In 1991 I was 6 years old, I'd drug my dads custom Telecaster across the concrete basement floor and halfway up the steps. I was sitting there plucking at it when dad found me. He didn't get mad, just picked us both up and carried us into the living room and spent time showing me what it really was and why I needed to be more careful with it. It's nearly 30 years later and I still have that Telecaster with gouges on the back from when some idiot kid drug it across the basement floor.
My grandma’s house burned down in 2019, inside was my grandpa’s 1963 Gibson, he passed away in 2012 and I loved him so it made me sad to lose him, the government offered to reimburse my grandma for several things in the house one of which was up to $2000 we could spend on a guitar, she offered me the money since I was the only guitarist in the family, I bought a 2019 butterscotch fender tele american professional, which looks a lot like your tele actually minus all the dings, I like to imagine the spirit of my grandpa’s 1963 guitar is in my tele and it always reminds me of him when I play for a long time or play songs from that era
Great story! I'm glad you bought a guitar you loved, and have memories to remember when playing it. Don't listen to Kian, what you bought was your choice and no one else's.
When i was about 11 my dad wanted to buy me a BC Rich Ironbird for christmas. It was from some pawn shop or something like that and my dad waited until christmas eve for whatever reason to go buy it. This particular christmas eve there was a huge snowstorm and when he got to the shop, it was already too late and he had been closed. So he called the guy and out of the goodness of this guys heart he left his family on christmas eve to drive through a snowstorm for 45 mins to come down to his shop and open up JUST to sell my dad that guitar to make sure I had it in time for christmas. I still have it today.
I’m 11 and I take lessons at guitar center and there was this one Jackson guitar it was in my favorite color, purple and I loved it so much so I had to go to a recital and it was at guitar center. So I played on that guitar and after the recital my mom said,”Ok go get your guitar”. Then I said to her that I didn’t bring a guitar and my parents were just saying yeah we bought that guitar for it’s yours. So I asked the boss and she said yes. Then my parents said we got you this because your doing really good in school and your really passionate about playing the guitar and that is really my first favorite guitar
Never sell it, you’ll want it when you’re old! You'll always remember your parents getting it for you, and feel closer to them whenever you play. There are few tangible things that you will keep through your whole life but that can be one.
Oh hey, someone my age, also taking guitar lessons I use a fender squire, modeled afer a strat,i mostly play metal/heavy metal My guitar has band stickers on it
my number one....she's so special. I was at work, I work with kids, and I took my client to his school carnival fundraiser. I didn't know there was a silent auction but when I walked in...there she was, right in front. A Teton PRS knock-off, beautifully crafted....dusted but never played. the sheet had no bids on it and I decided I put my last 40 bucks down with the hopes that everyone would feel bad for my broke self and stay away..... fate was with me that day and nobody bid on this beautiful guitar, 40 bucks later and she is my ride or die guitar. dual humbucker, spalted maple top, mahogany body and neck.....and she plays like a dream.
@@cavemanissy1143 I think its better if you save up for a 300$ - 400$ Epiphone . I Recommend the Epiphone LP Studio EB and the Epiphone LP Standard. ESP LTD's, Jackson's and Ibanez LPs are also good choices.
My #1 is a right handed converted to left handed mexican Stratocaster, used to be my grandfathers but he was a righty and I'm a lefty so when i inhereted it i hendrixed it
For many years, I was regularly phoning all of the music stores in my probince for a used Gibson SG, because I could not afford a new one. In approximately 1996, I recieved a phone call from a small mom and pop music shop in my own town. When I went down there, the owner showed me a brand new SG Standard. I said he misunderstood my request and there was no way I could afford a new guitar. I took it for a test spin anyways. When I finished, he said “try this one out,” and he handed me a 1972 Gibson SG Standard in classic cherry red. I got a crazy deal, and I still play the shit out of it!
My guitar teacher never taught me anything just took my money and told me stories for half the lessons time , I took lessons with him for about 2 or 3 years and I never even knew what a scale was, lol all true, he was a big shot in a local band , he played great and had a great ear, he only played one guitar and that was a Gibson Les Paul Custom, he told me to stay away from Fenders, but I always wanted a Tele bc Bruce played one and Joe Strummer and I love the bright chimes of The Pretenders . but nope I never got one bc that Teacher said Les Pauls are the best . Now i'm a lot older than you lol i took those lessons in around 1983-4-5ish and after all those years of not really playing much I finally bought a cheap MIM 2006 Telecaster which i think was either made on a Monday or a Friday bc the neck was amazing to play and has a ton of Tiger Flame in it, you don't see that on MIMs . five or six years later I got a USA 1996 Black Telecaster with a rosewood neck I was going for the Joe Strummer look, I some light relicing to it and some stickers and it kind of has that Joe Strummer look it plays ok but not nearly as easily as the cheaper MIM Tele with the Maple Tiger flame neck, during all this time i found a guy that gave me some proper lessons and once i finally learned the Minor pentatonic scale and that was amazing . also good lessons on YT I play good enough now to be able to hang in a jam session with other local nucklheads so it's fun, I do it for fun. I'm feeling i'm rambling so I will stop now, I loved your story thanks for sharing and Peace !
