Sona Jobarteh is a gift to the world, truly. I just saw her live yesterday in Sommerville MA. It was without a doubt the most beautiful concert I have ever seen. Not only musically, but spiritually, and really in every possible way. I will see her again and again!!! Next time I am bringing a berry pie to the show to feed these beautiful musicians
You are SOOOO correct, Sonya! The hatred, racism, and the pillage and the IDENTITY THEF have ALL caused a cruel psychological effect on the People and surely--AFRICA-S CHILDREN! May your D-R-AE-A-M COME TRUE!
Sona, you lit the spark for the culture of your heritage and it is this that unites people of the world rather than dividing them. As I wrote to a young man age 14 from Biafra where I remember the devastating famine during the late 1960’s to 70’s and what did the EEC and Britain contribute but boat loads of butter with little financial support. And later came Uganda with the first Emperor of the UK being the despotic leader who kicked out many many Asian citizens and who was the so called emperor? -Dictator Idi Amin. Today the Dinka People are all but a memory, please keep your heart going as we the people of the world need you and the many diverse communities and cultures that humanity IS. I love your music incidentally so please keep playing the Kora.
Sona the whole Africa loved You and very proud of the step stones you're creating. May the spirit of the ancester be with and GOD Bless you too. Stay grounded and keep on creating the path to follow.
I will be donating to the Gambia Academy because I know it will educate our future children from the African perspective. This, I believe will help them feel confident, proud, and eager to tap into African history, culture, customs, etc. As a Ghanaian woman, kora music has been one of my favorites, it touches the soul and brings peace to the mind. I would like for my children to learn it in the future. I cannot wait for this Academy to be completed and successfully run by gifted people. Thank you, Sona!
bonjour, elle est ambassadrice de la Gambie a travers le monde, elle peut faire beaucoup de choses pour son pays, et comme musicien algerien j’aime beaucoup la musique africaine ainsi que les instruments traditionnel africain.
Just love some of her. I'm an African that happens to be born in the US We just bought some land in The Gambia. Go to relocate back to live and support our people, country and Continent . One Africa!
Wow, what a wonderful initiative. And indeed u are a great African woman who sees beyond the limit and the ideology of our so called African Leaders.. Mush love Sona Jo..
Thak you, ms. Jobarteh, for this very inspiring address. It makes me think over what my own culture stands for. I think I will also have a lot of work to do, although the circumstances you have to fight are much harder. That is only more reason that your initiatives on education continue to inspire me. You do a GREAT job.
Very lovely and respectfull to this lady, i love her so much... am senegalese and honestly i really don't understand anything to her songs but i like. It will be a pleasure to meet her♥♥♥ we are proud to you Sona and Thione Niang!!!!
Wut up Houston. Denton in the building as well. She's my favorite artist because she's doing the right thing for her people. Just finding out that most of us are from here originally and the methods used to help us forget and claim lands we've never been part of. We can't let this happen to Africa. Glad to see someone close to home showing love. I have both albums waiting on that third and downloading Gambia 🇬🇲. Best of wishes to you yo. Matt you life be a blissful one🙏🙏🙏😇😇😇💖💖💖
Yes you are so right! European culture is dull and boring and no flavor. I had the chance to go to the Gambia a few years ago and wow! Beautiful people, culture, food, clothes, music, language, family, everything! I was so at home right away. Thank you Sona for making the children's lives better and richer and to be proud of who they are! Beautiful people! Peace and prayers and thank you, thank you, thank you for all you do and will do.
I love this business model, I too thought of creating a "Vocational training academy", after all, we need everyone to build a society, I would love to meet this lady... Thanks for sharing.
This is inspiring for The Gambia. It's only visionary thinking that can address social-economic challenges in Africa. I am proud of your initiatives, dedication, relentlessness and for championing good causes that benefits humanity. Well done!
Sona, what's it that propels you in having this vision? It's really fantastic. The truth is this, for us to correct the mistakes of the past and present day leaders in Africa, we must have a robust education system that is African centric. To achieve this vision, Sona you need to work with people who have same vision with and a curriculum that will build the young minds, that will make them to see in the good things we have in Africa and believe in ourselves. The problem we have in Africa is the negative interference of western culture. It has caused us more harm than good. The money to finance this project may not come easily and that shouldn't be the focus first, but the kind of people to work with and the curriculum. If you don't have the right person, when the money and materials come, they will mismanage them. I am a Nigerian and loves education. What builds a strong education system is not money but the caliber of people in charge. Sona, in your speech in a UN meeting in Kenya, you said that its not a matter of building structures but what happens inside the structures. On my own, I will always support you and work to see a transformed Africa in my generation.
it is true that SONA music, even what wants to achieve is magnificent, but Africa needs an ideological change, and philosophical and scientific knowledge, for our future generation
Then surly you should be fundraising this yourself not asking for others to fund it for you ? Surly you would agree that charity begins at home you as founder are the mother head If you see yourself with abig ideas then you should dampen it down and lower your ideas just as you sound within your home
May this woman simply just be blessed with a long, long life and health so she can complete her entire dream. PLEASE BLESS HER!!!!! Love from Namibia.

Quando ascolto la tua musica
è come sé fossi in Africa !
We need African school that cater Pan-African ideologies and philosophies; schools that will teach future leaders to solve African problems.
True.
Africa's problem is one thing....foreign countries especially europeans/north america/some asian ones unfortunately
Pushing for schools yes but what kinda of education 🤔the type that recycles what the captors had perpetrated in the first place
Finally someone with real vision we all have the responsibility of in trying to achieve a bright future of our Africa . I salute you Sona
You are SOOOO correct, Sonya! The hatred, racism, and the pillage and the IDENTITY THEF have ALL caused a cruel psychological effect on the People and surely--AFRICA-S CHILDREN! May your D-R-AE-A-M COME TRUE!
