First of all, I would like to thank you for promoting this movie. More people will come to know that there is still hope for Indian movies. Bollywood anyways is going down the drain. And secondly, I watched this movie with a friend 2 days back, and I absolutely was gut wrenched and smitten by this gem. The performances were so raw and real that you may think that you can run into such characters on any day in life. The attention to details, background scores , everything was phenomenal. Very highly recommended.

I like the term "axomiya". It's much better than Assamese sounds a little awkward in conversations made in non-english languages. And I absolutely hate it when someone says aasami instead.
Is axiomi a term used in Assam ? Not heard of it before.
@@jennythomasmathew it's an Assamese term used by the Assamese people to describe themselves. Like the Americans, the British, Japanese. Axomiya and Assamese means the same thing,it's just that "Assamese" is the anglicised version of the native word "axomiya". I am from Assam and I agree with you. But due to limitations like dubbing issues, many regional language movies be it from Assam, Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka etc don't get due recognition from Public from other parts of the nation.
And regional movies don't get proper run in the popular theatres due to heavy budget and high number of movies from Bollywood

I watched the lone show of Aamis here in Bangalore last Friday. The way northeasterns, non-northeasterns and the south audiences gave straight standing ovations after the ending credits was so overwhelming to experience. The movie kept everyone hooked to the screen. So raw so unusual yet successfully establishing the connections between the characters and the audience, that's the power of true storytelling. it's a haunting art.

@@Nooboroshi absolutely bro.
@@bitupanborah8497 I just hope there are more decent movies coming.
@@Nooboroshi well there are some cool projects under production.
Watched "Aamish" today. And what can I say! The film is an overwhelming juxtaposition of passion, lust, desire and addiction stretched to its limits. What follows are moments of chaos and ramifications of repressed sexuality that slowly pryes the mental stability of the lead characters. The two protagonists, caught between a forbidden sexual desire and the construct of social relationships, descends into such conclusive acts of inhumanity that it compelles us to question the entire notion of "normalcy", which is a recurrent trope throughout the entire movie.
In fact, meat serves as a metaphor for lust and tension between the two protagonists, which can only be consolidated through the physical act of sex. But what if society restricts its consummation and forces them to be celibate? The film tries to answer this by searching for the notion of "normal" through graphic acts and symbols of union which are widely regarded as "abnormal", while constantly reminding us that abnormality, just like normality, is a construct. The catharsis of the plot arrives as a form of satisfying this perpetual craving of "meat", portrayed through images of psychological imbalance or dream visions; like a state of trance or hallucinations.
When Anurag Kashyap said that this movie is something unlike any other prior Assamese film, I was sceptical and assumed it to be a marketing strategy. Boy was I wrong! This film is going to shatter your ideas of a perceived reality and leave your imagination in splits. The movie deals with an issue which our society would consider a taboo or shocking, and attempts at representing the disturbed psychological state of an "addict", through symbols of love and unity which consequently turns destructive. A MUST WATCH.

Yesterday only watched this wonderful piece of art 😍😍😍 was totally blown by the concept, making and lead actors Performances.........gave a new insight into Assam fill industry, never have known such a film segment existed.....now started taking interest in Assamese films.....kudos to the director 👏👏 though the subject is highly disturbing for many, I totally loved the pure cinematic experience and the poetic way it showed love, it's madness in a diff form......'how deep you will go on to feed/satiate your love' a literal way to put the film's plot.......Lima das, in love with her expressive eyes and tat seductive smile......both of them were natural on screen, still in awe of the film.....deserves every bit of accolades its receiving.....
Thank you for bringing it up. Being a film student i want to share few experience of mine. Assam has always made some of the masterpieces when it comes to movie and theatrics from the first Assamese film Joymoti by Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala to Buwari, Dr. Bezbaruah, Piyoli Phukan, Puberun, Aranya, Chameli Memsaab etc. to the recent ones Bulbul Can Sing, Kothanodi, Village Rockstars etc. Sadly we remain unnoticed like our state. SPOILERS*
My interpretation of the movie is that
the meat symbolises love and sexual act. The protagonists are unable to express their natural feelings due to our social and moral norms and they find 'meat', a way to express that feeling.
Sumon calls her 'baido'(elder sister) and Nirmali is also open to her husband about Sumon as she invites him for dinner.
When Sumon is scared to touch her, hence failing to get physical with her, he discovers the idea to give her his flesh. This act probaby symbolises sexual intercourse as Sumon is getting inside her body. When Nirmali eats the meat she founds it very tasty and soon Nirmali gets addicted to the stuff. We can see her feeling ecstatic as she flies in the sky after consuming the meat that probably signifies orgasm. At the end we can finally see Nirmali touching Sumon's hand for the first time as their true identity is revealed to everyone. They have no one to be afraid of. They have lost everything and by losing everything they have found eachother.
The human flesh can also be interpreted as the 'forbidden fruit'. The forbidden meat makes them to commit the sin i.e. gluttony and sets them to the path of crime.
The weird thing is that one can relate to the protagonists. Nirmali, a lonely woman who seeks the company of a young adventurous man. She gets addicted to the 'forbidden'. Sumon who selflessly provides her with his parts of body and even murders a man. The same man with whom the movie starts alongside the other two(the rickshaw driver). The man becomes the collateral damage. Despite the protagonists have a twisted psychological mindset and follow the path of crime, somehow they are very much human and relatable. They are as close to as your friends and neighbors. We all have a 'Sumon' and 'Nirmali' within ourselves and that is just haunting.
One of the central theme of the movie can be summarised by a dialogue from the movie itself,
" Actually, the definition of 'normal' isn't universal. When it comes to eating meat what's normal for you... May be abnormal for others."
Thus the movie deals with north-eastern food habits, platonic love, lust, desire, repressing thoughts, spiritual love, forbidden love, murder and gluttony. The screenplay, cinematography, acting and the background score is mesmerising. The atmosphere of Guahati can be easily felt. The BGM and the off screen violence was chilling and will send you to a translucent state. I have only two words to describe the movie: HAUNTING AND BEAUTIFUL.
The only question that I have is why can't Sumon consume Nirmali's flesh. Was it because he loved her?( He loves dogs therefore doesn't eat dog-meat. But earlier he ate his chicken in his childhood that he loved.) Is this done intentionally to create conflicted mindset of the protagonists? We can also see Nirmali eating chicken from fridge even though she is afraid of infections. That also proves her conflicted mindset.
What's your interpretation?
As you said the act of nirmali consuming his flesh is a metaphor for intercourse and so the male is one inside the female and not vice versa.
And when it comes to eating what you love.It means that you don't have to eat what you love like for the case of dogs but love does make it tastier in some cases .🙃
That's just what I think
Yes, there is a dialogue, when Nirmali goes to check on his friend that meat isn't the problem, gluttony is...
Thank you for this review! The assamese film and music industry is extremely underrated. Although I won't claim that all assamese movies are good, there definitely are pieces that will blow your mind.
