I laughed so hard at this xD
His buddy was non other than Carl Fismer! Look him up, he would know the value..

Yeah really, he's probably rolling in his grave right now as we speak. XD
Thats the kind of stuff that goes through generations of a family.
Jewsus
dustinflocka Had it kept being passed down. And gold keeps going up as it does. It could’ve been worth at least $50k by 2100
Chicken Of the Cave way more than 50 2100 is almost 90 years away

this killed me
If my grandfather gave me that I would never sell it.

The pawn guy is like, damn shoulda bought it for $2k....
The pawn guy
Jesus Christ King of kings Lord Of lords How are you going to pull a law suit off of that? If he offers to sell for $2,000 then that's on him.
Tanner Lynn Greed stopped him. He thought it was fake because the guy asked so little.
Rick*
Lets all be honest here,,, the guy brought the coin to the pawn shop,,, pawn shops have an obligation to tell you what your product is worth,,, obviousley the guy who brought the coin in did not have a clue what it is worth and just threw a number on the table, obviousley rick did not know what it was worth either or he could not tell if it was fake,, so he brought an expert in to look at it... yeah he could of bought it straight up for 2,000 dollars however if he did buy it and it was fake he would of been out... the right thing to do in this case is get it appraised....
Rick probably sold that thing for 30gs
Exactly !
in that condition i think its about 23 grands. for 30 grands it has to look even more clean and less eroded.
Daniel Plainview
gold doesnt errode dumbfuck...dont reprocreate and do us a favour
Yo chill out, he made a simple mistake but you knew what he meant. You're seriously gonna go ballistic on him for something like that? Reprocreate is not a word dumbfuck. Stfu and do us all a favor, don't procreate because you'd make more dumbfucks like yourself.
Upon arriving home...
Wife: "How much did you get for the coin?"
Guy: "I wanted $2,000, but I settled for $1,500."
Guy: "And as soon as I left the store, the producers told me the footage was unusable and won't air. So, don't even bother watching the show , I won't be on TV. Here's 200 bucks, buy something nice."
sees this episode. leaves.
Ricks buddy: I'd say it's about 500,000
Rick: how much you want
Seller: sounds like 500,000
Rick: no it don't, I'll give you a dollar

His grandfather gives him a legendary and highly sought after piece of history on his deathbed and he comes into a pawn shop ready to sell it at rock bottom price.
How much do you want for it? .."sounds like 18,000$ to me!" ... Rick *No it Don't* Lmfaooo
That sounds about right Rick'
Vaethus x
Daniel Duchene old coin for sale please yourpries
He only wanted $2,000! Lol! He walked out with a come up!
He got ripped off, big time. All he had to do was go to a reputable coin dealer, and he could have sold it for $20k at auction easily. That's without it even being graded by PCGS/ NGC. If it's in as good condition as they say it is, it could be one of the highest grades in the world and an even bigger premium would have been paid for it after it was slabbed.
People who go to Pawn Shops with THIS type of stuff are just stupid. His original asking price was about $600 away from what the Gold was worth, alone.
+Max Wilson what's slabbed?
Edwin
When a coin is graded by one of the major and trusted coin grading associations, it's put inside a tamper-proof, hand-holdable "Slab." Once this is done, a coin officially carries a trusted grade that dictates it's asking price.
Here's a random example of a slabbed/ graded "Spanish Fleet Doubloon" coin: (Notice how it's graded at MS63... that mean it's in Mint State,+3. The highest grade a coin can receive is MS70.
www.bonanza.com/listings/Peru-1712-Gold-8-Escudos-Doubloon-Coin-Ngc-63-Fin-Kn-1715-Plate-Fleet-Shipwreck/302650784?goog_pla=1&gpid=68416460701&keyword=&goog_pla=1&pos=1o5&ad_type=pla&gclid=Cj0KEQjw4J-6BRD3h_KIoqijwvkBEiQAfcPiBbG7r9QwzLd5t14JFi31noJFCjpkkLTpWNKmr9dxvVAaAlWH8P8HAQ
My gosh! Those coins are beautiful! That price tag tho. Why can't they make silver replicas like this. I buy silver rounds. thanks for the info btw
Edwin
I'm invested in Silver. it's been a rough couple of weeks :/
I'm sure you could find hand-struck rounds somewhere... It would appeal to the same crowd that like the hand poured bars. Actually, thats a pretty good business Idea. Time to go buy some Silver Shot and design a Die!
