Btw super knowledgeable my dude. I had learned how to EQ guitars from like 6 different sources and this video just summed up everything they taught at once. This channel is a treasure - it seems like the balance of buy-our-stuff vs. here's-some-free-info is the best I've seen on a mixing channel. And I do buy your stuff!
I’m so glad you feel that way dude. I try to cut all the fluff out and get to the point in a short time span while having fun with it! And thanks for the support

I have been recording and mixing guitar heavy oriented tracks for 15 years now. This is absolutely perfect, exactly what I have learned and applied over time. I've seen some people giving out atrocious advice on how to do this in multiple videos, forums and FB groups and we finally have a vid that condenses everything that is right.
I've been wathcing your videos for the last 3 hours. So much great contetn! It is insane.
Been following your tutorials for a while now and this, to me, is the most usefull one so far! Thank you!
I’m so glad! Everyone seems to be loving this one! I’m going to be doing more stuff like this, bare bones and extremely practical use videos

Just when I thought I had all the JST plugins I needed, you tease a new EQ. Great video man, excited to check this out.
It's been a learning curve realizing the different tone I need solo vs with a band. I like it warm when I'm by myself. However, with a band, it sounds best when I set my amp to bass at 3-4, mid 6-7, and treble 7-8. A friend who's professional and has toured and recorded a lot said he sets his amp knobs all at noon and let's the engineer mix it all through the boards. I'm old at playing but new to recording. Thanks for this!
Always great to see a new video pop up after weeks grinding the 9-5 when you were destined to a rock star! (that's the dream anyway) Always extraordinarily useful.
Great video Miami! Stoked about this plugin!
It’s gonna be a treat to use, i promise

Never have an easy time doing the EQ thing on guitars! Thanks for the lesson, Miami
Of course, Brad! Hope this helps tighten things up
-Miami
This is a well-presented content regarding eq thanks a whole lot.
Much appreciated good brother! This was super helpful!
Love your videos Miami! Thank you so much for making such a knowledgeable and informative stuff! Really awesome videos! I’m learning a lot all the time! 😀👍🔥🔥🔥
Glad you’re learning my friend! Go test the tips in this vid out and let me know if it helped!
-Miami
@@joeymusic I’m actually familiar with these tips because have been learning for 4 years and have some practice in mixing metal music. But there is much to learn anyway especially from such a wonderful UA-cam channel like Joey Sturgis one! You and Joey are doing incredible tutorials on mixing metal stuff. It’s a huge shame I cannot physically buy any of JST plugins to have in my plugins collection and to use in my mixes because of sanctions against Russia. But all of tips and tricks are always working for me from any any video! And thank you Miami for doing such a great content always enjoin watching your videos and always learning something new from you!
Love this. Ive been struggling with guitar sitting in the mix right and this helps so much. Gonna check out that guitar source guide video. Thank you Miami!
Make sure to let me know if it helps!

Amazing video, thanks Miami!!!
Thank you! Love all your videos
Extremely valuable info. Would love to see an extension of this video talking about the use of EQ before the amp, such as how it can be used to help tighten up the low end if you EQ out some of the sub bass freqs, and how you can change tonal characteristics of the amp by boosting certain frequencies before the signal goes into the amp.
I’m down to do this in the near future

