I can't remember the NPC's name nor the exact line, but it was the guy that introduces the magic wheel to us, after the tutorial he says to go back to ravenwood as he would hate to interrupt "our more traditional studies". 100%, The magic fountain is definitely BS, the game really drills that in, and it's valid. Then again, in terms of everything else, I think the world serves as a perfect opportunity for KingsIsle to expand their universe in a way that is strictly worldbuilding instead of having some crazy conflict going on everywhere. Honestly this does seem interesting as an outsider looking in, I think it might just be that as you said pigswick is just taking a different viewpoint on the same fundamental magical force. For example wildfire can be a destructive force that can cause a lot of collateral damage, it can also be used to craft things from ironworking to baking. Ice can come in the form of a nigh-immovable glacier, it can also come in the form of light frost on your windowsill that melts away with the slightest touch. For both the heat and the cold, they are fundamentally the same it's just that ravenwood and pigswick focus on different aspects in their philosophy. This is a good theory. Especially tempest, they could have easily gone with a "calm water" to be the opposite of storm but they decided to make it more than that. That, and I also think that the school of pigswick academy is a critique on astrology and while to some degree its making fun of overly philosophical thinking without any practice, it is also challenging widely held beliefs in this universe. like saying well not everyone born with a certain blood type is predictable in a certain way. things like that. This was soooo good and SO interesting to watch. I always loved Wysteria and definitely wish they expand the storyline to go back there. Amazing video!!!
So what do you think each school would be gameplay wise in terms of there roles. The only things that can come to my mind would be Tempest would be an all rounded school. Ember maybe healing and Frost maybe Glace Canon.
Frost would definitely be a glass cannon. I think Spirit would be really minion-heavy, and Equilibrium would have a lot of debuffs. There's a lot to be said about each, so maybe I'll make a video about it some time. I've definitely thought about it a lot.
Goddamn, first video is knocking it out the park with the editing! Amazingly thoughtful, looking forward to seeing more! Also I am into the idea of having them integrated into spell weaving, cuz they are not completely separate, but adjacent to our current schools, and could make for a very interesting system down the road.
Loved this video, definitely a very interesting idea to explore, and I agree with your reasoning and explanation. I wish KI would go back and revisit some of this stuff like they are doing with selenopolis right now. Great video either way!!
This is so well made and intriguing. I’m shocked that you have no other videos! I hope to see more of your theories in the future, this was excellently crafted. ❤️
wysteria is my fav world and Im rly sad we never actually see these schools being used. Imagine how cool it would be if we started fights and enemies casted symbols and spells we never saw before and then learned about their schools later. Loved the vid and I hope to see more soon :) Sub from me
The schools of wysteria is the schools of ravenwood but with the philosofies of the wheel shifted. Ember is fire with ice philosofy. Frost has the philosofy of storm and tempest then obviously gets the philosofy of fire. Earth is life with the philosofy of death, spirit is death with the philosofy of myth (the things that happen AFTER death) and chaos then obviously gets the philosofy of life
I've never played this game but your lore video is really neat and I can imagine that, in a real world, there *would* in fact be a school that focuses on different philosophies and aspects of magic. If the player's school is the one that teaches spellcasting and battle magic, then the parody-named school would be an academic centre of magical research that propels magical understanding forwards. Especially since the wealthy students will be in a financial position to perform personal research, and support large scale projects done through their old school, after graduation.
Balance and Equilibriums differences, they literally do equal or balance out each other. Balance has a focus on the chaotic nature of combining the elements and spirits, whilst Equilibrium tips the scales back with complete order separate from everything else. Quite fitting. However, with Balance originating from Krokotopia, specifically the Order of The Fang creating it, it is told how they wove all of the other practices into each other to create balance magic, in order to combat the Tuts. Here's something that might break the idea of Equilibrium being an at all appropriate way of studying Balance magic, it's hilariously from Age of Ultron, "They think order and chaos are opposites." We view things as chaotic when they don't go how we expect them to, but that's how it did, the law of nature deemed it so, and that is in essence balance. Why yes, I am a Balance Wiz, how could you tell?
ravenwood teaches you how to use the tank, pigswick teaches you the how and why that tank operates. honestly it is one of the best aspects of the lore, as if the two schools (or really anyone else) worked together they could make magic that is vastly better than anything currently around, with pigswick graduates telling the how, while the ravenwood and others do the actual magic that most of the teachers in pigswick are from species that aren't great at their own magic but ARE great at understanding it as it flows in them is a massive advantage to teaching others to not see magic as some mystic force but something you can truly understand with study
Amazing work!! I love your video, I can't wait to see what more you have to discuss!! I've said this before to other channels, but have you considered making Wizard101 What If videos as well as theories?? (Like what if the Wizard joined Morganthe or what if Malistaire won, etc...)

