- 5 basic judo combinations everyone should know
These are some of my favorite combinations. I put together these combinations because each and every one of these represents different concepts. For instance,
Ouchi gari to Osoto gari 0:17
This is great because you attack one leg then you attack the other. I show a few different ideas here. 3 types of ouchi garis that can lead into the osoto. Also, right vs left.
Kouchi gari to turn throw 1:07
I chose this combination because it highlights back and forth action. It also creates a weak side left sided stance out of a right sided athlete. Great opportunity.
Sasae tsurikomi ashi to harai goshi 1:40
Sasae is just the best. This combination shows left and right attack. Also shows the concept of shortening the turn.
Ouchi gari to taiotoshi for (RvL)1:58
This works really well if uke expects ouchi into uchimata. The reaction of uke when they anticipate uchimata shifts the weight to the outside leg which is perfect for taio.
Fake turn to tani otoshi to drop seoi nage. 2:37
Chose this because it shows a combination into a low attack. It also shows a 3 layered attack. Fake turn, taniotoshi fail to drop seoi nage.

I used to give Judo a hard time because I remember seeing Roger Moore's James Bond execute a couple of Judo throws on random gun-toting bad guys and never get up again, which within the context of government funded special forces/assassins is ridiculous because those guys are trying to murder you, not just fight you... But after reexamining the art and researching it further years later, I can see where Judo is possibly one of the most effective and practical martial arts ever designed for the purposes of defense and diffusion.
Unless you're a hardened soldier with intent to kill or a 250 lb meathead on steroids, no one is going to get thrown or body slammed onto pavement/hard floor and want to get back up again to hit you, and in executing that move you've put them on the ground while putting yourself in the most dominant position possible.
Very interesting Martial Art with a very interesting history and these videos are clear, concise, to the point, and perfectly explained.
@PhantomSavage you should try it. It is a lot of fun as well. Adding Judo to boxing can make one a pretty well rounded fighter. Adding Wrestling and or Jujisu to that combo is also effective.
@@planktime Heh, Judo banned leg grabs in 2010 and also prioritizes ground-fighting a lot less now, so anyone who wants to train "Judo" now needs to train in wrestling, BJJ, and Judo -- all 3 of these combined will be what "Judo" used to be :)
I have seen people knocked unconscious by throws.
@@MaxLohMusic its a shame that it leans more into sport instead of full martial art, although thankfully even the weaker sport version works well irl
Just saying some people are LETHAL off their back. In response to saying that you are now in the most advantageous position of course.
This channel is making my fellow BJJ white belts pull me to the guard every time :)
hahaha I love that!!!
YOU GOT SOMETHING AGAINST GUARD PULLING!?!
Word
Do a quick foot sweep while they lean back. That will get em.
They are bum skidders
I have been training BJJ for almost 3 years but have fallen in love with my judo training. Can’t get enough of takedowns!!!
You should explore Kosen Judo | Locks
5 combinations in under 4 minute?? that's unheard of on UA-cam.
I like your videos because you don't fuck around. 15 seconds in and you've already started showing the moves. Not 8 minutes of talking about it. And your explanation is short, but thorough enough to get the point across.
Thank you.
Amazing how you effortlessly throw the other guy...
That's the idea.
he is a top judo practitioner, not just some random guy... he can definitely throw people.
This channel is pure gold, Thank you.
0:42 i call that "the extremely painful"

He brakes it down so good. I love his instructionals
this is one if the best take down videos iv seen in ages quick to the point no useless chat to skip through. love it ! these moves it suits my style perfectly. all except the last one because i dont like to go down to my knees unless i absolutely have to. Thank you
One the best judo instructors on UA-cam right now.
This video like your others are a blessing. I wrestle and I want to try judo but I can’t find a dojo anywhere. But I use some of these moves in wrestling and I’ve noticed my neutral game is a lot better because of the information you have been providing me and others. Thank you!
I love that you wrote details of why you like each scenario with time stamp in addition to the video
Just stumbled upon this channel. As a judo enthusiast, this is like a goldmine for me. Subbed!
Just discovered this channel, and I’m excited to get more into the content. There aren’t any Judo schools near me, and I’m wanting to learn. Thanks for doing this. 👊🏻
You are very welcome. Glad I can help
You should do no Gi judo throws for self defense/street fights
Will do.
NightMonkey you never know when a completely naked assailant could attack
@@DubiousDom Ive said this before. Take your attacker to the GAP and buy them a denim Jacket. Have them wear it, and you are good to go.
Problem with Judo is many throws are predicated on the GI !!!! You are better off doing kids Wrestling
@@davideric8250 Not at all, I prefer judo over wrestling because I want the option to take someone down without having to go down myself. Even it's just one or 2 throws it's basically the same with wrestling, how many different takedowns are there for wrestling?
Pleasure to watch. Nice combos executed superbly 👍
I practice Shotokan Karate (currently an orange belt, still a long way till 1st dan black belt). I plan on taking classes in some grappling martial art in order to complement my Karate skills somewhere down the road, and at first I only thought of BJJ. This channel is making me reconsider it! Besides being a badass martial art, Judo is also historically related to the flourishing of Karate (Jigoro Kano and Gichin Gunakoshi were friends), so it makes me all the more interested in it. Sensei Shintaro, arigatou gosaimasu! 👊🏻🥋
This guy is a walking "archive" of information on judo and POSSIBLY other martial arts. Excellent 👍 videos.
Great video! Helpful and directly to the point!!!
Thank you so much Shintaro. Your videos are amazing
Thanks For Watching, Please don't forget to subscribe, it helps a lot.
Very nice combinations. Love it! I am really enjoying your content.
Watching these over and over so good.
Man, watching this is cool. The last few days I’ve been watching judo championships but, those moves happen so fast I can’t keep up except for an occasional rewind.
Seeing how the techniques are set up is even more interesting.
Great job my friend.
Kodokan has a UA-cam channel fyi.
Thank you, Sensei. I have watched this video multiple times!
Beautiful stuff Shintaro! Love your teaching style! Thanks
You're welcome. And thanks for watching.