Hey, I'm just a youngin talking to someone double my age, butI still want to share my perspective. my journey with music has always been highly autodidactic. I started with a book and a crusty spanish guitar, and like three lessons from a family friend and amazing guitarist. I learned the technique quite nicely and practiced a lot, but to this day I can't play an entire song. With the years I've found out that I prefer doing my own stuff and expressing myself, which is what I already did when I improvised for hours instead of practicing Deep Purple and AC/DC. That philosophy towards music making turns jamming and having fun with music into the best possible practice method. I still can't play Highway to Hell, but I'm making music noone else in the world could, maybe. I'm making music that matters to me. What I'm trying to say is, just play and have fun, you're expressing yourself and that's what music is all about. It's an endless journey. To be fair I knew the pentatonics, minor, dorian and even blues scales almost since the beginning. Also I spent like 5 years making dubstep in my late teens before diving into ambient music, so I'm more of a synth guy nowadays. But it all started with 3-hour long solos on my guitar, and I still play that poor chinese-made budget Strat often.
My #1 guitar is the only one i have, lol. It's an old brazillian brand, entry level strat with rosewood board, no idea what the body is made of. The thing is, that guitar is at least 25 years old and has never been upgraded, so you bet the tuning machines and the bridge are terrible, worn out frets, but the pickups sound so great! My dream is to save enough to replace the bad parts so I can keep this baby with me forever. After all, I learned to play everything on her :)
Changed everything on a Finch Les Paul from the mid/late 70s - even the neck plate and screws. Plays brilliantly - incredibly heavy and with exceptional, aged mahogany & rosewood neck. Believe it or not, plays better than my Suhr.
My number 1 is also a Fender reissue: a Fender 1962 American Vintage reissue Jazzmaster. I was working in a music store and had fallen in love with it. I was getting more paid gigs at that time but was partying more as a result. Got drunk one too many times and slept past my alarm one morning, I had been working there for 3 years and that was the straw that broke the camel's back, I got fired for the first time in my life. Fast forward a year and a few small jobs later I found myself playing abroad for the first time in a seven piece party band. In Morocco, of all places. I still had that guitar in mind and managed to pay off all my debts and stack a few bucks with the salary since this was an all expanses paid gig in a hotel. So, just around Christmas, I asked an old coworker that still worked at the store if the guitar was still in inventory. It was. So I wired him money to buy it for me with employee discount. Had my room mate go pick it up and it was waiting for me when I got home. I'll never forget the smell when I opened that case for the first time. Mine is also pretty beat up and with parts upgrades: I have the Mastery Bridge and the Mastery vibrato. 10 years later I now live in China and support my new family with that same instrument and have been sober for two years.
"I wanted a tele because I wanted to be different" is the same reason I got my own. Thing is though, a good number of my guitarist friends own a Tele, so I got a Fender Modern Player Thinline model to stand out a little bit more. Was skeptical at first as it was a Fender made in China, but I love it so so much, it never fights with my playing and the MP90s add sooo much to the Tele tone! And the charcoal black finish just makes it one of the prettiest guitars I've ever played.
The story of my “baby” is sad. I had a cheap first act guitar that my mom bought me. And I loved. But my dad said if I joined the youth group band he’d buy me a guitar that I wanted. I found the the perfect guitar for me. The Luna Apollo purple electric. I f’D my fingers up on this beauty. But when I was living in Alaska what I thought was a bear sniffing in my basement window made me jump back and break the neck of my purple beauty. Rip my sweet. Keep rockin on!
Honestly that sounds that a problem a good luthier could fix. I'm assuming its a bolt on neck. Obviously its probably going to cost more than a new one so its more how much the stories are worth to you
Funny thing is everyone I know has a tele and I now see that as the overused guitar xD I have a fender Stratocaster and I feel unique, funny how things work later on.
Cat thomas it kinda depends on where you live and who you know, all my friends have strats, I’m the only one with an sg, but I’m pretty chill about all guitars, except flying Vs, they are wack man.
In my town, everyone has a Tele or a Strat, because my local guitar store is basically Fenderland. It's a great place but they need to diversify. I play Les Pauls and SGs with Orange Amps. I'm one of the only guys in my town that plays Les Pauls.
Love the story. I love that your father was such a big part of it. Now I want a tele :D My first and only guitar for now is an Ibanez GRG270b from 2007. I was saving for an axe for months and I got to 150€. I was going to buy a much cheaper guitar, but when choosing in the shop I fell in love with this one. My mother said 'are you sure you want it' and said she'd cover the rest.
I played guitar when i was 7-9ish, in 2011 and stopped for some reason. Some weeks ago i bought my first acoustic-electric and i couldnt be happier as it was a few days arfter my birthday. My gran couldnt afford cash and got a loan. Its an entry-level cort and i will never forget it. It is a truely amazing guitar that will be forever attached to my soul, thanks gran
My number one axe is an acoustic guitar I found on the side of a road. It’s the only guitar I could afford (free) but I’ve been saving up for a Stratocaster just like my dad’s!
I play bass, i have used an Ibanez GSR-200, only $200 btw. Plays great for me and meets pretty much everything i want out of it. I really like this video because it shows your favorite things dont have to be your most expensive or known :)
That model is a killer one. I also have one, had it for close to 9 years now, I actually bought and later sold a 62 reissue Fender Jazz bass, because the GSR was just a better instrument, despite being a fraction of the price.