Myth as the school of chaos was always how I remembered its advantage against balance. I thought that was part of the Myth school's lore, not a teaching from a side world with... questionable professors and academia. Guess Pigswick Academy is a better school than I thought!
This was such a good video! Clearly someone's been studying philosophy! 😂 No but seriously well done! This theory actually made Wysteria interesting to me
A return to Wysteria's schools of magic, and their perspective on magic is well overdue with archmastery and school weaving coming about, hopefully Ki actually listens on this one for once

Absolutely love this after just doing another walk through of Wysteria! My only thought is that it's stated in game that Myth and Storm are opposites because Myth is the school of Creation whilst Storm is the School of Destruction. Otherwise love the video!
@@camerongiles6650 Does it say that? Storm is the inventor's school, it certainly seems more creative than destructive. I saw one of the original game writers say that they had to make them opposites after they were created, so their best explanation is that storm vs myth is logic vs imagination. I would just argue you need imagination to be an inventor as well.
The one point i kidna have to disagre is that myth being the opposite of storm, does actually make sense. Firstly, calling a myth the school of imagination is rather weird. While I know that's what it's called in it's describtion, it is followed by "Beware, though, for when imagination becomes too fanciful and whimsical, dreams can escape control and run wild." It's a very strict school which as you implied makes myth wizards the most studious and disciplined. Even their own methods are based on remembering the true names of something in order to summon it. I would say that myth rather than the school of imagination is the school of knowledge. Storm on the other hand is about creativity, but specifically a spontanious creativity, as it's description says "It represents that flash of insight, or the spark of inspiration that makes you yell, Eureka!" and "Wizards that embrace the School of Storm, known as Diviners, are driven by the thrill of investigation and discovery." They are spontaneous and unlike myth, not afraid to dream big, and gamble on what may come - literary being the school who's spells are the most likely to fail, both with having the lowest accuracy and the only school with gamble based effects. Myth and Storm are the opposite on the basis that one seeks the knowledge through scroutinous research of the past where the other through looking into the possibilities of the future.
I can see that- Myth is the past and Storm is the future. I still don't think it's perfect, it feels reductive in a lot of ways, but it's the best I've heard so far, and probably the best we'll get since they don't have an innate and obvious opposition like the others do.
@@AstralGarden101 I may be biased, since I do kinda look at the Wizard101 magic schools through the ideas given to me from MtG color wheel study, but I honestly have to disagree. To me it feels more reductive to need such innate and obvious opposition because it reduces the schools to simple A vs B, while ignoring the philosophy behind each of them. The first thing we do after arriving in Ravenwood (lorewise) is consulting a book of secret, which gives us a personality quiz based on which we are assigned towards one of the schools. This tells us that ones personality is important when choosing a field of magic they were to study, and that magic schools are based, not on their elements themselfself, but at the ideas behind them. Fire and Ice are not opposing schools because fire melts ice and cold extinguishes fire, but because the philosophies behind both of them are the polar opposites - fire represents passion, enthusiasm and anger, while ice represents patience, rigidity and temprance. The duality of them comes from one being a school of action, while the other from the school of passiveness, which is also reflected in their playstyles. The same concepts can be appied to myth and storm. Myth is a school of dyscipline, while storm is the school of spontaneousness. Myth focuses on knowledge already learned, while storm on knowledge yet to be learned. Myth wizards prefer to be in control, while storm wizards are reckless and prone to risk.
@@tratanlightbreaker6029 Not sure if you've played the new "Wheel of Magic" questline in Selenopolis, but it explains the relationships between schools and they actually do say, word for word, that "fire melts ice" and that's why they're opposites
@@AstralGarden101That's straight up not true. The roshambo wheel doesn't even uses the concept of the opposite schools pairings, so them saying that would make no sense. They did say "Fire melts ice", but they did not said "that's why they're opposites". It's an entirely different system which is irrelevant if we talking whether storm and myth are opposites.
