- The Halloween Party at Disney World's Magic Kingdom started on August 17th (yes, you read that right) and Brian was there to sweat...uh, I mean celebrate. He'll show you his full night from arrival to fireworks.
Be warned that this one is long, even for Brian, but we wanted to give you everything available. There will be a shortened version out next week if you want something a little more brief.

Oh Brian. I love you. If there is a Halloween equivalent of a Scrooge, you may be it. 😂 We adore the Halloween party. My 5 year old is coming this year and we are psyched!! The parade is the best, then the candy, then the characters. We don’t wait for the most popular ones.

Friday night was awful. I was there with my family and it was way too crowded. You couldn't enjoy the party stuff without waiting in long lines. We couldn't even buy a bottle of water without waiting for 30 minutes
That stinks. It did look really busy. Hopefully it was busier because it was the opening party.

When I saw the video was 27 minutes, I wasn't going to watch it. I clicked, though, and watched the whole thing. Thanks for the realistic, fact-based review. To me, this event seems way too crowded (something Disney can control) to be worth the price.
Your general disdain is cracking me up! Great vid, very informative. I’m not a Halloween fan at all, not a Skittles fan, not a Haunted Mansion fan, but I’m going anyway with my Halloween fan friend so I can ride all the rides!
Are folks watching a different video than I am? This review was very honest in showing people what a sold out event looks like and what they could potentially expect when visiting MNSSHP. Well, call me Mrs. Grump, cause i'm not a Halloween person either. However, that might change when my kids are older...maybe. I laughed at your meager attempt to watch Hocus Pocus - hey you tried haha! Caramel M&M's are SUPER expensive to purchase. Where i'm at, they sell the 'sharing' bag for nearly $3, so to get that in your treat bag is insane! The Haunted Mansion float is absolutely brilliant. The soundtrack to the fireworks, is this a shared show for the Disneyland halloween fireworks show? Thanks for dragging yourself there and sweating your hiney off for this video!
This is exactly the kind of video I want to watch. “Pragmatic Brian” tells me what I need to know and I thank you especially for the parade footage. We were in Orlando but decided to save the MNSSHP money for food on normal park days so it was a treat to still go through your video. Keep doing what you do !
Your tone was fairly accurate to how felt also... It was hot, humid, and crowded. We caught the later shows and they were still crowded... people didn't leave until the end of the night. Our first party and won't do another if they are like that.

Totally agree that disney is letting WAY more people in. Just based on the price of the after hours parties ($119 ages 3 on up!) a Halloween party isn’t pricey enough to guarantee little to no wait times. It’s more...pretty much the same wait times as a regular busy day in the parks. It’s frustrating. Your video was fantastic as always!
I'm so glad you made it to one of the first parties of the season. I went last year in more October and was honestly disappointed but the crowds. I had heard that it was less crowded if you went earlier in the season, but it looked just as crowded in your video. I also appreciated how you gave a pretty fair assessment of what to expect. Sometimes, I feel like people think an event/ride/experience is just SOOOO amazing because it's something Disney did. Therefore, it must be AMAZING. (P.S. sometimes I'm in bed by 8:30)

Late to this party, but I hope that you have seen "Hocus Pocus" since then! It is one of my favorite movies, and definitely my favorite Halloween movie! I also think it does increase your enjoyment of the Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular. I was very impressed by how well the actors playing the Sanderson Sisters portrayed their characters!

I was there as well and it was so crowded. We hadn't planned on riding any rides, only doing party stuff, but that changed because the lines for all party stuff were crazy. Very disappointed.
Thanks Brian,We were at the party this night. We can agree 100% TOO crowded. We found that if you skip the candy lines as we were walking we always found a station with zero line So we just went in a few times back to back. The HM was awesome, the parade was great too ( we did the early on too),the fireworks were good too. The HEAT was a killer and the crowds. Thanks for the review and all your hard work. We took some of the things that you have taught us and were able to plan the best multigenerational trip ever.
i actually really liked where you ended up for the parade. I enjoyed that angle. I have to agree with a lot of other comments, though. No HM? That's just wrong! LOL thanks so much for enduring the party for us!

Very good video! Yes, 10pm is lame but so is a Halloween party in August. This is a good way to ruin something in my opinion. Keep up the great work and don’t stay up too late (what is there to do at 5am anyways???)
I will give you a pass on the "negative/realistic" tone of the video. But Brian...no Haunted Mansion. That is not right. You should have at least got the outside of the mansion at night with the cast members dressed up. That is a shame.

I know I'm in the minority here, but Halloween in August is just all kinds of wrong. The weather is wrong, the temperature is wrong, it's just wrong.
My fiance and I went to this one and I can say it was the worst thing... The place was so packed. Ques for sweets (which I'm not fussed) and I heard from someone that people were queuing at 3pm to see Jack and Sally!! In that heat in surprised they saw them.. Ques for 3hrs to see them... We liked the hocus pocus show..
This was our experience too. The worst part of our trip. One had to stand in a line of 20-30 people for a bottle of water!
@@shibbel1 I felt the ques for the rides were short.. But it was because people were queing for pics and characters and sweets... But with the ques being outside it made the park harder to walk around... I can say I'm lucky I didnt pay full out for the tickets....
Our experience too. The Disney JR Dance Party was awful. Brian didn't go inside, so didn't feel that it was a freaking sauna inside. No air circulation. The tent is 2/3 enclosed and it was 92 degrees outside and they couldn't bring in fans!!!
omg, if the Christmas party last December 21st had been that busy, we wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as we did. Your reaction to finding Waldo.......priceless!!

