Beau is a fairly common name for men in the South, Texas and Louisiana. Sometimes short for Beauregard.

I just came from another of your videos about your trip to Quebec city. 😊 I don't know the international phonetic alphabet, but if you google "Canadian English pronunciation of Montreal" (without the accent on the e of Montreal, which is an important detail) you will get the correct pronunciation of how the local anglophone population says it. 😊 Oddly, that widget Google offers has American vs British variations of the pronunciation... locals use the American version which I guess makes sense, geographically. No Canadian would want to be thought of as American, though!

I traveled to Montreal a couple of times years ago making deliveries as I was a truck driver and I couldn't speak a word of French. I called to get directions, but as I said I couldn't speak French so I simply compared the words on the map and drew out my route of travel that way. LOL What an experience. The restaurant footage was fantastic. We had a restaurant here in Pittsburgh that was on the 62nd floor of a building. I was there a couple times, and the view was spectacular. It appeared in a few Hollywood movies, but unfortunately it's closed now.

It's strange the way we English-speaking Montrealers (we 'Anglos') say the name of our city: Munn Tree ALL. (
Hi Marie!! 🤗 What a fun and full video diary you've given us here - WOW! I love that you had a relaxed start Monday, and then actually had a GOOD visit to a Post Office, for a change 😂- Yay! You even had a helpful employee while you were there. If I traveled by myself, I am not sure I would ever decide what to do each day 😲😂, and you did great! Nature was calling you that day, and you even had a helpful Uber driver, who then sent you to Ciel. I have only been on one rotating tower restaurant in San Antonio, TX, and you really took some amazing panoramic videos from floor #28 😮🤗 during the 90 minute rotation, and I love your favorite one across the water, the beautiful downtown skyline, and even with the greenery to the right 🥰. That bread did look good Marie, and a place like that usually requires reservations. Awhhhhh, I love that first cute seal you captured, and the white bears (one with his huge paw covering his eyes) were very cool!! And you knew the jellyfish would be fascinating, with colors and music, as you said, it was like another world experience ❣ You know, $22.50 is not at all bad for your fabulous tour that you show next!! The running stream over the rocks showed the natural setting they maintained in this aquarium - so nice. And that seal (?) swimming upside down, totally relaxed was cool. And was that a white wolf - wow!! Then we saw such cool fish and the very colorful octopus (pink, red, white), followed by a wild-colored, almost "winged" fish looking at us 😊😲. Those little critters peering out from under the sand were SO cute, and then we saw the orange/white fish feeding and then the manta ray gliding by. And what in the world was that black fish lined in the middle with white specks - WOW !??? The red ones with white whiskers went by and let us see that interesting fish with a gaping open mouth that never closed 😵❗And here they come, Marie, those other worldly jellyfish that were so beautiful and colorful, some with white-tipped tentacles. Holy cow, Marie, that red one had the longest tentacles I have every seen in my life 😮😮! I love all the seahorses, with colors and varieties I have also never seen - that is sooo interesting Marie! (I like the yellow plants too) And the the Pieuevre = Octopus you found - so cool, and you even showed us a very "Wise" Owl 😄😉. I'm glad you were able to talk to that knowledgeable and friendly girl, who explained that they began as a research center (so fun to know that)! You showed those cool white, black, and grey manta rays (petting them), and you even got to pet a beautiful coral-color starfish 🥰. It is nice to see they have gotten to where they are focused on the animals themselves, the fish, and the flora and fauna at this point! AND, you love no crowds, even getting 2 tours - so cool, I love that for you ❤! (Your sandwich DID look very good!) So Marie chose to walk back and it paid off with the gorgeous, perfect for Marie Red Mustang 🥰🥰!!! AND, following that, you actually found your RUSH beers at the liquor store (and "Moving Pitchers" for the 40th Moving Pictures Album). The rain came, along with a swollen ankle (I'm so sorry Marie 😥😥) , causing you to try out the easy to ride buses in Quebec. I LOVE your notebook - SO pretty, and SO useful, and also SO valuable for us to hear what you saw ❤. We all need a rest day Marie, and you deserved one (and the nap)! That pizza looked great! Then came the Wednesday train experience to Montreal. I LOVE how you say Montreal Marie ❣ Shopping for the sweater was nice for you, and so was your Newfoundland, favorite dog "Beau" (beautiful coloring) with the sweet Florida couple!! (Marie is never annoying, just loving and petting her favorite dog! - they did not mind 😉) You got to have an interesting talk with the guy working in the street, and what do you know, it SNOWS in MAY 😮🤗 - you needed the sweater now for sure 😂! I had no idea the luggage worked the same on Rail Canada trains as airplanes, but you got your window seat and refreshments brought TO you! You saw some lovely vistas from the train, including the beautiful cityscape across the water. Wow, you even caught the Blue Jays, and WOW - you actually spotted Geddy Lee (musician and vocalist for RUSH - the same day you found RUSH beer 😂🤗!). Marie, the haters will go on hating, and the complainers will always complain, and we can do nothing about it!! Nobody can please everyone, so please ignore those folks!! They truly, honestly show their complete ignorance and meanness when they fail to realize what a lovely, wonderful, amazing treasure you are 🥰🥰, and that is their LOSS ! I adore hearing your English AND French AND Spanish AND Japanese AND any language Marie has amazingly learned (probably more coming!) ❤❤❣ (P.S. I love your timelines and your Chapters for the video!) I'm sorry I was so long, but you gave us so many wonderful gifts to enjoy here - THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH MARIE 🤗😇! I came to Canada years ago from England and have always been fascinated by the fact that English and French Canada get along side by side and the difference in language. I also was told that the French language spoken in Quebec is from a very old type of French, and I believe your father also explained that to you. Please do not take silly comments to heart. You are doing a great job and absolutely I am enjoying your tour very much. I am a senior now and have travelled a great deal in the past. I am unable to travel now, and so I enjoy watching you, and your commentary.

