This is an old video but I always rewatch them. PLEASE MAKE A TOUR VIDEO. THEY ARE MY FAVORITE. Love everything you post.❤
I'm planning on doing a tour video soon!
Definitely gonna try this it's something I haven't tried
Who else was looking for this little baby bird when the grinder started working on 9:58? 😂 Thank you for the that great information on that video btw
I love how tegus interact with each other and humans they are very intelligent Reptiles just like iguanas and monitors
This video is golden! Learning more about what to feed my reptiles is so helpful!
You're a tegu lord. There is probably nothing you don't know about tegus wonderful education tegu video
Great information. I love the fact that you are so willing to share your knowledge through YT videos. I noticed that you mentioned preferring fresh blueberries if the choice was available. I have read that frozen fruits and vegetables are often higher quality because they are allowed more time on the vine to ripen. It makes sense from a logistics perspective, but I've never thoroughly researched the claim. Thought I'd throw that out there as a consideration.
Thanks for your videos!
Awww they are so cute! I wish I had one of yours they seem so well tempered. I’ve had to work my butt off with my red baby but we are getting there. Thanks for the tips on adding heart and more liver! Especially with my red because his sheds are never very good. I’ll be making him a new meat mix next week so will definitely be adding those!
I love them all. We just got a sub adult red and will probably be looking for a second one at some point in the future.
Good job.
amazing video, love the video quality!!!
Glad you enjoyed!
I’m definitely off to the supermarket tomorrow 🏃🏾♂️thanks a lot Joey !!!
Good luck!!
I did try your vitamin B trick and it worked amazing. Thank you so much. In Thailand inflation is ridiculous now too, so thos video is awesome.
Thanks so much you're awesome
I love high white tegus and fire & ice tegus
Still waiting on a chacoan male. Had a deposit for 2 seasons. Unfortunately your hatching has had problems. Will wait as long as it takes for one of your beautiful tegu's.
I'm feeding four Tegus and I grind chicken thighs. Some chicken gizzards, some chicken hearts. Another meat I found in my search due to high cost was frozen Smelt. Walmart had it at a little over five bucks a lb. It recently went up some. I'd grind it up and mix with all the other. Smelt has 14% protein and 20% Calcium. I add a tiny bit of Bil-Jac frozen dog food. I alone eat 7 1/2 lbs. of the GV frozen blueberries a month so the Tegus get them. Also in the mix is Carrots , Mango , finely chopped broccoli , GV no salt green beans a little apple. They'd tear a pile of them green beans up straight out of the can if I'd.let them. The Red Bell Peppers is like candy to them and the Red ones has 11 times more Beta -Carotene , 8 times.more Vit A , and 1.5 times more Vit C than all the other Bell Peppers. Lastly I add the Repashy and GV Super Vit B Complex. I give them a little Chicken liver but worry about the high amounts of Purine that's in Chicken liver which causes Gout. Hopefully ample water intake will combat that. Again a great and enjoyable video. Keep up the good work Joey. May your family stay blessed
I've heard that broccoli is toxic to Tegus. Perhaps I need to do more research on that.
@@bonappetit1917It’s definitely not toxic in small amounts. As with all toxins, the dose makes the poison. I’ve seen ppl feed tegus kiwi fruits, kiwi is full of oxalates but probably because they’re not feeding a large amount it doesn’t affect the animals.
I have never used a meat grinder but I think I will look into it. I used turkey meat but I do use chicken liver. I will see where I can get the hearts as you suggested. I have subscribed and will be following so my tegus can do better with what you are showing me. Thank you.
Hearts and livers along with salmon, catfish, shrimp, meat mash and the occasional whole prey is in my food rotation.
Sounds great!
WHen you get the chickens avoid Purina brand feed. They changed their formula last year and their was wide spread problem with people's chickens stopping to lay. Nestle owns Purina. They have stated that they don't believe that water is a human right. So I totally can see them having no problem messing with their mix to manipulate markets. There are many UA-cams on this subject including a former CEO making the statement about water.
Good stuff man! Hearts, gizzards and chicken feet! Chicken feet are full of collagen which is crucial too. Added bonus is it has a 1:1 ratio of calcium to phosphorus ratio. I don’t feed a whole lot of muscle meat since it’s just protein. Organ meat or whole prey has so much more to it. Mine refuse to eat liver but liver is king . It’s natures multi vitamin. Bee pollen also works well as a supplement.
