I had to go back and pause to look through all your options and see why you reserved that card at 12:25. I didn't realize you were one black away from just buying it. Close game. Would be interesting to see how it played out with only using the three nobles. Where are you guys at geographically?
Let's say there's a stack of 4 black and 3 white gem, and that's all. Can I take 1 black and 1 white gem , even if there is no third color available? Or am I obliged to instead take 2 black?
I think the reason for only being allowed to take 2 coins if he pile has four or more coins is to prevent people from getting 4 of the same color coin in two turns and buying t2 cards too early.
The rules say You may only have 3 development cards in your hand at any one time and you cannot discard the card once you have taken it; you can only pay for it to be developed.
Gregory Wyrdmaven Yeah, we were taught the game incorrectly ourselves on the first play and didn't double check that rule. We added a note on the video to show where we messed up - either way, we had a great time playing it even if we were doing it slightly incorrect.
Since the "replacing nobles" thing has been beaten to death, I'll point out then when you reserve a card, you flip it over and hide it from your opponent(s). Technically, the cards go into your hand (which means you can see them, opponents can't) but I have never played this game where the reserved cards weren't put onto the table. This means that if you reserve a card from the top of a deck (which no one ever does), your opponents never get to see it until you buy it. (If you ever do).
Misplay When the right guy reserved a sapphire, and got his third noble so he got to 14 points, he could have taken the rugby with 1 point and won the game There
Jesus, this game is really simple, the rules barely take two pages and the comments here are loaded with more mistakes than the video they're criticizing. Just read the damn rules it takes like 5 minutes.
Just wanted to let you know (if you haven't already fixed your error) that besides the noble replacement, the other MAJOR mistake you two were doing was taking more gems than you were allowed. The rules state that (for any # of players) at the end of your action/turn, there must be AT LEAST two tokens of a colour available. Therefore at 3:36 (as one example), when there are no more diamonds available, that is a big blunder. If there are 3 diamonds available, only 1 MAXIMUM can be taken (again, for any # of players this is applicable).
+kogarfire22 Can you insert the exact quote from the rules that states this? I've looked through my rules and it says nothing about two tokens of a color available at the end of each turn. I know that any player cannot have more than 10 tokens in their hand at the end of their turn, but I don't see anything about a mandatory limit of tokens in each pile.
Robert Miller Actually, I wanted to re-comment saying I was half-wrong. When you are doing the normal "take 3 different tokens" action, it is OK to completely deplete a token pile to zero. HOWEVER, you cannot use the "take 2 same tokens" action if that specific token pile does not have at least 4 tokens available (in ex. if there are 3 rubies, I cannot take 2 rubies). Link: www.spacecowboys.fr/img/games/splendor/details/rules/Rules_Splendor_US.pdf "Take 2 gems of the same colour. This action is only possible if there are at least 4 tokens of the chosen colour left when the player takes them".
Umm... This other "MAJOR mistake" that they were doing never happened in the game. Not only did they never take 2 gems of one color when they weren't allowed to, neither of the players ever opted to take 2 of the same gem, period... They state this rule in the beginning, and never broke it during the game. Not sure what you watched...
Ya I actually just realized that myself in the last few weeks. I just started playing about a month and a half ago and that's how the people who taught me play; they get HUGE engines going with the tier 1 developments and it made sense to me, plus I was new, so I rolled with it. So the past few weeks I started playing with some different people who I taught and began going more for the mid tier pretty early and reserving cards/going for t3 earlier and I was dominating. I won a 3 player game just last night actually with 22 points to 7 to 4 and I had 11 dev cards and 2 nobles. Before that one I lost a closer game and had 18 developments and decided that their strat might not be the best.

Awesome Game play! Been looking for some casual two player games. :)

sorry, guys...stopped watching when you made a major error (replacing nobles). game was broken at that point.

This game would *clearly* give me analysis paralysis
you cannot replace the visitor guys!
gg though

Wait, why are you revealing your booked card? And why are you putting another nobels after you take one?? Is it the rule??
i was wondering when the hell the player on the left was going for that seven red four pointer, smh

Grunspreke at 0:45 they state otherwise
I though you can not buy nobles with your cards. nobles can be purchased by coin gems only.
Actually you can only use cards, not coins.
You guys really don't know how to play the game most efficiently. You spend soooooooo much time in the bottom row which is a serious mistake.
