How to mix a beautiful gray

A long time ago, I remembered struggling to make a gray color. Gray often can look flat and dull. I almost gave up, but then my cat, Cisco walked by. He was a beautiful warm gray color, just the gray I was after. So I experimented more with mixing colors to get this gray and finally came up with a recipe. Today, I want to share it with you. It has a surprising ingredient!
"Cisco Gray" is one of the most popular Art2Life colors because it's not your typical flat gray, which is made mainly from just black and white. Instead, it contains many colors; the more colors you add, the richer the gray becomes. Finally, you end up with a rich, warm gray that looks beautiful next to many other colors.

I love the Cisco Grey and Lylas white. Lucky enought to have won some paints sent to me in New Zealand by Art2Life. It is a shame you dont ship here ordinarily, so I am most grateful for the colour mixing recipe/demo.
I think I am right in sayingyou showed how to mix Lylas white also.... I will just have towade back through a couple of years of your videos to try find it. It is a beautiful white to use, and now my supply is getting low.

Amazing timing..I was at the the Cantor Museum today looking at abstract painters, De Kooning, Pollack, Diebenkorn, and I saw so much Grey in their paintings. I have had a difficult time with Grey...too cold so I thank you for your Grey recipe Nicholas. Elizabeth

My favourite gray mix is burnt sienna and anthoquinone blue. Or ultramarine blue. Or burnt umber with a blue. Nicer when the blues are leaning warm or just neutral. But cool blues are interesting too. Its easy to lean your gray warm or cool with these colours.
