    Thanks for sharing these videos. One option when you don’t have access to heat is ceviche. Mango ceviches are especially tasty with flounder!

      Excellent suggestion- flounder is a perfect candidate for ceviche. This guy had to flex on us and go beyond simple hot plate cooking in a hotel room. HE DEEP FRIED THAT FLOUNDER AAANNNDD FRENCH FRIES. That flounder was never gonna meet a mango,

    I always use at least a 12" or longer steel leader w/fishing the surf. I still catch plenty of trout, macs & don't lose gear & fish to those toothy critters.

    Hi.nice video..since u said its your first time at the Port A south jetty, i will save you some time...use a tide chart..no water movement means No Fish!! Also, the last 150 yards of that jetty are the productive yards...the other parf imo is a waste of time...if u fish the bottom, dont use to much weight...use live shrimp on a lemon rig but reel it in when getting close to the rocks or the perch will eat them...Cut crab, live mullet on a circle hook works great on the bottom for reds...3oz-5oz spoons work all around the point for reds too..

    So what lures are you using exactly? I usually use live/dead bait. But I would like to get into lures. Any advice would help!
    Appreciate it man!

    • @KagenFishing
      @KagenFishing  3 роки тому +1

      John Reyes honestly the hardest part with lures is that I have no idea what they want especially when I am in a new location. Also fish can be crazy picky when it comes down to it but for the most part if you are offshore or in deep water by jetties some sort of silver flashy spoon will get some to bite. After that it’s a crap shoot inshore and have pretty much set a standard of if I am confident fish are in an area every 5th cast I will change lures cause they can be that picky. Color has a big thing to do with it but also shape. So the best thing I can suggest is just watch videos of people in you area catching fish “routinely” on a lure and start there. You are going to end up with more than you want but that’s lure life and once you can see a pattern you will start narrowing in on what you need/want for waters i your area. Best of luck brotha.

    • @KagenFishing
      @KagenFishing  3 роки тому

      You have to buy it separate which I like cause they have different lengths and weights so you get to Pick which one you need. They did include a 100$ rebate for the pole which covered the coat of the pole so kinda comes with it haha

    ALWAYS use a 12 - 18" steel woven leader! These fish have teeth and catfish type mouths and sharp scales. It will not affect your lure presentation enough to worry about.

    • @loonatticat
      @loonatticat 3 роки тому

      The fish that bit him off do NOT have catfish type mouths. Spanish Mackerel have a long V-shaped mouth lined with razor sharp teeth. The woven leaders are good for heavy bull reds and sharks, but thin gauge wire leader is better for those Spanish Assassins with keen eyesight. Malin has a ton of gauges in coffee and bright finish for just a few backs per bag. They are flat coils and you can pack a dozen different options in a tackle bag to have on hand at the jetties or offshore party boat. The bigger wires are good for kings and sharks too, at a fraction of the cost of woven.

    • @jerrynewberry2823
      @jerrynewberry2823 3 роки тому

      @@loonatticat you didn't listen..he said that was a mackerel, never saw it twice! What makes you think it was a Spanish mackerel? Because he said so? 15 different fish could have cut him off or he could have not paid attention to his line that had Knicks from rocks. Most of the fish at the coast have 3 to 4 large teeth and a catfish type mouth around those with very fine teeth. A sheepshead has better dentures than I do. A red has mostly fine teeth but cuts you off with it's body scales, fin, or uses rocks, piers, and oysters to get rid of the hook! So try again Nimrod.

    • @loonatticat
      @loonatticat 3 роки тому +1

      @@jerrynewberry2823 Nimrod? Really? He described the bite followed by an instantaneous cut. You made a bunch of assumptions that didn’t align with anything he said in the video, but I didn’t listen? There are two fish that frequently cause the break-offs he described: kingfish and Spanish mackerel. Spanish are more common than kings in that particular spot. Sharks are equally common there, but the break/cut is not as quick or clean. Rocks and reds will snap lines as well, but again, not as quick or clean. Let’s face it, neither of us knows what happened for certain, because we weren’t there. I offered an opinion based on his words and actions and my experiences at the same location. You talked about catfish mouths and got all huffy when someone offered a different possibility. Lighten up. Go fishing and be happy.

    • @jerrynewberry2823
      @jerrynewberry2823 3 роки тому

      @@loonatticat your not very educated are you. Nimrod is a complement..and assumptions? He guessed what bit him off...HE DIDN'T SEE OR CATCH IT! COULD HAVE BEEN TARPON! I've been fishing here since '61. I live as the crow flies, 12 miles from the jetties. You are 18? And don't live here? Neither does he!

    • @loonatticat
      @loonatticat 3 роки тому

      @@jerrynewberry2823 Jerry you’re (not “your”) not being honest. You didn’t intend “Nimrod” as a compliment. You’ve made more assumptions, as I’m far from 18. I have a 30 year old daughter and a 21 year old son. If you look up “loonattica” on Instagram, you could easily see who I am. I live 180 miles from the jetties, but make the effort to drive there at least 3 times a month. I prefer the North side on San Jose island, especially this time of year when the mullet get trapped in the corner on the surf side. You’re older than me and live closer, so you should know more about this subject than I do. I’m surprised you disagree so vehemently and rudely given that fact. Since I’ve given you the key to my identity, you may recognize me next time I’m down there, which will be tomorrow or next Saturday. If you do, maybe we can forget this nonsense and shake hands and share fishing stories. What do you say?