If Rick wouldn't have called in "His guy" he would have saved 9 thousand if not more.
Lol
I don't think Rick wants to get shot
“Sounds like 18000 dollar to me”
“No it don’t” 😂😂😂😂😂
The plot in this anime is unreal
wait till he goes super syain
@@furydeath lma0
glad he didnt go berserk when he heard 18k
should have gone $15,000 at least
$15000 is way too high. If you go into a pawn shop, you can expect 1/2-2/3 price for it. $11000 is actually a solid deal for him.
Bryan Jones because the auctions for these kinds of items have seriously high commission. There is also the fact that the kinds of auctions where this coin would get the full 18,000 are quite rare. He would probably have to sit on it for a month or two. And there is also the risk of him putting it in for auction and it not getting any bids because there are no collectors who want this kind of coin in the room. That way he still has to pay some auction fees but he's taking it home. Another risk is that it seems for about 10,000 or less at auction. It's easier to let someone else take all those risks than to do it yourself. So 11,000 is a good deal
AWE39V8 !!!! AWE39V8 !!!! If it was that easy no one would put any item in an auction house. Very few people on this planet are willing to spend the value of this coin on eBay. Too much risk of getting a counterfiet. Collectors will only pay top dollar if they see the item they are going to by prior to the purchase and have a third party authenticate it. Part of why auction houses charge such a high commission is due to the fact that they will have their own people authenticate all rare and expensive items. And since the auction houses reputation is on the line they make sure the job is done properly. This doesn't happen on eBay. So you have to trust that the seller is genuine about the product and it's value. That coin will go to an auction house, everyone who is interested will know it's exact monetary value before the auction begins, and the rest is down to what that coin is worth to them personally. There is a lot of security in dealing through an auction house. Rick will put this coin in an auction. Both the auction house and rick will let everyone who may possibly be interested in it and has the money to pay for it will be alerted that this coin is up for sale and they will be in attendance. Compare all of that to the random chance that two people who can afford this coin and want it will type in '1715 Spanish fleet coin' into Ebays search bar and that they both won't just wait until the last second to place a bid that is under the coins value but above what they believe the reserve price will be and that the coin will go to someone for a couple hundred dollars over the reserve instead of six grand above the actual value, which is something that normal people do when spending twenty or thirty dollars on a single item never mind something worth twenty to thirty thousand dollars. And eBay doesn't sound like it's such a viable option anymore does it? Because if eBay was an option for these kinds of things then antique stores, auctions and all forms of antique trade would have just went bankrupt when eBay and Amazon blew up
Sit on it for a month or two? No, you're talking at least a year for this plus probably at least 30% commision for something like this and then tax and other fees such as advertisement etc. By the end, even if it went for 18k he would be lucky to get 11k out of it, this is why Pawn Shops are so great but so many people, like the ones in the comment section of these videos have no idea.
AWE39V8 !!!! eBay is only good if you are careful about purchasing scammers and if you have no feedback selling an expensive thing that could be fake is very hard.
2:16 lmao at Ricks reaction
Do people do zero research on what they have before they go through the process of making it onto Pawn Stars, and starting the negotiations?
doing research on such old stuff is almost pointless unless you already KNOW for sure its real.
today you can get fake copys of almost anything.
i dont have much gold but i have lots of very old silver coins i have gotten for face value from neighbours and friends.
they think the value is gone if its say not shiny ore dented ore scratched. but its still silver hehehe
i havent sold any of those old ones but i have started buying new silver coins, as an retirement investment.
i guess i need a bigger safe deposit box soon. hehe.
