Making a Watch Box
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- Hi everyone. Thank you for watching. This box has a pretty simple design with the main feature being the oversized front and back pieces, which create a half inch reveal relative to the sides. The dimensions are about 14.25" x 10.5" x 4". The maple grid that holds the watches was not glued into the box, it simply sits inside. I also did not glue in the top and bottom panels because they are solid hardwood and need room to expand and contract.

I've never seen a latch like that. I really like the gold coupled with a darker wood. Thanks for the upload!
Beautiful box. I love the design especially how the sides stick out. This just goes to show that if you make a box it doesn’t always have to be a box with equal sides that meet each other.
Thank you very much!
I'm going to make a box that I can get into and watch your watch box video. It'll be my watch box watch box.
Wait a second...I would like to watch that!
Bits of wood Workshop
And I’ll make a box to sit on to watch you in your watch box while watching the video on making a watch box. Maybe I’ll make a video of that and call it art. Chris Burden would be proud.
I made one of these also, but I inserted a glass panel in the top so I can admire my watch collection even when the lid is closed!
I didn`t intend to make use of this woodworking book, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* but rather curious about it. I had been truly amazed right after trying it. It never disappointed me in my wish to acquire more information about the art of wood working. Many topics were covered, including everything from wood types to developing your workshop.?
Good looking watch box.
daaamn 5:45 rocking that Stubborn Love, that enhances the quality of your work you know
Every now and then, you throw in bits of sarcasm out of no where, but its always when I am drinking something. Awesome work, sir.
Thanks Christopher! I'll have to show this comment to my wife :)
Man, I'm jealous of the new planer/jointer! Great looking box, too!
Thanks Shaun! You should get one and....joint the club!
@@parillaworks lol wow
@@parillaworks I have a 12" Hammer, was thinking about getting the 16" but realized that I never need to plane that wide and if I ever do, I can always just glue both panels. Combo machines are so underated
That’s a good point but I figured the 12” limit for a planer was a bit too low. 16” seemed to be a great spot for both.
@@parillaworks Does your combo have a DRO? The A3-31 does and you can dial the thickness down to 1/100 of an inch. Pretty cool.
Love it! I agree the straight grain was the perfect choice. Gotta love the humidity in Florida. Yeah,no more grizzly jointer.
Thanks Tom! Don't say the H word!!! You'll wake it up!
Nice job. Well done
Rusted tools. Love it. Another awesome build John.
Just proving out ever underestimated power of rust.
Clearly I don't have to bother with running dehydrates in the shop this summer!!
awsome work. that jointer/planer combo is super!!
Thanks!! So far it's been great!
Brand or store link?
Really nice job on this box. A link to the hardware used would be awesome. Keep up the great work.
Absolutely beautiful watchbox, wow!
Very nice project! Dowelmax is awesome!!! I've had mine for years!
Thanks Steve! It sure is.
A very nice box for watches.
Very nice work and great watch box. I would buy this in a heartbeat.
I'd prefer glass top for the watch box! It can be used as a show box for your collection of watches! After all, great project! Congratulations!
Thank you Burim! Glass would look nice, too, I agree!
Another beautiful project. 👍👍
You are an true artist and I'm amazed by your tools too.
That turned out beautifully. Great job. Very interested in the planer/jointer, looking forward to hearing more about it.
So beautiful
Nice build. Maybe add something soft to the underside of the lid since it closes down on the front of the watches.
I learned at school, that the best way to hold your material on the planer is by placing your hands flat on the material and then slide your hands over the guard of the planer. This way you will keep even pressure on the material! I went to a school in Rotterdam (the netherlands) called HMC specialized in furniture making!
I was taught the same in Switzerland :)
Nice job with clean line design. That planer/jointer is sweet!
Very very nice! Looks great man! A nice piece of work!
Hey. Congratulations on the video! Now I know how to build a beautiful watch case! It saved my life because here in my country there is nobody to do that for me. Please, please, if possible, and indicate where I can buy the magnetic lock (lid lock) and the hinges. Thank you very much!
