Instead of buying this system, I decided it's better to use my money to call up the artists and bands directly and pay them to play for me live in my home or backyard.
In 1972 I bought my first and only stereo system. The Pioneer sx-727 receiver and KLH 6 speakers still work fine. Dual turntable, Teac A-360 cassette player, and Koss headphones have bit the dust. Cost about $780.00. His system is better in every way. Love to hear it.
This system is above what the artists produce !Amaizing ! Is 50% more realistic what the instruments and musician's produce in real life here in this room !Respect from Romania !
I wish they would play more complex music. Two instruments or a vocal and a guitar sounds great on a lot of systems. Show the system off with a orchestra or a brass band or a rock band.
they do it on purpose to let the sound 'breathe'..there's also less chance of transients and reflections showing up the errors in the room....because: marketing.
"reflections showing up the errors in the room" i was really thinking at the same issue. I have Always had the feeling that to get a really great soundstage using omnidirectional speakers is a challenge. Actually i tend to lean towards very directional speakers. Very small sweet spot but also much less reflections to cope with. Maybe i am completely wrong in this approach. I do not know.
Allots of people are jealous to see this incredible sound system, they make some stupid remarks. This guy builds incredible reel to reel tape decks. If you are un audiophile this hobby is your passion, and you can afforded, why not to have something like this. Some people expends way more money on private jets and boats.
Despite the fact that this system is for very few, clearly has amazing dynamics and separation. I been invited to a room like this, and I can say is marvelous to listen to...
These guys are sooo interesting and seem to have boundless unconstrained enthusiasm for their hobby. I be they spend more time looking at this stuff and talking about it, than playing it
Plus the older you are, the less dynamic range you're going to hear. Even if I had untold wealth, I reckon £20,000 would be nearer my budget requirement for a top sounding system.
this was by far the best sounding system displayed on UA-cam. Normally when folks are showing off their speakers, I sit here and say really. what are you thinking. the first time I played this was on my 65in LED TV. I was blow away. She was singing to me. I can't wait to find the LP. Thanks for the display.
Man they don't make music lovers like they used to! I hope the current and future generations can have a revival and fall back in love with true music.
There's more creativity now than there ever was. Artists are pushing boundaries so called purists can't even understand. Thank fake dichotomy of true vs fake music is the dumbest thing ever. There's a finite amount of sou des you can achieve with an instrument but an infinite amount of sound with any of the DAW's on the market. Some of the most creative, genre bending and innovative music I've ever heard was created in the last 10 years. My first love was Pink Floyd, then Hendrix and Zeppelin and I still vibe to those but the richness and complexity of artists like Nils Frahm, Shlomo, Amon Tobin, etc blows that away.
It's not the amount of $ a system costs that makes it great! Being able to put a system together for a fraction of the price while getting the same sound to me makes it better!!
Listened to many mlb recordings on you tube through NS-1000 and MX1000U amp. Very detailed and accurate. I think these speakers are worth al least a listen. Would like to hear these in person.
think about this.... Sound ONLY exists in our mind. Without a brain there to interpret, it's just vibrating air. Now if these beautiful devices can help someone BELIEVE sound is improved in some way than in their mind it 100% does. There is NO question. Can these room enhancements survive scientific enquiry? Seems unlikely, but that isn't the point now is it? I love the idea of EVERYTHING in this room. I love the cables being suspended above the floor. I ignore the regular romex in the wall and the ordinary power transformer outside. The tape machine machine enhancements are superb. The giant price tag can also add value to the sound inside the human mind. It is beautiful. The human mind is capable of AMAZING things and audiophile gear is a wonderful expression of that.
These men are totally mad but so what. It's art and if they adore music, which I think they do, then fine. At this level it is like appreciating a Veronese painting etc. My system is basic but I bought the best I could and it gives me huge pleasure. I suspect most of us haven't heard real hi-fi. Very sad generations growing up on mp3 and headphones. A dad passed on the love of hi-fi to his son. I think that's magical. I remember the first time I heard a decent system as a kid. Anyway thanks for this video. I would do anything to hear a few of my favourites on the system.