I’ve got a Gibson Les Paul. I’ve got a few RG’s. I’ve got a JP 15 that I saved up 2 1/2 years worth of Pizza Hut paychecks to get. But nothing beats my Squier Strat. Got it for $30 when I was a kid from my neighbor. The thing weighs a million pounds. The lacquer on the neck is completely worn off. I’ve managed to run down to bare wood where my arm rests on the body and it has so many “this will be so cool” modifications from when I was a teenager that I can no longer count. But by god is it the best playing and sounding guitar in the planet. No one can change my mind about it :)
I've got a Gibson lesPaul studio, and an SG, but I also love playing my squier strat more than the others. Its change a lot since I got it. It's got fender locking keys, Tusq nut, a weird looking pick guard and a Seymour Duncan dimebucker on the bridge. But it's still my first guitar and I'll have it until the day I die
Excuse me sir, has anyone spoken to you about purchasing the rights to this story yet??? I'm from Universal Pictures and we would love to make this into a movie
Ever since I started watching you, you have been a big influence on me in terms of playing guitar. I recently got the chance to get my very first guitar, and remembering you I choose a squire Telecaster because of you and the other legendary guitarists I look up to. Also I understand what you mean by you want to be different by getting a Telecaster, alot of my musically inclined friends play Strats or Les Pauls so that kinda also influenced me to choose a Tele so I could be the one that stands out. Thanks Samurai Guitarist for inspiring me to pick up guitar and to be a better musician in my everyday life.
I agree with you. Sammy G is quite inspirational. He teaches me something almost every day, and he's never even met me. And I'm actually OLDER than him....but I look up to him. He's also Canadian...and I love ALL things Canadian...but that's a story for another day....
My #1 guitar is a Squier Bullet Stratocaster that I bought after my Gibson acoustic guitar was stolen. I have since switched from being a Gibson fan to being a Fender/Squier fan.
My #1 guitar is my Takemine G-Series Acoustic Guitar. I've had it for over nine years now, and it was earned by mowing a countless number of lawns when I was 10. The TK-40 pickups still sound amazing, and even though I've added a number of guitars to my collection since then, this guitar is still my go to for all gigs.
I'm with you on that. My Santa Fe Dreadnought from '94 that is the acoustic I've always stuck with. I own my share of electrics but there is something great about what Takemine does with acoustics.
My number 1 axe is a cheap P bass copy that my brother gave me. I started playing on this and I bought a Ltd bass (that I also love). After a year or so I figured I would make something decent out of this thing. I changed pretty much everything, I learned soldering to do everything myself. I absolutely love the result, it's not a Fender but it sounds and feels so good and it's unique
Loved your story and how your savvy dad helped with tweaking it to make it your own. My #1 first real guitar is a fender american special hss. I loved everything about it and kept everything stock.
My number 1 is a walnut American Special Stratocaster. 2 years ago my son, who was 9 at the time, picked it up and started playing around with it. I showed him a few chords and let him go. He only played it for about 10 minutes before his fingers started hurting. But he picked it up again the next day. Two weeks later I put him in lessons, he’s still going to lessons and playing to this day. He said the colour of the guitar reminded him of chocolate, so he named the strat Hershey. I bought him a blue Ibanez SA160 about 4 months into lessons, but he still goes for Hershey every time. That’s my number 1. Er, ok, maybe it’s his number 1 now.
Well I only have one guitar.. but it’s pretty cool, it’s a Hofner Hi-Fi 4579 and it’s from the 60‘s or 70‘s. It does sound old (not in a particularly good way) but it’s unique and I love it
Your tele makes me feel like how I’m going to feel about my sg soon because my story is insanely similar I got a shitty guitar when I started and I decided to buy myself an epiphone sg that I had to fix up and I love it so much
a fender acoustic , i saved up birthday, and Christmas money and painfully long hours working at my local convenience shop to buy it from Rimmers it’s not much but it’s mine and i paid for it which gives me a sense of pride
My #1 guitar is a fairly new one, a 2017 Gibson Les Paul Tribute. I managed to flip a MIM strat for an American one that I was pretty happy with, and I didn't really have anything with humbuckers, so I figured that'd be the way to go next since I had single-coils covered. Unfortunately, when I went to the store, pretty much every bucker-equipped guitar I played was a disappointment. Either the neck wasn't right or the pickups sounded nothing like what I wanted, something was always off. I had pretty much ignored the Gibsons given how many issues they have nowadays, but I always liked goldtops and it was the only one in the store, so I figured why not and tried it out. The neck felt great, and as soon as I plugged it in I was sold. It sounded different even from the other Les Pauls I tried out, but the instant I plugged it in, there was the sound I had in my head. I gave myself a week to think it over, a week later I bought it, and it's been my absolute favorite ever since. Plays better than any other guitar I own, and again, the tone is what I'd been hearing in my head and trying to get out of a strat for years and years. Gibson's quality control is a mess and they make a lot of bad guitars, but when they get it right, they hit it out of the park.
ZF12 i have a 2014 lpj pro. Basically a studio with coil splits. Ill never get rid of it. Plays like a dream, and ive cosmetically modified it to look like a standard les paul. You could only tell the difference if you pick it up.
That story will always stick with me as I had just picked up guitar a good 4 months ago and my first guitar had come from my friend. Not sure what kind of guitar it is other than the brand first act written on it. It has several dings and scratches but I cherish this guitar like it was a family member. As soon as I get the money I plan to fix it up and keep it as an heirloom.
My number one guitar is also a Tele. It means so much to me because my grandma bought it for me for no other reason other than she thought I would like it. It’s a 2002 made in Mexico in that deep redish wine color. I’ve since hot rodded it. I completely rewired it, swapped out the pickups a few times. Currently has a Fralin Blues Special in the bridge and a Duncan Hot For Tele In the neck. I swapped out the frets for jumbos as well. I also had Charlie Mcvay put a g bender in for me. That guitar has been with me for almost 20 years, and thousands of hours on stage. I honestly don’t think there’s a price that could be put on her.
