What a wonderful human being he was. Enormously talented, woefully unappreciated for the most part. Saw him solo in Owego, NY many years back - during the show he noticed a pool table and invited a game. We had a great time playing pool and chatting with him. Genuinely beautiful guy. Got his big break singing with the Mitchell Trio with John Denver.
I miss Michael very much. I echo the fine things others have said about his character and personality as true. Many years ago I worked at a college and booked him every year. I got to know him more personally as we lived in the same area of Minnesota at the time. He was always so kind and thoughtful. It was great to see him have such nationwide success - after he moved to Nashville. God bless Michael and his family.
Michael Johnson was one of the most unsung heroes of music! He was a wonderful singer-songwriter and an incredible guitarist. He was a huge inspiration to countless artists who came up after him. And he is MISSED!
I think Michael Johnson is one of the great talents in my lifetime. His mastery of the guitar, highly unique voice and stage personality make him an outstanding talent. I agree with many here who say how we can't understand why he did not get more air time, more attention from the Execs in Nashville etc. He is one of the greats, but he is hidden from many who have missed his music. I for one, am so very glad I've found him, and I listen to his creative talent almost every day. I truly believe he is playing for God even now. Thank you Michael!! (and Cindy who keeps his memory alive at his web site!)
Michael, you left behind a library of music that will endure. You will be remembered for your silky smooth voice and the mastery of the fretboard. Rest in peace. This is one of my favorite performances of yours.
I didn't know Michael Johnson passed away. I'm very sad to hear that news. A great artist who never took his fame too seriously. He was far more talented than the credit he was given. A great clip here thanks for posting.
It's hard for me to watch Michael anymore. And if anyone has a heart, you know... Being a guy I'm not supposed to cry and that was indelibly told to me all my life. But I cry often when I see or hear this man. He left us way too early and I know he had more to say. As he said life and love is a mystery. But you now know why you had to go. And down here all we can do is miss you, and I cry again...
I missed this man💔 we always his song with my loveone who passed away 6yrs ago... and.now im all alone singing our fav song made by michael jhonson!! I missed you both deeply
Didn't know this awesome musician passed, he's great and why wasn't there information on his passing to the public, this saddens me more because it's the respect for him he was awesome we seen him in concert just him n his guitar in Michigan
Never saw him live, and now I never will. Seeing him live was on my bucket list, for some reason thinking this beautiful man would be with us and playing his beautiful music forever. Loved Michael since the early 80’s. Never understood why he didn’t get much air time on radio. RIP Michael, I’m sure you now play for the Lord.
Impeccable artistry, self-effacing wit, and always, always - a gracious presence. Michael, you have taught us much with your life. And your music lives on.
I'm so happy to have this. There are lots of videos out there, but for any MJ fans who might have had the chance to see him live, I think this will bring back some really good memories. Michael in fine form, playing and singing and being himself, and the trio is the perfect compliment.
Jack...you play one of my all time favorite bass lines in Give Me Wings. The three of you were great together. Thank you for your talents. Rest in Peace MJ.
Years back a while Michael brought Jack and Russ in for his annual Holiday concert. They ended up doing an impromptu rehearsal in my kitchen. Always remember that.
I saw this when it was first released. I was 16 yrs old & playing Guitar for just over 1 year. I was just starting to want to pursue classical studies. This performance helped open me up to songwriting, with lyrics/vocals acoustic based. It led to my first 2 albums being acoustic albums with strings & frankly helped to keep me in the right lane & take the Guitar & my studies seriously. Wonderful performance & wonderful songwriter. I've now been playing for 30yrs & making my living as a Guitarist for the last 22 yrs.
Thank you for posting this!!!! The three of them are perfect together! I had the pleasure of seeing MJ many times. Nothing like just him and his guitar. A master. RIP You are TRULY missed!
I saw him once in Helena, Montana. it was just him playing solo and he was great. I still remember him saying that he wasn't going to do one of his most requested songs, Wildfire, because he didn't know it (by Michael Martin Murphy).
Awesome Video Jack... Michael had a Great Sound. Nice to see a Clear Sound & Video from so long ago. I met you last night at "The Coach House" in California. Back when country was brimming with talented players, singers and such thoughtful songs! Thanks for sharing Michael Johnson! His music lives on.
What an awesome talent, so humble and unassuming! His legacy will live on through his music.

Just amazing playing. Even after his far too early passing, continues to be an inspiration.
Amazing.

A big show!!
Wow, cool to see MJ playing an Olson SJ steel-string guitar. They're made by his fellow Minnesotan, James Olson.
Wow!
Nice to see early Jack Sundrud
Now I won't be able to listen to Roller Coaster Run without giggling.
Just before you joined Poco, right? I'm a big fan of both Poco and Michael Johnson.
This trio was the Cat's Pajamas. Take that ride with them on the Roller Coaster and you will know why.
Michael helped make, nineteen seventy8 , a wonderful time!
Lot of hair, Jack. Great sounds. Allan
