Hearing Hunter's speaking patterns and mannerisms, you really can appreciate how spot on Depp was.
Bill Murray did pretty damn good job too!!!
they lived together for like a year
I thought the very same!! Depp nailed it!! Benicio's character Dr. Gonzo was awesome too!

@@gitsome2584 what? I thought he said it was wayyyyy longer than that. Either way he had plenty of time to completely nail his mannerisms

I can not wrap my head around the fact that he is on so much drugs it would kill a regular person but yet he is articulate and can keep it together surprisingly well
Is he still alive? And what are the drugs for?
It can be argued that the drugs did kill him.

When you start seeing glimpses of Johnny in Hunter it shows how freaking good of a job he did playing him.

Hunters favorite take with Depp would have been a million times better. I'm confused to why Gilliam scrapped it. That was what Hunter would've done to see his younger self without a doubt.
It was in there.
It actually pisses me off that they didn’t pick Hunters favorite scene. It was much better than the scene in the original movie in my opinion
I agree. Makes me dislike Terry Gilliam. Apparently they didn't get along on set either. He might make some interesting films but he seems like a dick
@Box Jabber I agree with you, with the scene they used in the movie, in my opinion, it comes across as a sort of hallicination.
@Box Jabber agreed!
@@Nantosuelta this may be true. However, it is my opinion that succeeding in a way that Gilliam does means having a vision for your art, being confident in your vision and sticking to it. Says: not a professional artist. ✌️
how could u not pick his favorite scene when the whole movie is his literally his material lol
if hunter was still around he would have loved marijuana concentrates
Pretty sure those were around in his time lol
Hashish, Hash oil and extracts existed as far back as the 70s, they just weren't common. It takes a lot of work to process marijuana into concentrates, which is even harder when it was all illegal. Packing the plant into bricks was a much more economic option
Not to mention weed wasn’t very strong in the 70’s
Brandon yeah the strongest they probably had was mids to us.
they def had lab style weed back then.. dont be ignorant to think good weed didnt exist back then.. it did, just hush hush and not on the commercial levels of today.. if it existed back then you better believe he probably tried it.
The take Hunter wanted was actually incredible. What a loss it was not having it in the movie.
Stupid Gilliam probably having an ego trip and wanting to "maintain control over the project" or something similar. The take Hunter wanted was honestly much better and more poignant. I see it as old Hunter trying in vain to return to his lost youth and anonymity. Being young and lost in the crowd. He lamented about his fame saying "I used to be able to be in the background and cover the story, now I'm part of the story." Honestly lost respect for Gilliam after this. Should have honored Thompsons wishes and used the take that he preferred. The whole thing is based on his work after all.
When Johnny Depp puts the mask on and Hunter says "Holy fuck" I lost it

I humbly disagree Hunter. You were right there in the middle of the madness, a part of it.
As time goes by the more overrated Thompson gets.
@@chrisconley8583 I mean, yeah. People don't really know his work and his fanbase has become dominated by edgy/artsy teens and tryhards who would drool over anything that had to do with drugs. These days you'll catch people who own the book yet have only seen the movie and haven't given any of Hunter's other works a try. He's essentially become to drug culture what Sid Vicious was to punk.
@@edadick6640 Sid Vicious was a dumbass that was extremely emotionally immature. The lifestyle ate him alive.
Today I looked up what college he got his "doctorate" from, and it turns out he's a high school drop out =). Still one of the greatest American minds of all time. RIP
He got the title from the Universal Life Church in the sixties.
He wasn't allowed to "graduate" with his class; to do the whole ceremony. Also, he attended college courses in Florida, while in the Air Force.
Why wasn't he allowed to graduate Justin?
he couldnt graduate because he was in custody or prison.
johnnypk1963 Aye, trumped up charges. If The good doctor had carried through on ever threat he made we would all be dead lol.
Love that they showed the flashback scene. When Duke turns around in the film and sees himself, he goes, "Holy shit, that's me!" (and in a way, it actually is), I laugh out loud every time.
Good lord - Hunter S. Thompson, Jonny Depp, Terry Gilliam, and Harry Dean Stanton - this video is a treasure! Thanks so much for sharing
Yeah it's amazing. I wish there was more footage from the filming of the film.
No love for Benicio del Toro?
These people are overpaid degenerates. I pity you
Harry was best friends with David Lynch too. Hollywood didn’t deserve these gems.
Lyle Lovett too.
I agree with Hunter, the take of him swatting at Johnny Depp would have been much better in the film.

I love it - I'm having the same reaction when a car passes by, honking - I hate it
nah best to just let the honkers honk not let it affect your state
Ben’s Art - you’ve obviously never lived in Vietnam (where, it’s a huge understatement, saying that ‘horns are overused’), rode a bike there and have your eardrums blown away by a trucks horn, because they’re just a little too impatient on red traffic lights...if that doesn’t affect your state, you must be either already deaf or a potato sitting on the side of the road, which fell of a truck!
I'm a creep not Vietnam but I did live in India for 3 months so I have experienced many honks 😊 I meditate and practise yoga which helps my state of mind from over reacting to external stimuli, like hunter did here, but he’s older here and older people are known to be highly irritable, also excessive drug use increases irritability, paranoia, etc, But love me some Hunter 👏🏻🤙🏻
LOL at Johnny running away from Juliet and her being none the wiser, coming in for wardrobe. It must have been fun for Johnny to have his mate Hunter around that day and be able to play around saying "its Juliet shes coming for you, im running away".

Wow, man. Hunter Thompson, Terry Gilliam, Johnny Depp, and Harry Dean Stanton just chilling out on set. That's freakin crazy...
Creativity in it's rawest unaltered form forces the consciousness to ask " I did that? For God's sake it's awful. " The madness of all life as it lives on this rock. He knew this. A great artist.
A highpowered mutant , Layered with incredible depths of insight, and wisdom, the good Doctor. Fun, whisky, and driving fast, on old dusty roads, with endless mind altering substances, and good genuine people.
Harry Dean Stanton and Hunter S. Thompson - man, that really is a friendship of true epic dynamics.
What an absolute character...
It is such a treat to see this.Thank you for uploading ArturRenzo
Damn that was the best video of 2019 I've seen. What a treat that was
What a lovely time in history. I miss sharing an earth with Hunter.
What a crazy scene at the end, hunters favorite. Though it didn’t make the cut it’s crazy to see that was his favorite, how much that meant to him, whether it meant something to him in his younger years or in his final we will never know. Something almost all of us can see in our selves, a reason why a lot of us come to read Hunter.
Amazing footage of a very Iconic writer, Hunter speaks his own mind that's for sure. Yes, the acting was pretty good.
After getting to know Hunter and Johnny becoming Hunter, make me wish that if he were still alive I would have been honored to have drinks, smokes, and talk about life as well as poetry with him for a whole day and afternoon let alone a whole night.
Hunter was and is the true poet of the 20th and 21st century, plus he was way ahead of his time.
I knew I loved Johnny Depp, but when he mentioned the Norton Motorcycle, I swooned!
I Love that this was filmed, H.S.T. is missed daily