You tell a great story . I'm going to sub now and I haven't even heard you play yet but I have a good feeling . I've been playing 55 years and love it as a favorite hobby . Started back in the early Bob Dylan days so started finger picking . After 25 years I bought a strat and blues deluxe in the 90s . Recently treated myself to a TV yellow LP special '55 reissue with P90s . Still having fun at 70 . Look forward to more of your videos
I got a strat that was my dads backup for guitar years a bday gift. Since then I put a humbucker in the bridge to sound more punk. It’s a sun burst with a black pick guard from putting in the humbucker giving it a unique look.
My favorite guitar is a weird one. It looks to have been put together at home by a previous owner. I bought it about two summers ago from my local music store. I saw it and instantly picked it up. Scott, the store owner, asked $100 bucks and I went home to get it. It has a Les Paul knock off body. Standard threeway pickup selector and another one between the volume and tons knobs that seems to boost the volume and give a little edgier tone. It's black and the neck seemed to have once been red but it was painted over black. The headstock looks like a wedge of cheese 😂 I love it. I run it though a big muff and out an all tube crate and and it sounds great! Not the fanicest stuff but it does the job and most importantly I love it!
I’ve loved music all my life and my dad was a musician, so back in like 5th grade he was teaching my how to play guitar, I stopped for a while after that. I’m a sophomore in high schools now and I’ve been playing again for a bit longer than a year with my Ibanez me and my dad found in a pawn shop, I hope to one day actually buy a tele ( because the boss is one of if not my favorite musician besides my dad) and make music just like my dad.
Hey, I just found your channel via Paul David's video that you shared! My first electric guitar was (I still have it) a hand built strat made in York England (my home town). It was old when I got it and I have had it reconditioned and fixed by London's Stairway to Kevin (a Denmark St institution in the UK guitar scene). I have a load of other guitars, but always revert to the strat for comfort. Love the video and great work on the channel!
My parents put me in lessons when i was really young playing an acoustic Ibanez which i never learned to play and some years later i picked up my dads Takamine ESF-40C and ive been playing it nearly everyday for about a year now
Mine was my dads 30th anniversary 62' reissue strat, the tone, the finish, the looks, how it plays, how it feels, it's just irreplaceable. He ended up giving it to me because after his college years he wouldn't play it that often, and i was getting better at guitar. I wouldn't sell that guitar even if worst came to worst.
Even though I own 2 actual fender stratocasters (a 70s reissue and a roadhouse deluxe) my go to is a squier vintage modified, swapped out the bridge for a fender made one and the bridge pickup for a SD little 59, it's a beast
My number one axe, and so far my only axe, is my Ibanez Blazer Bass in the Traditional Violin finish. It’s a solid body bass made of ash with a one-piece maple neck, 34” scale. If you’re not familiar with the model, they’re basically Ibanez’ version of a P-bass. They have the same type of pickup, although it does have a slightly different sound, with clearar mids and a slightly muddier low-end, and it’s wired the same with 1 tone knob and 1 volume knob. Hardware is done in brass, which I think is really cool to go along with the black pickguard and the reddish-Brown Woodgrain finish on the body. My favorite part about this model is that it has a very unique headstock that kinda looks like a weird spearhead of sorts. Anyway, I got this bass from my uncle as a gift. It used to be his practice bass back in the day, and so he decided to give it to me a few months back when I showed interest in playing the instrument. I absolutely love it, as it’s a really unique looking instrument, and it sounds great. I’ve barely ever seen any others like it, and I haven’t found any modern basses that resemble it. It does need a little bit of work right now though, as the action is a bit too high right now, but it’s still very playable considering it’s been sitting in my grandparents attic for several years.
Ive owned six guitars throughout my life. I recently bought my first on my own and it was a tele too. They are great guitars. My tele and my strat are my favs.
my #1 axe would be my squier precision bass. though it has been modded to hell - countless refinishes with rlly thin coats that come off easily (and have worn away in the coolest fashion), a matching headstock w/ a 70s fender p bass decal and white pickup covers - it just plays better than anything i've ever experienced and just sounds amazing. 'tis all.
When I was first learning guitar, my friends told me "never get a Tele, they aren't cool". 30 years later, I built my own, and just finished it. AND I LOVE IT. Take that, haters...
I was listening to a playlist on Spotify and I heard Layla. Ever since then I’ve been obsessed with becoming the best guitarist I could. I bought a Mexican strat with the money I had saved up from working at a fast food restaurant. I named her Layla
You’ve got an awesome family! Very supportive! My favorite guitar has to be the very first one given to me from my wife for our second anniversary. It was a Fender Strat black with White pickguard, a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. I put it down for a number of years but decided to make it my own. It’s currently getting stained completely blue with black sunbursting finish. I’m going to make it an hsh style with a pearl white pickguard. Seymour Duncan pickups and Blue Steel strings. My wife has completely been supporting for it. In the mean time, she bought me a Les Paul Modern in faded Pelham blue.
Nice hearing the history of your Tele! My #1 guitar is a Warmoth Tele with Roasted Swamp Ash body and a 1 piece Roasted Quartersawn Maple neck loaded with Wilde Bill Lawrence Rail pickups (L45S and L45T.) My dad and I assembled it together, he never cared for Teles until we finished that build.
A lot of people here complain about not being able to buy a high-end guitar. My tip to you is to save a little every month,. Many smalll ponds makes a big lake. Also, you absolutely don’t need a high end guitar to be good.
Completely agree. Also a guitar doesn't have to be high end to be good. There are a lot of inexpensive axes out there that can be upgraded and tweeked to give you that same quality and sound you typically would pay thousands more for.
When I was in high school I could only lust after high end gear, I had lots of free time to practice and play with my band though. As an adult I have enough money to buy a PRS Private stock or an R9 and not feel too bad about it, but I am lucky to grab 30 minutes of play time a day; and forget about a band. Which problem would you rather have?
