At first I didn’t want to see you harvest that broccoli, but then I was all floret.
nice
I’ve had one sheath knife for 45 years, and though I’ve bought a few others along the way, it’s the one I always go back to. It’s just an old friend.
What I genuinely appreciate about this channel is the fact you use the knives. At the end of the day, they are tools. It's just cool to see how they work in everyday scenarios.
SpyDERco, and a Buck One Hundred and Ten. That's the enunciation and syntax this man chose.
This is a fantastically shot video! I came to see a fällkniven review, but I stayed for the joyful and honest presentation of how you use your knives. I really like the pace of this video as well
Love how active you've been, Pete. Your shitposting makes the day more bearable.
I second that motion~!
Got my first Fallkniven a few weeks ago, a TF2. Pretty new model that has hardly been reviewed by anyone yet, but I gotta say, I quite like it, and it's probably one of the best value propositions in Fallkniven's lineup.
I just got the F1 Pro Elmax and I am so happy with it.. Even with the bad sheaths - they are just so quality! something about them is bliss
Thank god you showed it next to a chicken, I was completely lost on its scale before that.
I’ve got a thing for Fallkniven knives. I have the F1, F1X, TK2, A1, NL4 Frej and NL5 Idun. The F1X is my go-to for teaching survival and pretty much everything else. I love that blade. It’s a workhorse.
Thinking about getting the TK2, what is your thoughts on it?
@@GoodBoy-rf7tp I have a TK2. It is a fantastic knife. The ergonomics are great, and the edge geometry is thin. The 3G steel is HARD. It holds an edge really well, just don’t let it get dull.
@@MichaelTravis12c27 Thank you for response. Sounds great! You do not think the tip is weak or anything? There aren't really any reviews out on it but on the videos I've seen the blade looks almost razorblade thin toward the front, but I have a feeling that is basically an optical illusion or something because of the false edge on top.
Not that I plan on batoning a bunch of logs or anything but I also wouldn't like the tip to break off when I am carving a spoon :D
@@GoodBoy-rf7tp the tip is definitely thin. I wouldn’t suggest prying with it! I suppose you could do mild batoning and I don’t think normal carving would pose any problems. I’ve had no issues with mine.
Didn't know Fallkniven was made in Japan but never owned one, no wonder they are so good. Looks like you have settled into the farming role quite comfortably. Amazing skill the way you bounced that knife off of the tree so many times in a row ! It stuck once but nobody is perfect.
In awe of your gymnastic abilities!
Garden and project updates are an added bonus. Thanks Pete👍🏻
I swear brother, you've got the best music ive ever heard in any knife review channel. Keep it up man 👍
Play persona 5 brother
Tell the truth Pete...when you were cutting that rubber matting, were you thinking "why did I throw this knife against that palm tree so many times?" Cool cat porch!
I have an f1x and a tf1, both in COS. If I have to choose functionality over form, and dependent on the task, I'm going choose something with a simple carbon steel, o1, o2, a2, 3v, 13c26n/14c28n, or magnacut before I ever reach for vg10 or cos. This means for working knives BRK, WRK, BHK, lt wright, bradford, and mora all get the nod before fallkniven.
Best Persona music channel on youtube
Why does Basil live outside now? Also keep up the content amigo. Would love to see your thoughts on a Bk 16.
It’s a catio, there is a tunnel between the house and the cat area 😊 let’s the cats go outside to eat and poop but it’s all enclosed.
I figured it was a pass-through so he could live inside and enjoy outside without being exposed to danger. Lots of critters in Australia that are not the cuddly type.
Was about to ask, my cats are outside inside but since it's Australia..
11:00 There we go, I was waiting for it!
Your videos were ultimately the reason why I pushed my pride aside, and finally shelled out the dough for a Fallkniven S1 (I had been debating it for nearly 4 years). Don’t you dare convince me to convince myself to buy this one. For I fear that the consequences for my bank account will be hitherto undreamt of.
I continually come back to my benchmade 200 Puukko. I fanboy over 3v, admittedly, and the handle is amazing. It’s my one knife that I won’t ever give up.
really love this channel keep up the good work x
Mate your garden is coming along.. awesome!
Outstanding video pete, thanks for sharing. Keep up the great work!
Nice review. Stunt work is on point!
