So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came. കര്‍ത്താവ്‌ അബ്രാമിനോട്‌ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു: നിന്റെ ദേശത്തെയും ബന്‌ധുക്കളെയും പിതൃഭവനത്തെയും വിട്ട്‌, ഞാന്‍ കാണിച്ചുതരുന്ന നാട്ടിലേക്കു പോവുക. ഞാന്‍ നിന്നെ വലിയൊരു ജനതയാക്കും. നിന്നെ ഞാന്‍ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കും. നിന്റെ പേര്‌ ഞാന്‍ മഹത്തമമാക്കും. അങ്ങനെ നീ ഒരനുഗ്രഹമായിരിക്കും. നിന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവരെ ഞാന്‍ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കും. നിന്നെ ശപിക്കുന്നവരെ ഞാന്‍ ശപിക്കും. നിന്നിലൂടെ ഭൂമുഖത്തെ വംശങ്ങളെല്ലാം അനുഗൃഹീതമാകും. കര്‍ത്താവു കല്‍പിച്ചതനുസരിച്ച്‌ അബ്രാം പുറപ്പെട്ടു. ലോത്തും അവന്റെ കൂടെ തിരിച്ചു. ഹാരാന്‍ ദേശത്തോടു വിടപറഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ അബ്രാമിന്‌ എഴുപത്തഞ്ചു വയസ്സു പ്രായമായിരുന്നു. അബ്രാം ഭാര്യ സാറായിയെയും സഹോദരപുത്രന്‍ ലോത്തിനെയും കൂടെക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി. ഹാരാനില്‍ തങ്ങള്‍ നേടിയ സമ്പത്തും ആളുകളുമായി അവര്‍ കാനാന്‍ ദേശത്തേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ട്‌, അവിടെ എത്തിച്ചേര്‍ന്നു. ഉല്പത്തി 12 : 1-5 God Calls Abram 12 The Lord told Abram, “You are to leave your land, your relatives, and your father’s house and go to the land that I’m going to show you. 2 I’ll make a great nation of your descendants, I’ll bless you, and I’ll make your reputation great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I’ll bless those who bless you, but I’ll curse the one who curses you, and through you all the people[a] of the earth will be blessed.” 4 So Abram left there, as the Lord had directed him, and Lot accompanied him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran.

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Let’s build ourselves a city and a tower, with its summit in the heavens, and let’s make a name for ourselves[d] so we won’t be scattered over the surface of the whole earth.” 5 However, the Lord descended to look over the city and the tower that the humans were building. 6 The Lord said, “Look! They are one people with the same language for all of them, and this is only the beginning of what they will do.[e] Nothing that they have a mind to do will be impossible for them! 7 Come on! Let’s go down there and confuse their language, so that they won’t understand each other’s speech.” 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the surface of the whole earth, so that they had to stop building the city. 9 Therefore it was called Babylon,[f] because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth, and from there the Lord scattered them over the surface of the entire earth.

നമുക്ക്‌ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്ന്‌ അവരുടെ ഭാഷ, പരസ്‌പരം ഗ്രഹിക്കാനാവാത്തവിധം ഭിന്നിപ്പിക്കാം.
അങ്ങനെ കര്‍ത്താവ്‌ അവരെ ഭൂമുഖത്തെല്ലാം ചിതറിച്ചു. അവര്‍ പട്ടണംപണി ഉപേക്‌ഷിച്ചു.
അതുകൊണ്ടാണ്‌ ആ സ്‌ഥലത്തിനു ബാബേല്‍ എന്നു പേരുണ്ടായത്‌. അവിടെവച്ചാണ്‌ കര്‍ത്താവ്‌ ഭൂമിയിലെ ഭാഷ ഭിന്നിപ്പി ച്ചതും അവരെ നാടാകെ ചിതറിച്ചതും.
