Observing that someone is playing at a lower level doesn't mean you don't recognize that their opponent is good. You can look at actual actions in game, not just outcome.
Stats has just been owning lately. Beat serral in Assembly. Maru being top 1 in winnings has been coasting lately i feel. Hopefully the real maru shows up in blizzcon

Maru went for the fastest stim timing with mine drops on a 2-1-1 into a quickly assembled push at the front and I agreed with it cause stats walled in which should be suicide when facing Terran but with one shield battery completely negates the earliest possible timing attack. Maru could have denied the third and that was a mistake but it still doesn't change the fact he stood no chance of dealing damage outside if poking the buildings used to block the initial reaper.
mainstream S. Korean culture is obsessed with being sickly white. well, really any place in Asia with a long history of colonization by the West like Japan, the Philippines, India, etc has a weird kind of colorism in play

What I mean by that is that western culture value people being tanned instead of white as it looks healthy (you get your vitamin D from the Sun) and for them it is also looks aesthetically pleasing / attractive. Conversely, asian people prefer a whiter skin as they know the damage to health and skin excessive sun exposure can cause. Certainly, white models being displayed everywhere (think shopping malls) do influence the thought of "being white" is a part of beauty. Maru looks helpless in this series. Protoss units are too strong. Amazing control from Stats makes them way too cost efficient for Terran to be able to put up a fight.
It's frustrating how Zerg and protoss can have game-ending harassment with zealots or lings that require a full army response from Terran to defend, but Terran harassment can be defended with a very small force. Marines can't even kill retreating workers very well. But seriously. Just warping in zealots has no risk - there's no army committed during travel, it requires 3x as much bio to clean up. It's a silver league action that wins games. A Terran could never click one drop in and win a game because of it, not to mention the Terran main army requires far more micro in TvP
Well, except the Code S he won at the beginning of the year...for the 4th time in a row. Maru was always more volatile than say, Stats or Serral who are more consistent. Sometimes Maru is just so good, and other times he loses to sOs 0-3. I can't remember the last time Serral lost 0-3... Stats is also often underrated, but I always thought he is one of the best (maybe top 5) players in Korea. Certainly the best Protoss with Classic a close second.
@@helloken the last two gsl he is not convincing, in my eyes at least, even in this last gsl that he moved on from Ro 32, His wins weren't that dominating he could, imo be easily disqualified. Unlike the last 4 gsls that he won where he seemed unbeatable
As I'm watching this the company where I work is working on mascot images for sports teams that we put on sports wear. There are fierce looking animals of various kinds, there are armored helms, and knights on armored horses, and. All manner of that kind of thing. Testosterone galore. After I'm rich and famous (.ie, never) I want to create a sports team named the "Boston Creams". Then our mascot can be a donut. =D A prerequisite for making the team will be to physically resemble a sumo wrestler. I'll start out by seeing if I can convince Special to join.

How quickly we forget...I'd take Innovation over many other pros to win a crucial match. In the conversation for the greatest player of all time considering he has always been a top player for almost a decade?
I wouldn't call maru a "has been" yet But he has always been extremely inconsistent (similar to scarlett in that way) absolutely dominating for a while then he'll drop off the map I feel he will comeback maybe next patch