Slow mo chicken feedin'
very good Sir
Great video & Excellent editing
How's your right shoulder? Hopefully you've given it some time to heal from all the edge retention testing TO THE EXTREME~!
The chicken should be a staple in size comparisons
Absolutely love the look of this knife. To me its the perfect companion knife.
Where can I buy one
Hey Pete, I was the person you recommended you get your khukuri, I’m glad you found a use for it even if you don’t like the handle. By the way, why not just file the raised section off?
my ad dp40 in s45vn comin soon. cant wait.
Awesome! Much of a wait time?
Excellent
Pete is becoming a legit Homesteader and I like it. Next, he`s gonna hang some new Axe Handles and BAM HE`S WRANGLERSTAR
great video !
Thanks Cedric. I like your videos man!
After watching you, I think I will need one to go with my small collection of about 20 knives, Coldsteel, Fallkniven, and Bark River. I wanted a coldsteel master hunter 3V because the VG1 was a perfect size but I wanted a better steel. This F1 Pro is even more of a beast with the COS steel and much tougher built. I may even consider the F1x also.
Not gonna Lie master hunter cpm 3v is the most perfect knive out there. Its so faking good that its boring.
Its outpreform all my fallkniven, barkriver or buck knives.
The foodprep is Wild due its so thin y’et i never broke it and in hard on my knives
Chicken for scale is a very cute addition!
A "Best of Both World" situation, you say?
Mr. Worf... fire.
I love my s1 Pro! Need an f1
Thanks for staying original and making the videos you enjoy making. Was curious if you were going to do a steel test on the spyderco cpm spy 27? Didn’t see it in the steel spreadsheet and thought I’d ask. Keep up the great videos Pete.
just need to source a blade in it - was probably gonna do the para 3 lw in it
Came for the knife, stayed for the Persona music
Great interplanting. Didn't know that you had a green thumb. I have the F1, but nor the pro F1. I can see where the swedge and point would be useful.
For me, the Fällkniven S1x might be the best allround production knife you can buy. I like the F1x too, but it just feels a little bit too short sometimes.
@@MrJedi5150 Sorry for the ridiculously late reply. I find the S1X to be perfectly balanced for an all around knife. It balances exactly where my index finger goes, right behind the finger guard. You might of course have a different preference. Would you like it to be more blade or handle heavy?
i was just stumbling on this video and coincidently am right now playing persona 5 royal and the music just hit me and i was all on board watching this video up until the very last second...
How do you think that compares to the Bark River Bravo 1 ???? id be interested
Hey mate.... the cold steel master Hunter looks very similar to those... I have had a master hunter in VG 1... it has been through hell n back... I used it extensively when I lived in the Kimberleys catching, farming, and working with crocs.. it's been taped to the end of a long stick to cut the top jaw rope from large crocs.. it was my edc on the croc farm.. damn good knife.. how do those blades you show stack up against the master hunters???
in my opinion master hunter is even better, and normally priced, theyre probably made in same factory in Japan...master hunter san mai is excellent.Fallknivens are overpriced in my opinion .
@@bobiiischmidt7594 No. They are not made in the same factory. Do research instead of guessing. Your opinion means nothing.
i was wondering if you could do a video on ATS-34 steel. i heard that it can be polished to a mirror better than most steels, but it has long be passed in the marketplace
ATS34 is 154CM by Hitachi. The results should mirror 154cm with obvious heat treat differences from brand to brand to be factored in
@@CedricAda ahh i see, thanks for that tho i had no idea, makes sense though since i think benchmade used to use it a lot
I've got a Benchmade AFCK in ATS-34 that I still like to carry. I don't really need a better knife steel than that.
Hey mate, should i upgrade my (f1x cos) to an (f1x elmax) ? I am really tired of looking for info about this issue, and I think you are the king of knifes, and any answer from you I’ll take it blindly 😎 thank you mate👍😘
I prefer the full height convex grind on regular F1 and I've had absolutely no problems with VG10. Used several times on wood. No edge loss, no chipping, no rolling.
Between the Fallkniven F1 pro elmax and the Fallkniven R2 scout, which one is better?
Great video Pete! How do you feel about the pro vs the lionsteel m4? Still worth the money over it?
If you could have the traditional style in COS would you prefer it, or do you like the shape changes?