My tip is to always buy used and check the market every day. Some people need money quick and will let great guitars go for way less than they should to make sure they make a sale. I got a American tele for $650 and it's my main.
Okay so This is just me. Recently I bought an LTD MH-100QMNT. Best guitar I've owned (i have a cheap les Paul copy and a generic acoustic). The LTD goes for a little under 300 and I have to say I feel like it's a good guitar. No jack issues. No buzzing frets. No tuning problems. Maybe it's just the way my buddy set it up at the store where I bought it. But nevertheless I highly recommend it
My baby is my 1976 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop. It has the pancake body with the maple line down the side. My uncle gifted it to me when I started playing guitar again-took a long break because I was young and got bored of it. A few years go by, and I still play it every single day so I can one day be like him. He got it as a child and has had it ever since. It’s doesn’t have on the pick guard, a humbucker in the bridge, and the original half- humbucker in the neck. It also has cold cracks in the finish which bothered me for a while, but it grew on me. I also switched out the old nickel Grover tuners for new chrome Grover tuners(they didn’t have nickel ones). I still have the original tuners too and the original case as well.
I have a short attention span and rarely get thru to the end of videos, so you would be pleased to know I enjoyed yours right to the end! Cheers from Australia
Very cool! Picking my #1 guitar. I only half a half-dozen or so, and they each have a purpose... The Fender Blacktop Baritone Telecaster is my go-to these days, as my solo playing, and vocal register both benefit from the extra bottom end. My true go-to stringed instrument right now is my Ammo Can and Hockey Stick dulcimer or guitar-ish-thing. Tuned to G-D-gg, it's a ton of fun to play! Great video, as always! I love hearing about the attention to detail that guitarists have when it comes to their instruments and modifications. Cheers!
My favorite guitar is one that I traded for back in mid 60s. An old Aria acoustic,it was old when I got it but it sounds GREAT!! Wouldn't trade it for anything. Thanks for the great video 😎 😎
My number one is a Fairlane Blue Gretsch G5420T, dubbed ‘Elizabeth’. Here’s the story: I knew I wanted a Gretsch, because all my favorite guitar tones came from Gretsch’s, from Malcolm Young (my hero) to Brian Setzer to Billy Duffy. I knew that Gretsch was the right brand for me, so I went into my local music store, and lo and behold, sitting in the center podium was a G5420T, in Fairlane Blue. I asked the guy if he could pull it off to the side for me (I didn’t have enough coin at the time, but I was close), and he said that he couldn’t, so I went to work and started saving. Came back about a month later, and it was gone. He chuckled and said ‘I know true love when I see it, my man!’, and he went to the back and pulled it out for me. I was completely blown away! What I’ve done so far is taken off the pickguard, replaced the bridge pickup with a TV Jones Classic Plus and removed the neck pickup entirely. Feedback is a little bit of a problem now, but nothing more than what it was before. I love that thing and I plan to never sell it!
I know exactly what you mean. I had a man come into the pawnshop i work at with this exact model with this exact color. He was heartbroken having to pawn it for a bit but he needed the money. I told him not to worry that id take care of it like if it were my own. Sure enough he came back for it about a month later. I dont blame you or him, that color is to die for.
I have a scrapcaster its deffinently my fave. Its a blonde tele body, a strat neck with scalped frets, single coil neck pickup and hotrails in the bridge with a 5 way switch even though i prolly only need 4.
My favorite and one and only is a Steinberger Spirit travel guitar. It was a gift from my sibling. 24 frets, 2 humbuckers, and a single coil. I live on a sailboat so this travel guitar is perfect for the limited space.
5:38 xDDDD just those frickin' 2500$. My most expensive and of course favorite guitar is my gretsch Alligator which today goes for like 400 - 500$. I always dreamed of owning an instrument worth that much money as you do. Keep up the great work
My favorite guitar is also a telecaster, sort of. It's a Tele copy that my parents bought for my brother and has since become mine. It originally looked exactly like the guitar Nick Jonas used that fateful night at the acm awards - when "the rhythm section" ruined his career - so the blue sparkle finish had to go. It's not great, but it is my first guitar, so I love it anyway.
The original Broadcaster/Telecaster was wired that way prior to the invention of the bass guitar. That 3rd position was supposed to simulate a bass. The current (Bridge/Both/Rhythm) configuration was first introduced in 1967.
My number one is a tie between my tele and my strat. The tele is a 1990s US made Telecaster Plus. My father bought it somewhere around 92 (of course, this was years before I was born). It came with a single coil and a humbucker. My dad replaced the humbucker pickup with some sort of fancy fender humbucker and the same with the single coil. Now of course this was the 90s so compared to what could’ve been installed these days would probably work better, but for the sake of keeping it just like it was in the 90s we aren’t changing anything. Granted, my true belief is that this tele is my DADS guitar, but he keeps insisting that it is a shared instrument between the two of us. Now for my strat, I bought it about a year ago. Now, it is a Mexican Strat (to me it really means nothing) but this was the first guitar that I bought by myself. I opted for the HSS setup because after playing his tele with the humbucker I fell in love with humbucker style pickups. I also chose sunburst because my guitar idol used a strat in that color (John Frusciante). This strat plays absolutely beautifully (as most strats do) and I love how I can get an absolute plethora of sounds out of this thing. It can give me punchy tones all the way to clean bell tones. Fender instruments will always have a special place in my heart.