Earth magic would be so fun to play, “From Earth came all things, and eventually, all shall return to its clutches” - A school based around "reclaiming," with lots of steal charms/wards would be awesome.
Would be cool of at the start of the game you could choose whoch school ro enroll in and start there or transfer to ravenwood (so quests make sense) but have your home world unlocked. This would also make it so ypu could be differnt species if you want.
My impression of Myth and Storm is that Myth is more like on the mental/conceptual side and Storm is on the physical. Myth is more about aesthetic form. Storm is more about practical function. Myth is more about stories and art. Storm is more about devices and inventions. This makes them more like the duality of Pigswick's Spirit and Earth, rather than the dyad of Chaos and Equilibrium.(Or Tempestus, which could still somewhat be seen as a counter to Chaos) It seems in practical application, Ravenwood's schools are more successful, which probably means its theories are more accurate. (Additional evidence could be seen in the enemy school weaknesses/resistances, but how canon such game-play aspects are can be questionable, especially since Pirate101 exists.) However, even if Ravenwood's theories are more accurate, that does not mean they are complete. The school philosophies may be applied more broadly than the fields associated with them, if Myth/Storm and Spirit/Earth really are counterparts.(Assuming there is any truth to the Pigswick theories.) If this is the case, then would the philosophy be the school or would the associated field be the school?
Sounds like Wysteria teaches more on civilian jobs but well Wizard City seems to be more focused on Military Jobs. That also explains how each school gets their recruit. If you stretch it out, the player character is technically “ drafted”.
The thing is Pigswick Ember professor and Ravenwoods Fire school summary are essentially one and the same. I olay Pyromancer and I intend to get some life school healing magics to keep me alive in battle.
I never thought about Myth and storm and "why" they are opposites but now I'm really curious about the exact reason. and funny thing about that is when I first heard the question I thought "well I know why I do" but then I typed it out realized my reasoning is... a little strange. I thought of Myth as "asleep"/"fake" while Storm was "awake"/"real". storm wakes up and reveals myth's being fake, and myth somehow concealed storm's reality and put it back to sleep. rereading it I feel like it makes sense but at the same time it feels weird, thanks for asking that question! it's really interesting to think on something I'd never even considered strange about the game.
I always interpreted the contrast between Storm and Myth as corporeal destruction vs incorporeal creation. The raw and physical destructive power of a force of nature contrasting with the intangible thoughts/ dreams created by sentient beings that can persist beyond physical existence.
If what you say is true (Great video btw & I 100% agree) then the one thing that doesn’t make sense to me is; If Pigswick Academy teaches & studies more of the philosophical & theological aspects of magic & none of their students graduate with some combat experience, why did Pigswick start & host the magic tournament for the Spiral Cup? Why does this tournament only have magical combat instead of academic competitions? And why has Ravenwood lost to them multiple times before finally deciding to drop out? It’s been a while since I’ve played that world so if anyone wants to correct me please do. But maybe it was just retcon? Not thoroughly thought out? I really do hope we see more of this world tbh
Ravenwood never lost to Pigswick. The whole thing is they started the Spiral Cup, but they lose to other schools every time. Eventually, everyone else got tired of beating them and stopped competing, meaning that Pigswick won by default a few times. I think if Pigswick stopped trying to judge their own worth by external metrics, and just fully embraced and focused on their uniqueness, it could be something really great. Same thing with the fountain. They thought they needed to show off some great magical artifact that only exists at the school, but they really didn't. They just need to carve their own name into history instead of trying to compare to other schools, when they're clearly not the same.
Correct me if I’m wrong but, isn’t there a quest or a gauntlet where they give you a task to tutor some of the pigs wick academy students? And one of the frost students even mentioned how far behind she was due to the frost professor not really teaching them anything.
To me it sounds like ravenwood focuses on the primordial side of magic. It's raw, it's powerful and it can get away from you. The academy however distilled that great nature into something containable
Wysteria aren't wrong necessarily especially on the Arc where we meet Chaos incarnate with the Kabaal trying to control it! These schools specifically tend to represent what Chaos did! AS we know the primary schools where founded by the primordial energy of the titans for elemental magic and raven and spider where the reason for spiritualism! Hence why it can also be said for Chaos to enact as a study that Pygswic Acadamies would study !
my thought is that each of the wystarian schools teach combination of 3 Ravenwood schools. the school of chaos teaches fire, myth, and storm spells, wile order teaches death, life, and frost spells these spells being spells to like storms, creations, and fire. fore the chaos and uncontrollability of the spells. wile order teaches spells like healing, traps, and control undead spells. when you think of it that way it makes since why most Wystarian'n wizards are not as power full it's because they are more rounded are are the Hogworts of wizard 101 wile Ravenwood is the Durmstrang teaching specific spells and wanting you to be power full in your school.