This show is so Fake my fried went there an sent photos of the shop and it is NOTHING like what U see on TV at all!!
why? silver have kept its relative value for thousands of years... even if papermoney become wourthless like it have done in several country trough history. silver still kept its relative value...
i dont expect to get rich by the close to 100 oz i have so far but i add a few coins each month and hope that keep me safe in case of a new hyperinflation
may and may? of course everything can loose its value.. but say stocks is a very insecure investment...
if you get say a new depression with hyperinflation like during the great depression in say usa and germany where a bread costed 5.000.000.00 mark..
it was cheaper to burn paper money than say buy wood ore fuel... same with stocks
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperinflation_in_the_Weimar_Republic
it costed 5.000.000.000 mark for a stamp to a letter. hehe
i have never seen a country guarantee stocks ore money..... i for example got som bank stocks when my father died, and i kept them instead of selling them when the price fell to half during the little depression in late 80s in norway...
the bank asked for help from the state, and the state demanded that the bank had to zero the stocks for the state to put in founds, so in a way you can say the state and the bank stole the stock holders money...
silver on the other hand will never be wourtless, not as long as its used so much in industry and electronics and medical equipment
Rick: I'd like to call a buddy of mine who served in the Spanish navy back in the 1700s.
Customer: Sure...I'll wait.
Seller: I have here is a real baby pterodactyl covered in real gold. I am hoping to get $650,000?
Rick: Listen, dinosaurs haven't been selling lately in the market, last thing i want is a dead bird laying around my shop... best i can do is 100 bucks
Seller: ...but it's a real dinosaur covered in gold?
Rick: $150 take it or leave. Most I can do
Shenis O hahah!!...marry me!
A cute girl who's also funny? We've found the holy grail!
Thirsty lonely losers
Rick: "The Velociraptor Boom ended *years* ago!"
Great video guys 👍🏼 love history & your show! New subscriber 😀
2:01 my organs when i finally eat a piece of fruit
1:35 That voice looks like Cain in Diablo 2.. "Stay a while and listen". LOL
+GusBRGameplay Thanks a lot! Now that stuck in my head for hours. :P
+EchoNorbi lol
i was thinkin the same thing bro LOL
Diablo 2? no the first one
I remember having a little glass chest of those coins (replicas) when I was 5 from the boardwalk in Florida. Coolest coins ever, it’s what got me into coin collecting.
Lol do these people ever hear of sentimental value ? "My grandfather gave it to me when he died. I have no use for it". Am I the only one that sees this as a bad thing
No. Guy is greedy.
I agree
Maybe he really needs the money. You have no idea what his situation is?
Yeah I would pass it on to my own children
Sometimes when your in debt sentimental value ain’t gonna help
I love how greedy that dude got after he finding out he under priced his grandfathers gold coin
And then they're gonna put it up on sale.. for 50k. 🤔🤑
Not likely, these coins in this grade sell for between 5 and 30 grand. Depending on how many people want it.
Well the price of it if they sell it in the Pawn Shop could be around 20k but if they bring it to the auction the more a person wants it the more money they are willing to spend
You can ask as much as you want but if the market value is 18k that's what you're going to get.
and sell it for 10 995$.
Rick is like why did I call my buddy
Dude, I am so happy for this guy.
Rick could've easily ripped him off if he had just accepted the $2000 offer.
It's worth 18,000?
I'll give you 180.
I'm taking all the risk
Rick was sick! His face says it all after the estimate 😂👍🏻🥳
just went to the Mel Fisher museum in Key West. it was AWESOME
"I would like 2,000 for it"
5 mins later
"I wont take anything less than 11,000"
I't called "Common sense" for ya!