Great video 💪🏾
Saw the thumbnail and thought “when did JST have an EQ? Take my money! Can’t wait to try it. I’m currently using INF EQ from slate digital.
It will be out extremely soon
-Miami
Nice and helpful as alway.. the plugs were great. I struggle with a point of reference. What I like to hear while playing guitar is different than what I need to hear to record double tracks.
I knew about 4k for awhile, didn't know about 700. Good vid. Now I have to go through all my guitar tracks and apply this. Also, I want that EQ plugin, it looks powerful.
Great information!
I love this dude
fxcking love this channel and presentation!
Absolutely perfect video. Stuff that took me years to learn. Now, the LA3A has always been a studio favorite for electric guitars. I'd love to see a video on why it became so popular on that source.
I’m gonna dive into some videos on specific compressors soon! The la3a is def a beauty for leads if you ask me!
-Miami
@@joeymusic if you do one on the LA3A, could you please include guitar examples showcasing why its a studio stable on that source along with other examples of compressors that don't really work or shine as well as the LA3A. Same could be said about other compressors that have become the go-to for certain sources. Thanks for your time Miami. Cheers
Great stuff…I think a good way to sum this up is that, like everything, the *source* should be great. The earlier you achieve “greatness”, the better…especially with something as harmonically dense as heavy guitar, which can get a little wonky under certain EQ circumstances. Of course, all of that goes out the window the moment someone sends you a murky amp track with no accompanying DI. That’s always the best.
I admit that the past few weeks I was confused between JST and JHS. I wondered who the guy in latter was, and where Miami / Joey fit in to the new picture!! Thanks for the come back
Ahh, two completely different companies
-Miami
Solid stuff Miami. Two questions for you. 1. Do you feel the target eq moves for electric guitar changes when you get more into the dropped tunings? 2. When dealing with guitar amp sims, do you dial in the amp before selecting an IR or do you find an IR you like and then dial in the amp?
It 100% moves depending on the tuning. If the ir sounds good I’ll just dial in the amp. If I can’t get it to sit tight I’ll start changing irs
-Miami
Solid vid, man. Appreciate it! :)
Thanks Jacob! I’m trying to knock out some vids that I do obviously shoulda done a while ago
-Miami
@@joeymusic pfft, you take your time, duder. You’re giving us free info/education, growing this channel, and releasing your own stuff. I’m more than satisfied, as I’ll take quality vids at a later date over content just for contents sake.
* Side note, I really enjoyed this one. As it tossed together all I’ve had to piece together on my own over years, wish I would’ve had this then, but I’m glad I have an all in one vid to check myself on and send to folks asking.
We just keep learning more and more from these videos!! Quick question: if you’re using amp sims, so you put the amp sim first in the chain, then EQ?
Yes!
Very cool video !!!
Glad you liked it! I’m gonna do a couple more guitar vids soon

GREAT VIDEO , Quick question - WHAT PLUGINS YOU SUGETST TO USE (BESIDE TUBE SCREAMER) BEFORE THE AMP/IR
TO GET BETTER HEAVY LOW TUNNING RIFFS ?
Excellent lesson! Thank you.
When it comes to FRFR, what frequencies should be focused on to give it a low tight low punch for palm muting and also sustain some pinch harmonics?
There is of course a lot of variety with tube and solid state amps by comparison, but some offer incredible low end response that you can feel without having to turn it to 11. By comparison, an FRFR right can feel more sterile when left flat on the EQ. Any tips?
There are always EQ IRs and RAW IRs in the JST conquer all packages. How's the process of applying EQ directly to an IR? Nice video as usual
Good stuff. I never find 4K to be such a huge issue as many make it for me personally. I will say however, the “Mesa whine” is definitely a thing with Mesa cabs, and it almost always 100 percent lives at about 3.1k. I find anytime I use a Mesa cab this is always a thing, and end up notching it big time with a real clean eq and real real narrow Q, like the MDW EQ6. I’m definitely not one to say “always”, but this is about as close to absolute on an eq move I’ve ever found personally. If your room is garbage, this won’t matter though because you won’t hear it.
Let’s Go Miami 🎸
Aye Misty! Thanks for the support
-Miami
I have a LOT of plug ins in my studio, Sturgis is one of the top rated here out of all of them.
I'm was surprised when i cut around 120 hertz, it just sounded way better in my mix didn't know much so i just listen for rumbling in the lower frequencies and i cut it all up to 120, sounds thin on it's own but in a full mix they sound amazing
What about pre-EQ (i.e before the ampsim?) especially for low tuned guitars?
As much as this is a great video as ALWAYS, I do think also demonstrating a guitar tone that's been reamped with a real tube amp would have been equally as helpful and would have had to be processed differently. Just so everyone can see/hear both (not everyone is using plugins.)
There is a video about this specific topic on URM academy, amp sims vs reamp !
Is that maneater by hall and oats I hear on the distorted example?
Challenge not accepted. I still use the Menace. I will be using these tricks for my next cover video. Thanks Miami!
Menace does the thing! Sadly, the lights are gone for a bit but I’ll be doing background colors again soon!

I want a stereo guitar amp&IR plugin that makes it possible to tweak doubled guitars from one plugin. It's a bit frustrating to set up an amp and an IR for one guitar and then copy it to the other guitar channel to hear the tweaks in both guitars.
S/o to you brother. You matter ♥ thank you
i don't know what it is. but when i use this eq i just keeps such a fuzzy sound on the guitars. when i use infinity eq from slate, it instant removes the fuzzyness.
Great info as usual. What price point is the new EQ going to fall into?
This hasn’t been determined but I promise one way or another it will be affordable
-Miami
Why will higher harmonics crop up when decreasing the fundamental?
Alright, now I want that EQ 😂
Coming soon!

