Amazing! I remember being glued to tv on race day. A horse crazy 14 yr old teen, in small town Woodstock, NB Canada. Watching because I 'knew' the Jockey riding Secretariat. (My Dad had sold him a Cadillac car and we delivered it). My own little sorrel 14.2 hh arab x quarter horse in the pasture, that had ignited all my hopes and dreams. I fell in love with Secretariat that day. And 2 weeks later, all over again. The third and final race of the triple crown, I felt privileged to be able watch a once in a lifetime event and miracle unfolding. I was awe struck but realized how remarkable what I was seeing was. When Ron looked behind for that split second and realized what was unfolding, I felt. Little did I know prior to 1973, that my life would be not just a horse owner and competitor but also as a coach, trainer, and stable owner, for over 40 years!!! Successfully! Retired now, but the horse loving blood still runs deep in my veins. I suspect it always will ❤
Chris Tweedy was at St. Paul's School when Secretariat ran for the Triple Crown. We were friends before that. Thus an inner group enjoyed rooting for Secretariat. Penny Tweedy came to SPS occasionally. Penny Tweedy was a very down to earth lady. She was approachable and pleasant.
I'm glad that Penny committed to retiring Secretariat after the Woodbine and she listened to her dad who told her not to embarrass the horse. Had she raced Secriatarat for 2nd Tripple Crowan, she would've ruined his legacy and ended up like Seattle Slew. That three race was so "Special" ! And, like Knack said, "we'll never see this again" .The way he wrapped up his career is still so Awwing to me.
A great aspect of the story is the great breeder, Christopher Chenery. From a small operation he managed at the culmination of his life to breed Derby winners, two in a row. He almost won two in a row triple crowns, but Bee Bee Bee (trained by Del Carroll) loved mud and Riva hated it. Chenery rates as America’s Tessio.
50 years later !! I'll never forget him ❤

Thank you for sharing your memory of Secretariat, and your little Sorrel.😊😊

The wonderful owner for a wondrous horse 😊
I had the privilege of watching the triple crown the year Secretariat won. Moving like a tremendous machine will live forever in my memories.
Penny's son is very well spoken and down to earth just like his mother. Penny and Secretariat...what a team!😊
Oh wonderful video. Thank you for sharing it. Wonderful people. Perfect horse.

Did you say, second triple crown? Impossible.

Who could possibly follow Secretariat?
Everyone.