@@GiotheGhreat It's called being ungrateful. It's too bad that it seems that there hasn't ever been an episode where the expert says it's worth a lot more than the customer's asking price, and where the customer is grateful enough to sell it at their asking price instead of them jacking up their asking price even more. The idea that the pawn broker is suddenly willing to give the person more than that person's asking price, yet that person then tries to jack up the price even more, that comes across as ungrateful.
crazy to think theirs $600 million dollars somewhere In the coast of Florida.
Absolutely! And im sure theres a bit off the Carolina coasts, in the Bahamas and Cuba. I wanna go and find some so bad haha! It's be awesome! Not just for the gold, but for the history!
Mr. Obvious The Fifth cocaine is shite cannabis all the way
900*
My local restaurant has a large piece of an actual wrecked Spanish ship just hangin above the bar. Lol things prolly priceless
95 percent of the ocean is “unexplored”
Just think about this..
And how many treasures hidden below sand..
An "expert" touching that barehanded.😂😂
very good !!
If he didnt call his friend then he couldve bought it for 2k..
Angelo Gaming lmao so true
The value of the coin was probably $30,000, Rick and the "expert" made a deal beforehand.
Angelo Gaming Wrong. Real business men don't gamble like that If he didn't call the expert he could have bought a knock off reproduction and lost money
Angelo Gaming a bad friend lol
A fake coin is most of the time obsvious ( especially back in 2010-2012 ) now the counterfeit are so good that the tpgs certified fake coin : /
Rick has more friends than anyone and they’re all genius’s
Nice video
I wonder if there's EVER been an episode or youtube clip of Pawn Stars where not only did Rick offer more than the person's asking price, but where that person was grateful enough to take the deal instead of price haggling with Rick. I'm guessing that's never happened on Pawn Stars. It would be a cool to see something like that, though.
This show is so addictive. Eventhough the pawnbrokers have to make ends meet. they always bring real experts with real opionions on the value of pawns. That means so much to me considering the world we live in today where everything is coached bribable. RESPECTS TO THIS SHOW AND RICK AND THE STARS. that owner of the coin need to give Carl some cash he might not need it, but you just got more than you thought you could get. imho.
Rick was ready to SMACK him after that 18K offer.
Interesting fact: the "P.V." letters engraved on the coin stand for "plus ultra", to this day national motto of Spain, Latin language words meaning "beyond".
Sometimes it is better not to hire experts. From 2.000 to 11.000. LOL
I'm in the Treasure business. Rick screwed that guy.
How so?
How much would you put the value on the Spanish Coin?
how much would you pay to get it
Would you like to buy my 1711 Escudo hold coin. It's just as nice as the one Rick bought.
His gramps flipped over in his grave with a Spanish bad word coming out his mouth.
ahahahhahahahhaha
Quickest assessment I've ever seen.
I like how the expert puts his fingers all over it. You only hold a coin by the rim of it. I see this a lot on this show.
In that condition, that coin is worth way more than 18k!
DANCERcow No it's not
It's called living in the moment. People getting mad over something being sold that didn't even belong to them!?
Wow..Amazing
This guy looks like the kind of guy that will go and lose it all in las vegas
"That's like finding Treasure!" What are you talking about that IS finding treasure
takes grandads coin in to sell, asks for 2k, gets valued at 18k and takes 11k low ball offer, what an absolute muppet..!!
Fr
He looks like a kind man.
Such a beautiful coin, not surprised it is so expensive.
The date of that coin is 1712. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they used the initial 1 in the dates on those coins because they didn't fit into the design, so you only see the final 3 digits of the date. Only one of 12 of the ships in the fleet survived the hurricane. That's just FYI on the history that wasn't stated in the video. As to price, I'm looking at past hammer prices of other 1712 Lima 8 escudo gold coins on Heritage Auctions site (a premier auction site that has sold numerous multi-million dollar coins). The two highest graded coins (both NGC, MS63) sold for $20,700 in 2012 and $17,265 in 2014. That 20,700 matches the highest price sold at this auction house for the same STYLE of coin. A 1699 coin of the same style in MS64 sold for the same price in 2008. Therefore, the best this guy could've expected to get at auction back during the filming of this PS episode was 21K. He got a little underpriced because that coin appeared to be an MS63 level coin. It was mint state 60 or higher for sure. Dude left a chunk of change on the table in this deal. Rick worked him a bit compared to some of the other coin deals I've seen on the show.
