  • I'll be laying some electrical conduit and connecting water line to the house in this episode of Building our Dream Home. A lot of this part is the hard ground work that no one looks forward to but has to be done. Let's get after it, and there will be more fun to come in the next video when we backfill the foundation. Spoiler alert: It looks fantastic!

I don't have a ton of regrets but if I could go back, I probably would have bit the bullet and had more kids, maybe even started younger. Oh well, in hindsight everything is easier. • @MikeKincaid79

Yes, I've thought of all kinds of ideas like that to utilize the water. For right now, I have to run the pipe out to daylight and just let it run off because that's what the county wants in order to approve it. Once everything is done, I have some ideas about connecting it somehow into a drip irrigation system that would cover most of the rhododendron beds on that side of the house. Or at least flood the beds when it rains. That would be really cool to have a setup like that.

I considered that but we can't have the pipe going across the front of the garage and the other side is uphill. It'll all work out and this is how most homes are done in my area. As far as clean out ports, there's essentially a clean out at every corner where the downspouts are.

    • @MikeKincaid79

Yeah, the conduit has been a ton of work but it's good peace of mind in the end, especially with all the rocks I have. I've thought about doing a video of the layout but many people have tried to steer me away from that, including my wife. Not sure why that could cause a problem, as it's just a basic 3 bedroom 2 bath house, and if someone really wanted to get inside they'd find a way. Anyway, for my wife's peace of mine, that one is on hold for now. The lumber will be delivered tomorrow and framing starts Wednesday. My ultimate dream would be to have all the buildings run off into 1 or 2 giant cisterns that are buried underground. Before you get going too far Mike??? I noticed that you had your downspouts were hooked up to pipe so as the water can drain away from the house??? which is a great deal!!! Make sure you put some “clean outs” all along the way??? for when dirt and silt build up over the years or you will have trouble!!! I did the same thing but along the route??? I put in stub ups💐💐💐 so I could run a garden hose down there and make sure they’re clean all the time???

I have been thinking about how to clean these out, in the back of my mind. To late now to add anything because we just did the backfill, but there are downspouts all around the house that I could access the pipes through. I think a good plan would be to hose them out once a year to keep fir needles and leaves from backing things up. I already have a little roof maintenance I do every summer on all my buildings. I'll just have to add this one to the list and hose them out. The end of the pipe will run out to daylight so I'll always be able to see if the water is flowing or not.

Always put clean outs along your routes on drain lines!!!

There's basically a built in clean out at ever downspout. When it comes time to do the sewer pipe, I'll definitely have clean outs. Appreciate the suggestions. There are so many things to think about in a project like this and people are constantly giving me great ideas as I go.
