Would of loved to have been alive to witness this. I relate with Hunter a lot. Just born too late to experience it first hand but grateful these recordings exist.
1:04:00 you can tell David letterman really cares about his health and well-being and the crowd just laughing about drug use but he hunter lived life on his terms
You forget how willing Letterman was to embrace the absurd early on. He was an edgy comedian if there ever was one. And a show-biz guy through-and-through.
@@ML-kx9gz Thompson was a 'natural cynic' (that's a satirical term I like to use in place of Bob Marley's phrase 'natural mystic'), and through this characterization, in his own way, became the greatest critic of the 20th century.
As Thompson get's less into psychedelica and turns more into alcohol and cocaine, he get's less interesting and more sad imo. His thoughts are very interesting and he has a beautiful way of wording them, but they get more messy and incoherent as he gets older.
@@possum4941 read fear and loathing on the campaign trail he campaigned for a Bernie clone lol. and he shit on enlightened centrists who thought they were above it all (probably you)
So hard at 43 minutes in to even understand what he is saying slurring his words on Charlie Rose. I get that the time was different and addiction and alcoholism was different back then but it's sad to watch a brilliant man drunk.

“Is this a gift Hunter?”
“Well in a sense, that’s a bomb”

"i wasnt sure which one was gonna prevail"

Incredible supercut.

VHS film!? Ah , sweet nostalgia.
Tape, not film. But yes, VHS.
When you see Charlie Rose put Hunter's gift on the floor, just watch his face close. He was holding back...
Hunter is a boss
"What are doing later on?" @1:32.
Pure HST.
15:25 *"nothing better than talking to a good, mean Jesuit"*
The line from the Merle Haggard song at 1:52:... wasn't from Okie From Muskogee it was from Merle Haggard's Fightin' Side Of Me
8:45' Hunter mentions BIDEN getting blown out of the water!
Can't believe I'm the first comment on this!!!
who cares
Well... good work. I guess aimlessly surfing the web pays off?
@@veritas.vitriol1328 It's a bad sign if Hunter as a democrat even back in the early 80s did not like Biden.

Is that Carly Simon?
Yep...that's Carly Simon. Her huge smile is an instant identifier.
It's fitting: Carly Simon as in Simon & Schuster
Yup

No one LIKES biden lol youre right though.
He wouldn't believe it if he saw what became of the world after he left.
Hunter was def a Bernie fan

i have problems understanding the doc when he talks. I thought I was bilingual but I guess it's not enough for him...
I'm willing to say that David TRIED fit the Doktor into the program. But HST is just too goofy to fit in a 3 minute segment.
Could you imagine Hunter in the modern long form podcast format? Picturing 3 hours of HST with Lex Fridmen, ah, what could have been...
@@D-Fens_1632 I was just thinking this omg I like the way he explains things.
God she is fucking gorgeous

@@LisaSmith3663 i think people need to understand that hunter was first of all an alcoholic, second drug user and third a writer