I only have one axe. It's an Ibanez Gio and it's pretty much exactly what I need as a beginner. I'm putting together a slotted acoustic soon. But anyway, good video
I had just bought a cheap sg and did a lot of upgrades to it. I changed out the stock pickups with humbuckers and changed the neck to a smother more relaxed feel and painted it black. And I painted the body a royal blue color just to make it special. You are a big inspiration for me and are one of the reasons I picked up guitar which was some odd 3 years ago. So I want to say thank you Sammy G
Mine is my 2004 Gibson SG, got it used for only 450 with mods on it, have it for about 3 years now. I’ve bought two more electrics since, but for some reason I always end going back to the SG as to me it feels and sounds the best against my reverend charger and 92 fender Tele. This SG will be with me forever.
Just getting into guitar too. I have an Ibanez Gio but black. my dad always complained it was a piece of crap so he gave it to me but i don't know the difference. i'm having a lot of fun with it
Hey man, Love the videos! My numner one guitar (as I have many) is actually a 1976 Royce Les Paul. Its an MIJ Les Paul like yours, I put Duncans in it, re fretted it, put a set of grovers on it and a new bridge. It plays and sounds really good. The story behind it is that a buddy of mine from kindergarten's dad played bass. He knew a few chords on guitar but after he got M.S. couldnt really play anymore. I had gone over to my buddies house cause he himself had learned a few chords and asked me to teach him some more. I had been playing guitar about 5 years at this point, I had a Peavy Raptor EXP Plus in cherry red. It was my first guitar. After teaching him for probably 15 mins we took a snack break, I walk into the living room to see if his dad wanted anything and he said no. I had seen the Les Paul over in the corner and went and picked it up. It had 3 strings that probably havent been changed since 1976 on it. I asked him about it, he had told me that it was his fathers (my buddies grandfather) and when he passed that was one of the things that they had brought back. It had sat ever since. They knew I was good at fixing things so they said that if I can fix it, I can have it. I said absolutely, I had gotten fixed that night in my room and re strung. Had it ever since, only replacing things as they break. I have other guitars that are higher end than the Royce, but its the story behind it that I love. Its got more sentimental value to me than any of the others. So its my go to! I have been playing almost 10 years now, and I still love it.
My favorite current guitar I own is a Schecter Damien Platinum 7, because I have always wanted a 7 string, and while I was planning on getting a hellraiser I tried this guitar in the store and just fell in love with it.
John Frusciante - says a guy using someone else's name. :). If you don't like the mods to my Tele you will probably hate that I put skull decals on the pick guard. :).
i was joking man, everybody's free to play like they want, i prefer the cleaner look of a vintage 60's custom tele, without contour, and for me it's the best thing ever
The 50's wiring, with the capped tone sound, was for jazz playing/mock bass tone, depending on who you ask. The four way switch puts the two pickups in series/parallel, I can't remember which position is which, but it's kind of like making it a humbucker when its in position one (front pickup). I adore telecasters and will listen to anyone and everyone talk about theirs. I have several of my own that are partscasters made to look and sound like 50's style tele's, and one fender custom shop 50's style. Keep playing and making videos, love this channel!
Just two weeks ago I bought a cherry red gretsch streamliner which is the first guitar I've ever bought after playing my dad's for three years. And I absolutely love it
My parents wouldn't even buy me a new guitar for my birthday even if I pay for most of it. They say all guitars are the same and that it shows no practicality in my life, but I'll prove them wrong. They'll see, everyone will see.
My #1 guitar is a crappy first act that was my older brother's first electric guitar, after he got a better guitar he stopped using it for a while, but one day he got the bright idea to put the pickups from the expensive guitar in the crappy one, and the crappy pickups in the expensive one, and the sold then expensive one, leaving a POS guitar with super good pickups in it, he over time painted it yellow and drew all over it, then when I got interested in playing guitar a few years ago it was passed down to me and I put a few sharpie drawings of my own on it. The thing looks like shit, hasn't had its strings changed in years, but damn if it doesn't sound pretty good.
Dude thats awesome i have a similar story my older brother tried playing guitar and my parents bought him a crappy first act too he eventually quit and years later i picked up guitar and got the idea just to replace everything in it (because it wasnt working, one of the wires looked like it had been cut i dunno) so i replaced the pickup, strings, bought a new volume knob, and tuners. A year later clyde is still my favorite guitari mean i only have 3 so there's not much to choose from
I have a 1/2 Mark II (First Act tried to make a "quality" off brand in the 2000's) that was supposed to be my brothers. He never actually learned and it was just a toy for him. 17 years later I picked it up and strung it in hopes I could learn something. The neck is the fretboard with a radius of zero, the built in amp doesnt do much with the one crap single coil, and some of the frets are curved to a radius while some are flat. All I can do is practice strumming. Getting a Indio for my birthday, and that'll probably be my baby.
My number one has to be my Fender Strat. I had saved up months and was in the market for a new guitar. Being a lefty, I had my eyes set on one of the new Gibson Sg 61s, and when the time came to get ready to drop down the money for it-Sweetwater had pulled it. I was crushed, and when talking with a friend/coworker he recommended a Strat. I spent the next week or so reading, and watching as much as I could. And when I saw it, I was in love. It was an Olympic White American Professional Strat. I ordered it, and after waiting the 24hrs opened that case, and put it into my hands. It just felt right. Much thanks to the guys who helped me at Sweetwater!
