    The greatest track in North america hands down. I was in even into racing until 1988 when I saw IMSA GTP cars. The first cart race I saw here was a 1995. I live in Cincinnatiand it's a bit of a trek to come up there. But it is well worth it

    Went to every Indy Car at Elkhart race throughout the late 1970's and 1980's. Great memories. Great Friends.

    I love how in 80s Indy cars some of the best guys were in their 40s, pushing 50.

      totally agreed, and on that note- reference your old races, and always incorporate the things that made those cars great in your future cars!

      canuck406 the four races that NASCAR has posted are (in this order) 2011 Ford 400 (it was put under a different name for some reason [it was put under watch Carl and Tony race for the championship again]), 1991 & 1992 spring Bristol races, & the 1979 Daytona 500. I hope they post more old races too.

    I really like how RA has hardly changed at all over the years. It’s like seeing into the past when cars go there.

    For those keeping score, the song during the opening introduction is an instrumental version of "Only You Know and I Know" by Phil Collins.

    ? 125 miles an hour? At the end of the 90s, with 900 horsepower, they were doing over 145 miles an hour average lap. That is wicked fast.

      I'd say Walkens Glen would fit that title better. It has a lot of straightaway and a flat out uphill s-curve that's similar to Eau Rouge, only at Walkens Glen the "S" starts with a right instead of a left.

      I'd say the closest European track to Road America is Circuit de Catalunya, with its long straight and long, round, sweeping corner(s).

    Was the full course caution not invented in 1987? lol there was a safety truck on the track and they barely even slowed down to get around it.

    • @chrish931
      @chrish931 5 років тому

      They had them but it took a major incident otherwise it was all local yellows, and it wasn't uncommon to just tow the cars a few feet off the track and leave them parked there. Regular full course yellows and completely clearing vehicles from the edge the track is something that has really only come about in road racing in the last 20 years.

      Probably more like telemetry information for use on the broadcast, like they have today. IIRC, I remember them talking about that as a 'new tech' during the '91 or '92 Indy 500.
