    I have spent long hours looking at oil painting lessons from artists. But, let me tell you, I have been an architect and an amateur artist (self-taught) for many years and I find Diane’s instructional videos the best I’ve seen to date. Diane’s natural ability to teach you the basics of painting and color theory far surpasses that of any other method. My art and paintings have improved a hundred-fold and I would say by magic from watching Diane’s videos. The fundamentals learned are unmatched. Thank you Diane a million times over for your patience and charisma in teaching. I will continue learning from you, watching and buying your lessons. I am taking art more seriously now that I made great strides by just just watching your videos. I am your biggest fan and I wish you the very best.

    I have looked through 4-5 DOZEN videos trying to find this information and I was about to resign thinking it's not available because it's too difficult to teach via video. You explained it so simply and effectively that, in your second swatch, I thought "no, needs more warmth." When I realized what I said to myself, I was so excited to FINALLY understand it to point I knew what to do! Thank you very much!

    I've made my living painting watercolours for 35 years so thought I'd try oils for a change, consequently watching lots of vids on youtube. I must say yours are the most helpful I have come across. Yet again you nail it beautifully here - not forgetting the casual way you use a knife, a cloth and a smart method for lifting and mixing paint that keeps the pallet fresh. Thanks.

    Just found your channel, this is the first video I'm watching, and you just blew my mind regarding the systematic and logical way to achieve accurate neutrals. Thank you, very much, you have a new subscriber. Incredibly valuable teaching.

    Ms. Maze, Your verbal skills really help to define terms and your hands on modeling and demonstration explain the concepts in a clear and precise way. Thank you for all the effort you put in in understanding your audience and unraveling the value, color intensity mystery.

    Wow, you are a great teacher! You explained about mixing neutrals better than any other artists. Pls show some more mixings for painting portraits or give links to your lecture to follow them.

      Sundaram, I'll be showing other choices for color mixing from time to time. Meanwhile, take a look at Cesar Santos' channel on UA-cam. He is a masterful portrait painter and in some of his videos, he explains the colors he is using. My philosophy is that if somebody else is doing it better, I'll send you to that person.

    Can you please tell me what shade of red and yellow I should buy to start painting? I definite about blue to be prussian one but yellow and red is a bit confusing. There are plenty of shade available and I fail to understand which should be considered as primary?

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction  3 роки тому +1

      Arvind, for red I have on my palette permanent alizarin and cadmium red light. For yellow, cadmium yellow light is a good choice. Prussian blue is not the idea blue for a primary blue because it is a lower intensity blue. A better choice would be cobalt blue, or if that's too expensive both ultramarine and thalo blue.

    You are my teacher for acrylics. You're the best online I've found. Could you more often, especially in this video, list the download series applicable so I could buy that one? TIA

      Series 32, Unraveling Intensity, has four lessons dealing with working with managing intensity. Lesson 3 is called Creating Unity with Neutrals.

      Thank you so much. I wasn't sure you would notice comments in old posts. I expect to purchase that series, and probably many others. I have been going through your Quick Tips from the beginning. What a treasure they are. I thank you for them. I'm in my 70's and just taking up painting after having dabbled in it in my 20's before family and education jobs took up all my time. Well, then, after retirement there was Photoshop and photography and writing. But painting had been number one on my bucket list. So you are an inspiration for me. @@IntheStudioArtInstruction

      Any value of a neutral can be mixed with any lighter color.

      @@IntheStudioArtInstruction i mean we can use titanium white to get a lighter value of a color, but how to make it darker? Using raw umber or blue?

      Rupali, I'm not sure what you are asking. The Quick Tip you refer to is about how to think through the mixing of neutrals. The green I think you're referring to resulted from Ultramarine Blue mixed into Cadmium Yellow Deep, which was just one step in the mixing towards neutral process.
