One of my favorite movies. I love Cher's redemption arc, as she learns, gets below the surface and actually some things about herself and the world around her.

I guess she started to redeem herself but also, I don’t think she was bad. I don’t even know if she was that dumb, she did like to read 🤣

@@naturalnaela I agree that she wasn't dumb, just adorably clueless sometimes.

to me, clueless is just about growing up as a privileged adolescent in the modern age and learning to live less superficially; like she was clueless (ignorant and self absorbed and inconsiderate of others; also her whole thing w not earning her grades, and her caring more abt her fits than her skills for her driving test) but then the lil events of high school make her prioritize more substantial things (the whole ending of her helping run the charity relief)

It could def be as simple as that. I'm really wondering if the movie was literally making fun of Cher the entire time, instead of being on her side lol. Bc even with the charity, she's donating snow gear to them...which they didn't need🤣

Also the movie is called "Clueless" because the main character is clueless and we're supposed to realize that Cher is out of touch and says things that are wrong. By the end, she grows and becomes less self-absorbed, and that's the whole point. So yeah, she says things like "You know I don't speak Mexican." But we as viewers are definitely supposed to think, "Wow, that's not ok." Same with how she acts feminine and tries to play into gender stereotypes to attract men. Ultimately, that doesn't work. I mean, she totally misreads Christian and doesn't see that he's gay. We're supposed to think, "Wow, that's dumb." And she's supposed to learn not to be like that anymore.

Ok I was really struggling to see if there was “a point” or if it was just, “we wanted to make a movie about a rich blonde girl”
Honestly, I didn’t know movies were going that deep in the 90s so I didn’t think it was supposed to lead to that type of conclusion. I’ll have to rewatch with that POV

This is exactly right! This is the point of the movie and the perspective the audience is meant to take while watching.

Literally watching the movie (on mute, cause I've seen it multiple times and I remember all the different scenes) at the exact same time while watching and listening to your video. Comparing and contrasting your take on it to my point of view as someone from the 90s who grew up with Clueless. 😄 And yes, its the kind of movie that you need to watch multiple times to really understand it because theres a lot going on and many little subtleties to pay attention closely to that can be easily missed. Anyways, loved your video and hope you do more reviews like this about iconic movies or cult classics from the 80s and 90s. Lots of people who have seen this movie weren't really paying attention in the beginning introduction when they explained about Josh being Cher's step brother, or they end up accidentally forgetting those details by the end of the film when they end up romantically together. So thats why more people who've seen Clueless don't end up getting grossed out by that happening, because they've already forgotten or never really payed attention to the details presented in the beginning.

I have some movies like that, where I know every scene. The Wiz (the musical) and Good Burger come to mind right now. I've seen them so many times lol.
But ohhh ok I'll have to watch again. I love a movie that gives me something new, every time I watch it! I'll definitely be doing more videos like this. I know they're not my most popular but it's a series I've been thinking about pretty much since I started this channel lol so it's here to stay, as long as I have classics to watch.
I understand people forgetting that Josh is her stepbrother bc I actually almost missed it...I was like wait...didn't she say her dad was married to his mom or am I tripping lol. I did notice though that she said they were "briefly" married.

It pains me that a lot of Pop Culture is obsessed with the Step-siblings/forbidden love BS. (*side eyes Life With Derek, Cruel Intentions and SO MANY FRIGGIN ANIME SHOWS GOSH SOMEONE MAKE IT STOP-*)
Cher (to me) is proof that you can have a flawed lead and still love her. She was popular, but never mean or a bully. Dionne wasn't the stereotypical ghetto poor 'black friend", she was just as fashionable and a bit ditzy as Cher and not overly sexualized. (But I can definitely see why someone would she she's a token). Amber was an iconic frenemy, and Tai (RIP Britney Murphy) was the perfect example of how Popularity can get to someone's head sometimes ("You're a virgin who can't drive' is an insult that would make me start swinging lol. But also would that imply that Tai isn't a virgin herself? Like let's talk about it fr.. Also sidenote: the fact "You're a virgin" was/is viewed as an insult is a convo that I don't even wanna touch because I will RANT my butt off.) even though Cher's lowkey entitlement to Josh was an issue. But the way Tai and Cher makeup was so sweet.
We also have to point out that Clueless is a retelling of Jane Austen's, Emma. (Which is also *in my Joanne The Scammer voice*) ICONIC, Honestly. Truly. Both the 1996 and 2020 versions are totally worth watching!

      Hey Ara!!
      How you been? 👀
Don’t beat me up, but I love Cruel Intentions 😭😭 There is a 2 and 3 that I haven’t seen though. Idk if I consider D to quite be a token, I think she was more or less more intelligent than Cher and their dynamic did feel equal to me…but they did have her with the “wanna be hood” bf. And I say wanna be bc these kids were from Bev. Hills 💀
I think Tai mentioned that she was a virgin, if I remember correctly, but I could be misremembering that lol. We will literally both start ranting if we get into a topic of society’s views on virginity….
Emma, you say. I’ll look into it

I enjoyed your video, but just wanted to share, the step sibling thing is not about the 90s. I don’t think it was acceptable then either. It’s bc this movie is actually based on the Jane Austen novel, Emma, that she wrote in 1815.

Hey!! Thank you so much for watching! Ok, I was just so confused that no one ever mentions this when talking about this movie lol..like she ends up dating him and I never hear anyone bring that up lol