Your videos are amazing, its gonna help me a lot cause I'm about to start training judo for the 1st time. I've just subscribed.
Brilliant content and useful explanations
Thank you
More videos like this please!! Often in bjj with the hips being hidden it's very difficult to throw with your first attack, these mis directions are a gold mine! Thank you
Great combinations -> Thank you O sensai!

Thank you for sharing yours amazing videos! You amazing 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤩
You are very welcome. I am glad I can help
My wrestling club is starting judo and bjj. I’m hyped, first practice for both today! I think I’m more excited for judo than bjj, I wish they would’ve had these classes during my high school wrestling career. Would’ve definitely helped me get the edge on my feet against my wrestling opponents
Superb explanation
Great video
Your Techniques Are Vary simaple And Very Powerful.......I Love It.*💗
so fantastic
Fascinating. Would you do some nogi throws for self defense.
I would love to see some no- gi combinationsVery rare to find those online
As a BJJ guy in love with takedowns... this is gold.
Good judo looks so awesome
Love it. What a shame I can't like this video more than once.
Thank you for this video! Very insightful judo ideas for a complete novice like me...
You are very welcome! I am glad :-)
This is great. I do BJJ, would love to take some judo classes some time, but there’s nowhere near me.
@Shigashi84 when you do these combos, except where you specifically state you are faking, are you looking to land the first technique and just have the second technique in your back pocket just in case?
Wonderful
Thanks, if you can do a video about the winning position of hands and arms (kumi Kata) would be awesome
Awesome.
Thanks
super!!!
I've jus started judo at a young age of 39 👀. I'm so glad I found you channel, it's very helpful and full of knowledge 👌
I started judo at age of 5
Just started judo and loving it..i have a background in tkd and karate. Are there any specialized exercises i should look into?
Excellent, down and greasy Judo🍻🍻🍻. This is the good stuff here. Oos🥋
Oss!!
Tks a lot Sensei!
You are very welcome
Thanks!
not much but just a little something but a lot more to come for the important teacing i recieved from a good teacher
Thx sensei
Very cool
Hey Shintaro love your videos dude! Could you do a video on gym or resistance training that's judo specific or thats beneficial for judokas?
I'd suggest taking a look at phil daru, he's a professional mma coach and works with some olympic judokas. He films and cuts together most of the training session. Just search for judo on his channel, maybe you'll find something beneficial.
Hi Shintaro, for ouchi to osoto, is it important that it's RvL or does it work RvR too?
Love your channel
I have been struggling with my stand up in BJJ , cause i used to do judo when i was young but i struggle to make the set up to o goshi or head and arm throw , how to incorporate the judo into my game with no gi sir ?
More of those pleasee
Good throws
NAGEKOMI...everywhere! 5 deadly combination! Thank you Shintaro🤙🤙🤙
You are very welcome!
Thx i know all these throws but i revise for my comp on sunday
1. Ouchi to Osoto
2. Kouchi to Harai
3. Sasae to Harai
4. Ouchi to Taio
5. Tanio to Drop Seoi
Ouchi gari is so good tecnique for combinations. I use is it in combo with Morote seoi nage or Makikomi. Work's very good :)
Yes it is. I love ouchi
🦄 thats right this channel is unique
Thank you!!! :-)
The first combination is what I have been practicing every day. Hopefully I get it in my next Tournament!
Good luck!
I do Brazilian jujitsu and I like that all of these were similar in hand position.
I like that switch. I works. Age and deceit beats youth and strength......
Your technique is very good, effortless in its finish👏
Thank you!!! I've had a bit of practice :-)
Shintaro Higashi. After your reply, I though I would do a cheeky Google on you. Well mighty impressed, I salute you sir. 🤼♂️🥋👍
@@bluewushu1 Haha, thank you. I try.
Judo is seriously so cool
Can you go o-soto to o-uchi or does it have to be inside to outside combos..
Like your video. Short and simple. Can you post a video doing these throws or others without a gi?
Yes, that is definitely on my list.
Nice combination ouchi-gari ,tomoe nage !
Exellent!!
Thank you!
Yo it’s so gooodddddd
Thanks! My friend didn’t stand a chance 🤩
Are the judo gi must blue, or can white too?
👍👍good
love the last one. Best for higher level opponents who will react to the double fake.
yeaaa eugene! This is my cousin everyone!
That last one was the only i've ever made, and i won the local championship with that... 13 years ago :D
@@user-lm3rh2wy7m Congrats!
1:40 Quick question for a similar throw. I have a BJJ tournament coming up next month and two of my best throws are Hiza Guruma and Harai Goshi. Do you think I can do that same sequence/combination but starting off with Hiza Guruma instead of Sasae Tsurikomi since they are very similar with subtle differences? And if not, what throw do you recommend I use to either set up Hiza Guruma OR what throw can I follow up with after a failed Hiza Guruma? Thank you in advance.
sasae/hiza to one side, then harai would work amazing. you can also fake step then go hiza/sasae, then back to harai. or fake sasae/hiza then do harai. lots of options. keep drilling them!
Shintaro Higashi thank you so much dude appreciate it 🙏🏾 Oss!
Does tai otoshi count as a turn throw following ko uchi?