Nice garden
What are you rubbing into those tool handles? Assume it's an oil if some sort but I've never seen that done before nor have I thought about doing it.
Tung oil, good stuff
@@CedricAda Gotta tung that shaft.
@@CedricAda thanks man! Keep up the good stuff.
We call that stuff horse stall matting, very tough stuff!
I'd love to have a garden like that. The only thing that grows good around here is POT ;)
I find little practical use for thick knives. Generally they are heavier and don't cut as well That being said, they are fun to play with. I love my F1.
They have an F1X model now, how would you compare it vs the F1 pro? They seem to be quite similar but a new sheath system and removable scales.
This model would be a perfect knife if it weren't for one important fact. It has a partial cut, just like the X version. It would be better if this model had a full convex cut, like the regular F1, and differed only in the addition of a steel handguard. This crossguard is so cool that in a regular F1, the plastic crossguard can break off after prolonged use.
Generally, both the Pro and X versions are small "crowbars", they are too thick and split better than they cut. For me, the ideal would be a knife with a blade like the KK model (Kolt Knife), i.e. 3.8 mm thick, fully convex, but longer than the KK blade - up to 12 cm.
My VG10 F1 was also my first proper knife, but I dropped the tip on concrete and a huge chunk of the tip broke off. It was a sad day.
I have an S1x which is nice for lots of stuff but I can't seem to make up my mind on F1 pro or lion steel m3 90.
For your big knife needs you should snag a cheep Tramontina 12" machete. Best $15 I have ever spent.
What are your thoughts on the f1x?
Would like to hear your opinion on these two
Compared to the f1x.
Have you tried the elmax version yet?
Great content Pete👍
When we can expect another Uncle Randy episode? :)
Pete - So many knives! Please share your storage/display techniques.
The Shelf.
Damn good knife.
What exactly is a companion knife? Best I can google so far is that it's a backup for a main knife? I wouldn't have thought to carry two.
a belt knife thats unobtrusive enough to carry on a day to day basis
^^^^that^^^^^ Also2 more things.
1.) when you're hunting, and you get a large animal with a thick hide, from what I understand you use two knives. the first knife is big and gets dirty, the second knife is smaller and is always kept extra clean. So once you use the first knife to cut the hide, it gets dirty and a lot duller. you then use the second knife to prevent any dirt or anything from getting the stuff you're going to eat dirty. The second knife used is the companion knife. The second knife should be a smaller plus more slicey in order to be able maneuverable in the hand as well as to be as frictionless as possible when cutting to prevent injuring the stuff you're going to eat I guess from what I hear.
The first knife is larger in size and used for making cuts on the hide because it will make the knife dull quickly since the hide is usually so tough and covered in dirt or whatever the bear what hanging out in.
1.) most people I know usually have two hands. SO if you do have two hands you could hold one knife in one hand, and then hold the other knife in the other! then you can slice twice as efficiently as before hahaha no but seriously if your dominant hand is full and you need to cut something like a plastic wire, you just use your non-dominant hand and BAM no waste of time. it happens
Dammit. I can’t remember what that song is from. Please advise!
persona 5 tokyo daylight :)
@@CedricAda I must be confused. Reminded me so much of some old psx game. Maybe something from namco, or a demo disk. Cool anyway. Always the best knife review music on UA-cam.
Is the Lionsteel T5 a knife you still recommend?
definitely, i regret parting with mine
The F1 in 3G always comes camping with me
Odd, after your Lionsteel M4 review :)
Why is your cat in a cage? Predators?
wow huge ..... lovely fried
Have a lot of convex knives. But mostly take my f1 pro.
Hello Cedric, will you test magnacut??
I will, I am currently sourcing a knife in this material
It is a me thing. It is good. Not the best but good. Very fair review.
You have your Beautiful Opinel Hook knife! Why not give that a try when havesting your Crops!
Is that a Persona 5 song I hear in the intro? 👍 I guess it fits the Japanese made Fallknivens. Do you generally also prefer carbon in the Fallkniven s1 and a1 sized knives?
I prefer the blade shape on the chicken.
Well that's some new news to me, I thought Fallkniven just used japanese steel but made in Sweden, and obviously "designed" in Sweden. Guess they just contracted out manufacturing in Japan.
There's an elmax one now. Interesting.
