Raising your own queens is the best! Great job! I'm curious to see how that little nuc does with that many cells. I'll be setting up my cell builder this weekend. Time to raise some queens!

@@barkersbees grafting in a 5 frame too (inspired by kamon), they should be capping the cells today. Only had 3 of 10 take, but I dropped a bar so think I ruined half of them before they started!
I've caught an emergency cell in one of the frames of brood, could have been a disaster!
Learnt a lot for my first try, hoping by adding more capped brood and resources I can keep a trickle of queens coming all year whilst getting better at selecting larvae.
I'll be watching with interest 👍

The most important factor for me in moving the larva to cups is the grafting tool. Some of the Chinese tools are very stiff and others very loose. The more flimsy they are the easier it is to get the tool under them. Considering that it is a five frame nuc they probably won’t be able to cap all of those cells. If you graft again I would add the started cells on top of the string double with an exculder below the cells.

Yeah I noticed one of the ones I was using was hard to get under the larva for sure. Helped when I warmed it up in my mouth lol. I’ll get some warm water to dip in next time I think.
Yeah I think they capped 26 of the 36 that took. So I’m happy with it! I like the idea of a nuc just because it’s smaller and less resources but I wanna try the Bob method as well and use a double deep.

I think the yellow set of cups were the first ones you did, I noticed some larvae dried out, and that’s maybe why they failed. Try covering the grafted first frame with a wet towel while you do the next to prevent the larvae from drying.

I am a beginner beekeeper but I learned from a professional beekeepers what i should do to get 100% success for my grafting First you need to graft old larva for 24 hours to prepare your Graft cell be filled with royal gele and also waxed second day you remove the old larva and put new Young larva . Last not least you need to use your sweeper to remove the bees from the donor frame don't shake the frame because you will drift the larva from the center and it will be hard to graft.i hope I explained right

Thank you @brucesbees :). You did it and I just decided it was time.
I figured I have nothing to loose but so much to gain in knowledge even if I fail I will gain priceless information. If I succeed I’ll learn as well. But we can’t be scared to try things and we cannot be scared of failure. I personally learn more from my failures than I do from my successes.

Nice job, I didn’t get that many my first try, probably had to with my cell builder.
I don’t think you need to put them in before you graft.
Allso for some reason I like new come better,l can see the new larva better .
Any way good Job really like my own queens.

@@barkersbeesI would keep putting them in before you graft and let the bees polish them up..Carrie, who does all Ian’s grafts and is the queen of grafting…insists it makes a difference when the bees polish and clean the cups up before you graft into them!

First year bee keeping, dude! they make it look sooo easy. not at all! I grafted into 10 cells and nothing. May have been my hive placement though. Made another attempt today. I saw someone on the tube do it pretty fast and I'm wondering if there is something to that. He just like slid the tool down and brought it back out in about a second and a half. Guessing there is experience and technique to mastering it. Hope to hear good things!

Yeah some guys are wicked fast at grafting and i believe it definitely comes with time and practice! Lots of repetition. Let me know how your next round goes I wanna know! Hopefully you get some this time! Thanks for watching and fallowing!