Nice video...a glass faced top for the case would be nice
Amen! Quarter sawn walnut!
Beautiful! 👍👍👍
Looks fantastic
Please make one for me and ship it to India 🤪
Very nice, I would enjoy also a list of the make and model of each tool that you use
Looks so classy
Simple and Beautiful! Great job.
Nice work. You’re a great craftsman. Well done !
You’ve got a lot of nice toys 👍🏼
Great video...really like the offset front and back. Gives interest to the box. I've used Mahoney's oil in the past and it works well. Recently I've switched over to Odie's oil and it is really impressive. You should give it a try..
Thanks Dan. I'll try to get my hands on some Odies soon!
👌👍 very nice, and I like that gold latch which is nice and minimal.
Very nice but I'm not sure about the over hang on the sides.
Really good! Subscribed 👌
Very nice work! Impressive box. You are scary by not using push sticks on the saw!!!!
Thanks Frank!
Beauty. Nice work brother.
Beautiful work well done!
PROFESSIONAL!
Well, if you bored and want to make 15 slot box with glass top let me know. Very nice attention to detail. Thumbs up!
sweet build! And jointer!
Great work! It looks amazing.
Thank you!!
Beautiful!!
Beautifully done. Thank you for sharing. very sleek.
Hi John I was curious to the router bit size you used for the latch template. When looking up the hardware the template is a different size to the latch dimensions. I really appreciate your thoughts on this, thanks
Trabalho maravilhoso!!!
Esse ficou muito bom mesmo.
Parabéns.
Lovely clean work!
Gorgeous wood and work. Interesting you did not make a glass top for it to show off watches.
At school here in Holland we are taught to just let our hands glide over the guard. No twinkling around with your fingers, just flat hands all the way through
Good to know. In this time since I made this video, I’ve gotten more comfortable with the guard. I still walk the boards with my fingered a little bit but overall it feels more natural than when I first started.
Beautiful box. Excellent video. Thanks!
Where did you buy the gold lock that you have glued on your box?
Awesome! Congratulations!
Excellent work, brother. I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat, if the price isn't too exorbitant.
Thank you! If you’re interested, email me at parillaworks@gmail.com . I would be happy to discuss pricing for various box styles.
Hi, I love what you do.
Can you give us information about your tools, machine. What is the reference of your saw blade ?? Do you have a link for your assembly template ??
Why not a guided tour of your studio video later !!
Continue like this.
Hi there. The template is from Brusso.com. I hope to do a shop tour in the near future! I have to clean up first! :)
@@parillaworks Hi, I can not find the template you use in the 2 minute video.
The blade of your table saw looks great, is it brand?
Yes it would be great a tour of your workshop.
I was wondering. Where do get your ideas from?
Awesome video!
Thanks Joe!
Awesome build there John! 👍🏻 Man I sure like the looks of that new jointer/planner! I didn’t see the brand! Thanks for sharing!
You should do a review on the jointer/planer after using it for a month or so
That's the plan at the moment. I want to get a big project (ie long boards) done on it but I'm not sure I have any in the pipeline at the moment.
excellent and very nice
Beautiful watch box John! Thanks for sharing the video and Congratulations on the new tool! 👍😎JP
First video of yours I’ve come across. Great work, and I’ve subscribed for more!
That's the exact jointer planer combo I'm thinking of buying. I have not seen any reviews or real world info on it. I'd love to hear your thoughts and impressions on it.
So far it’s been great. I’ll be doing an overview in a few weeks; if you have any specific things you want me to address just let me know.
Appreciate the work nice job
Well done! Nice box!
Awesome build man!
No velvet on the inside? When you put in your watch at 9:40 I was afraid of scuff marks by the wood on the leather band.
Wow that’s beautiful!
This is an incredible worth for money [Link Here== *TopFineWoodworking. Com* ]. I have been looking for something like this for quite a while now. I'm happy there are opportunities like this out there. This woodwork plan made a clear presentation with regards to building sheds. Much thanks to you.?
