For metallic paints in alien colors, I love taking Citadel Runefang Steel, and mixing in pretty much any color of contrast or airbrush paint you want. (You want your color to be watery to mix with the thicker layer paint so the metallic doesn't become muted) I've got some 40k Votann that are done up in a metallic emerald using this combo

I just paint with white from a rattlecan, paint the black stuff when it shows and then just NULN OIL man.. :)) After a mini is finished how many times do you look at it with a microscope?

Prepared positions is good if plan around it, such a majority of your army is prepared position
Agree, definitely have to build around it. It can be really tough to deal with for some armies.
Can confirm: Palpatine + Anger + burst of speed + now you will die is not fun to play against.