The reverse kind of looks like AU-50 to be honest
Rick this is hamered coin. Weak strike are very frenquent and the coin die wasn't polished/surfaced before the strike ( a lot of flaw and before-strike scratch ) , this is extremely hard to know the real grade/condition of this coin whitout a good knowledge.
Sir I have a 1711 Escudo gold coin. Where would you suggest I take mine to sell besides bend me over Rick?
i guessed 20k so close!!
and yet so far
I always watch these while eating lol
Que programa tan 👍 nitido.. verdad que sí... ok and ok
I wouldn't have sold that, especially how way off the price was.
Remember he was trying to sell it for 2 grand
And it's a pawn shop they try to make value off everything it's not like retail that's why you can also get steals at pawnshops
In order to make 18k+ you need to put it for an auction. After that the auction house gets to keep 25% of the sold value. If Rick sold it for 18k at an auction he gets to keep 13.5k. The man who sold it for 11k does not have to worry about the unpredictable nature of an auction. I feel Rick gave him a good offer, cause he has to put work to make that money back.
Why would you sell that smh....
Usually the guy who says a price first, gets less or pays more. Exception to the Rule, Nice Coin! You got to Love that Spanish Cross on the Obverse.
Good to see you rick
Customer: *comes in* I’d like $2,000”
...
...
Customer: “I won’t take any less than 11k”
Wtf that coin is 300 years old and they are offering that much. He's better off going to a museum and trying to sell that.
Noah Blanco museums don’t buy things off you, they take donations. He could’ve taken it to a decent coin place and got a bit more for it though, for sure
Essa moeda é muito linda, que não gostaria de ter uma dessa na coleção. Muito top top mesmo 👏👏👏👏
According to my understanding, 5 Spanish ships were sunk in a hurricane in 1715, while in transit back to Spain, heavily laden with silver & gold treasure. This occurred just offshore from modernday Vero Beach, Ft Pierce, Sabastian Inlet. The following year, Spain sent a salvage expedition and recovered most of the treasure. What remains unsalvaged to this day will forever be available to be randomly found occasionally. I have a 1 Reale silver coin from that origin, found in 1984.
This dude just got ripped of 7 grand
He didn’t since the Pawn Shop is a business they have to re sell items
How could you sell a family aerlume for money
Because money.
Tommy Mccarthy
Dude...."aerlume"??? Really?
Come on now. The word is literally comprised of two smaller words; the word "heir", as in "one who has a right to inheritance" and "loom", as in "a tool or an implement."
Tommy Mccarthy and there you go. walked in with an aerlume and walked out with heirloom in the comment section. thank you spelling teacher
because he needs his cocaine !
A person who sells a family HEIRLOOM... is the same person who would spell it as ‘Aerlume’.
wish we all had a grandpa like that.
I miss this show.
You can't blame Rick for this. The customer went from $2K to $18K to $12K....he was all over the place. He should have started his negotiation at $15K....and he might have been able to get a little more than $11K.
i have a gold coin from 1400's from india weighing around 3.5grms 21karat.guessing the price for it.
30,000, but i wont give you more than $300 for it
"ill take all the risk"
i will $30, let me know
i got it appraised and got a valuation of $2500. im gonna keep it for a rainy day.love u grandpa.
But I need to make something on it. It costs money to sell stuff. How does $100 sound?
That belongs in a museum!!!!
What a beautiful coin
So he sold a constantly appreciating highly valuable collector item made out of gold for a bunch of paper which is worth something just because crooked people say it is, tomorrow it can be junk and it would never appreciate.
Except that worthless paper gets you food and shelter...that gold coin does not.
