Yes, but like a lot of the greats he gets caught up in the speed trap. He sounds much more palatable when he slows a little and leaves a few holes. Ears need time to digest and it makes what IS played more effective. Two Cents
probably why his albums didnt sell in that time -- all of it was exceptional music but it just was listenable in the sens of sit on the couch & chill -- was just too good i guess@@billyboy6028

The Gentry was at 8th st. And Pennsylvania Avenue Se Washington D.C. very near where Eastern Market metro station is now. Saw many a great show there including this one. Thanks for sharing this video!! Loved the jingle bell rock
Wow Keith Blackwell and his friends Mike Posner and John ??? Turned me onto Gatton in 1984 when we were all associated with university of Maryland one way or another. Went to my first gatton show with them 12/21/84 at the gentry. Hancock had a hissy fit and split so mikeP filled in on bass rest of night. Classic stuff. Was the last week fat boys ever played together.
For those guitarists out there that haven't seen this post (like me until like yesterday) check Out "Quiet Village" at round 1:03:00 for a lesson & a half! P.S. ==Perfect closeup cam. angles!!!), also Butch sounds great but when ya can't hear the drums....
Thanks for posting this great show. I can't believe they did Randy Newman's "I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore". Must have been a regional hit down in MD at the time.
Danny was indeed a "Telemaster". A lifetime member of a very small and exclusive club. RIP, Danny. Rest assured we're still enjoying your six-string guitar-slinging skills. Whatever it was that you did @13:35 is still a mystery to me!
A lot of that reverb is the small room. Gentry was tiny. It did not sound quite like that there. I only went there twice in 1984 but luckily had my tape deck in hand. Once for fat boys and once for Rick danko.

Danny plays with such finesse...it seems like any sound he thinks he can play, his fingers have absolutely no problem conjuring it from the fretboard.

We all know Danny Gatton was brilliant (saw him in 1990 in DC), but the singer is incredible, he's a freaking opera singer!