I always thought the Wysteria professors should at least teach a spell. Would give a reason to do Wysteria too

I hardly find any wizard1o1 content I enjoy, thank you oh so very much!
Great video!! Was surprised there was no more content from you cause I really wanted to see what else you had made, assuming you had been at this for a while. Can’t wait for the 2nd video
Second video in the works right now, the Selenopolis update gave me a lot to work with. :)
Finally someone in the community making lore videos again! Keep making these, please. I can't get enough!
I THOUGHT THE SAME EXACT THING AS I WENT THRU IT!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thght this ty for making this video!
This was soooo good and SO interesting to watch. I always loved Wysteria and definitely wish they expand the storyline to go back there. Amazing video!!!
i love this interpretation!!! you’re doing amazing!! can’t wait to see more !
this is actually really good i hope more people see this video
So what do you think each school would be gameplay wise in terms of there roles. The only things that can come to my mind would be Tempest would be an all rounded school. Ember maybe healing and Frost maybe Glace Canon.
Frost would definitely be a glass cannon. I think Spirit would be really minion-heavy, and Equilibrium would have a lot of debuffs. There's a lot to be said about each, so maybe I'll make a video about it some time. I've definitely thought about it a lot.
@@AstralGarden101A video like that would be great like a part 2
@@AstralGarden101we need the video it’s about that time
great video! really well done and interesting theory
@@misterbuck1242 Imagine being a Life wizard weaving Spirit
Loved this video, definitely a very interesting idea to explore, and I agree with your reasoning and explanation. I wish KI would go back and revisit some of this stuff like they are doing with selenopolis right now. Great video either way!!
This is so well made and intriguing. I’m shocked that you have no other videos! I hope to see more of your theories in the future, this was excellently crafted. ❤️
i never say them the way the game tells you too see it. i always saw it as a new way to harness the magic of the spiral
Wow, I love these lore type videos, please give us more content like this,
Hello from the lore chat!!
This video is awesome! I hope the writers see this and expand on it
This was a great video and a great introduction to your future content! You got another sub. I just love Wizard101 lore videos
I dont play Wizard 101, but the way you describe everything is really cool! Might try playing it haha
same hahah ^-^
wysteria is my fav world and Im rly sad we never actually see these schools being used.
Earth is life with the philosofy of death, spirit is death with the philosofy of myth (the things that happen AFTER death) and chaos then obviously gets the philosofy of life
Loved the vid, looking forward to more :)
thanks! incredible profile pic hahaha
@ loool real recognise real
There's also a thing where some of them seem to be rotated. Like there version of myth seems to have more in common with storm then myth itself...
very very cool video i don't know if i've ever seen a wiz video that made me feel like this one did. keep it up!!!
I want confirmation from devs. That would be awesome. Great video.
nice vid man!
I like your spin on Pigswick!
W video, keep them coming :3
I am surprised this is your first video, its so well made!
ravenwood teaches you how to use the tank, pigswick teaches you the how and why that tank operates.
honestly it is one of the best aspects of the lore, as if the two schools (or really anyone else) worked together they could make magic that is vastly better than anything currently around, with pigswick graduates telling the how, while the ravenwood and others do the actual magic
that most of the teachers in pigswick are from species that aren't great at their own magic but ARE great at understanding it as it flows in them is a massive advantage to teaching others to not see magic as some mystic force but something you can truly understand with study
Well done man! Looking forward to more🔥
This was an amazing video.
What a banger of a first video
Awesome video!! Really cool idea i would of never considered
for a first video this is fire
Amazing work!! I love your video, I can't wait to see what more you have to discuss!! I've said this before to other channels, but have you considered making Wizard101 What If videos as well as theories?? (Like what if the Wizard joined Morganthe or what if Malistaire won, etc...)