damn...when listening to this. i'm closing my eye and listen to every fine detail of the instrument sound...this setup sound is so detail and clear...that is very astonishing..nice one...i love to hear it in person...
You have to factor in that any change to the elevation of the middle shelf of that wood thing would require those Shun Mook Mpingo pucks to be retuned by Bill Ying himself.....that's gonna cost you $$$.
Very nice to see the "tone" controls on the playback decks. As someone listening to prerecorded tapes for over 60 years, these are absolutely necessary, as vintage tapes vary widely in equalization. True even for the same title, produced in different duplication batches.
If you can't hear beyond 2k you are very very old or you have very serious hearing problems. As helloboom says if you have healthy hearing they can hear to at least 20k and probably way way beyond.
I neglected to comment on the imaging of loudspeakers which appears phenomenal in this video and I'm pretty sure it's even better and stunning when you are sat in front of these marvels. The instruments appear palpable, vibrating in the room, the image is tangible. It's astonishing! I see that the tweeter and midrange, practically vibrate from the same point. That's probably crucial.(If only these harsh brass instrument peaks were absent! Perhaps they need a beefier amp.)
God would I love to listen to Dark Side of the Moon on this system. Imagine the travel section (On The Run, track 3) with all the sound effects panning left to right and back.... damn!!
The trouble is with DSOTM is that the songs are too simple..It's studio effects album..good as it is, but the actual material is very, very simple..Also i tend to find that the vocals are quite sibilant on most tracks, or in different sections of the songs..I have the album on various pressings and CD's from the original 1973 Harvest to Doug Sax remasters and they all the sibilance to a greater or lesser extent.
You’re crazy. DSOTM is quite possibly the greatest album ever made. If you don’t get it your opinions on music and high end stereo equipment is completely irrelevant. There’s no other album with the depth, richness, and quality of DSOTM.
simon lloyd are you sure it is sibilance you can hear? I can hear reverb, echo, and decay but not sibilance. The extensive use of echo to create the effect of a much larger recording area is very obvious, and to some degree is making the vocals a little muddy. Is there one particular track you can hear it on more than others? The use of multiple overlays also makes it extremely hard to pick up.
This is the craziest looking speakers I ever saw playing the craziest music I ever heard. At least nothing sounds overly bright or overly deep. Quite perfect sounding. Wish I had a million dollars (but I still wouldn't spend it on all this). ☺️

It is like those ads about high end tv set shown on my super cheap crt philips 14 inch tv! I listen to this gorgeous system through my cheap one speaker laptop!
What are the sources of the tapes themselves? Who makes these tapes and what do they use to make them? Are they all used from back when analog reel-to-reel tape was the state of the art source?
Weirdest looking speaker I ever saw but sound pretty good. Maybe it was the recording but the vocals were uninspiring and way over played by the treble.
You CAN hear how good it sounds, if you use some reference headphones and a decent dac. It's not going to sound as good as being there but you can get an idea.
@@ColAngus It's not going to sound as good as being there nor is it going to sound as good as listening to the original track straight from your laptop. whatever you hear in this video has more to do with mic placement and sound editing of the video than to how the system really sounds.
I actually enjoy these videos, and seeing what super high end audio has to offer. I will stick with my setup though, unless something magic happens to my budget.
I have heard Super Audio CD, and that was a whole other experience for me in comparison to common CD sound. As to classical music it felt like being in a real concert hall. Or listening to Celine Dion .... it feels like she is singing right in front of you and her voice was so clean and clear. I wonder how SACD compares to this 1,000,000 Dollar system.
Not exactly true . A real studio uses many monitor pairs and the final master is made on very expansive speakers .. But yes some tiny studio are doing that ..no wonder that so many songs sound really bad
@Matt man NS10s are used to make sure it doesn't sound bad on crap speakers. It's not used to judge the overall recording quality. Most studios will use two or three or four pairs, of increasing size and cost. They switch back and forth to create the compromise they feel is best for the target audience of that music.