If Disney is going to let more people into these parties, they need to trot out more characters, especially the villains. Just to eat up the crowds. Obviously, this is what most people are willing to do and want to do. And maybe get those lines started well before 7 so they can see more than one.
Elaine Gilmartin It kind of feels like disney is wanting lines to be long on purpose. Which is certainly annoying. They obviously would know how to deal with crowds. Yet they sell more tickets and let the crowds be insane. Perhaps to get people to buy more tickets to another party so they can get that “rare” character photo. Oh money. 💰

Several of the characters come out way before the party begins. It is possible to meet several characters before the party officially starts. The quality of customer experience is just fine. It's all about time management, being smart & knowing when to get into the line for characters.
Angie Levitt I’m sure that’s true. However guests buying tickets are often not buying them understanding that it becomes an either/or of Meet Jack and Sally OR do other activities but not necessarily both. Guests should be able to have benefit of “lower crowds” so that they can meet rare Halloween characters if they want to AND trick or treat AND get on some of the special Halloween rides. That is the point of the party. That is what people are purchasing. Disney oversells the parties. Period. There is no disclaimer saying “you MUST have good time management and choose a 3 hour line if meeting Jack and Sally Is that important to you over experiencing other parts of the party”. Which is the actual truth of the matter. I doubt people would fork over $75+ for a Halloween party if that was made clear. People see all the offerings and they want to experience them. That’s what they are buying. Good time management is always important of course. But guests shouldn’t have to sacrifice much in terms of Halloween party experiences when they are purchasing a ticket specifically for those experiences. Disney needs to stop overselling the parties. They could manage crowds more efficiently if they wanted to. They are Disney. But...they are disney. 🤑🤑🤑
There is definitely something energy sapping about doing Halloween in August. I get it completely.

I did find the parade and fireworks of interest, but oh my, that soundtrack got on my nerves after only few minutes! Is the Christmas Party better?

Oh my goodness, what happened? Love watching your videos but this looked like you were sent against your will and you were not going to be happy unless they changed the party to a 7am start time. Send me and I will go with Angela and have a fun night! Honest reviews help guide us but this was just sad.
what time did you get in? also, what day would you recommend going? my sister and I bought tickets for the 31st of October but now I'm thinking of calling Disney to see if we can change to some day before that, do you think MK will be less crowded if we don't go on the last day? My husband and I are going to the party for the very first time. We're going to be there October 30. Sure glad my husband didn't see your video.
I'll be interested to see how crowded it is when it's not the first party and when all schools are back in session after Labor Day. I don't think it'll be this bad every night.

Do the lines for Jack and Sally ever go down? Or is it a 3 hour wait the entire night? What was the wait time for Moana? Thanks!
We were there last year and the line go down significantly during the parades and fireworks show. We were able to get our pics.wth 7 dwarfs and jack and Sally, see te fireworks, get candy and have fun. Yes its crowded and it's fun no matter what Brian says.
The crowds in Disney are getting insane... Plus the heat... I totally understand your lack of enthusiasm
Didn't realize they did Halloween overlays for anything- cool! Last time we went (3 years ago?) we only saw special stuff at Haunted Mansion in the form of an in-person appearance by Madam Leota outside. Also, was able to see Jack Skellington with almost no line. Maybe we lucked out on a non-sell-out night? Those long lines for characters isn't worth it for me, personally. Thanks for posting!

Holidays are too rushed everywhere you go.. cannot imagine all those Disney characters and all their heavy clothing working in that hell on Earth temps...I bet they love the winter time..what a zoo ..

ok - so I really do like most of your video's, but this was kind of a downer. I feel like Angela would have been a better choice for this review. You have a bit of the 'grumpy -old-man' thing going and you can clearly tell that you are not at all into the party or Halloween. I didn't even really feel like it was un-biased, it really felt like you didn't want to be there at all. For those of us that are going & are excited about it, well I didn't find this helpful

Hi! I'm sorry I came across as negative, I was trying to be as realistic as I could. I just didn't really have a good time, it was just plain too crowded. I'm much more positive in most of my videos...I think? :-) - Brian
Honestly, I was not bothered by the tone of this vlog at all. The criticisms he had were pretty much in line with those I have heard about the crowds and ride enhancements from other sources, especially about Pirates of the Caribbean. I appreciate the honesty especially since it can help taper peoples expectations or help plan for their own enjoyment.

Question: Would you say that the Christmas Party is more worth it to you? What if the party is as crowded as this one was? We're doing the Christmas Party for the first time this year, so just wondering how high we should set our expectations.
Can't agree more with Theo. Most blogs might as well be, and to an extent are, paid Disney advertising.