Ohh, like alternate history? I totally would if the right topic comes up :)
@AstralGarden101 I could see you becoming big on here! I'm excited to see how you progress
@@Ice_theurgist thanks :)
Wow, incredible. Simply incredible!
Ravenwood is where you get your MD, pigswick is where you get your PhD
I really liked this theory :) thank you !
I love this theory! Lovely stuff
Amazing first video
Leaving a sub, need more of this ❤
More soon! As soon as I clear this sinus infection... ugh
I’ve been saying this!!!! Awesome first vid, you got a follow from me => would love to see more!
I love wiz content! Ive been playing since release and ive seen this game develop from a 4 world game to a 10+ world game. Plesse tell the awesome stories of these worlds for us. New subscriber thats excited for more of your content showing lore of wizard101
Myth as the school of chaos was always how I remembered its advantage against balance. I thought that was part of the Myth school's lore, not a teaching from a side world with... questionable professors and academia. Guess Pigswick Academy is a better school than I thought!
THIS WAS AMAZING
This was such a good video! Clearly someone's been studying philosophy! 😂 No but seriously well done! This theory actually made Wysteria interesting to me
Glad you enjoyed! I'm a big philosophy and sociology nerd, and I just love Wysteria. Had to make the case for it hahaha
A return to Wysteria's schools of magic, and their perspective on magic is well overdue with archmastery and school weaving coming about, hopefully Ki actually listens on this one for once
Wysteria is my favorite world and I'm so happy to see someone do a deep dive on it!
Possibly more to come!
Honestly, this makes way too much sense. I wonder if someone at KI was waiting for someone like you to pick up on it all
Awesome video!
You explained this perfectly. If w101 focused more on this topic it would’ve made the world more interesting
Really good video! Never really thought about Wysteria like that before and the points you brought up were very interesting. I hope that you visit worlds like Khrysalis with your lore videos eventually 👀.
Algorithm, thank Bartleby that you finally recognize my love of Kingsisle. I insta-subbed to your channel because Wizard101 and Pirate101 lore doesn't get the coverage it deserves.
Edit: I'm surprised you have so much attention, but I'm not complaining. That just makes you peak
Randomly got back into the game again and then this video popped up; more please!
I wonder how they’d interpret the astral schools or shadow magic
Absolutely love this after just doing another walk through of Wysteria! My only thought is that it's stated in game that Myth and Storm are opposites because Myth is the school of Creation whilst Storm is the School of Destruction. Otherwise love the video!
@@camerongiles6650 Does it say that? Storm is the inventor's school, it certainly seems more creative than destructive. I saw one of the original game writers say that they had to make them opposites after they were created, so their best explanation is that storm vs myth is logic vs imagination. I would just argue you need imagination to be an inventor as well.
Idk why this was recommended to me but it was very entertaining
Great video
All I remember from this game was that if you played for free you couldn’t get past lvl 12
Wizard101 has so many little nuggets of esoterica.
Indeed. I'm hoping to demystify some of it through this channel :)
im sooooo down for this type of content
tempest magic and earth magic sound awesome
This makes them more like the duality of Pigswick's Spirit and Earth, rather than the dyad of Chaos and Equilibrium.(Or Tempestus, which could still somewhat be seen as a counter to Chaos)
It seems in practical application, Ravenwood's schools are more successful, which probably means its theories are more accurate. (Additional evidence could be seen in the enemy school weaknesses/resistances, but how canon such game-play aspects are can be questionable, especially since Pirate101 exists.)
However, even if Ravenwood's theories are more accurate, that does not mean they are complete. The school philosophies may be applied more broadly than the fields associated with them, if Myth/Storm and Spirit/Earth really are counterparts.(Assuming there is any truth to the Pigswick theories.) If this is the case, then would the philosophy be the school or would the associated field be the school?
wait what if pigswick plays a role in spell weaving in the future?
the developers don't even know that world exist
they dont know the game
would have been the perfect time to use pigswick lore for weaving. but no.
Dragonspyre academy would've been an excellent place to learn new spells.
8:59 clean
Sounds like Wysteria teaches more on civilian jobs but well Wizard City seems to be more focused on Military Jobs. That also explains how each school gets their recruit.
If you stretch it out, the player character is technically “ drafted”.
Wysteria being your favorite world is crazy
Wysteria sounds like a Scholar's school & Ravenwood sounds like a physical school
*Speaks into magic orb* he knows too much. Get him.