Miami! Question for you. I've recently noticed that (like you mentioned in the video) palm muting tends to get messy. It's like a delayed "bass response" that kicks in like a second after palm muting. upon review, it looks like it's the 150-250 range that produces this issue. When I surgical eq those areas out the problem is solved, but I lose life in the tone. Any tips for bringing that low end back in a controlled, healthy manner? Specifically for parts of the tune where the guitar is isolated and playing a major role (djent etc). Thank you!
I would use multiband compression so that it doesn’t lose life in the tone. Just mess with the parameters until you feel the low end isn’t overwhelming but the guitar still has the body you seek
-Miami
@@joeymusic Thank you friend! Ima check out your compression tutorial. Priceless info! Thank you.
That EQ looks interesting! Is it something JST has in the works?
It sure is! It is coming out soon!
-Miami
if you have the luxury of micing up a cabinet, a good speaker and mic will add a nice EQ flavor to your sound on the way in :)
Quality interruptions in this vid. Miami, ask for a raise. Tell Joey the comments sent you.
Aye Samson! Hey, I’ll never turn down the chance to show love from the comments! Lol
-Miami
So when does that EQ come out?
Very very soon. Honestly, making this video has us trying to get it out faster knowing that people are waiting for it lol
-Miami
oooo gunna go watch ur compresion video brb lmao
❤
Hi i buy it but i cant see it to studio one plugin folder i activate license and install it but i cant find it
If you still are having trouble message support@joeysturgistones.com! We will get back to you asap
@@joeymusic i message the email for 3 hours but i cant fix this
I fix this Is a good eq the best for this price but i dont like the hearing mode and the l'hight and low cut are not tooo precise but the plug-in Is very intuitive
Now for the important question since no one on here has asked yet; when I can I buy that EQ lol Reminds me a lot of FabFilter Pro Q
It’s coming very soon my friend
-Miami
@@joeymusic I may cry
But, but.. we need it very VERY soon! :D ❤️
❤️❤️🤟
Appreciate the love

@@joeymusic My pleasure as always Miami!
Is IR a fancy word for a preset
IRs are impulse responses that are loaded with IR loaders, they are for guitar tones, impulse responses are a second long or shorter WAV files with a specific sound for tones
I want that EQ. I hope it's going to be cheaper than Fab filter
Oh, people are going to be very happy with the price, trust me
-Miami
yo i just boosted 200hz by 10db and it solved all my tone issues. ig you never know what helps 🤷♀️
If it works it works 🤷♂️

Sneakyyyyy
Lil bit lol

Was that demon slayer reference in the preset name?
You know it

Joey Sturgical EQ
This is a fire preset name

@@joeymusic I'm here all day
Hi Joey thanks for video. You look different
Oh good. ANOTHER "eq this way"
Video. JFC
Broooo dont even sublte drop JST EQ that's gonna fuck me up
It’s on the way fam, it’s on the way
-Miami
@@joeymusic Will there be presets for guitar/bass and what not? Like general settings that reduce those pesky frequencies so we have an easy base to adjust to our sound?
i see you have 66.6k subs and, well, it only seems fitting that my evil ass subscribes.
Challenge accepted, I can make any guitar tone sound bad just by playing the guitar.
This EQ looks like ReEq
It’s quite a bit more advanced than reeq but I used to use that one all the time
-Miami
Greatest mixer of all time CLA never low passes guitars. Never. I challenge anyone to post an example of him doing so.
If he’s using a tube screamer and mixing the cab a certain way on the way in, he may not need to so much. Most importantly, he doesn’t typically work with chugging guitars?
If CLA jumped off a bridge and survived, and said that was an important part of his journey becoming an audio engineer, would you go jump off a bridge? Hopefully you choose the right one
I guess I'm just a stupid guitarist because I'm just as confused, maybe more so, than before I watched this.
2 fingers 😂
that guitar tone sounds small and cheap
this video is really loud...
Cry about it
Looks like they didn’t MIX it right
Shut the mouth
❤
Hope you love the vid!
