    Great information. I love the fact that you are so willing to share your knowledge through YT videos. I noticed that you mentioned preferring fresh blueberries if the choice was available. I have read that frozen fruits and vegetables are often higher quality because they are allowed more time on the vine to ripen. It makes sense from a logistics perspective, but I've never thoroughly researched the claim. Thought I'd throw that out there as a consideration.
    Thanks for your videos!

    Awww they are so cute! I wish I had one of yours they seem so well tempered. I’ve had to work my butt off with my red baby but we are getting there. Thanks for the tips on adding heart and more liver! Especially with my red because his sheds are never very good. I’ll be making him a new meat mix next week so will definitely be adding those!

    I'm feeding four Tegus and I grind chicken thighs. Some chicken gizzards, some chicken hearts. Another meat I found in my search due to high cost was frozen Smelt. Walmart had it at a little over five bucks a lb. It recently went up some. I'd grind it up and mix with all the other. Smelt has 14% protein and 20% Calcium. I add a tiny bit of Bil-Jac frozen dog food. I alone eat 7 1/2 lbs. of the GV frozen blueberries a month so the Tegus get them. Also in the mix is Carrots , Mango , finely chopped broccoli , GV no salt green beans a little apple. They'd tear a pile of them green beans up straight out of the can if I'd.let them. The Red Bell Peppers is like candy to them and the Red ones has 11 times more Beta -Carotene , 8 times.more Vit A , and 1.5 times more Vit C than all the other Bell Peppers. Lastly I add the Repashy and GV Super Vit B Complex. I give them a little Chicken liver but worry about the high amounts of Purine that's in Chicken liver which causes Gout. Hopefully ample water intake will combat that. Again a great and enjoyable video. Keep up the good work Joey. May your family stay blessed

      I've heard that broccoli is toxic to Tegus. Perhaps I need to do more research on that.

    • @h.o.j2375
      @h.o.j2375 11 місяців тому

      @@bonappetit1917It’s definitely not toxic in small amounts. As with all toxins, the dose makes the poison. I’ve seen ppl feed tegus kiwi fruits, kiwi is full of oxalates but probably because they’re not feeding a large amount it doesn’t affect the animals.

    WHen you get the chickens avoid Purina brand feed. They changed their formula last year and their was wide spread problem with people's chickens stopping to lay. Nestle owns Purina. They have stated that they don't believe that water is a human right. So I totally can see them having no problem messing with their mix to manipulate markets. There are many UA-cams on this subject including a former CEO making the statement about water.

    Good stuff man! Hearts, gizzards and chicken feet! Chicken feet are full of collagen which is crucial too. Added bonus is it has a 1:1 ratio of calcium to phosphorus ratio. I don’t feed a whole lot of muscle meat since it’s just protein. Organ meat or whole prey has so much more to it. Mine refuse to eat liver but liver is king . It’s natures multi vitamin. Bee pollen also works well as a supplement.

    One of your high whites is my dream reptile. The only thing I go back and forth on is whether I want a boy or a girl. Have you done a video on male versus female when it comes to a pet? I am so scared about females and the egg binding that can happen, and worry males might be more huffy during the mating season-and are females sensitive or huffy during that time also? I love the bulky look of the males, especially your males, but the slim sweet faces of females are so beautiful. Could you help with pro's and con's of each? The health risks, the longevity and the socialabilty are big deciding factors for me.

    Can someone give me an rule of thumb on feeding amount?
    Something relative to the animal size would be super helpful, like:
    "If you make a meat mix as shown, feed 1 meatball the size of your animals head per feeding"
    or something like that.
    Thanks!

    What was the amount/weight of the ground chicken for the mix? You said it was 12lbs for the hearts, and I'm not sure what the weight for the blueberries or veggies was, but it's gotta be somewhere in the 8-10lb range, right?

But he went back down. The hot spot is 116 degrees, and he has a ceramic bulb near the middle to help keep the rest warm, but he still wants to brumate.

    I will definitely try your meat mix. I have two tegus, a black and white male and a red female. The male has no problem shedding, but I wish I could say the same for the red female. She has had chronic shedding problems ever since she reached adult size. Their large cage is difficult to keep humid but their hidebox is large and very humid. They go outside in the summer months. I feed them a varied diet but will have to feed more hearts and livers. I have tried the vitamin b but with no results. I have heard the reds have more shedding issues than the others, so there must be something missing. I try soaking her without much luck. The skin just really hardens on and doesn't even start to shed. In short she always looks awful.
