,85.000 can be better spent too . 5000.00 Max on nice 🔊 speakers . 10.000 total on audio equipment

@@SoundlineAudioNewZealand Why don't the manufactures do the running in for speakers of this price?!
mfr58 if you buy a speaker that’s “run in”, it’s considered used. Grow a speaker yourself, learn its traits and enjoy the process.
MY GOD THE BOXES ONLY ARE WORT ~2000$
Not sure why you hide your speakers in bags, kid, but I did not watch your clip. Did you explain why?
85000 is more than recording studio speakers
Studio refence speakers are simply meant to sound neutral, so when you add bass, midrange or highs they are required, not a side effect of the speakers ability to reproduce sound accurately. These things are just BS, pure and simple...
😲🙄 why cover up
Break em in. No sense checking for quality of sound as you're working them in. He explains it at end of video.
If you want to see how expensive, heavy, large speakers should be handled just watch these guys !

"Sonus Faber" translated strictly means "rich sucker"... loosely translated it means "pucker up"...
In what language?
You get what u pay for
Buying $85,000 column speakers with double set of speaker terminals, wiring them in mono-amp instead of bi-amp.
*FACEPALM*
We bi-wired them on Demo night.
A single left and right amplifier channel output carries 20hz to 20khz, with a single cable to the
Crossover input.
Not using an amp per speakerunit with a stabilized PSU and phase coherent filtering. This is just so sad.
Almost can get a BMW m3 at that price
Well in my opinion this is a more solid investment than the M3, you know why? at least these speakers don't break down as easily as the M3 and cost a lot less to run. And if you've taken the cost of traffic fines in consideration these Il Cremonese is super, super cheap and they won't kill you even though they drops on you in an accident. The M3 will. Just my two cents.

A fool and his money are soon departed
Next time, try to pronounce the brand and model properly. And hold the camera still.
A pair of Morel supremo Will sound better.
$85K for a wooden box and a passive magnet.
The fool and his money..
Those speaker grills are hideous.
poor things, set up 5ft apart in a showroom space with coiled up speaker cables...
Hey kids, in the Big Time speaker world 85k is near the bottom floor... :)
So Morris, what does your listening room consist of?
What’s a Dimo?? Ha ha
Speaker socks.... Huh, 85k oh hell no.
They sound almost as good as my AirPods, without socks.
Was soll nur der billige Lammetter Fummel vor den Lautsprechermembranen? Ohne sieht viel schöner aus.
Who s so fool ?
The speaker is so light , one person can easily position it . Then it’s only worth $85.
One person can position a 200kg speaker depending on the situation
Can afford $85k speakers, but using a $20 camera to film the unboxing.
That music sucks assholes.
Ten grand? Take a look at hypex dot nl. Class d that’s almost unbeatable. With dsp to iron out the wrinkles in reproduction.
The background music during the unpacking and setting up was monotonous and annoying.
My $800 Kilpsch sounds a lot better.