That can be decieving. Its high from the fretboard but it looks like fender jumbo frets so the strings will have to be a little higher to not buzz, but easier to push down on
My number one is my Squier Tele. I played a Hamer strat copy for years before deciding I wanted an upgrade. One day I was watching Queen's 1985 Live Aid set, and during Crazy Little Thing I saw Brian May and Freddie Mercury both playing Telecasters. They looked badass and after more Tele research I decided it would be "my" guitar of choice. Saved up for months and the second I had that money it went straight towards the order, and two weeks later I get home from school to a fat Squier box on my patio and tore the thing open in minutes. I'm still not the greatest at guitar by any means (I'm still a chord chunker, although nowhere near an acoustic guitar at a party type deal) but the thing plays like a beast, and it makes learning fun.
My number one axe is is my Player Series Telecaster, I got it a few days ago after I turned 16, I chose a Tele because all my hero’s play one Jeff Buckley, Ray Parker Jr, George Harrison, and Prince, I’ll probably save up and get a hot rod Seymour Duncan bridge pickup installed in it because that’s what Buckley had on his guitar and I love his warm and crunchy tone, I never thought I’d own a Fender but anything can happen when you have your mind set to it!
Can we take a second to acknowledge how much his dad has done for him. Absolutely legendary!

Qc?
Wish my dad did that much.
@@nehemiahzo_ I pressed F to pay respect
Nehemiah Zo Your comment makes me sad.
Johnny Bullseye cute story!
It's a tele, use it to hit baseballs and it'll still be in tune :D Battle scars add soul!
That’s great! My parents kinda just left me on my own to pay for mine.
Nehemiah Zo at age 12 i told my parents i wanted a guitar, they said “get a job” fuck that sucked but here i am 30 years later
dragged** not drugged
Jason Dill shoulda bought a SG
I also own the fender American pro, it’s such a nice guitar. Enjoy ur axe
That’s such a touching story mate!
Great story! I'm glad you bought a guitar you loved, and have memories to remember when playing it.
Don't listen to Kian, what you bought was your choice and no one else's.
Awesome little story there, thanks for sharing 👍🏻 rock on 🤘
When i was about 11 my dad wanted to buy me a BC Rich Ironbird for christmas.
That’s incredible. I hope you and your dad expressed great gratitude towards that generous man!
I'd have dropped a 50% tip on the guy if I could
Your teacher taught you to focus on All the Small Things.
Kyo Kayne I see what you did there lol
Yeah cuz japan
nice
You should buy an sg because you could say it stands for samurai guitarist
Damn, beat me to it hahahaha
I was thinking of that too
Wow good thinking
Hell yes!
Epiphone should give him a signature model.
Your Dad sounds like a lovely guy!
Han reality. Good man for sure. He seems like he could wire anything
Having a supportive family who can actually give you practical help can mean the world to a young guitarist. Samuraidad rocks.
Agree, you dad is awesome!
I don't care who tells it or what its about, I love guitar stories
the best comment on here and so true I may have to use it too :) Peace !
Same bro it could be a shit story but 4 sum reason I find them interesting 😅
Every guitarist, no matter how experienced or cynical, has a soft spot for that one cheap tele
Joe Schmoe agreed! I’ve been wanting a MiM tele for a while now
Sorry no...
My Fender Tele cost me about 300 bucks used, and it plays and sounds better than any other guitar I've ever played.
Squier cv50s tele vintage blonde. Plays circles around every MIM I've played. Better than most MIA teles I've played. Its nuts.
*Jonny Greenwood intensifies*
I’m 11 and I take lessons at guitar center and there was this one Jackson guitar it was in my favorite color, purple and I loved it so much so I had to go to a recital and it was at guitar center. So I played on that guitar and after the recital my mom said,”Ok go get your guitar”. Then I said to her that I didn’t bring a guitar and my parents were just saying yeah we bought that guitar for it’s yours. So I asked the boss and she said yes. Then my parents said we got you this because your doing really good in school and your really passionate about playing the guitar and that is really my first favorite guitar
Good for you buddy! Your parents must be so impressed!
awesome! keep playing!
Never sell it, you’ll want it when you’re old! You'll always remember your parents getting it for you, and feel closer to them whenever you play. There are few tangible things that you will keep through your whole life but that can be one.
Oh hey, someone my age, also taking guitar lessons
I use a fender squire,modeled afer a strat,i mostly play metal/heavy metal
My guitar has band stickers on it
That is so awesome. Purple is my favorite too! I wish more brands had that color haha
my number one....she's so special.
Matthew Cooper 👏 good story.

@@cavemanissy1143 I think its better if you save up for a 300$ - 400$ Epiphone . I Recommend the Epiphone LP Studio EB and the Epiphone LP Standard. ESP LTD's, Jackson's and Ibanez LPs are also good choices.
@@cavemanissy1143 But hey, don't let a random dude on the internet tell you what to do! Follow your gut if you feel like so.
My #1 is a right handed converted to left handed mexican Stratocaster, used to be my grandfathers but he was a righty and I'm a lefty so when i inhereted it i hendrixed it
Love the MIM strats.
How cool is it to have something from your grandfather that you can love and play forever!
Nice, got my grandpas les Paul.
I really respect the quest
@@jonpatchmodular Good words , in the end it's about playing what makes us happy as musicians, best to you , Peace !

I don't even play guitar, I love this channel and I play tuba. My "AX" is a 1919 Conn 28j.
I played the tuba in high school got to rock out on a 1990s silver Conn Sousaphone
I play an empty wallet
I’m a bassoonist. My bassoon is old and the brand name is scratched off so I have no idea what kinda of bassoon it is, gotta love public school!
I play the women
Obviously its probably going to cost more than a new one so its more how much the stories are worth to you
If that guitar is worth a lot to u... U need to get that guitar fixed its sounds like a great guitar
I'm in Cali and i am the only dude i seen with a Tele. And i see kids always getting that fender strat starter bundle.