The infamous water bottle returns: Part 2 Season 2
You should ask the DBK boys if you can borrow their NL5 in Cowry X
I can't hold it back any longer. Over the years I have heard so many people on UA-cam refer to this knife company as Falk Niven. It is spelled Fallkniven, so why is it not pronounced Fall Kniven with a silent K? Think Morakniv. You don't pronounce that as Morak Niv. I am most likely wrong in my thinking but it drives me a wee bit crazy every time I hear someone say Falk Niven.
Looks to be a well made practical knife in a manageable size. I do however find them to be a little too rich for my budget as compared to the knives I own & use almost daily. Sorry for the rant. I always look forward to new videos from you as I have been since about 2012 or 2013 whenever it was that you still had less than 1000 subs. Cheers from Canada. It was a little strange to see your lush garden. We are just starting spring but still feeling the cold of winter.
Late reply, but why not.
In Swedish it’s Fällkniven, with an ”Ä” and you should pronounce it Fell-Knee-ven. The “k” is NOT silent.
Fällkniven means ”(The) Folding Knife”
In Swedish disambiguation is not used when putting words together so Fäll and Kniv becomes ”Fällkniv”.
Bolster I think, instead of guard.
Just imagine that quality in a knife that would be thinner and a little
smaller than the F1 pro, sort of a gentleman's folder but fixed blade ...the
aesthetics of a crkt ceo but the Fallkniven build quality and some really
suitable steel to fit the task. I have yet to find my perfect edc.
After all the knives I have bought, only ever do I sometimes use the H1
Fallkniven in the garden and around the house, but usually just an old
de-boning chef's knife for cooking and harvesting. Some antique french carbon
steel pocketknife is my edc, a knife that is sporting a blade that makes
apples taste like shit even if you polish it before using and it
doesn't fully close any more... but boy does it sharpen up well.
Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, I love the
looks of the crkt ceo but I don't trust its quality.
My favourite edc knife used to be a simple Laguiole pocket knife, but
that got stolen. Another thing: I loathe the looks of spider co, I'm of the opinion that this should not matter to me since the quality is usually good, but it does, I hate it too much to ever buy one. So if it looks plain yet elegant, that would be awesome.
Bud you do know for $12 us you can buy a carpet knife that would cut much cleaner right or $8 us atleast a utility knife it's all about right tool for right job .
I almost would have bet you would have went with the original F1’s thinner geometry over the COS Pro...
Really like your knowledge around these blades but that stropping technique needs some work my friend!
Jesus. Is that was broccoli looks like in the wild? Additional: what would the edge retention be if Spyderco made a PM2 out of palm tree?!?
Id rather buy mora robust or regular mora or srk instead of these knives,i have f1 and moras...and dont see much difference in performance if at all.Way overpriced for what they are!ps.Fallknivens have reputation for breaking ,and i actually know pple that broke tip or chipped one doing normal bushcraft stuff.Keep up good work, all the best!
Why are fallknivens overpriced? explain.
@@LXT43 well you can get materials and workmanship of the same or higher quality for less money
Nice throwing bin. Fuck I hate palm trees too.
This video makes me sad. I was going to buy myself one of these for my birthday last year but then Covid happened and everything went to shit and there was no expendable Fallkniven money anymore. Ah well one day.
one day good buddy
fallkniven money is definitely in low supply all round lately
What were those cats in jail for? 🐱
currently $431 at the Knife shop. You can get a Cold Steel Master Hunter in 3V for $199.99 from Cleavers. I know where I'll go, Falkniven are way overpriced and do not offer anything extra for the money, remembering Falkniven used to work for Cold Steel and many of their designs are direct copies of CS designs. Every time you buy a Falkniven you can get a Cold Steel that is as good for less money.
Why is Basil in jail?
- correction: Gaol
heh, we had a run attached to the side of the house with a port through to the inside, so their litter and food is outside
@@CedricAda oh that’s a nice system, I thought he must have killed one to many native animals
I'd never pay that money for a rubber handle knife
The rubber handle is one of the things that make it great. Comfort, grip and less slip.
I think the F1 is the best production belt knife you can get. If I want something better I have to move into customs.
If I could a F1 in 1/8” 4V @ 63 I’d never need another knife (I like thin and hard steels over thick and soft).