Your english is very good. If you can't recall a word in english from time to time so what? It's not important, you do a great job getting your story told. Other french people I've met have been much, much more difficult to understand. Happy birthday too!
We have a post office problem in the USA, too. In the past three years, I have had 3 packages that were lost in the mail.
They loose almost half of mine and forge tracking scans to falsify on time delivery statistics. Most of the issue is at the final office superviser and delivery carrier level.
I've caught them doing it because I'm home most of the time and the scan time doesn't match the route time; They also have several supervisors so I can piece together the the different information they each give me, and occationally I exchange misdelivered packages with other people up to a mile away. The inspector general just passes the buck when I file formal complaints and won't investigate because they don't consider supervisors telling employees to falsify documents to be fraud.

Montreal is pronounced in English with 3 syllables, and the accent on the 3rd. Mon-tray-ALL. But saying it in French is certainly more beautiful !! 😃 I'm truly sorry about the weird comments you get - hopefully, it's not very many. You do an OUTSTANDING job speaking in English. Of course you need more practice - it's a difficult language (so many of our own citizens don't even speak English properly! haha) And the comparison thing (wtf?). Really, it's totally ok to have preferences and to make comparisons with similar things! You don't ever say something is "better" and mean that the other is somehow "bad". Absolutely wonderful video. I didn't know that the Aquarium was that big and amazing. I see that a lot of commenters have given you pronunciations of 'Mount Royal' 😁 in English, but your pronunciation is just fine, and perfectly understandable by any English Canadian.😊
As for the snow🤔. I have seen it snow in the middle of June, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Granted, that was back in 1971, but it stayed for about 3 days. So a little flurry, is just the Canadian weather, trying to make your visit, more interesting.🌨😉

Sometimes take Via Rail between Toronto and Windsor, depending on the purpose of the trip. 🛤️
In Canada you can't just look at the average, you also need to look at the possible range of temperatures. Depending on the time of year, you can experience three seasons in one day (winter, spring & summer; spring, summer & fall; summer, fall and winter; fall, winter & spring). As Canada has very much a continental climate that is not moderated by the Atlantic Ocean as in western Europe, we can have large variations in temperature in one day or from day to day.

i dont know if you knew this but you can get two year visa to live in Canada i think its called a working holiday visa. where you are young you may want to consider looking into this and getting to really get to see Canada.

Marie, this video was hilarious! Those of us who've traveled the world have all run into the differences and the way things are said or pronounced. Being American, I get the "eye roll" more often than not when it comes to how I say things, but it comes with the territory. I'd annoy those folks in Montreal, because I pronounce it "Mon-tree-all". Of course, when I was lost in France, I said the city name "Nice" as the English word "nice" and of course, all the French folks looked at me like I was crazy. As I said, it comes with the territory.
I loved that you got a chance to go see the aquarium. It's such a fun place to see, regardless of where in the world you are. If you want a truly amazing experience, scope out Hilton's Conrad Rangali Island Resort (Maldives). Their underwater rooms are on my bucket list, and a MUST for any aquarium lover.

Anglophones usually pronounce the name as "Mawn-tree-ALL"... emphasis on the last syllable. As in an old rhyme we had when I was a kid "Not too big, not too small, just the size of Montreal"!
Now for the pronounciation of Montréal in english... try (Mount, Ree, All)... LOL! instead of (mount, real).. and you'll be well off all 'round' Since it was " Mount Royal" french for "Royal Mount" Roy All" Love ya and may you live you're outmost awesome life.... Ottawa=Ah tuh wuh. Canada's Washington, D.C. Gatineau, Qc. is on the opposite bank of the Ottawa River. I could really here the distinct difference between the Quebecois accent and yours when speaking French. Cool. What an amazing solo trip to two of my favorite cities.