@@kylehill9653 lol most flying V's are hard to practice with.
In my town, everyone has a Tele or a Strat, because my local guitar store is basically Fenderland. It's a great place but they need to diversify. I play Les Pauls and SGs with Orange Amps. I'm one of the only guys in my town that plays Les Pauls.
Damn good guitar story. I was expecting you to say you ended up marrying the drunk girl who inadvertently did the relic work for you.
haha!
Love the story. I love that your father was such a big part of it. Now I want a tele :D
My first and only guitar for now is an Ibanez GRG270b from 2007.
I have a Jansen Beatmaster, which uses a Tele body

T_T I wish I had a mere ounce of that passion
I hope whoever stole your guitar gets their life together and has a happy life and then their house burns down
My #1 guitar is my Takemine G-Series Acoustic Guitar.

I love the stories you tell my man! No exception here!
I also just generally love that there sounds like a theme behind a man and his axe.
It does sound old (not in a particularly good way) but it’s unique and I love it
Telecasters are a favorite of mine, also.
Your tele makes me feel like how I’m going to feel about my sg soon because my story is insanely similar I got a shitty guitar when I started and I decided to buy myself an epiphone sg that I had to fix up and I love it so much
a fender acoustic , i saved up birthday,
and Christmas money and painfully long hours working at my local convenience shop to buy it from Rimmers it’s not much but it’s mine and i paid for it which gives me a sense of pride
My baby is a mint 15yo cherry red MIM strat. Guitars are one of the few things that the more you use them the more you like them.
Favvvvyyy is my Fender modified jaguar with H-H config, loooooveeee it to pieces
Bought one also. Lasted maybe 2 months. couldn't keep it in tune and the neck just never felt right. JMO....
That sounds badass! You should make a video on it.
I really love this guy inspired me to get back on my bass so much love for him
Puprle Pin same
I’ve loved music all my life and my dad was a musician, so back in like 5th grade he was teaching my how to play guitar, I stopped for a while after that.
'tis all.
the american idiot Do you have a picture? That sounds really cool.
When I was first learning guitar, my friends told me "never get a Tele, they aren't cool". 30 years later, I built my own, and just finished it. AND I LOVE IT. Take that, haters...
What a bunch of dorks
If a friend tells you that a Tele isn't cool, it's about time you need new friends.
My #1 guitar is a Warmoth Tele with Roasted Swamp Ash body and a 1 piece Roasted Quartersawn Maple neck loaded with Wilde Bill Lawrence Rail pickups (L45S and L45T.)
My dad and I assembled it together, he never cared for Teles until we finished that build.
I just bought my first axe. A used vintage modified jazzmaster. Ive had it for 3days and im already in love with it.
Awesome what pickups are on it ?
Getting deep again at the kitchen table.
thekillingspeed this has a double meaning
I mean look at blue
That's awesome. What year did you buy it?
For some reason listen to you telling stories calms me down. Thx for that !
You always mention your father!!👍maybe is a good idea for a video to have him on!! Meet the wizard thanks man your videos are great
5:38 xDDDD just those frickin'
I just bought a Tele for $700 second hand, I hope all goes well
My number 1 guitar is a custom strat with my signature on the neck, i named it “seven”
My favorite guitar at the moment is my Squier Affinity Strat, my first electric guitar.
Guitar One magazine and a Butterscotch Blonde. You can’t go wrong with that!
I'm just getting into guitar, so I only have one, it's a blue Ibanez Gio
My first guitar, too😊
Just getting into guitar too. I have an Ibanez Gio but black. my dad always complained it was a piece of crap so he gave it to me but i don't know the difference. i'm having a lot of fun with it
I have a Candy Apple Red one :)
My first guitar too
Hey man, Love the videos!
I recently bought my first guitar, and mine is the same model! Newer of course, but I love it just as much as you love yours.
Tele. I took a belt sander to it and made comfort cuts. Painted it black. It's perfect.
Michael B Have one just like that
HERESY
John Frusciante - says a guy using someone else's name. :). If you don't like the mods to my Tele you will probably hate that I put skull decals on the pick guard. :).
i was joking man, everybody's free to play like they want, i prefer the cleaner look of a vintage 60's custom tele, without contour, and for me it's the best thing ever
FWIW: I liked the aesthetics of the stock Tele but I had bruises on my arm even after 2 months of playing.
So my story is nothing! Cause no one ever makes lefty guitars
Kill3r 1345 I feel that
Fellow lefty here, they do. Just don't bother going into a store trying to find one. Haha, I own a Schecter C-7 myself.
I’m a lefty, but I learned guitar righty
Tyler Matty same, I find it easier than playing left handed
I'm a lefty and strangely enough, my guitar actually has a story. Sadly my stories always ends up too long or going off on a tangent though
Hell yea
Getting a Indio for my birthday, and that'll probably be my baby.
my #1 Question: How did you figure out how to afford an apartment? cuz i'm 29 and trying to figure out how (also have 2 dogs)
Big fan of your content. Love your humor. Keep it up!
My number one guitar is a Squier Bullet Strat cuz its the only guitar I have 😂😂
mine is a squier affinity telecaster
Honestly I cannot picture you ever playing clarinet.
And Samuraiclarinetist sounds crap.
Those strings seem pretty high. Might be wrong
Milonso maybe he prefers to have them high
That can be decieving. Its high from the fretboard but it looks like fender jumbo frets so the strings will have to be a little higher to not buzz, but easier to push down on
He said it's indeed been refretted with SS jumbo frets
