SUTAN with Traditional Hair | 2year-old's life in Japan

- 2 years old Japanese girl, Sutan's Shichi-Go-San is coming up in a month! Shichi-Go-San is a Traditional Japanese ceremony that celebrate the growth of children when they're 3, 5, 7 years old. Most people go to a hair salon to have their hair done and dressed kimono, take pictures at a photo studio, visit a shrine, and have a celebratory meal with their family. A mother tying her daughter's hair in a traditional style may be rare in modern Japanese family but I used to wear this hairstyle every day when I was a Maiko, junior geisha, so if I have a daughter someday, I have always wanted to do her hair and kimono for the Shichi-Go-San.
Sutan is also looking forward to wearing the kimono and having family gatherings. Anyway, this is my first time to do someone's hair, so today is just a practice.

My parents would snap on the first time I didn't follow their instructions, making me so scared all the time. But you handle it so beautifully. She is a kid acting like a kid, and some parents have zero patience with them, and expect the kid to act like an adult.

Sutan is so cute and you can tell she's trying her mom's patience. Moe san seems like such a good mom! I'd be so annoyed having to do a kid's hair when they're smearing hair gel or wax or whatever sticky paste on their face and won't face straight. Moe san did such a good job.

Since it is Sutan's Shichigo, I would go with the Wisteria because the color is subtle but it shows that you are celebrating and respecting her. The gray is elegant but may not look well if Sutan's kimono is so brigh that the grey stands out more. Best of luck to Sutan and her family, Moe and Moto.

I'm planning to do our first Shichi-Go-San this year with my daughter who is 3. She is half Puerto rican-quarter chinese-quarter American. But my husband was born and raised in Japan for 12 years, so I am trying my best to celebrate all the various cultures in the holidays. This video is a lifesaver for me right now. Thank you!!!
It’s so great that you are continuing your Japanese traditions with your daughter. Now a days people tend to stray away from their family traditions, but I’m glad you are truly raising your daughter to embrace her Japanese roots and live her culture fully as it has been done for many years.
It definitely took a lot of patience, with Sutan constantly moving. But you nailed it.
This made me happy cry. I truly can't get enough of you two. You just remind me so much of my mother and I when I was a little kid. You're an amazing, amazing mom just like she is. Mom would lovingly do my hair and when we wore our traditional clothes she would always try to make sure my outfit was more "eye catching" than hers.
You have me reminiscing now haha. I think I will wear a traditional outfit with her on Sunday when we're free! This time I will do her hair and makeup.
What can you say about the pure, unadulterated, unending love of a mother? It's unmatched by any other.

The characteristic hairstyle of sumo wrestlers is called 大銀杏（o-ichou）, which is different from 日本髪（nihongami）that Sutan does.