You are awesome Joey! I so want a baby Tegu but having Big Tex (6yr old rescued from the streets of Nashville TN) I'll raise him till I can incorporate a young Tegu!
Do you happen to have a video on those enclosures... they look so amazing?
There’s an amazing reptile shop near me that has a 2 year old anery het tegu a gentleman recently traded in. The manager is a passionate guy and has been working with him daily. They know I’m interested and offered to allow me to come in and work with him as much as I want to help me make my decision.
It’s a very tempting offer!
One of your high whites is my dream reptile. The only thing I go back and forth on is whether I want a boy or a girl. Have you done a video on male versus female when it comes to a pet? I am so scared about females and the egg binding that can happen, and worry males might be more huffy during the mating season-and are females sensitive or huffy during that time also? I love the bulky look of the males, especially your males, but the slim sweet faces of females are so beautiful. Could you help with pro's and con's of each? The health risks, the longevity and the socialabilty are big deciding factors for me.
More color!
The babies are adorable i will be getting one of them from you one day.
Same here!
Thank you!
Would be cool if you made a video about how often you feed em in all ages of life
I love feeding chicken hearts, good source of food
How long can this stay good in the freezer?
I used your mix ,but i could find chicken hearts in the here in the uk ( why i don't know ) So i used lambs heart .OMG she went nuts and ate the lot ..This isn't her everyday diet ..i mix it up as shes only 5 mths ..
What lights do you use for indoor enclosures?
Can someone give me an rule of thumb on feeding amount?
Something relative to the animal size would be super helpful, like:
"If you make a meat mix as shown, feed 1 meatball the size of your animals head per feeding"
or something like that.
Thanks!
What was the amount/weight of the ground chicken for the mix? You said it was 12lbs for the hearts, and I'm not sure what the weight for the blueberries or veggies was, but it's gotta be somewhere in the 8-10lb range, right?
I've always added hearts and livers, no wonder they shed so easy.
Can you do any kind of heart? Beef heart? Turkey heart?
I have used beef heart and liver as well as turkey heart. Organ meet is great to use in your tegu mix.
Thank u for this. I wish u could just sell ur own mix that u use. Lol
Maybe one day!
How often do you feed the baby tegus?
How much repashy do u use in the mix? On the bottle, it just days about dusting bugs in a plastic bag, but nothing about how much to add to meat. The same thing, with anything i find online.
So is this the only good u give them this meat mix up?
Mine used to eat blueberries but now idk she's picky is it normal for them to be pickyn
I noticed mine liked beef liver n then now she seems picky 😂
Do tegus always brumate even if you don’t give them a winter cycle?
No, some will stay up all year.
I'm just waiting for my young B&W to rise from brumation. Got him in December, he handles very well, but he chose to brumate. Hopefully he will be just as calm when he wakes up, but whether he is or not I'm gonna bug him and socialize him best I can.
Crazy, I got my tegu this December and he tried to brumate but after fixing the heating issue and making sure I am bugging him everyday.... he now refuses to not be held when I go to feed him and he loves chicken heart. His favorite but I have a paraguan red tegu.
@@patriciaperalta9143 Did you dig yours out of the substrate? I messed with mine the other day to try and redo his enclosure but he wasn't too upset that I woke him at all. But he went back down. The hot spot is 116 degrees, and he has a ceramic bulb near the middle to help keep the rest warm, but he still wants to brumate.
I’ve heard liver can give them seizures. Have you ever had a problem with that?
I have never heard that or had that problem
Fruit does not lose any nutritional value being frozen. Frozen all the way!
Thank you! That's great news🙌🙌
I will definitely try your meat mix. I have two tegus, a black and white male and a red female. The male has no problem shedding, but I wish I could say the same for the red female. She has had chronic shedding problems ever since she reached adult size. Their large cage is difficult to keep humid but their hidebox is large and very humid. They go outside in the summer months. I feed them a varied diet but will have to feed more hearts and livers. I have tried the vitamin b but with no results. I have heard the reds have more shedding issues than the others, so there must be something missing. I try soaking her without much luck. The skin just really hardens on and doesn't even start to shed. In short she always looks awful.
Try adding cod liver oil to the meat mix.
My tegu loves chicken hearts but holy hell they’re stinky AF 🤢
Can tegus have raw fish ?? Boneless...