Allo! To help you with the pronunciation of Lévis, let's see if I can help. I'm a french Canadian from Montréal who went to English school all his life. So... Bilingual. First, in Quebec french, we do NOT pronounce the S at the end. As for the English pronunciation, you may be surprised that even the English around here mostly pronounce it with the same French sound. I would say to any English person, it's pronounced LAY-VEE, but not too much accent on the "Y". Hope that helps

I speak good Quebec French. During my many times in France speaking with French people I've sometimes found it easier to speak English than Quebec French. Other times there's been little to no difference between Quebec French and Parisian French. C'est la vie.
It may depend which part of France.

The American way of saying "Montreal" is "Mawn-Tree-awlh". ("aw" being the best way I can think of to write a long "a" sound)
Although- I do like the sound of "Mont Reelh"- even if it's not right. With Newfoundlands, you almost had it, it's New F*ou*nd Land. Although I think we get a little lazy and more or less say New Finnland.
Personally, it makes me smile hearing you stumble over English and then correcting yourself in editing. Don't let haters get you down, you're learning a new language for goodness sake! You know it well enough to make youtube videos. I'd say that's pretty good! :)

You experienced Quebec & Montreal in May. Wait until you need to do anything outside in January or February... It will be a different story. My family is from North Dakota, USA. Not so pleasant in Winter for tourists. If you're local, you're prepared for it. A bit like Siberian weather. It's fine if you're prepared and with a fun local👍❤

Great that you got to experience some Canadian sporting culture with the Blue Jays game. There used to be baseball in Montreal too: first the Montreal Royals (founded in 1897) and then the Montreal Expos (founded in 1968) but unfortunately Montreal is currently without a team.
We have the Expos in Washington; they are now the Nationals. I did find it curious that in one of her older videos, Marie was wearing a Nationals cap which also you will see in the cartoon that opens this video. When I lived in Montréal, the Expos were still there, so I went to see them frequently. I knew all of the terms in French because as a child, I had a nanny from Louisiana for several years. She taught me French. We used to watch the Red Sox games together, so she taught me all of the French baseball words that they used in Louisiana.
The first time that I went, I told my neighbours: «Eje vais à garder une partie à pelote». They started to laugh which made me remember that «pelote» has a different meaning in Louisiana than it does in Canada. It is an archaic French word for "ball". This is what it means in Louisiana. It means something vulgar in Canada. I can remember chuckling when the Canadians called «les maringouins» and «les brulots» «bibittes». In Louisiana, you call those «bêtailles» as «bibitte». has a vulgar meaning in Louisiana.
Both of the Florida teams want to move. The Tampa team even wants to move to Montréal. As I understand it, your Conseil Municipal wants a baseball team but your Bourgmaîtrasse does not.
It's okay to compare. Everyone does it. People who complain about comparing have simply never traveled. Keep enjoying your travels! Also, yes, you're very clearly French, but again, many haven't experienced much in their lives so they can't tell.
By the way, "Réal" is a name here and it's pronounced as you'd expect. Just imagine it's Réal's mountain. Mont Réal. In English, it'd be: Mawn (Lawn with an M) - Tray - All ("tout" en Anglais)
as a small remark, the french prononciation stayed the same as the one we had in 1700 when the french king decided to let go of the colonies. also called old french.

The proper way would be more towards your pronunciation for Montreal, but Americans say Mon Tree all. I am sure the natives would tell you your pronunciation was closer. Toronto was once called York and Montreal began as Marie. Montreal is energetic, artistic, creative, vibrant and more accepting of other cultures. You are as likely to see a Mariachi performer or a Chinese musician as a French folk singer in Mont Royal Park. Cirque de soleil is headquartered in Montreal. Did you see The Habitat? Best bagels otutside NYC in Montreal.

I'm gonna have to agree that the way you pronounce "Montreal" is cute. Being from Kansas, we say "Mon-tree-all" so I'm curious if that's actually correct lol.

Great video, you speak English really well, you must've studied for a while. I've always wanted to go to France but I'm so self conscious with my ability in French and like you I've heard things about how people in France may not be too friendly to people who won't speak French well.

"mon-tree-yall" is how I (American) pronounce it. I like that you pronounce it in French though! I have no problem believing that you're French, Marie. It seems obvious to me!
That's a pretty good phonetic breakdown of how most Americans would say it. I was going to offer up "Mont-ree-ALL" (with the emphasis on the last syllable), but that's pretty close to yours. We 'Murkins' do have a penchant for putting our own spin on words from other languages. 🙂

More on pronunciation: We used to live in Burlington, Vermont which is just a few hours drive from Mon-tree-all in south of the border speak. We wanted to go to the IKEA near Montreal. We knew we were close but still a little lost so we asked someone where the Eye-key-ah store was. The person was a little befuddled, then said, “Oh, you mean Ee-kay-ah.😁
