    • @MikaylaRoseDaly
      @MikaylaRoseDaly  3 роки тому +7

      Hi there! You go to tech school after you complete basic training. From Lackland (where basic is) they will either bus you there or fly you. Since my tech school for a public affairs was in Maryland, they dropped us off at the airport, gave us all the necessary documents like plane tickets and we flew to Maryland. There are different tech schools based on the job you get. You can find all of that on the Air Force website. Hope this helped! And thank you!!

    • @MikaylaRoseDaly
      @MikaylaRoseDaly  3 роки тому +7

      We get paid the 1st and 15th of every month. We’re salary based so even if you take leave or are on lockdown for COVID, we still get paid. We get our base pay (the pay scale can be found online) then additional money for rent, utilities, and groceries. Since I’m stationed overseas I also get extra pay called COLA.

    This is a great video! I am very interested in this career path but I am confused on how exactly you got this job? I’ve watched the full video, and you stated that you do not yet have a degree. That’s great news for me because I also do not have a degree yet in this field but I would love to gain this type of experience. Although, when I looked up requirements for the Public Affairs Specialist job you have, it does say that you need a bachelor’s degree in something along the lines of journalism or communications. How would one get this opportunity without having a degree? Can you share more details on how you landed this job and the steps within that process. Please and thank you so much!

    • @MikaylaRoseDaly
      @MikaylaRoseDaly  3 роки тому +3

      Thank you so much! When looking up jobs on the Air Force website make sure to specify enlisted jobs because if it states it’s an officer position then you will need a bachelor’s degree. Since our career field JUST merged it may not be reflected online yet, it may still say photojournalist or broadcast journalist.
      I told my recruiter I was very interested in this job and I listed it as my number one choice at MEPS. You have to select 8 jobs in order of preference and once you select a date you’re able to leave for basic, they select your job based on the availabilities for that time frame. Highly recommend talking with a recruiter and letting them know you want a job in public affairs 😌 hope this helped!

    I'm preparing to join and I grew up doing video work with my dad (he operated a local TV station in my hometown) and I've always wanted this job in the military but every recruiter from every branch has basically told me how impossible it is to land it. Is there a way to showcase your work to increase your opportunity of being offered the job?

    • @MikaylaRoseDaly
      @MikaylaRoseDaly  3 роки тому +4

      How cool! And there’s actually a need right now so I would definitely put it down regardless of what your recruiter says. I’m not sure how it is now because I enlisted in 2017 but I had to do a voice audition, and because I did well on that, it increased my chances. Also, score high on the ASVAB. Unfortunately there isn’t a way to showcase your work before but that would be really neat if people could. Hope this helped!

    • @MikaylaRoseDaly
      @MikaylaRoseDaly  3 роки тому +4

      @@heathjackson4498 i’m glad it helped! And my advice would be to get on some of the study sites like quizlet or khan academy and practice your algebra 1 and 2, as well as reading comprehension.
