    Very detailed Mark, well done. It really is a great tent you've definitely put it to the test.
    Still thinking about our camp Saturday it was definitely up there with the most fave days out... Great experience... Cheers for the dinner too 👍

      Thanks Twiggy. Yeah, it was an absolutely awesome camp mate. We got so lucky with the weather. Looking forward to seeing your video of it. It'll take a while to put mine together. Oh and I'll make sure I bring some non meat options for the meal next time. 😂

    I did like my sky Solus however do you find the vent let's water pool in the sleeve and ultimately trickle on the inner ? Tim at Slingfin was really receptive to my feedback and design mods. I think it will change in future designs. Great company.

    • @trickofthetrail
      @trickofthetrail  8 місяців тому

      Hey Andrew. Yeah, I remember you mentioning that as an issue. It's not something I've come across, at least not that I've noticed, but I will keep an eye out for it when I'm out in some rain next. I would like to the try the Solus out, as I like the smaller footprint.
      Totally agree, they seem like a great company. They've got some cracking products and it's a shame they aren't wider known, especially over here.

    Thanks! It would be good to see the technique for all-in-one pitching. A con for me would be the "cold" choice of colours. I've grown to appreciate the psychological comfort of a yellow or warm white inner.

    • @trickofthetrail
      @trickofthetrail  8 місяців тому

      Hey, thanks for watching.
      So pitching it all-in-one isn't much different actually. All you do is pre-attach the fly to the inner of the tent at all four corners and then the rest is the same. You can see this in the SlingFin pitching video here: ua-cam.com/video/PkFB-3nj7Ik/v-deo.htmlsi=Ua_YIfcH0lSS8uM_
      If there is enough interest I might do a video going through all the different pitching options, including the mesh inner and outer only.
      Re the white inner. Yes I do tend to agree on that one. However it does have the advantage of making the inside of the tent lighter when the sun starts to drop. I guess it comes down to personal preference. It would be great if they offered some different coloured inners.

      Thanks mate. I'm still learning and hoping to keep improving these videos as I gain more experience. It's difficult, especially when out on a wild camp and time isn't on my side. So glad you enjoyed it and found it useful.
      Re the prices. Can I ask what wasn't clear? Just so I can try to improve for next time.

      @@trickofthetrailI think the price was fairly clear, I don't think you mentioned additional cost of the footprint. Prices change and the answer is already on the interwebs anyway. Good video. 👍

    Awesome thorough review mate, looked nice and warm there. 😢
    You always get some really cool angles on your videos, and your editing is great.
    I remember watching you pitch that beast when we were out and even though it seemed to take ages, it looked like it could take a beating. I wonder if that circular vent is intended for hot boxing? Looks as though it would fit a stove chimney nicely.
    Nice to have so many interior pockets too!

    • @trickofthetrail
      @trickofthetrail  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks so much mate. Ha ha. Yeah, it was flipping freezing. I had to edit out all the sniffles. Took me ages. 😆
      I don't think the vent is meant for hot boxing. I can't find any details about it on their website. Although maybe it could be? I don't know enough about hot tent camping. I think it's just meant as a big vent really. If it's just me in the tent, I don't find I really need it, opening up the windows on either side of the inner seems sufficient.
      Yeah, I love a good pocket! Catch up soon mate.
      Oh, and well done on getting to 1k mate! Awesome job! 💪

    Super slinky black outfit :-)
    Looking for a good 4 season but thats above my pocket money that my mrs gives me… any recommendations ?

    • @trickofthetrail
      @trickofthetrail  8 місяців тому

      Thanks, Paul! Super slinky black outfits are always a hit, right? As for the 4-season tents, I feel your pain. Maybe you can convince the Mrs with some clever negotiation tactics or make a deal?
      What's your budget and what sort of conditions would you be heading out in? You could look at the OEX Bobcat. It's very cosy inside, but for the price seems to be a very capable tent. A friend of mine has one and he's super happy with it. Is definitely worth a look if you've got a Go Outdoors near you.

      @@JurassicRambler Ah nice, that will be great fun.
      So, whilst these aren't strictly four season tents, you could look at the Wild Country Helm Compact and the Naturehike Cloud-Up 2 (Upgrade version). I know someone who has the latter and that seems great value for money. MyLifeOutdoors did a EXTREME Wind Testing video and this tent faired very well.

    Great looking tent and very nice video.
    'Tom Heaney's nr 1 tent reg. pockets' indeed. 👌
    It seems a bit fiddly to set up but nice to see that you actually can take the ground sheet, inner and outer attached to each other and set it up in one go, if you're in heavy rain.
    As you will carry and use the groundsheet and pegs, I'd like to know the total weight. About 2,5kg? Not bad at all for what it offers in protection and living space.
    Also, I'm really curious about the difference in temperature in the morning, between the inner tent temp and outside temp, would love to know the difference. Have great times using it!

    • @trickofthetrail
      @trickofthetrail  8 місяців тому

      Hey, thanks very much. It is a cracking tent, I really like it.
      Yeah, I wish I'd mentioned the total weight in the video, I always forget bits like that when I'm filming. I'll be sure to pop them in the description though.
      So the total weight, inc footprint, 14 stakes, stuff sacks is about 2.4kg. Which isn't bad at all.
      Re the temperature. I measured it at -2 outside and inside was about 3-4 degrees. So there is around a 5-6 degree difference. I don't think it's the warmest tent inside, because it is quite spacious and the inner tent fabric isn't the thickest. However, I have never found it to be a problem. Once I'm all wrapped up I'm nice and toasty.
      Hope that helps.

    Hey really good review ! Very thorough! Could you please let me know what the shipping was like eg costs etc ? Very nice tent

    • @trickofthetrail
      @trickofthetrail  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks so much mate, I'm glad you found it useful.
      Re the import it's best to run the costs through this website: www.simplyduty.com/import-calculator/ - it will give you a good estimate of how much import duty you will have to pay.
      With regards to shipping, I paid $87.25. That was for the footprint and the tent. So all in all it wasn't cheap.
      One other option to look at, is getting the SlingFin Crossbow 2 instead. It's exactly the same tent, apart from the colours and it has a slightly tougher fly fabric. You can buy it from Apline Trek and it might work out cheaper, but it's worth weighing up the costs with importing the Stone Glacier Skyscraper. See www.alpinetrek.co.uk/slingfin-crossbow-2-r-s-4-saison-updated-2-person-tent/.
      Hope that helps.

      Yeah, it's a great tent, I really love it during the colder months. Annoyingly it is hard to find, your only option is to import it from the States, unless you go for the Slingfin version. Mark, how have you found the mesh inner/bathtub combo?
    I've been eyeing it but as the mesh seems to just drape onto the floor, I'd be concerned that a) it'd eat interior space and b) one might wake up to a tentfull of black lake district slugs.

    • @trickofthetrail
      @trickofthetrail  8 місяців тому

      I'll be totally honest mate. I've not used the mesh inner an awful amount. Hopefully I will in the future, but I usually take my X-Mid or Duplex out when the conditions are nicer. It's a great option to have though if I'm going out in higher winds.
      However, the few times I have used it, have been fine. Yes the inner does drape on the inside of the floor, but I've found that my gear normally keeps it pinned down. Also it's quite snug, so it's not loose and flapping about. So, thus far, I haven't had any issues waking up with slugs on my face. 😆