+James P. $11,000 won't keep a roof over your head for very long, not even a value of any house, $11,000 is not a lot of money to live off of
***** that's correct but it's better than a "useless" coin
Some coins appreciate much faster than others and some remain stagnant despite their relative rarity (either absolute rarity or condition rarity). A lot of things in coins makes no sense as far as that goes. Identical coins in conditions similar to the one this guy sold haven't appreciated too much even since that epi of PS aired. Auction figures have shown that to be true. Market and desirability can stagnate how much a coin appreciates. What Dude had there IS a rare coin, no doubt about it. Coins from that era are all fairly rare to begin with and especially ones that were as well-struck (centered) and in such good condition are even rarer. The coin he had even had more luster than some gold coins that are hundreds of years newer. Problem is, how many people are in interested in high-grade Lima 8 Escudos? There are MANY modern US cents that rival or exceed the retail price of that coin and US cents are very popular to collect, even with rich collectors. Gold Liberty and St. Gaudens double eagles of a rarity equivalent to this coin in the show would go for mortgage money. Mostly because US double eagles are popular.
yeah that "bunch of paper" is paying your internet bill, your phone / computer and just about everything you do in a day so i don't think that "bunch of paper" is less important than the coin
Rick knew it was real, but he called a expert anyways just so the guy wasn't getting screwed
Let me call your grandpa - he knows all about it.
Wow the guy did a great job negotiating. Rick pushed it close, he just sliiightly edged it closer without being greedy.
his grandfather is rolling over in his grave... this video makes me so very sad. This guy blew the money on gambling, drinks and food. look at my channel and see why i am sad :(
Punny Metals if his grandpa don't sell it, this is probably because he wanted this real treasure to rest in the familly, his herritage. Very sad
don't forget the strippers and cocaine
Wholesome
Imagine a day were u are hoping for 2k n get 11k 🤔, whatta day 🤘🏼🎊
That's a win for him!
Love the way he says 10 grand and keeps a straight face. The the seller say 11 so fatty pauses for a few seconds to make the seller think he made fatty pay more than he wanted to. The seller takes much less than its worth and old fatty sells it for about 16 and makes a nice 5 grand profit.
"I don't really have a use for it" ....it's money, you spend it. That's it's use.
At least 11K is worthy than rejecting the offer and lose the coin on the way back home.
What I have learned:
1. Every expert in the world on every subject lives in Las Vegas.
2. All these people live near this pawn shop
3. They all know Rick, who is a "buddy."
4. What a coincidence.
5. If the customer finds out the item is a lot more valuable than what they thought it was after an expert comes in to look at it, they become ungrateful by trying to haggle with the pawn broker's offer even though the pawn broker's offer was even more than that person's asking price. It'd be nice to see at least one of those customers actually be grateful where they accept the offer that was higher than their asking price when they walked in. Too bad it seems that that's never happened on the show.
I’m was waiting for the seller to say HAHA NOW YOU’RE CURSED TO BE UNDEAD MUAHAHAHAHA!
That is the fastest evaluation I've ever seen.
Why not just wait and sell it at auction or at least try to get all that it is worth for it?
Everyone: if my grandfather gave it to me, I’d never sell it!
Same people give it to their grandkids:
*grandkids sell and get new car*
Mr. Brown and the Spanish fleet coin got along famously.
Now that is LUCK.
Came for 2000 dollars.
Went with 11grands
Man I don’t understand why guys wanna sell for less doesn’t make sense he could have probably got full price from a collector
"no it don't" 😂😂
“If my grandpa gave that to me, I’d never sell it.”
Yeah right haha. Half the people saying that would probably sell it when they find out its value.
Classic case of getting shafted by Rick with the even more classic "Hey it's more money than I came in with!".
"i need 18,000!"
"a bag of skittles is all i can do"
"no i need the 18,000"
"Sorry a half a glass of flavored water thats all i can do."
How much u looking for!? $2000. Rick : ok deal!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