How you have only 57k subs??? Your vids are amazing, please keep up uploading often :D
Thank you :)
Beautiful. Do you have a link for the hinges and latch?
Thank you! They’re available at Brusso.com.
Great video. Beautiful watch box. Just a question if you don't mind. The latch template and the latch itself, we could I find it? Thank you
Thank you! Both of them can be found at Brusso.com.
Thank you very much!
Can you share the information on the latch ? Do you have a website where it can be bought ?
The latch is from Brusso Hardware. They have a few sizes. There is an optional routing template that is very handy.
Can't wait for the review on your Scorpio Jointer/Planer. Was just looking at it yesterday at Canadian Woodworker in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. Might buy it in the next month. One important question I have on it. I have a Dewalt 735 and upgraded with shelix cutterhead. If I plane tight grain wood such as hard maple, I run my fingers from side to side of the board and feel all the low and high spot from different hight of the carbide cutters. Hard to see but easy to feel. Nothing a thickness sander can't get rid of but still drives me crazy. On porous wood such as oak, it is harder to feel the ondulations. So back to my question, does your Scorpio planer do the same thing?
Thank You
Gilbert
Great design! What bit size did you use on the chamfer router? Thanks
Thanks! It’s a 45 degree chamfer bit with a 1/4” shank. I don’t usually measure the size of the chamfer; just go by eye. Nothing too big.
parillaworks wow thank you the subtle details makes it all the more interesting. I also really like the new watch box video you did, timeless pieces for sure!
Thousand grit sandpaper will clean the rust off. Like I did for grandma’s 1947 pen knife. Brought it back from obscurity.
Great job. Im actually making my mother a walnut and wavey maple jewelery box for her upcoming birthday. Can i get a link to that nice brass latch, and that oil you used? Greatly appreciate it. Thumbs up and congrats on the new machinery. Very nice.😊

Thank you Christine!! Here's the latch: www.brusso.com/jb-818/
Very nice box. Did you buy the pillows or were they a DIY project?
That is gorgeous. I see you use a lot of hand held routers. You you prefer that over a router table?
Thank you! A router table has been on my to-do list for a long time now. I might put on in the extension of my table saw. At the same time, I do like using smaller routers because they can handle most of the tasks I throw at them.
BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE IT!
Really enjoying your videos, thanks for sharing... Can you tell me approx. how big the slots are for each watch? I don't need one that large but trying to figure out for a smaller box. THANKS AGAIN!
They were about 2.5” x 3.5” to match the pillows.
Thank you for the quick reply!!!!
Awesome Box and Channel. By chance would you be willing to add a link of name and where you purchased the the box latch?
Thanks Dan. Here's the latch I used: www.brusso.com/jb-818/
Amazing work as always. Love the simplistic design, and the reveal on the corners.
Outstanding project.........does that combo come mostly assembled?
Thank you!! Yes, the only things to attach are the fence and cutter guard, which are pretty simple tasks.
Who makes that jointer planner you have an how much does it cost?
CWI Woodworking Technologies. You can find more information on their site: www.cwimachinery.com
Do you sell this somewhere? Looking for a new watch box.
Awesome job!!!!!! Very very classy!!! Where do I get the locking/halsp?
Thank you! Brusso.com.
Just found your channel. Awesome work!
Any Chance in the future for Plans for Sale?
Beautiful work! Do you sell the boxes??
Thanks Shane. Yes, I make them one or two at a time depending on the customers needs.
well done
Nice work
pretty nice, where do you buy the hardware ?
Thank you. Brusso.com
Thanks i got my idea for my exam next year
Where do you buy the hinges for your projects?
Brusso.com
What table saw sled were you using ?
Incra Miter Express.
Nice jointer/planer. I’d be interested to hear about snipe, if any, and any major adjustments you have to do to keep it running well. Does it hold setup well? Also, great video!
Thanks Jon! So far there isn't any snipe when planing and a slight amount when jointing, but that was fixed by raising the outfeed table slightly. The fence has kept square between changeovers, which is a relief.
