- In this video I finally address some of the issues with my project WRX that have been absolutely driving me crazy!! I switch out the disgusting stock steering wheel and upgrade to OLM's Carbon Pro steering wheel (link to purchase one below).

I also change my shift knob out for a Raceseng Ashiko shift knob which is much heavier than the stock shift knob.

Together these changes made a HUGE difference with my overall impressions of the interior. I'm glad I upgraded these parts because they are something you interact with every time you drive your car, so it really matters.

Don’t forget the raised arm rest adapter. Definitely one of my favorite, simple, and useful interior upgrades.
I will need to replace my arm rest soon too, mine is super worn out and gross like the steering wheel
The gradual build up of this car is gonna be something great to watch. I'm really enjoying these videos as I build up my own WRX. Nice work Foster. 👍
Awesome, I’m happy to hear your enjoying the series! Let me know if you have any suggestions for videos you’d like to see
Nice interior upgrades! This build is going to be 🔥
Looking forward to seeing more.
This steering wheel looks so good! Love how it compliments the trim piece above the glove box too.
I think we can keep the carbon fiber theme going! I'd like to see some more eventually
looks really good
Nice! My steering wheel on my '16 Impreza has the same issues, but nowhere as bad as that old one of yours!
too bad we don't sell steering wheels for the imprezas otherwise I would hook you up!
woo~ the new steering wheel cured my trypophobia of your old one... now the steering wheel looks AWESOME!!!
Thanks!! I think too much fast food grease destroyed the old one. Lol
A very nice install brother 👍
I appreciate you following the build!
@Foster Johnson Media No problem 😊 I had the 2017 WRX and my clutch went out @101K this year. I sold my car to Escondido Carmax and they found my 2020 STI. I own it and it had low miles when I bought it on January 29th this year. 9,421K. I'm never selling my STI. I have a question? Does my 2020 STI have a EJ 20 or EJ 25 motor in it? and does it come from the factory with equal or unequal length headers? 🤔 A great video brother.
RIP your hand in the summer and winter haha. I recommend the Blox shift knob cover if you value keeping your fingerprints after you park in the sun.
When you get to the shifter parts, I highly recommend the Perrin Adapter (and their shift stop of course) and a new OEM shift bushing. I started with the Cobb shift plate and a solid shift bushing but it added a ton of shift effort and made it aggressively notchy. The Perrin adapter is WAY easier to install and it’s only 5% longer than the Cobb plate but that’s the perfect amount of reduction before you hit the point where it requires a lot more effort to shift. Also, the shift bushing is the one part of the whole system that absorbs shock. Replacing it with a solid bushing transfers the shock directly to your shift cable and then to the actual transmission. Keeping a rubber bushing feels a lot better and gives the more expensive parts a safety net, which is even more important since you’re using a shift knob that weighs as much as a bowling ball.
Just sharing my experience. Hope it helps!
Some solid advice, I’ll look into getting a shirt shifter kit with a rubber bushing!
Awesome dude, are you guys going to the ice cream cruise??
Unfortunately I will not be making it out there. Hopefully I can make it to the next one!
Love the look!! Will this aftermarket steering wheel work with shifters on the steering wheel?
Most of the OLM steering wheels are compatible with both auto/manual transmission!
I highly recommend doing a test drive with the new wheel mostly installed but the airbag not just to make sure everything works right and you have the steering wheel on correctly. For whatever reason, Subaru didn't use a steering wheel spline that is keyed, so it is possible to get the steering wheel slightly rotated and fixing that after you've torqued the bolt and reinstalled the airbag is painful. Not that I'm speaking from (much) personal experience or anything ^^;;;;;
PS: For the CVT gang... the only difference between our wheels and the MT wheels is that the black plastic cover is modified to hold the paddle shifters. Everything else is identical as far as the steering wheel is concerned, so this is the exact same process you'd use.
Yes I forgot to mention CVT is the same wheel like you said with only a couple minor differences!
Test driving without the airbag is a good idea. I’ll definitely try that out next time :)
Nice upgrade. Hopefully that carbon fiber doesn’t scratch easily.
The real test will be how it holds up to my wife’s nails when she drives. Should be fine though since it’s leather where you put your hands most often
not much Foster; what's up with you? That steering wheel box was beat up and abused; it even flattened the bottom of that steering wheel, but that is a lucky bonus....next up, Foster tries on driving gloves. I like how you have that S2000 staring us down from behind you; almost as if it is mocking us...
I really like the flat bottom steering wheels on the WRX, makes getting in and out of the car so much easier.
The s2000 is going to come out to play soon!!
Carbon fiber all the things!!!
Don’t challenge me, I’ll do it! 😉
Aside from the nasty peeling. Theres an alternative in case you dont want to swap out the whole steering wheel. @eastdetailing sells premium stitched on covers that go over the stock wheel and adds a whole new feel to the interior as well:) i mean this olm option is always better lol but the east detailing side is cheaper
That's true a cover would be an option, but I wanted the carbon fiber on the OLM wheel. Looks amazing and much easier to clean!
@@FosterJohnsonMedia either option is amazing! Haha looks good!🔥💯
