That is fantastic Joey, I have used your recipe for 2 years now and my Tegus love it. I have also put in ground whole chick's and quail per some of your earlier videos. I will have to keep my eyes open for a deal like that. I just love watching all that is going on at Rose City Reptiles. Can not wait for the next one.
I agree! I modified his recipes and my red boy inhales his food. I get asked all the time “what do you feed that thing?!” Haha in regards to him being huge for his age (6 months). Only thing ive discovered Sobek isnt as big on turkey as chicken but he loves fish and eggs so i use those as treats/meal toppers and he goes nuts. He is able to swallow quail eggs whole now and once he can handle quail/chicken chicks i cant wait to feed whole prey. Going to start making ground whole prey mixes soon too he always has 2-3 different flavors at a time so he wont get bored. Joey is a priceless resource and a great breeder! Everytime I see red tegus at the expos, i cant help but say to myself “mine looks so much better” 😁
I subscribed a while ago but this is the first video I was notified of in months going to have to go watch all the ones I missed as always great content 👍
@@RoseCityReptilesTX thank you I just done that there hopefully that’ll keep me updated looking to get a tegu soon when I get more living space if only I lived in America i could buy one from you because they look amazing
Built a grinder like that 30 yrs. ago using a washing machine motor. Horsepower?? lol. Belt wheel size is what thought my be right. So wheel size was experimental. 1st trial run I blew deer meat 5 feet and up the kitchen wall. LMBO. Ended up putting in a reastat switch to slow it down.
I did that all last year and broke my scoop about 6 months ago. I actually forgot all about it, 100% best way to do it! You will see a ice cream scoop in my next food video.
Hi Joey! We currently have a beardie and two pythons and have just begun looking into getting a tegu. Will you be at the reptile expo in Vegas next weekend?
Typically, they all get the same diet. I feed alot of fresh fruits, especially during spring and summer. I have always heard to feed reds more fruit, and I have done that but now I am feeding them all more fruits.
Hi, what is your estimate on how much would owning 1 tegu cost monthly (just caring for the tegu, no electrical bills or enclosure costs) and do you think it would be possible to give it proper care in a place that is not very advanced in the field of owning reptiles (pet shops here do not really have some of the things I have heard people need for their reptiles)
Hey guys, can you do a video of how to tell if your tegu is healthy? I feel like I feed mine similar to your recipes but I'm wondering if one of mine is overweight. I was told to let him eat until he walks away, but his appetite is huge sometimes. We try to free roam him bit he just looks for a hide away spot. He's not interested in play or explore. Just eat and hide. I am going to bump his veggies up and reduce proteins.
How old is your tegu? We have several adults that need portion control and if I let them eat as much as they want they would be obese. With tegus, it's easy to put the weight on and hard to get it off.
@@RoseCityReptilesTX he is about 2 years old. He has the " flap" on his sides if he hasn't eaten in a day or two. He moves fine, no struggles. It's really his cheeks. I know they are large on males, but my boy seems to have massive "cheeks." His tail is thick and heavy but doesn't seem out of portion to rest of his body. I've been told his pattern indicates chacoan bloodline.( we adopted him at about 18 months ish , he did not have the cheeks yet) We have another baby we got from you , but he's still too small to get a comparison.
I'm loving all the Tegu info! I've been "the snake man" for a very long time but lizards are a lot less familiar to me. My female is a little over a year old and absolutely wonderful! Bust she still very much wants food every day and while I know I need to cut back feeding amounts and/or how often I'm feeding but I'm not sure the best way to transition from fueling a babies growth to basically the maintenance of an adults needs. Is it better to switch to every other day or 3 times a week or let her continue eating every day but maybe smaller meals? I don't want to let her become overweight but I also don't want to interfere with her growth. If you've already gone over this in a video, I'll be happy to go find it. I'm still binge watching your content. 😉 I'm definitely hooked (along with nearly everyone that's met her) and I'm looking forward to keeping her as happy as she makes me. Thanks for all the great content, I've already absorbed so much from your channel!
@@dinogamergaming I believe so. She eats every other day now, a medium/small meal consisting mostly of her favorite food.. Grapes. I just supplement the fruit with a small amount of random other foods like gourmet dog food, ground chicken with bones or hardboiled eggs with the shell. She gets to eat often and her weight seems to be staying consistent with her growth. No hips, big fatty tail, but she still has a pronounced lateral fold so I'm not worried that she's overweight. Thanks for the reply!

How long do you keep everything for before it spoils? Is everything able to be refrigerated and/or for how long.

Great job!
Thanks!

Hello,
is this preparation only for baby tegu or also for adults? thank you
For little babies I would run it through the grinder twice to make sure everything is small and ground up. This is for young juviniles and adults.

How often and how much do you feed a 1 year old tegu ?
Depends on size and season. Typically a one year old tegu can eat 3-5x per week.
