funny to see totenwache here, theyre pretty underground even in germany, still small, but established their name. i know the guys personally, super nice dudes.
Also, I think it's really interesting what you said about the anti religious themes of black metal. It actually does feel that the whole "satanic" thing has become passé in the last few years. I remember Behemoth's last album got a lot of flak for that too, not because it's offensive or shocking, but thematically and lyrically its been done to death.
10:18 we're getting closer and closer to victory, people! keep bombarding him with more and more varied and palitable black metal, something's gonna stick eventually!
I've enjoyed this punk style guitar work much more than some of the other black metal tracks, but those vocals will never sit well with me. Monotonous Orc Talk. They do something right - production.
I'm not the biggest fan of the foundational ideas of BM, and this is basically 9 relentless minutes of those ideas. I can enjoy the genre when it's mixed with other genres, especially prog or classic rock, but there just aren't enough variations here especially melodically/harmonically and texturally to keep my attention.
Yeah I must say anrichristian black metal is long overdone and boring. Sadly there is just so much of it. I think Mglas newer material does it well, because by means of nihilistic lyricism they imply a antichristian sentiment, which is much more tasteful.
I check out Exercises in Futility a while ago and I gotta agree, it's a small departure but a welcome one. Though it was quite an exhausting listen regardless of lyrical theme.

Cool to see some Totenwache! I really love this album, it feels energetic and epic, while maintaining the black metal vibe throughout.

Never heard these guys before. Feels very early 2000's nostalgic: Satanic Warmaster and others. Man, I wish that "DsO==cool" wave never had happened.
Yes, quite similar to Finnish black metal from '00s - very punky drums and folk-inspired guitar melodies.

"Well produced" Black Metal isn't Black Metal, part of the definition is that it sounds like it's recorded in a Bathroom
Nah
Gatekeepy bullshit.
Genres are descriptors not rules to follow.
What music is this then? Lmao
that a joke ?
