I have so much admiration for Japan's second hand goods culture. This week I picked up used copies of two newly released games for Nintendo Switch for 60% off the new retail price. These games were clearly played once by the original owner and then must have been immediately sold to BOOK OFF. Perfect condition, no issues, amazing price. All on top of the endless perfectly packaged retro games I've found throughout the week. I really enjoy these types of videos where other game lovers show off their search and finds. Thank you!
Yes, bookoffs and hardoffs are a treasure trove for scrufylookin nerfherders like me. Sounds like you got an awesome deal. I appreciate you sharing with us and for your support 🙏
Dunno if you're interested but the PS1 game you mentioned during the Natsu-Mon grab is Boku no Natsuyasumi! Natsumon is a sort of spiritual successor to the series! There's quite a few games and it's a really fascinating game series. Oddly enough the shin-chan game you picked up is by the same devs as Boku no Natsuyasumi as well and it did get an english release! And for the last fun fact the devs of that series run a curry restaurant as well! I don't remember where it is in Japan though.
Yeah, that is the one I was thinking about. I've seen it quite a few times. That is pretty interesting facts game maker by day curry restaurant owner by night very cool I'll have to look into that further thanks for sharing 👍 😀
5:57 - It's actually a Murder Mystery visual novel, according to VNDB. There's quite a lot of murder mystery and thriller stuff on the Switch actually. This does seem to have some romance elements though, apparently. OH. Actually, there's a lot of that, far as I can tell. Presumably the Switch version is censored, as there's a bit of adult content in it. Only released in Japan and possibly China (although there's a fan translation into Korean, presumably of the PC version). 6:21 - This is indeed released in the west! Aksys Games releases a lot of their stuff over here now. Seems to be a minigame thing. It's western name is just 'Cuddly Forest Friends'. 7:01 - No idea if it came out in the States, as my account is UK, but it definitely came out here - it's a Story of Seasons (formerly Harvest Moon) title. 7:32 - I think all the STEINS;GATE titles are out on the Switch in the west. 7:35 - Yup, this came out here too! There's actually TWO Shin-Chan games out here, this one and a bizarre platforming title. 8:45 - Rain Code is actually an action/mystery title, and the aesthetic is actually closer to Danganronpa (because it was made by the same people). 9:05 - Zero is actually the horror game Fatal Frame (or as it's known in Europe, Project Zero). 9:27 - Both games in the Taiko no Tatsujin series are out here, in English - I think with all their Japanese tracks? Not sure on that one. 9:45 - Nope! Earth Defence Force started on the Playstation 2 - and it didn't start coming out here in the west until the 4th game in the series. 11:50 - You're thinking of Dragon Quest 11, with regards to the retro game mode. And other than the PC, this is indeed a Switch exclusive! 12:02 - This was released here as Collection of Mana (and is the first chance to play the full Mana series outside of Japan). The first game was on the GameBoy! :D 12:52 - Yep! It's a 3D remake, same as the Ocarina of Time remake. 14:51 - Arale-chan is from the manga Dr. Slump (and she's a young child)! It's the same artist though. All Chrono Trigger's art was done by Akira Toriyama, same as Dragon Quest. The character is Lucca Ashtear, a character who is in a lot of ways kinda like Bulma from DragonBall.
Thank you for the incredibly detailed information on each one of these entries here. You definitely know your stuff. Have you ever been game hunting in Japan? Im sure you would be quite over whelmed with the amazing variety. Or maybe not seeing as how you seem to be quite knowledgeable about everything. Wow!
@@ScruffyLookinRGB Ahahah, I only know as much as I do because of a mixture of Google-Sensei and subjective experience of the UK game store scene (including briefly working in one). I'm also a regular Nintendo Life follower, and I'm pretty sure they don't review Japan exclusives on their channel, that's how I knew about Shin-Chan and Doraemon (I also checked the Switch's UK e-Shop as I was watching the video to be sure XD) I'm quite familiar with Toriyama's work, by chance, and have played Chrono Trigger near enough to completion (which is hard, there's about 13 endings?). I think today was just something of a lucky streak, I don't usually find this much watching a game hunt video X'D I've not had the pleasure of actually trying to hunt for games in Japan though. I get the feeling I'd be quite easily overwhelmed by the experience, because the sheer variety over there is kinda nuts, well over what I've seen here, and second hand game stores are getting MUCH harder to come across now here in the UK. I've also something of a language barrier, my Japanese is very basic ^^;
Consoles? definitely get the color if you plan on modding it. If you want it, stock go with the crystal it has the best display. 👌 SD Gundam: Operation UC is a cool little beat em up type game. I also have a video on wonderswan hunting you may find some cool games there too.

Rare to find someone on youtube showcasing actual japanese exclusives, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it👍

1:40 The English version of this game is called Game Builder Garage. I only know as my eight year old son loves it!
Thanks I was curious if they had that one in north america 🙏 sounds like your son is getting ready for a career in programming 😉
Crayon Shin-Chan actually got a release in the west! Very unexpected, and it´s the first of these "summer holiday" games with a localization.
Did it really?! I'm amazed. Was it reskined? 🤔 Sounds like Nintendo is getting wise.
@@ScruffyLookinRGB Incredible as it may sound: no! It´s called Shin chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation -The Endless Seven-Day Journey.

Love it! Can't wait for Switch games to become cheaper when the next gen comes out (yeah right lol)
Same here! It will happen eventually 😉👍
I'm coming to Japan next week, any recommendations for WonderSwan consoles and games?

Is the Switch region-locked? I've never played one, but there seems to be a lot of good games for it so I have considered getting one.
No I'm pretty sure there isn't one on the switch
It is not region locked and it has an incredible library of games
Never seen these games !!!
I happy to be able to show you something new👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i want to see some limited edition colored ps2 systems if they have em.
I'll take a look at them next time I'm out thanks for the request.
Does Japan exclusive automatically mean no English translation and/or subs?
Just means games that were only released in Japan.
👍