Thanks so much for the video. I think MBL is state of the art, hand built in Germany by happy folks -- you can't beat that --- so I hope they keep selling them! For those who want this kind of sound in the home... yes it can be done DiY with dynamic all paper speakers and horns. For those who commented on how it's even possible to gain an impression of quality via UA-cam... Yes it's possible and not too hard with some practice -- that's how mastering artists do it in the first place -- using reproducers of a known standard (ie Yamaha NS-10's, headphones or whatever). It's much better to post UA-cam videos made with better quality condenser mics, XY, or Side/Front setups (aka Zoom HD6). Built in camera mics are often not so hot. Very nice sounding transients on the MBL's -- but they come across a little harsh at some freq points -- maybe?. I have heard plenty of 3 way horn systems at 1/10th the cost that would keep up fine with these... using vintage components that are about as clean and speedy, and smoother with even more detail. But they are not Omni, and not NEW -- so hey!
I am willing to bet my pet (it has ultra high hearing capabilities, great for reviewing ultra-tweeters) that measurements taken in front and behind the 'sonic barrier' would be identical.

Wow, impressive sound through UA-cam encoder and my 10$ headphone. I'm shocked! :))
Holly molly.. sounds awesome..every inch of the instrument are so much detailed and the vocal person feel like inside the room standing 👍..
Not sure if those shun mook bits of wood make any difference but awesome setup nonetheless
Cyba IT same for me... it’s an impressive system but he lost me a bit with the whole Shun Mook Mpingo talk.
I am willing to bet my pet (it has ultra high hearing capabilities, great for reviewing ultra-tweeters) that measurements taken in front and behind the 'sonic barrier' would be identical.
los felicito un gran abrazo desde Caracas lo que me gusta tus entrevistas esque después haces escuchar los equipos que calidad siempre te sigo nuevamente te felicito
I want to listen to Benny Hill theme on this setup :D
I'm listening to this with my $14,000.00 Headphone system but only using my modified V-Moda's M-100's and your system sounds amazing. Great job putting it together. AMAZING
Awesome system! Where can I find more info about the "Room Correctors"? I am talking about the wood sticks with the circles in groups of three....
ELPLAK google Shun Mook. It comes right up
They do nothing other than lift $ from your wallet.
awesome extremely Exquisite sound, but in a nice Chardonnay glass filled with music... very much an awesome system sir..
As close to a live sound that I believe I have ever heard from a recording of a system. WOW!
John Karras how can you tell without being there.
GOOOD QUESTION
@@Rialas Ahahah that's true
Amazingly clean and realistic. Beautiful sound.
I guess a system like this would only be suited to a dedicated room. Nice sound, but I would say impractical for most people.
Andrew C No shit
Delighted to see and hear such a system. Thank you
20:16 start listening.
Sounds just like my cell phone...
r/whoosh
Lol Richard
@@timgraysontv pissing myself lol!
Wow!!! $ 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 sound in my ears...
Just when I thought my Cerwin Vega and 1800 watt JBL's were top notch I see this. Wow! I need that lottery winning!
cerwin vega are far from high end. beginners speakers
1800w ? O.o
pmpo?
Psy Active My mistake ya-all my Mackie HD1531 are 1800 watt and I also have a couple of JBL EON615's @ 1000 watts I sometimes play small outdoor gigs that need the push. I would die for the system in this video for I would probably hear things in music that I have never heard before. Win that lotto!
Pfff beginners speakers!! Give me a couple of CV Earth Quakes! Ok so not "high" end but to my mind nothing moves air like an old Earthquake! Even the jnrs were sweet. I had whole CV system in my car back in early 90s , those CS18s and dual voice coil 12 kicked ass😀 sadly Cerwin Vega a shadow of their former selfes 😟
post video of your system
What ever the argument may happen, to be... this system sounds incredible!!! Crystalline Beauty! Nice pipe dream...for me.
good news for owners of these tape decks: Analogue Productions is now selling tapes along with The Tape Project. same price $450/each
and AP says it's tapes are second generation TP are third
That is great news as soon as I sell my diamond mine I will buy some.
I knew a guy whose store was in a house. The living room and bedrooms were all different showrooms, and the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen held all the different cables he sold.
For 11 thousand dollars you'd think the deck would come with a remote
Too expensive🙄🤔
I have buyers remorse for this man.
Great, obviously sounds amazing giving the type of music. Now lets blast some AC/DC or Metallica through it!
Can someone explain the sound barrier thing?
